Would stay again

Best Cuba resort I've been to. Better than the Dominican trip I took. Amazing staff, clean, relaxing. Beach was fantastic. Food was good lots to choose from. Go see the boys at the beach bar, Victor and Oscar so fast and friendly. Highly recommend

First time at Grand Muthu

This resort is amazing. The grounds are well kept. Rooms are modern and clean. 3 pools. just beautiful. Staff friendly and helpful. The beach is a little walk but hey on vacation, a little exercise does not hurt. A la carte restaurant very very good. The only negative is the buffet. Not much choice, food cold. Spare yourself the disappointment and stay somewhere else.

Pool and beach were the high point everything else was bad. The screwed me out of a room with a queen bed and gave me 2 doubles.. then threaten me with a no ocean view room without compensation for the change. Customer service staff are useless. Maids either replaced our towels with dirty ones or merely picked the towels off the floor still wet and hung them back up hoping we wouldn’t notice. One day they left us with no toilet paper and when I asked for a roll at the front desk they handed me [... read more] a little waded up bundle and told me I would have to wait for the maids to come in later in the day. There are thousands of flies in the buffet area all over the food constantly I felt like I was in an episode of lord of the flies, enjoy eating the fly excrement with every bit you eat. I watched kitchen staff at the snack bar wipe noses and sweat off heads with bare hands and returned to prep food without washing… on one occasion I saw a completely naked Cuban gent walk right be the prep station at the snack bar and I can only imagine that they have a shower back there but REALLY. Service sucked hotel managerial staff were not helpful and actually were very rude. The area is nice but not worth the disappointment avoid at all cost or stay and don’t eat there… if you come back with Covid it’s likely the staff not adhering to safety protocols. I generally don’t give bad reviews but from the sunwing rep on-site to just about every element of the vacations this one completely deserves it,with the exception of the pool and the beach everything else was just sad. For a large portion of the vacation the only drinks they had were beer, wine and rum, the had no vodka, tequila, whiskey, or red wine… was happy to get out of there.. book elsewhere and I will be contacting sunwing to discuss the lack of assistance from there rep and hotel staff in resolving our room issue… 🤦🏽

Absolutely amazing!

We had such a great experience here and we'll definitely go back. The room was nice, clean and comfortable. The view was incredible. The beach, pools, grounds, everything was beautiful. Staff were super!

A wonderful week!!

This was our first time in Cayo Coco. The resort was perfect, the food was good, drink were good and the beach was simply amazing!!! After not traveling for 2 years, this resort was exactly what we were looking for… A nice relaxing vacation with a beautiful beach and wonderful staff!

Great resort. People were so friendly.

The hotel was great very clean the food was good. Our room was beautiful. We were in building 7. The view from our room was directly on the ocean. Just fabulous. Our maid was spectacular. I can’t say anything bad at all about the hotel. We loved it. Definitely going back!!!

Nice resort . . . But

This is a nice resort as buildings and grounds go. The beach is fantastic. Like all beaches, you must be a very early riser in order to get shade. Don’t be fooled into spending extra money to go to Pillar Beach because it has nothing that this beach doesn’t. There is no snorkeling at this beach though. We didn’t follow the entertainment mostly because of the mosquitoes at night so we can’t really comment. Covid rules were very low. Masks were worn by the staff which was good but sanitizing of surfaces was not apparent and there was a definite lack of sanitizer. Carry your own! You had to wear your mask in the restaurants but of course only until you were seated. There was someone on the door with a spray on sanitizer on the way in to the buffet which was good. Staff was great. No issues there at all. General cleanliness was fair. Our rooms were cute. Fridge was not stocked. Safe was broken. Our toilet broke mid-week and it took two calls to have someone show up to fix it. Unfortunately the fix did not last through the day. We had to tie up the lift in the back of the toilet tank so that we would not have to listen to running water all night. It would not flush. Bathrooms were generally clean but it was always iffy as to whether or not you would find soap or hand towels. The chairs and sofas in the main lobby were very dirty and need to be replaced. The walls in our building were dirty. There were animal prints in the walls below one of the windows the whole week we were there. The stairwells were very under-lit! There was a little market about 100 feet away from the entrance to the resort but we happened upon it. It was not advertised. Food. Well let’s just say that there was some. The snack bar was understaffed and the food was under par. No bread due to shortages. The buffet was adequate. There are three a-la-crates. Cuban, Italian and Indian. Of the three the Cuban was the best but the others were mediocre. Would we recommend this hotel to others? We would but we would make them aware of the shortcomings because the price we paid was good. The shortcomings may have been a result of covid shortages following shutdowns. A revisit during better times would tell. Hey folks. It’s Cuba! You go for the sun and water and the price!

We have been here for our 4th time and just love everything.

Everything in this hotel for me was a 10. The grounds are beautiful. Rooms kept very clean. Beach is to die for. Didnt go to pool but it is also very stunning. Service and people are great. I keep going back so got to be good.

The beach

The only reason yo go to this hotel is the beach . It has one of the best beaches in cuba other than that the rooms are falling apart , the buffet is too small for the amount of people . My bed was missing a leg -5 unsuccessfull attempts to fix it,safe broken . Room keys would only work once then they were toast . Staff were great but they are great everywhere in cuba

Lovely resort

The resort is beautiful, very clean and very well kept. The staff go out of their way to help you and make your stay as pleasant as possible. There are shuttle busses to take you down to the beach or the restaurants down the hill. Almost all rooms have an ocean view and most have balconies. The restaurants try very hard to have what you want, but from time to time, some things may be in short supply. I always found plenty of delicious food to eat. Good Resort but not 4.5 *

Resort has one of the nicest beaches in all Cuba. Friendly Staff doing the best with what they had available to them. Hotel was obviously dealing with shortages in both staff and supplies. We have been to Cuba many times and lower our expectations accordingly. Overall would rate 3.5 of 5.

The good, The bad.

I’d like to start off by saying this is my 9th trip to Cuba. I do not consider myself fussy, at all, I know what to expect when in Cuba. This is our experience from March 3-10/2022. The good, the bad, the ugly. I have read many post on the hotel Facebook page and was extremely excited to arrive, my first trip in 2 years it was time. Our room was always cleaned, the building was always clean, the grounds was clean- over all a very clean resort. Sometimes the washrooms would be messy ( public area) but majority of the time always clean. The pools was clean, the beach clean, and always tons of room. We never had an issue getting a seat at either place. The power was out a few times but restored rather quickly. Wifi is free and works great! The drinks was always spot on! They had many options and the bar staff was amazing! Our fav guy was located in the pool bar, he made some of the best margaritas, Pina Colada’s and strawberry daiquiris. The lobby bar has a drink called street lights, that’s really good as well, they have an ice coffee that daughter loved ( strong coffee flavour) the Miami vice & blue lagoon where a few of the other favourites. All these drinks are made virgin too for all the littles who like yummy drinks as well. The a-la cartes are a must! The best food we had all week, we did Cuban and Italian and both was absolutely amazing! We did the jeep tour, it was a full day but so fun, not a lot of kids around to give treats to and that was disappointing to us, but it is a fun day and well worth the money and memories. The private island they take you to for lunch has puppy’s and they are so precious- the chicken meal they serve is amazing!!! Now the ugly. Let’s start with the food, now I know you don’t come to Cuba with high expectations of the food, but at every resort I was at you could count in eggs, bacon, bread, pizza and pasta. There was always eggs every morning, and rolls…. But never no bread, butter , ketchup …one day there was bacon no other time on the trip was there any, no pizza at all, not even at the Italian place, one night we had a pasta station after that we had none. There was always fresh beef and chicken, that could be friend- always fresh veggies, but there was not a large selection at all, and out of all my trips to Cuba this was the worst selection to date. None of the stores on or off resort had any snacks at all, so my suggestion is to bring lots! The snack bar almost always had fries and a chicken sandwich ( on a bun) that was yummy! I by no means am picky but honestly there was very little selection, and disappointing on the pizza and pasta! I ate veggies, chicken & rice all week so didn’t starve but if you do have fussy people- it may be hard! The a la cartes had more selection and the best food! There is a restaurant with a red roof down on the beach & they In saying that Wednesday was inspection day and things came to life at the resort - we had a pork roast dinner& it was amazing. Entertainment- there was no shows all week, even though they was scheduled! They had a few outside in the court yard area, kids music than some competitions between adults but nothing like normal, tell Wednesday night when they had their Cuban dancers and that was truly amazing! This was a huge disappointment for me , entertainment is a must! And I was very saddened there was only 1 show. For being a 5 star resort that should be big. Also every day at the pool they’d have the entertainment doing a few games for kids and dancing but that was it. No bubbles like I seen on the Facebook page, no volleyball, no nothing, it was very quiet! We was in block 7 & it was beautiful even on the first floor we had An amazing view! However the septic or sewer was outside our deck and If the wind was blowing the smell was awful. That lasted about 2 days, and then the wind blowing in a direction that we could enjoy the deck :) Overall, I have stayed at 3.5 stars that have offered more than this star. I truly and honestly see the potential for this being a 5 star. If they upped their food game just a bit & entertainment I could see this being a 5 star, but deff not as is. I know covid has taking a lot from us and in no time they may be running at 5 stars. I loved this hotel, very much, just fix those few things and I’d return.

Fair

Grounds-Easy to get around. Poorly light at night. Gardens poor. Public areas - good and well kept. Rooms - first room did not have working air conditioning and they moved me. - second room safe did not working and they fixed it the next day. Also the frige did not work and was never fixed. Dining - it was spring break in NB and the buffet was busy and line up very long. Poorly staffed. when everyone left on the Sunday it was better - food okay Bea [... read more]ch - was okay but it is a 5 min. walk Pool - good Shade - little shade and everyone was looking for a space with shade around the pool.

Family Friendly Resort

Pool area and beach were lovely. Some of the signage around the resort was very tired and dirty, overall public spaces like snack shop and stairs and stairwells could have been cleaner. Buffet was quite disappointing and I was surprised that most people served up their own food where at other resorts staff served the buffet food to guests. Also several guests going to the buffet without masks and only once did I see a staff member ask them to put a mask on.

Nice Resort

The resort was nice. Rooms were clean and we had a great view of the ocean. For the most part the staff was friendly. We had to constantly ask for water, beer and coffee for our room. Very poor service for something we paid for. Unfortunately our vacation was ruined by having so many locals staying at the resort with their children. The kids took over the pools and the adults took over the restaurants and bars. I will never go again.

Solid 3.5 star

I have previously travelled within the Royalton chain, staying on their properties 4 times in the past. This resort, while completely suitable for a family vacay is not up to typical Royalton standards. If luxury amenities and first class service is important to you I would recommend the Royalton Punta Cana, as you would still have access to the amenities at royalton splash (ie: the water park). Pros : MYKAL the waiter at the buffet was amazing - he really made a difference in our stay and  [... read more]in fact almost all of the buffet staff was fabulous! Including the hostesses! The rooms were well appointed. We had a family suite and there was lots of room. A/C worked well and our housekeeper was great. Room service took a long time but that’s to be expected - you’re on island time! The food at the buffet was repetitive but good. Although 2/5 of us did get food poisoning one night - we narrowed it down to a chicken skewer from the buffet - no big deal could easily happen here in Canada as well! Grounds were well kept and the kids loved the tennis court, teens club and water park. We hung out at the main activity pool and the servers from the swim up bar were great! Super friendly! The entertainment “vibe” team was..meh. They lacked any real vibe and we’re hot and cold as far as friendliness and engagement are concerned. The beach was AMAZING! So pretty, white sand and turquoise water, no seaweed at all. Walk over to the beach was easy (about 7-10 mins but we walk fast) there is a shuttle but we didn’t use it. Cons: getting into a restaurant was such a chore, in fact we only got in on our last night. We went to the Mexican and the service was absolutely atrocious! Probably the worst service I’ve ever had. We ate quickly and left immediately. I was really disappointed. Could use more entertainment and engagement from the vibe team. Service at the front desk was ok. Definitely not 5 star. Lack of access to the buffet at royalton PC was a disappointment. We were literally told to use it we had to pay $15 pp per meal. I knew that we couldn’t access their restaurants but the buffet?! Seemed bizarre. Covid protocols: testing was on site at royalton PC and was really seamless. We had the results in less that 24 hours which allowed us not to stress too much. All employees wore masks even outside. We felt super safe. That said many (the vast majority) of the Europeans that visit do not wear masks, not even inside at the buffet and it was not enforced by staff despite signage that said it was mandatory to wear them. We are not all that worried about Covid so it didn’t bother us but I think it’s worth noting for those who are concerned. Overall would we return? Yes, if we got a great deal but we certainly wouldn’t rush back. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a family vacation in a safe and fun location. Just manage your expectations and don’t over pay just to get away - that way you won’t be dissappointed!

Amazing not!!

Nice beach and pools. Beautiful large room. Food was ok. Friendly staff. 1 BIG NEGATIVE ISSUE….Although it is the hotel policy that everyone wear masks indoors unless seated, There are many Russian guests indoors…in lines at the buffet… walking around the buffet.. hovering over the food… at the bar etc.. either not wearing masks or are wearing them as chin straps below their nose and mouth.. management confronts them.. They snicker or completely ignore them and management gives up and w [... read more]alks away. MANAGEMENT IS UNABLE TO ENFORCE THE COVID HEALTH AND SAFETY PROTOCOLS.

Great Resort.

We found rooms and generally all areas clean and maintained. Ala Cart restaurants were very good. Staff were friendly and attentive. Drinks and bars were also good 👍. Pools areas lots of seating. The beach area is also quite nice. If we have any complaints it would only be the pool side entertainment as well as the nightly entertainment was very poor. Otherwise we'll pleased with Muthu

Nothing but problems

Upon entering the property we had encountered issue after issue in which were not resolved in almost any matter and when they were supposedly taken care of we came to realize that we would just run into another issue. The property was not well maintained and found that broken glass that we spotted on major pathways on day 1 was still there in our last day. We choose this resort because of all the great reviews and I’m not sure what happened but not one of the reviews I read supported our exper [... read more]ience and in saying that I had met a couple that was at the resort back in November and they said them selves that when they came than it was great and that’s why they decided to take the family there for Christmas vacation and that they weren’t sure what happened but after this experience they would not return. It was like a completely different resort this time than last.

Nice Stay

We stayed at the Grand Muthu this past week and found it enjoyable. The resort is a nice size and not to big. The rooms clean and comfortable (building and rooms cleaned daily). We were in building 8 and had a beautiful ocean view. This resort has a buffet, 24 hour snack bar, along with Italian, Cuban and Indian themed restaurants all of which were decent. Pools were nice however we found the water to be a bit cold although refreshing once you get used to the temperature! The beach and ocean is quite nice if your a beach person. The ocean water was nice and a great temperature for swimming. When the tide is out the water is shallow and you can walk out from shore quite a bit and during high tide the water gets deep a little quickly. There are some reefs near the shore if you snorkel and water activities available at the beach and pool. The beach does have a bar and small restaurant which was open from 1-3 pm daily for lunch so you weren’t obligated to go to the buffet from the beach. The staff was exceptional. They were attentive to all guests. Many of them fluent in 3-4 languages. So communication was not an issue. Overall nice resort for couples and families would definitely recommend.
