Resort was very nice!

The resort was well maintained, always staff around sweeping, mopping, dusting, picking up left glasses or plates. The restaurant staff were very attentive, and for once the red wine was not 'always' cold, a couple times it was.... They had a person with a fully loaded drink cart to travel around the pools, that was pretty cool. Never seen that before. Buffet was good, food was warm/ hard to keep it hot.... salad bar was VERY good, lots of choice. A' la cart restaurants were very good [... read more], and you didn't have to line up for reservations. First come first served and they had lots of room. We only had to wait at 1, and we went 6 times. Wasn't real impressed with the Japanese, it was buffet. Overall, I was extremely happy with my vacation.

Fabulous Resort

Enjoyed our vacation at Riu Dunamar. Staff were very helpful when needed. Staff were always cleaning bathrooms, walkways, pools and the beach. There was quite high winds the week we were there. The beach was fairly rough with an strong undertow.

Riu Dunimar - Beautiful Resort

Resort was absolutely beautiful, new and fresh and modern. Service/staff were amazing, friendly and always happy and smiling. Food quality was the best we've ever experienced. Negatives: no coffee maker in room (which was huge for me). No slippers/robes in the room. No room service available at this resort. Not enough chairs around the pools, had to get up before six am to save chairs (which you are not supposed to do, but everyone did), some guests saved chairs and never came back to use [... read more] them. Beach was not well maintained with tons of seaweed that is just left. This resort is a new development, north of Cancun and we felt very secluded. It felt odd to have no where to go, which resulted in great RnR.

Fantastic resort

The Riu Dunamar exceeded all my expectations, the room was large with everything I would expect and more. The grounds were clean, well maintained with lots of beautiful shrubs, flowers, trees. The water slides were fantastic, and it was great that there were 2 levels of slides available, a separate water slide for little ones and a bigger one for big kids of all ages. The food and service was amazing, no complaints at all.

Almost perfect!

We were very happy at the resort! It is new, so it was very clean. The beach, the food, entertainment, pools, were excellent! There were no bugs. Just be careful when buying excursion's from the Sunwing reps at the resort, make sure that everything is in writing and take a photo of the receipt. We were told by HECTOR at Sunwing that we are getting the VIP package, that's why we went on this tour to Isle Mujeras, and upon walking into the VIP lounge for lunch were told we do not have a VIP  [... read more]bracelet. I know it's not a big deal, but we felt so stupid. We verified with the staff at the island and indeed were sold a non VIP and charged for a non VIP, so, why did HECTOR tell us it was VIP that we were getting. We were expecting VIP!! This left a very bad taste in our mouth. It ruined an almost perfect trip for us. Such a shame.

Amazing trip

We absolutely love the Rui Dunamar, the food the service was impecticable and delicious ,all the à la cartes were great. If you are going in an early excursion the sports bar as packed lunches. The service is awesome, the beach is beautiful and goes for miles, thé waterpark is great but hurts if you burn lol The management will sit with you if you have any issues ,we stayed week but wished we booked two! Visit isla mujeres , pay a taxi 20$ to go to ferry and then pay for a golf [... read more] cart 45$ a day bring your drivers license and enjoy what it has to offer, snorkel at the beach at Mia hotel for free beautiful fish ... all and all we enjoyed this vacay so much and we travel so much. The last pool is the party pool with great entertainment with pineapple, Olympia,JCarlos, and Linda

Top notch resort

we loved everything ...the buffet restaurant terrific every day.. .We did eat at the Steak House and were not too happy with that meal... That was the only other restaurant we ate at... We were very impressed by the cleaning staff...sweeping etc constantly...and staff all very friendly.

Totally met expectations – Just as described

Resort was perfect size being easy to get around, but yet, large enough to get lost if you wanted. Both family and couples friendly. New, clean and super, super friendly staff. I have never seen so many cleaning and grounds workers in my 20 visits down South. Would recommend to friends.

Very Nice New Resort

The resort is new and you can tell, nice décor, nice beds, new pillows, and upgraded washroom facilities. The resort was very clean, the washrooms were always clean which is a welcome site from other resorts I have been at. The restaurants were good, although only one true a la carte, others were partial buffet and partial a la carte. The food was very good all over the resort with the exception of the hot dogs in the sports bar (looks like they sit for a long time). Nice idea is that they have a hotel photographer taking pictures if you would like, downfall is they are very expensive to purchase. The entertainment in the evenings in the theater were fabulous. First time I have been to a resort and actually enjoyed the shows. The beach here is just beautiful. Love that you can walk for a long time either direction. There were always lots of chairs on the beach, didn't matter what time of day you went down. I don't know about the pool areas as we spent all of our time at the beach. The best drinks were made in the sports bar. We did teach one bartender by the theater how to make paralyzers- and he was very good! This is the perfect resort for anyone who enjoys the beach and is happy at the resort and not going anywhere. It is a bit of a distance to anything, but if you know that going in- then you know what you are in for. The one thing I missed most was having a coffee maker in my room. A coffee shop and/or smoothie bar would be a nice addition. Overall this is a fabulous resort with a great staff, and it was a perfect home away from home!

Wonderful resort

Being brand new everything was in great condition.Beds were comfortable.Housekeeping was great.The grounds were constantly being maintained.Easy to get around and everything close.Looked like a big resort on the picture but everything was convenient - no need for shuttles as at some resorts we have been to.Food was great - I am vegan but there was plenty of options for me.

Lovely new resort.

Rooms were great. I think all rooms had a partial view of the water. AC was a noisy hum. Grounds are well kept. Still developing. Very clean; always someone around sweeping; mopping; wiping. A la cartes were at most a 40 minute wait depending on the night. They also seemed to be hit and miss on the food quality. We went to the steak place twice and the first night the steak and ribs were tender and tasty. A few nights later, they were dry and tough. We walked out and went to the buffet.  [... read more] Jose in the lobby bar always had a smile on his face and was very friendly. Evening entertainment in the lobby was nice. ie: sax player Evening entertainment at the theatre was not very good. One night was "Mr. Riu" and other "Couples Night" so you know when they do that, they do not have entertainers and are just making up a show with some guests in it. The only evening that I enjoyed was the Circus show; it was excellente! Our first night there, the fire alarm went off about 4:20 in the morning. Scared the bejeebers out of me as I had been in a deep sleep. We left our room and went down four flights of stairs to the lobby. There were no staff around the hotel except one person in the lobby to advise us on the situation. It was finally determined to be a faulty sensor at pool#4. Our last night there (wee hours of march 01st), the alarm went off three times. It was a false alarm each time and at least this time the staff was quicker about advising us. Whatever is setting off the alarm; it needs to be looked after. Resort is 45 min north of the airport so a bit remote especially as there is currently no bus service. Cab ride is $30 one way. I would return to this resort if they fixed the fire alarm sensor and had a shuttle or bus service. Also need to improve their evening shows.

Very nice new resort

This hotel is very beautiful, grounds are neat, pools are nice, entertainment and food are very good. I would suggest asking for a room near the elevators as it is a very long walk to your room if you are not located near an elevator. Beautiful beach but hotel is not located near any other tourist activities, so plan on staying at resort.

From the time we walked in to the time we walked out we were treated like friends and greeted with warmness by all. The hotel was spotless. The food was too good. The water park was a lot of fun and never busy so line ups were non-existent. The pools were beautiful and they ranged from party pools to relaxing pools. The beach was amazing and we spent most of our time there. Our room was spacious and our partial oceanview was breathtaking. Our beach waiter Augusto was so nice and made our stay ev [... read more]en more fun. Our waiters were always amazing and a special shout out to Arcadio at the steakhouse restaurant. The night entertainment was fun and the staff were tirelessly energetic and a lot of fun. I have recommended this resort to everyone and we are already planning our return.

Great relaxing resort

The beach is the highlight of this resort. Beautiful beach! Has a little of everything for everyone. The rooms were clean and spacious. The room bar was restocked daily. Everything was very neat and clean. The food was great with lots of options for everyone. The staff was very helpful and friendly with smiles from all of them. The resort has a lot of room for those that may want a little space for themselves. There was no real options for snorkelling, which means that you would have to go on a [... read more]n excursion for that. The resort is very secluded with a 25 -35 minute drive to downtown Cancun, so this resort wouldn't be recommended for excursion lovers. But it was a great place to relax and enjoy good entertainment every evening at the spacious stage area. It would be nice to have washrooms a little closer to the beach. Overall , we enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful vacation at Riu Dunamar!

This new resort had everything needed for an amazing holiday! The grounds, rooms, pools, food, decor, staff, entertainment and beach were all up to the Riu standard. Traveled in a group of 6 adults and everyone had a great time. The resort is a great size that made getting around very accessible. The beach is crystal blue, with soft waves and there were always available chairs and palm trees for shade. The beach staff were also often in sight for drink service. The resort itself is beautiful and modern which makes for a more upscale atmosphere. Don't miss the Beach Party, the fire dancers were a definite highlight!

New resort great staff

lots of different things were offered. Everyone was so welcoming. We could play beach volleyball or be in the water with some crazy people from Montreal. We all had a great time. Food well can I say it was great everything anyone could of wanted it was there . Loads of fresh fruit and different restaurants that we could go to. Just be prepared nothing else around Cancun is 1 hour away. Great sand for anyone that wants to walk several miles.

Amazing Resort

From check in to check out, we were truly in Paradise. Check in was easy and quick....travelled with friends. We had requested rooms close in proximity and when we arrived, we were not given these rooms. We politely asked if available, and they were more than happy to make it happen. They were very accomodating and friendly. The rooms are spacious, modern, and clean. The colour scheme in the rooms, and throughout the entire resort have a relaxing feel. The showers are equipped with shampo [... read more]o/shower gel combos and we never had an issue with water pressure or temperature. The a/c unit is kind of noisy, clunks when comes on or shuts off, but let’s be honest, you get that in Canada at a Holiday Inn or Sheraton, so not really an issue. Fridge and liquor are restocked every other day. The pools are crystal clear and warm. Lots of loungers and shade....water slides are fun and even have loungers and shade by them. We noticed a lot of little ones enjoying the kids slides as well. The food...do not even know where to start....breakfast buffet consists of normal choices, then more...soft boiled eggs, poached eggs, ready made omelettes, fruit is very fresh and plentiful, breads, jams, crispy bacon, meats....lunch consisted of pasta bar, cold meats, cheeses, salad fixings, taco bar and ready made subs, soup and crackers...main supper...so many options. We never ventured from the buffet as always great meals and options...roasted turkey, roast beef, roast chicken, lamb, fish and dessert bar and ice cream options great. We did hear people comment on the a la. Arts...no reservations required. Lobby bar always had fresh popcorn and peanuts for snacks. If you are looking for great service, food and seclusion and relaxation, this is definitely the resort to choose. Transfer from airport is approx. 45 min...not much around for way of day trips etc., but the area is being built up, so I would imagine eventually taxis and or bus will go that way.

Review of Riu Dunamar

Amazing beach, can walk along the beach for hours. Turquoise water, in good weather. Staff are very friendly and attentive. We ate dinner mostly at the buffet because of the good variety of différent meats and fish. At lunch we ate at the Italian restaurant, the saumon was really good. Drinks were good and made to order. Our room was big, very clean and face the océan. The unightly entertainment was fun, and well attended. The coffre in the buffet is bad, but we just got our expresses [... read more] andetc. from the Sports Bar, where it was gréât. All in all despite, mostly a cloud and windy week, we had a gréât time.

Accessibility

As a new hotel I was expecting everything to be in working order. However, the accessible pool was closed. It is also important to note that there are only two elevators. One at each side of the hotel. The hotel design is very open but if it rains the all tile floors become slippery. A lot of walking as the hotel wheelchairs were not always available or in good working order. The staff were awesome, very hard working. It would be a nice idea if guests had some spanish knowledge.

Loved it

my wife and i found this riu to be a fantastic resort beautiful grounds awesome beach and pools theres food for any liking the staff keeps the grounds extremely clean .rooms were awesome and yes the ac does make quite a noise when turning on but you get used to it . the buffet can use more staff existing staff seems overworked during peak times. also nice not to be pressured into any time sharing..would return in an instant
