Very good resort!

This was the nicest resort we have been to. The lobby is beautiful and modern, the rooms are really nice, everything is very well kept and very clean from the grounds and pools to the washrooms! Every staff member we spoke to was extremely nice and very helpful and made sure you had everything you need and were all very approachable. We had absolutely no issues with anything! They are in the process of opening a snack bar on the beach and it should be open any time now, also building washrooms at the beach. This was the best place we’ve been for shell collecting! Amazing time!

This hotel was everything we needed it to be! our room was very updated and modern. The staff kept it clean and beautiful every day. The showers were amazing. The perfect rainfall shower head and always had hot water. The beach was beautiful. The water warm and calm (it is in more of a bay). The beach is about a 5 minute walk from the main hotel area, it is closer to the adults only section. There is never a fight for chairs - lots to go around. There was many pools. They all were clean and well [... read more] maintained. Lots of chairs around there as well. The buffets were typical Cuban buffet food - nothing special, but we ate well all week. The 24 hour snack bar had great food (we loved the pizza!) and the servers were great. The main lobby area is beautiful. Each night there’s different entertainment - local house band, saxophone etc. The nightly shows are typical, but fun and entertaining. Because the resort is so big - it never felt over crowded or too full. The staff was top notch. They went above and beyond all day to ensure that everyone was having the best time. I’ve never wanted to return to a resort - there’s so many places to go - but this is a place I would consider going again.

Excellent hotel

Grand Aston Las Brujas is a lovely hotel, beautiful rooms, excellent food, friendly and helpful staff. I travelled alone and felt very safe, really enjoyed my stay and walks on the beautiful beach. I would definitely return to this hotel, excellent value.

Budget hotel

This place is hit or miss. We had some good days and some bad. Its probably ok for families but I dont recommend for an adults only experience. All the fruit and vegetables were canned. The adults only area is nice but not enforced, a few times I saw drunk teenagers passed out by the pool and others who paid less but still got to enjoy the adult pool. The a la carte restaurants were the only good food we had. Spa is fantastic.

Grand Aston Cayo Las Brujas

Absoulte nightmare food is horrific, no life guards by 7 pool until 15:00 after that time 1. Room cleaning service will just fold the same towels that you have used if they are dried. Everyone seems in a bad mood. There are couple of exemplary employees at the resort, however not worth the money or the effort. The beach is nice, howevr the bar opens between 9 and 11 am. Runs out of the cups and the employess just sit there saying sorry no cups without any effort to improvise or try to go to hote [... read more]l and get cups, staff the the beach bar is nothing less then catastrophic and rude. The hallways had water leaks out of the ceiling only to put a bucket to stop water from entering the rooms.

Very good resort!

Nice hotel, very green, good food and friendly staff. Very long beach, good for walking, but shallow (good for kids). Big and modern lobby, rooms are standard and clean. Amaizing artists and musicians!

Wonderful resort

The Grand Aston was a great resort. It was very clean and the workers were wonderful. Friendly atmosphere. The gym had very modern equipment (No dumbbells though). Showers were very powerful and had plenty of hot water. Food was pretty good. Couple stray dogs around but they were friendly too. :)

Great Resort!

We loved our stay at the Grand Aston. The resort was well maintained, the food was great. Credit has to be given to the staff who were amazing, they really made your visit enjoyable. Looking forward to going back.

Awesome Beach

The Grand Aston is a beautiful well laid out resort. Grounds are immaculate, rooms very clean with generous balconies, and the beach is stunning! Food is typically Cuban, we had some delicious meals and some misses. We enjoyed al a cartes 5x for dinner with a rotating menu. We wish the pizza oven was fired up in the snack bar for lunch. My husband and I stayed at this resort for 7 days. The first day we arrived late at night, and the long drive from the airport in Santa Clara (1 hr 20 mins) had up slightly impatient, but let me start by saying that the grounds were beautiful of course, and the resort is newer and very modern. We stayed in building #2 on the main floor. There were some perks about this as it was close to the lobby, basically right next to it. And amongst the lobby were some of the a la carte restaurants and the  [... read more]main buffet, as well as the pools and main bars. The downfall of being in building #2 is that it's so far away from the beach. The only beach access at the moment is between buildings #9 and #10. You can also grab a ride in the "golf cart" from the lobby to the beach, but that almost seemed like more waiting than just walking. The beach was nice a long, you could walk around the bay all the way to the other tip of the peninsula where they are currently constructing the last two resorts that will be build on the island. The beach is a bit shell-y at the main entrance, but it does get better the closer you get to the beach bar and the further down the beach you go. It does make for some good shell hunting though. While we were there we did not swim in the ocean, only because we'd rather sun bathe or be at the pool side... But we did hear of some jelly fish sightings and the waves seemed to be washing up a lot of shells and coral. We also did not see any bathrooms too close to the beach. I believe the closest bathroom is near the pool that is closer to buildings #14 and #15, which we only really discovered on our last day because we never walked that far down the resort. My guess would be that it was about a 1 km walk from building #2 or even the lobby, all the way to the beach. Which isn't terrible, just not entirely ideal if you like being closer to your room. The pools were nice and clean. And during our stay in mid-November, there weren't very many people at the resort so there were always pool loungers and beach loungers available. We asked one of the employees why it seemed so quiet and he said that we were going to get up to 200 guests at the resort during that one day... We noticed a slight increase in guests but it was short lived as the following day a group was leaving, so it was not very busy during this time and was almost strange that it was so quiet. The food in the buffet was ok... My husband is kind of picky so he wasn't too impressed, during breakfast we ate waffles and omelets, which were prepared in front of us rather than sitting in a warmer. My husband still found the the food had a different taste because of the oil they use, but it didn't really bother me. We were warned in advance to bring ketchup, so we did, however this resort had ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise so we didn't really use ours. We ate all of our lunches at the snack bar, as the lunch buffet only opened at 1pm. The menu was small, but the food was alright. We basically lived off of ham and cheese grilled sandwiches for lunch all week. The funny thing was that they didn't often have french fries. They served their meals with "banana chips" which are plantains and we're really good, but the last few days we were lucky and got actual hand cut french fries. The snack bar also served the best drinks in the whole resort. There were two bartenders who worked there the week that we were there (an older gentleman and a younger one) ((side note:: strange thing about this resort is that no one wears name tags)) they served the best cappacinos and rum and cokes. Like I mentioned that the lunch buffet was only open at 1pm, the dinner buffet didn't open until 7pm, which if you're traveling with children I would imagine could be a problem... Now the snack bar is open 24 hours so you could just eat there all day, but if you wanted a decent full meal you'd probably want to book an a la carte that was available for reservation as early as 6:30 which is slightly more reasonable... For the most part the a la carte meals were good. We only ate at the buffet one or two nights only because we didn't wasn't to repeat the a la carte that was open that evening... There was only one a la carte open a night, French, Italian, Asian and Cuban were the only ones offered during our stay. I do believe we heard that they did change the menu during the week though, so if you wanted to go to French twice because it was opened more than once that week, the odds are the menu would be different so you'd be able to have a different meal than the time before. All the menus included an appetizer, a soup and a main course, and then of course your choice of dessert. One positive comment from my husband was that the ice cream was bang on. Most of their sweets were really good and their breads too, if they were fresh... They seemed to serve stale bread from the day before so you had to be careful when choosing buns and bread. We found the coffee to be a bit strong, but still good. Cappacinos were made from a machine in the main buffet but like I mentioned before, the snack bar had the best, they were made from steamed milk and espresso. On another note about food, they don't offer room service. During the evening's there was almost always live music in the lobby leading up to the 9:30 show in the theater which was off the lobby. The music was good and the entertainment team was always trying to get people up to dance. There was a middle aged man there who must have been a dance teacher because he would bring women up to dance and teach them all the steps. It was a nice atmosphere to have drinks after dinner, the only down fall is that it was the only place to really do this. As another note, the lobby area seems to be the only area where the staff would come ask you if you wanted drinks. The pool and the beach did not include this service. You had to go to the bars if you wanted drinks. We only attended two of the evening shows and one was the Michael Jackson tribute, which was pretty amazing! The impersonator (not sure if it was one of the regular entertainment team members or someone who does shows across the island) was bang on! He must have studied MJ's manuerisms because he nailed it! The other nights we just ended up either in bed early or chatting with another couple that we had met and didn't notice that we missed the show. On the third day in, my husband got sick, he spent half the day in bed with a sore stomach and frequent visits to the bathroom. While we kept to ourselves that day, we later learned that other people had similar symptoms. Later in the week I started to have some symptoms but Pepto Bismul seemed to really help. During our stay the weather wasn't always nice, we had about 3 days of all day sun, and the other 4 days were overcast or raining. It got cool in the evenings and there was some wind almost every day, which was good during the sunny days but often cool during the overcast days. We didn't do any excursions as the historical ones we were most interested in doing required us to travel back across the cosway which was about 40 minutes. There were other excursions by cadmaran but we opted not to go. We were later told that the best cadmaran excursion to get your money's worth was the sunset cruise which is a cadmaran drive to the dolphin enclosure to watch the sunset, where they serve lobster dinner and there's an open bar. You stay fully dressed and just enjoy the evening. The staff on the resort were very friendly and they even commented on how they feel like a family. They seem to enjoy their jobs and were very pleasant to talk to. Most of the serving staff spoke decent English, some better than others, but most were good and you could chat a bit with them. Whether you tipped the servers or not they were still equally as nice. We had reason to believe that they all share their tips. There were boxes all around the buffet and the bars where you could deposit your tips rather than leave them in the tables. We believe that they have officially done away with the CUC currency during our stay, but best to check for more official documentation before traveling. We found out in the airport on our way home. It seems like they'll be accepting USD as a main means for tipping as they don't accept CAD coins. Unless you are able to get Cuban Pesos. Our overall stay was nice, it was a warm get away which we spent lazing by the pool soaking up the sun.

Friendly Staff and Brand New Resort

Very clean and well maintained grounds. The gardeners work hard to keep everything picture perfect. We came as a group of 23, and the staff connected with almost every single one one of us, even the kids. They set up a table for 23 for all of us to seat together during meals. BEAUTIFUL RESORT WITH BEAUTIFUL STAFF

We were very happy during our stay in Grand Aston, Las Brujas Santa Maria. Beautiful resort with friendly staff. The rooms were clean, the pool was infinite and the beach is fabulous! Definitely be back for another so need vacation. Ricardo

Beautiful resort

Overall the resort is clean, friendly staffs, pristine beach, and delicious food. My only suggestion is, they should open the disco/club room so people can enjoy dancing. There is no need of DJ, just music . Or maybe add on another Karaoke night.

Its a great resort

This hotel is really great for family and friends we had a great time .the staff is really friendly. The staff in the snack bar are awesome. The dining staff is really nice our table is ready all the timE.

Mondern resort

The resort it self was modern and clean, most of the people were great, the ones that spoke English. The food was to be honest the worst we have had and we have gone to Cuba 4 times. There was no pizza, they ran out of fries, the snack bar had very little food. The buffet was not good at all. There was only one cook top and they only served chicken and meat, there was no pasta station. The best day in the buffet was the day we left. I had to wait 45 minutes for 4 pieces of chicken one day, the people in front were taking 30-40 pieces. They only had 1 restaurant open per night and the food was good. The shows were good at night.

Nice hotel

Hotel is located close to the small airport. Beach is pretty and people at the hotel are amazing. DJ Yamikel makes good time even better. Pool bartender Chino makes best drinks. Cinderella from reception is cute. Rooms are clean.

L hotel a été vendu a des chinois a ce qu on ma dit le 1er avril 2019 ,nous sommes arrivée le 5 avril bel hotel ,bon service,propre ,pas beaucoup de monde .En arrivant ils nous ont proposé la section adulte mais notre chambre était dans la bloc 2 pres de tout la section adulte était plus pres de la plage avec un buffet privé une piscine avec annimation tout cela pour 200dollars de plus par personne .Les resto a la carte était tres bien ,grill sur la plage avec service, et grill a la pisc [... read more]ine principale mais je n y ai pas mangé.Le buffet tres pauvre des morceaux de macreaux mariné pas du tout apptissant jamais de pain frais n y gateaux pas de frites pas de pizza,quelques fois du riz frit mais c était la fille d attente.Pour les végan c était tres décevant tres peu de choix et répétitif.Pas beaucoup de fruit en parlant avec une préposée elle nous a fournie des mangue de chez son voisin tres apprécié.Plusieurs personnes sont passé chez le voisin je ne sais pas par ou il y allait c était le Dawa et la c était parfait du pain des gateaux des légumes et fruits a volonté .Un soir ils ont fait circuler un feuillet d appréciation et je me suis plaint qu ils n y avait meme pas d ollives et le l endemain par miracle ils en ont servi au buffet c est dire qu ils il avait probablement autre chose et qu ils avait probablement instruction d attendre le passage de la possession du nouveau proprio qui lui est responsable de 49% du complexe.La plage magnifique beaucoup d ombre et d autres complexe en constructions.L eau est tres belle mais le fond de sable est vaseux pas vraiment agréable pour moi !Nous avons eu une journée de pluie et le lendemain il y avait un Baracuda de 4 pieds qui se baladait sur le bord de la plage parmis les touristes qui tentait de le prendre en photo il n a jamais attaqué et le samedi il avait disparu , c est tres sauvage beaucoup de choix pour la plongée en surface.Annimation bien, un concert pop un soir a la piscine un autre avec une chanteuse tres agréable au lobby au théatre un passage pour les tout petits un spectable pour général a 9heurespm.

Better than expected

I titled the review this way because I had read alot of negative reviews but they were unwarranted.The resort is new,rooms are nice and beach although some shells in the sand was great.The beach you could walk for miles and no sinking,the water was always calm because of its location.The food although repeated was good,and the ala cartes were great.The workers were some of the nicest we have ever met in our years of travel.

Good

Overall this resort is a 4 star. The grounds are beautiful. The beach is gorgeous. The only thing I would say, is they kept making very hard bread, it's what they eat in the Cuban culture, however most of the guests were Canadian and from Europe, so we like a nice fresh white bun. Finally they caught on, as the Cuban bread was wasted, no one was eating it. Still though, they would only make very little of the white bread, I spoke to the chef and showed him how everyone eats the fresh white brea [... read more]d, so to make more, instead of wasting the flour for the other terrible bread, hopefully he will... The a la Carte restaurants were very good. Most days the buffet was very good too! Food was very tasty! Sometimes it was repetative, but not bad. There is always a lot of pasta, rice, chicken, pork, veal and fish. Those are the main staples. Sometimes there was crab, and shrimp. Hector and Ariel were awesome servers at the buffet! The pools were awesome. The shows could have been better at night. Not much class. The same thing all the time with their butts shaking... overall it was a stunning place, they just need to make a few changes to make it a 5 star. we would go back again.

Nice Resort!

We had a restful, relaxing vacation at Playa Vista Mar the week of April 18-25. Room was clean, staff was great, and food was acceptable. The resort was at very low capacity so it was really quiet; not a place to go if you’re looking for entertainment. The beach is on a sheltered bay which provided a different experience from the wind-swept, white-sand vistas of Cayo Santa Maria, but it was still very lovely in its own right. Great value for the price point.
