Sonesta Maho Beach: Best vacation yet.

The Sonesta Maho Beach Resort was the best hotel that i have so far stayed at. The staff were friendly, helpful when needed, the food was amazing. On top of that the beach was fantastic. You couldnt find a complaint even if you wanted to. The drinks were fantastic. Walking in town and any excursions taken, always felt safe. Amazing vacation.

Secrets St. Martin: 3.5 star resort

Excellent location, they are short staffed for sure. Only 2 restaurants open on a daily for dinners. Rarely get chairs with umbrellas on the beach unless you are there 7am, they should have more chairs and umbrellas at the beach and poolside since there is only one pool. Only entertainment was live karaoke or 3pc band, no other entertainment, maybe due to covid not sure. Serving staff were really nice but not enough to get service. Restaurants don't need reservations but if you go after 7:30 you [... read more] might be waiting upto an hour then another hour to get food. 24 hour Cafe need more food and deserts available. Overall if they are better staffed then this would be a great relaxing getaway.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Beautiful Trip

A nice hotel, with a small foot print, however it was fast to go around to the two level beach and to the restaurants. Very good COVID measures in place. Very clean hotel and grounds. A small beach with sufficient chairs (it was not very full between March 24 and April 7, 2022). Amazing ocean colours, clear water, no rocks, a pleasure to swim. Quality of food was above the average of four star hotels. More expensive than other islands, but we greatly enjoyed our vacation.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Very beautiful!

This hotel was nice and everyone was friendly, we had a nice time. The dinner service was slow two times but all the other times was great. I will definitely want to go back in the future one day to explore more of the island. The water at maho beach was rough but was fun and so clean and clear.

Esmeralda Resort: Wonderful escape to Saint Martin

This resort is nicely tucked away on the shores of Orient bay. It is quiet and spread out over beautifully manicured grounds with palm trees and exotic carribean plants. The room was spacious and well equipped with ceiling fan or air conditionning options. I slept soundly and peacefully every night of our stay. The sun was brilliant but we always had options to experience the light in the shade of our terrrace and pool. The food at the Astrolabe restaurant was excellent just as I remembered .  [... read more]The Friday night special with langouste and live music was a highlight. The helpful people working at the reception gave us great options for both day and night. We enjoyed an excursion on the Scooby Too catarmaran visiting a three spots to snorkel or swim seeing turtles and fish. The lunch served onboard was a true feast of fresh fish and french cheese. In the evening we went twice to the new restaurant in the Orient Bay village called Maison Mer. I would highly recommend you go there if you are looking for fine French dining with a carribean influence. What lovely memories to bring home .

Secrets St. Martin: A Sub-Par Resort At A Premium Price

This resort is badly in need up very significant upgrades. At best it’s a 3 out of 5. The rooms have been renovated and are nicely appointed, but the test of the resort is no better than a run-of-the-mill resort, but it comes with a premium price tag. There are NO beach facilities of any kind other than sand, chairs, broken umbrellas, and foul smells. On a good day a waiter might come buy once. The pool area activities are sadly lacking. The pool is in need of an overhaul. None of the wate [... read more]rfalls were in working order. The swim up bar looks to be 25 years old. The hot tub was closed. The activities desk was useless. There is water available in the gym, but it comprises bottled water that is warmer than room temperature. No tv’s or even music in the gym. On more than one occasion the resort ran out of beach towels by 10:30 am. Stray dogs are allowed to roam the premises. One buffet restaurant for evening dinner is hardly what I would expect from a resort having the reputation of a Secrets. Resort washrooms were in some cases so badly in need of repair that guests were required to return to their rooms. The price for 1 week at this resort is not significantly less than the cost of a week at a Sandals resort, however, there is simply no comparison. Sandals resorts are far superior in each and every way. I won’t be making the same mistake again and will not be going back to a Secrets resort. I regret my choice in this instance.

Secrets St. Martin: Just what we needed

Clean secluded resort, just opened recently so still has some bugs to deal with but overall a good relaxing vacation. With everything Covid we wanted something quiet and secluded, hotel was just over half filled so not a typical all-inclusive in the sense they only had two restaurants open a night (food was very good) The activity director had a challenge to get things going by the pool and the nighttime activities were very limited but the entertainment in the lobby bar was a different musicia [... read more]n every night. It was nice to not have to fight for a lounge chair either by the ocean or by the pool. They definitely had issues with staff being ill, and the manager was constantly walking around day and night making sure you were taken care of and greeting the guests. St. Martin is a beautiful island with amazing beaches, we will definitely be going back once the world gets back to normal.

Secrets St. Martin: I hope I get this right

You have a lot of options for your travel money so I hope not to sway you one way or another but to let you know what to expect. Secret's is a little more expensive than other options (at least when we went, November 2021), however you soon realize if you travel around the island that transportation is pretty expensive and Secret's is about as far from the airport as possible. We were brought a glass of champagne which was nice. Processing is fairly easy and painless and from there you are off to your room. Rooms are generous in size, bathrooms are large, more than enough closet space, great TV, king sized bed (very good mattress), couch and a standard sized balcony. For us, the room was more than just ok. None of the rooms have ocean view, the main buildings face each other but there is lots of space between them so it's not like anyone is staring into your room. Some first floor rooms have a walk out to a shared pool with your neighbours. We did not see many people using the pools though and I heard through one person that the temperature was too cold so not being used. This is not first hand knowledge, so judge the info accordingly but I will confirm that we did not see many in the water. The general pool is great, the pool bar is great, the booze at the bars is great, food at the pool is great, the beach is outstanding, the service at both the beach (Loranne) and the pool (Rolinda, German) outstanding. The pool and beach are quiet, there is music at the pool but not blaring. Just what we wanted. The food is good. You won't be wowed but you shouldn't be disappointed either, I wonder if once more people start returning they may open up another restaurant but I don't know. The Hibatchi restaurant was very good and the main dining hall was above average compared to other all inclusive. I would recommend taking a $ 20 taxi to Grand Case and there they have a couple of outstanding French restaurants that you will never regret spending the money on. 7-9 page wine list, just to give you an idea. Also there is an incredibly good restaurant down the beach that I would highly recommend but it closes at 5pm, so more for lunch or late afternoon. Very worthwhile to go to, if you like unique French cooking. Orient Beach is a $ 20 cab ride away and has more hotels and beach bars on it, if you wanted to have something with more action. Covid was extremely easy, there is a doctor's office on site. Book your swab as soon as you arrive or the next day and results came back within 24 hours of taking the test. Sonesta Maho Beach: Wonderful Resort

Just returned from the Sonesta Maho in Saint Maarten traveling with Sunwing vacations. This was our first trip Covid style and I can tell you We felt completely at ease at this resort. The resort was kept clean the food was great and the staff that works there were amazing. Sunwing and the local lab across the street do an amazing job for your return PCR Covid test it takes all of 10 minutes out of your day with the procedures they have in place …well done Sunwing.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Great resort

The resort was clean. The staff was very friendly. The best bartender name was Eddie great person and made awesome drinks.You had to wear your mask in the common areas and that was fine. Some people did not but the security indices it witch was great. The Sunwing staff was very good so recommend to go to the meeting gave you the info you need to get back home as for Canadian you need the PCR test. There house wine is great. To find out what restaurants are open they have a barcode you can scan very easy to do and give you what what’s open. Do take a walk and go to the other beach called Mullet bay it’s a 10 min walk worth every min. If you want to go to phillisburg just go out to the street and there is public vans that reads philisburg that will take you to the town only 2 US dollars and coming back use Moha drop you right off to the hotel. Jewelry’s stores in Moha go to the Rissan it’s on the right nice pp and not pushy Andy is one of the guys that will help you.also in phillisburg go to the Kay’s jewelry they too are a good jewelry store and guarantee for life if anything break.

Esmeralda Resort: Beautiful Resort!

Loved the hotel. Rooms were clean and spacious, and nicely appointed. The resort is divided up into villas with 4 rooms each, and each villa has a private pool, which was so nice right out your door. The beach is a 2 min walk, and the main part of Orient Bay with some great restaurants is only a few mins walk too. The only things I would say were under par, were that the hotel did not supply conditioner - only shampoo (they should really replace the single use plastic bottles they supply with re [... read more]usable dispensers for soap and shampoo as well!), and the coffee at breakfast wasn't that great (service in a giant coffee pot, so tasted pretty bad). Otherwise, we loved this place! A great, very quiet place to relax. Definitely more for couples than kids, but could work with kids as well.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Excellent vacation

Our week vacation at sonesta Maho beach was amazing! We came for the airplanes and the view but everything else was wonderful! Food, service, accommodations, casino etc. Very modern and clean! The beach can be a little rough at times to go in but the water is beautiful and blue. The pool is big and very clean. The buffet is a little small but there are plenty of food options on the resort. The pizza was excellent, the palms grill was great and the point a la carte Italian was very very good. A [... read more]nd the cafe with coffee and snacks was the best. We felt very very safe, walking to near by beaches and would highly recommend the excursion to Anguilla by speed boat. I have no idea how anyone could possibly complain about this place. We didn’t rent a car but most people we spoke to rented a car for the week to get around the island. I would come back here 100%. And if you are an avid aviation lover like myself, the Maho beach experience watching the planes fly in is one of my favourite things I’ve ever done.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Very nice resort

We had a great time, very nice resort. Very clean all around and took extra precautions for corona virus by asking everyone to use hand sanitizer before entering any restaurant areas plus the staff served us our food. Nobody touched anything related to the food. The only draw back for me was that there are no places to walk to as there are not many stores or things to see unless we went by bus or taxi. Sonesta Maho Beach: Great Resort

I visited this resort with my friend and we stayed here from Feb 20 to 27. Prior to leaving for our trip I read all the recent reviews and was well aware of the virus outbreak. We arrived very prepared and noticed all the precautions posted around the resort. I only heard of one instance where 2 family members of a bigger party were effected and this was on our first day there. After that I did not come across anyone else effected so it's safe to say that this is under control. This was th [... read more]e smallest resort that I ever stayed at and you don't get a big variety of restaurants that you typically get at big resorts. I was fine with this. We were most impressed with The Point and ate there twice. The Palms was pretty good as well. I typically avoid eating dinners at buffet restaurants but this one impressed me and had 3 dinners here. The buffet is not big and may lack some variety that people in other reviews have mentioned but I found their quality to be good and food was fresh. The grounds and rooms are modern. Our A/C was functioning properly, the rooms were clean and showers worked well with constant pressure and hot water. Two thumbs up on this. I felt the workers were mostly polite, friendly and did their best to attend to everyone. I don't understand some of the complaints posted here. Maybe I don't let the little things bother me or I'm not some snobby, demanding, full of himself type of a person. Even though there is no true beach on the resort there is a man-made beach overlooking Maho Beach and the ocean. You literally just have to get up from your chair and walk 50 meters and you're on the beach and in the water. If you walk another 200 meters you reach the airport and get yourself some postcard moment pictures of the planes landing. It's spectacular if you're into that. The big planes land and take-off between 1:00 and 6:00 pm so they won't wake you up or prevent you from falling asleep. It's a silly complaint if you claim it's loud all day long. You should already have known that this resort is near an airport and avoided coming here if it bothers you. Finally, you're doing yourself disservice if you don't get off the resort and explore the island a bit. Maho Beach is on the west side of the island so you'll need to use a taxi or rental car if you want the flexibility to be mobile. Taxis here are a little expensive. From Maho Beach to Orient Beach or Cul-de-Sac (opposite end of the island) taxi costs $40 USD one-way for 2 people. It's an extra $5 for each additional passenger. Taxi from Maho to Philipsburg or Marigot is $20-25 one-way. We took a bus from Maho to Philipsburg and it cost each of us $2 one-way and the bus ride was 25-30 minutes long which was not bad. We visited Philipsburg on a Sunday which was one of their off-days for cruises coming in so we had the beach all to ourselves. We paid $25 for an umbrella, 2 chairs and 5 drinks. Another trip we made was to Pinel Island on the French side. The ferry pick-up is from Cul-de-Sac, it costs $12 return ferry and it's a 10 minute ride to get there. The island is small but the water is super shallow, clear and very safe to swim. I recommend you consider it. I looked into taking a ferry to Anguilla, the cost of the ferry is $90 return. I think it's the same cost to go to St Barth's. St Maarten is known for their Guavaberry Coladas as well as BBC's. Try those drink. I definitely recommend this resort and visiting St Maarten.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Loved It

Resort is not too big..safe for single females..can walk to shops, pubs, grocery, pharmacy if needed and casino. New and very clean. Airplanes come in over Maho beach unbelievable. I had no complaints about the food except the quality of the sandwiches in Cafe and NO sugar free drinks at bars for mix.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Wonderful Resort and Amazing People!

Once again I would like to thank Linda Lavoie for planning an amazing holiday. The resort was clean and decorated nicely. The resort staff were very helpful and did there best to make your stay great. The a la carte restaurants were all good except Jin's. It could use some improvement. The only downside was there were no chairs to sit on the beach because the sand was washed away from the hurricane. The planes were interesting to watch flying in over the beach to land at the airport. The Norovirus was affecting people at the resort and the staff took all precautions to stop the spread. Excellent service from arrival to departure. We had a great pleasure to stay here. Staff is very professional, friendly and helpful. Room was clean with modern furniture and with all amenities you may need. The bed was King-size and very comfortable for sleep. Sonesta Maho Beach: Amazing Resort

Restaurant were limited, there was only the Buffet for Breakfast, the other Restaurant on the Resort needed Reservations. The only had Koski available to view what was going on at the Resort, I would suggest maybe a hand out slipped under the door of each room nightly so that all guests knew what was going at the resort that day. Staff were very Friendly and Helpful.

Sonesta Maho Beach: SMB hotel

Loved the hotel, grounds were spotless the people that worked there were super helpful and friendly. Rooms were cleaned every day, the food was ok, but that all depends on ones expectations. Lots of activities on the property, especially for the children. Wonderful place, I would go back there anytime. When it came to cocktails they are very generous with poring, no shortage there. Had a great time.
