A good place to vacation

The service staff were polite and efficient but the rooms were older and did not offer much besides basic comfort. The facilities are amazing and the entertainment was good. No internet in rooms. Internet reception in the lobby was limited. A lot of bugs and the tour guides make u feel uncomfortable with they way they ask for gratuity. But overall a great getaway.

Satisfactory resort, but needs improvement...

Grounds and public areas were lovely! Rooms were ok, however housekeeping needs to get their act together...some towels were delivered dirty, pillows were extremely thin and flat, so we ordered more ( one pillow delivered wasn’t even an actual pillow...it resembled wool folded and stuffed in pillow-case!), and there was no toilet-paper replacement one day (thankfully we had brought a few of our own rolls, as it took and hour and a half for housekeeping to supply!!!). Check-in was supposed to  [... read more]be at 4pm, however our room wasn’t ready until 4:45pm. Re dining feature...our package included 3 a-la carte, but only 2 different restaurants were available. Buffet was satisfactory considering lack of food supplies in Cuba.

Great hotel!!

Very impressed with hotel room. Lots of space, all the amenities, great bathroom with separate shower and bath. Most helpful for a June visit is that it was always at the right temperature with individually controlled central air conditioning plus ceiling fans. Also a balcony with two chairs. The 'made while you wait' breakfast omelettes, mangos (when ripe) and coconut ice cream were my favourites. A fair bit of variety; some food overcooked. One note is that hotel advertises multiple a la carte restaurants but only one was open a day (perhaps due to low season). Overall I found the staff exceptionally courteous and helpful. The only exception is that the day we arrived, the front desk staff repeatedly told us our rooms would be ready in 10-15 mins. We arrived at 3:30pm, check-in time was 4pm, and 2 out of 3 rooms for my party weren't ready until 6pm. There was no-one else visibly waiting for a room, so not sure if they were short staffed or cleaning rooms for new arrivals wasn't prioritized. A suggestion for future is that if it's known rooms won't be ready for an hour or two, to let visitors know this, provide somewhere for them to change, and advise them they can wait by the pool or on the beach. Overall it was my first time in Cuba and I will definitely be coming back! I will definitely consider returning to this hotel.

We stayed in the Melia Marina Varadero. The service was exceptional and All Inclusive was indeed "all inclusive" with convenient drinks/food access from Beach to Pool to Lobby. All staff at all levels could not have been more helpful.

Beautiful resort

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Melia Marina Varadero. The staff were friendly, courteous, and professional. The hotel's location is great and a 4 minute walk to some of the most beautiful beaches you will ever see. The grounds were well maintained. The room spacious and clean. The food and beverages were pleasantly delicious with lots of variety. A day trip to Havana is a must and only a 2 hour ride away. OK Resort - wouldn't go back

I had a great time in Cuba! The sunwing staff were amazing and the flights were on time and the weather was perfect (travelled end of May). I wasn't overly happy with the hotel. Housekeeping came in everyday but didn't sweep, clean the washroom or, clear away drink glasses. They made the beds and left new towels that was it. Our room was tidy but dirty (bed skirt/ lamp shades/ crumbs on chairs that weren't mine). I am glad we were able to eat at the a la carts for dinner. She is an excellent bar tender and kept everyone happy and refreshed.

Disappointed

Thanks to Felicia to arrange the studio apartment at a higher level, quiet and facing the marina....just loved the apartment. Only comment about the apartment is when, towards the end of our 10 day stay, on several nights, the sheets not completely dried, in fact, quite damp which led me to sleep on the sofa..... Having been at Melia Marina several times, we were disappointed about the food compared to previous visits. Maybe this was the reason..... Re Gym facilities, we love our daily workouts; however , disappointed that 2 of the 3 stationary bikes didn't work properly and flexibility/stretching on the hard floor of the gym due to lack of mats. There also seemed to be a bit of an attitude change with some of the staff....perhaps due to the status quo of the economy. All in all, thoroughly enjoyed the pool area and fantastic beach where one can safely take long long walks!!

Great place

Really enjoyed our stay there. We traveled together with my 27 y.o. daughter and had a great time. The room and resort were clean, staff very pleasant and helpful, the food was good. I know that people say that you don't go to Cuba for food, but our restaurants and buffet were actually pretty decent. The only thing that we were not happy about was the snack bar at the pool. Only once we were able to have pizza there which was very good. So, we decided to have it again the next day. Well, first t [... read more]hey told us that "Four Seasons" pizza wasn't available. In this case, we ordered Margarita pizza, poutine and cheese sticks. We waited for almost an hour to be told that neither Margarita pizza or cheese sticks were not available. Seriously? you didn't know about that an hour ago? Hamburgers were just served to the table near us and we asked for the same. Guess what? Not available!!! at this time I started to wonder if it was us that they didn't want to serve any food? But we were still sitting at our table, having a drink and waiting for the poutine. At least. And then the poutine arrived. I am not a difficult person and enjoy simple things in life, but I was offended by what was put in front of us on the table. Little plate with maybe 15 french fries, a slice of "singles" cheese on top and nothing else. not even a drop of any kind of sauce, although the menu said there is some "special" sauce. For that we waited an hour!! Next day we decided to give it another try, thinking they just had an off day.. Well.. again, they didn't have pizza because the cheese wasn't delivered. On our last day, we just stopped there for a drink, didn't want to try our luck with food anymore. I wanted to order a bloody mary. A simple cocktail that was on their menu. Correct. They didn't have the ingredients.. That's the only place in the entire resort that was disappointing. Other than that we really enjoyed our stay there.

OK, but not the service I expected

Have been to Cuba many times before, but was disappointed with this hotel. Small things like lack of signs pointing to the lobby in the stairs. Big things like one room out of two having bad mold problems in the air conditioning. I never have problems with the food in Cuba, but they were skimpy in bringing things out which then led to guests taking lots and lots of food which led to it being wasted, and even more shortages. A classic feedback loop. Food at beach snack bar was a small  [... read more]subset of the main buffer. The real service problem was at the snack bar, taking forever for getting a drink or food. On the last day we showed up 90 minutes before our bus wanting to get food before departure, told them we were leaving and we even had some small carryon cases with us. Most food was unavailable and what we got arrived with a few minutes to spare. The good parts: breakfast at the snack bar was good, ad we enjoyed breakfast on the balcony in the main meeting. Beach was good, and it was easy to get drinks. The walk to the beach was not as far as it looks on the map, with the bridge it is fine. You can always hop on to a ride, but there are not a lot of them, especially during rush hour.

Very good resort. I would return to it.

This resort is in a very beautiful setting. You have views on all sides of the ocean and on 1 the pool and the other the marina. The rooms are large and the maids do a wonderful job. Upgrading to the Level has it little perks and some are worth it. They make amazing café latte and are always smiling. You order food from the menu and not have to stand in line and they always have little snacks available if you just want something light. It has free Wi-Fi and the best connections. The staff at the little beach bar is amazing and so is the grill where you can get grilled burgers, hot dogs and chicken. The buffet. I have mixed feelings about this. The breakfast (omelets) are very good and plenty of ingredients you can add to. As for lunch and dinner I feel they should keep the seafood and the rest at different setups because of allergies. I realize there is different spoons every where but you know people they are lazy and use the same spoon for different dishes. Also I think the food can be hotter. At the dinner setting it all depends on when you go there is different things. The pasta selection was very good. I feel that everyone entering the buffet should be forced to sanitize there hands. As for the a la carte restaurants I was not impressed with them. Overall I would not hesitate to return to this resort even though they need to do some renovations. I never had a problem with the staff and they are very friendly and cheerful.

Awesome vacation

Excellent facility! Very clean and. I concierge was excellent. Buffet was good.. lots of selection and à la carte were delicious( portion of main course small at times) pool was beautiful and beach was amazing

Great resort

There was a lot of choice for food, the beach was beautiful, the resort was clean and there was plenty of room. The service was great and fast the the entertainment was good. The staff could have been more informative and different bars and restaurants were closed when it was during open hours.

It’s a 1 star hotel

Rooms are terrible and the food is a disaster to be honest . I ll never go back to this hotel or to Cuba .we ll never go back to this crap. The staff is very rude only the pool bar staff was nice and Dunia and Daynelys are amazing . The habana pool restaurant Godddddd if you want 2 plates of Fries they ll give you 1 or they ll forget about you ... just to say it’s a lie it’s a 5 stars .be careful

Great Value

Rooms were clean. Staff was attentive. Walk to beach is about 5 minutes and golf carts go by periodically if you don’t feel up to the walk. No shade at the pool, only 4 Bali Beds available and pergolas with partial shade. Palapas only available at the beach. Entertainment was good. Food was sub par but we always found something. Great value and I would return to this resort.

Loved it!

This is the resort you want to come back to!!!!!! My husband and I enjoyed our staying very much. We stayed in room # 1350 from April 12 to April 19th. Beach was amazing!!! Entertainment team worked very hard, we had 3 classes on the beach every morning!!! Service was great, including room cleaning, dining, reception area. Melia Marina Varadero

I want to be as fair as possible. We requested at arrival an upgrade to THE LEVEL room and the service on all the food locations except the buffet are pretty slow, they need to improve a lot the speed of service on it. The people is just perfect everywhere. Something else than i told them is the none main stairs are not clean, basically between levels 1 to 3. The worst experience with5 star hotel after17 times visit Cuba

IIt is definitely not 5 star hotel ! Hotel Service people in the bar in restaurant don’t speak English at all They are not able to understand what we want In the bar during our 11 days they offed us 4 kinds of drinks no tomatoes juice for Bloody Marry or other stuff for 5 star 2) A la carte in All 4 restaurants there is the same menu ! In reality not in the paper I wonder what is the meaning to come there? No normal entertainment like we always got in 5 star hotel being 17 times in Cuba

The worst experience for the last 17 visits

It was the worst experience with 5 star hotel IT IS DEFINATELY NOT !!!! Service stuff don't speak English at all There are 3-4 drinks in real menu in the bar( even for 14 days never tomato juice ) A la carte in all 4 restaurants there was the same menu and terrible quality

Interesting resort

Some grounds painted and kept up. Being a newer resort , it was very run down. Missing a phone in room, safe not working, light bulb missing in room, and most funny toilet seat too small for the toilet. Food was fair,restaurant not recommended. Tours to the city of habana and veradero was awesome.

Beau resort!!
