Hotel Los Cactus: Excellent Resort

My wife and I along with ou r 5 grown children have been to the Breezes many times and have yet to have a bad experience. The staff is excellent and we have made many good friends at the resort, As a matter of fact we just spent the July long weekend at our cottage talking about the Breezes on occasion. The rooms are good but in the caribbean you can expect a few insects. The food is adequate to good but keep an open mind as not everything will be the same as in Canada. Free booze, golf included [... read more], internet okay but frequently off. The best part is the staff, very accomadating as long as they are treated with respect. The beach well there are few better. Take the trip you will really enjoy the place!!!!

Sol Palmeras: Adequate but didn't quite meet expectations

For a 4 star resort we were looking for a little more than we got. Our room was in a wing of the main hotel. We thought the food could have been better tasting in both the buffet and the restaurants. Short on restaurant servers at times. And the facilities are showing age. That said it was an adequate stay and we might be willing to give it another try. The facility options were decent, the grounds kept well, and the room attendants were very good. It was nice to be right on the beach.

Barcelo Solymar: Splendid staff and wonderful accommodations

This was my first Barcelo experience and I was pleased with my vacation. Front desk man Oscar is the man who gets things done professionally and quickly. Animation team is fun and friendly. Accomodation was acceptable.

Roc Arenas Doradas: Good Value for the money

The grounds and public areas are very beautiful. Pool and beach were the best points of this resort. I just found that there was a LOT of walking to get anywhere but that happens with larger resorts. A couple of downfalls I would like to mention. after the first few days, it was next to impossible to get a TIKI hut unless you PAID one of the lifeguards to save it for you. The reservations filled up very quickly and the hours the person was available was a hit and miss situation. We were told we could not "pre-book" all of them and to come back the next day. We were the 3rd people in line and we were told they were booked up..... not to mention we left the next day.

Sol Varadero Beach: Great Times

I had a lot of fun at this resort. I reserved a room in the cosmonaut building. My room was really nice and clean. I had a very nice bathroom with a large walk in shower. The housekeepers were there everyday and made sure i had everything i needed. They also made funny things out of the towels and left them on the bed. I was supposed top have a bottle of rum in my room with the fridge stocked but when I arrived there wasn't anything in my room, but the workers at the cosmonaut took care of every [... read more]thing. The cosmonaut was really nice - it had a billiard room, sitting room, its own bar and restaurant but there weren't any instructions anywhere letting me know what was available and how to go about using them. My Spanish is really bad and its the first time I've been away so everything was very new to me. It was really quiet over there, i actually didn't really see anyone the first few days. It was only a short jot from main building. The pool was perfect, swim up bar never had a bartender though!! I loved going in the ocean the beach was perfect. We took a long walk down the beach and our beach was by far the cleanest and nicest. There was entertainment and shows to go see. I went swimming with the dolphins...amazing experience! We would of liked to go on a few more excursions but they weren't ready for visitors?! The food wasn't actually that bad. We brought soya sauce so we ate a lot of chicken and beef stir fry's. They had pringles and munchies to buy. The only real complaint is the bathrooms in the main bar/lobby got really bad/dirty at night, but it got better as the week went on. And i upgraded to the cosmonaut building so i could have the lobster supper and a few extras but after 3 days of asking for lobster I kept being told tomorrow and then finally i was told that there would be no lobster. Part of the gang that went on the catamaran excursion though got to have lobster. So that was a big disappointment - i actually searched through several resorts and lobster was one of the main points to my booking there. So I was really bummed, but I would go back there, I felt very safe and the staff is quite amazing. They made sure everyone got back to their rooms at night after having a few too many lol. I would recommend the cosmonaut building, thats where i would stay again. Everyone else said their room did the trick in the main building but i guess i was spoiled after being in my room. Go to Cuba you wont regret it! Hope this helps.

Playa Caleta: Fantastic place for the money

i have been to Cuba many times now and have stayed in several resorts from 3stars to 5stars with mixed results. But in this case, i have to say that this was the best stay of them all. the food was delicious and well prepared, the staff were extremely helpful and very friendly. the bars were well stocked and very excellent service. the rooms were clean and the shower always hot. everyone there went out of their way from the general manager all the way to the cleaning staff to attend to any conce [... read more]rns that might arise. frankly when i travel to varadero from now on, it will be the only place i stay. also because it is on the airport side of Varadero you are closer to town and all the great sights and restaurants. like kikki pizza place, capones and casa del chef!!! i would highly recommend this place to anyone and have already done so several times since i have been back. in fact i have already booked another trio therefor later this year. Don't take my word for it, check it out yourself. Also you have access to the resort next door and all its amenities including the swimup bar.

Valentin El Patriarca Varadero: good resort

New hotel, really nice, clean friendly staff. Recommended for families. Beautiful grounds, beautiful beaches, nice weather good location good price, excellent weather. Not too big which is great. Fabulous

Melia Peninsula Varadero: Wonderful resort!

The grounds are well kept, the staff are friendly and polite. The rooms are a good size and the beach was great. I would recommend this resort.. The food was not the best but we always managed to find something to eat.

Club Kawama: Very good resort close to downtown

Very helpful people, friendly Close to downtown Rooms clean and well looked after Service was very good and I enjoyed the entertainment close at hand and the night life. people are so friendly it makes you not to go home. Would go there again.

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: FANTASTIC !!!!

Dispel the rumours about Cuban food. This resort competes with the best in the world. I would go back in a minute. Service, beaches, and overall resort cleanliness was top notch. Never a dull moment!!!

Roc Barlovento: Older Resort but no complaints

The resort grounds could use some paint and new bedding. But the layout is great and the staff were wonderful. The food was not as good as a 5 star but I didn't pay for a 5 star. If you go hungry that's your own fault. The hotel is only a short cab ride to the bars and markets.

Club Kawama: LOVED IT

The hotel staff was amazing, food was good to great. Some buildings were still in renovations but what had been completed was beautiful and they kept the area neat and tidy. Always saw staff walking grounds keeping it clean. Staff was friendly and helpful, always willing to help and chat. Location was within walking to market, or to take enjoyable taxi or carriage ride. We are returning to the same site, no point in taking a chance to be somewhere unhappy

Iberostar Origin Laguna Azul: Beautiful Stay

The beach and surrounding views were beautiful however I do have to comment on the hotel rooms themselves. Since we didn't spend much time in them it didn't bother us but one of the flush buttons on the toilet didn't work and the breaker was blown. Therefore the T.V and the mini fridge didn't work. We got it fixed however!:) The locals are beyond nice and the workers were hilarious!

Starfish Varadero: Good Value - Great Beach - Friendly staff

Came back for a second time - Was not disappointed, Really good value. Had a medical situation that was quickly handled very professionally. My wife and I loved to walk the beach. Would recommend to others.

Resonance Blu Varadero: Very good for the price

Hotel Villa Cuba: Loved It!!

Everything was excellent with our stay at Villa Cuba. Segei at the front desk is the BEST!! He went above and beyond to make our stay a memorable one. The fellow at the coffee bar was very friendly as well. The pool, Alla Carte restaurants, grounds, beach, weather, shopping (within easy walking distance), and the people of Cuba were all a wonderful experience. We ARE going back someday, maybe, hopefully this next winter.

Punta Peninsula Varadero: Got what we expected

This was our first time in Cuba, but extensive Research had showed us that generally 5 star resorts tend to be like 3 or 4 stars. This prepared us massively for our trip. Key things to know about this resort - 1. Blau Marina Varadera is RIGHT at the tip of the varadero stretch. This means that it is completely surrounded by the ocean. Makes for amazing views, and easy, all time access to the beach. The beach is literally 3 mins away from your room door. No matter where your room is. 2. In our en [... read more]tire week there, I saw only 2 drunk people. This could mean that the alcohol is weak in Cuba (a little) or that the people at this resort know their etiquette (very true). 3. Staff is nice, food was strictly ok. Vegetarians (like me) will not have too many options, but it's best to leave your foodie self at home and come prepared to sacrifice that aspect of most travel. 4. The beach, activities and service were amazingly good. Entertainment was standard. Mosquitos were LARGE (all across Cuba). For those who like the travel by the local bus, the bus stop is right outside the main gate of the hotel. I truly believe that hotels which on paper are supposed to be better than the Blau would not have matched the location and beach access that this place had.

Paradisus Princesa Del Mar: Beautiful resort!

Very nice, quiet, friendly adults only, resort - Staff, very friendly and helpful. Lots of space to sit around in the shade, and read or swim - beach nearby - nice facilities to wash sand off the feet before returning to room.

Barcelo Solymar: A good resort

Good resort for young people with a good location, close to downtown Varadero. Rooms and facilities were clean and the beach was amazing. This is my 3rd time at Solymar and I must say the only complaint is the food, which was far better when I first visited the resort years ago.

Gran Caribe Sun Beach: Great Location

Great location! The grounds and pool were quite good but definitely a 2-3 star. Front desk staff were very poor and unhelpful but the rest of the staff were OK. Not 5 star OK, 3 star OK. The room was dissappointing overall but the bathroom was very nice.TV did not work but my wife and I did not really care about that. It is in a wonderful location. Right across from a great beach. We could walk to shops and food and a bit of a walk to the bank. Front desk was not helpful with money exchange or b [... read more]uying water but we found a place to buy bottled water 2 minutes down the road and the bank 25 minutes away. Bus and cab always going by and next time we will take the double decker bus for a ride. We would definitely go back to Veradero for a relaxing and inexpensive vacation. We would probably try a different hotel next time but would go back to Sunbeach if it was priced better than other places. The meals were OK on the whole. We could always find stuff to eat. Our travel agent with Tripcentral was Cathie. She was great! She explained the hotel to us, as she had been there, so we knew what to expect. She was also very prompt in returning phone calls and very upbeat, courteous and positive whenever we spoke. I would highly recommend her. I would recommend this hotel if you are on a budget and don't expect much but we will likely try a different place next time.
