This was our first trip with our kids (6 and 7 year olds). Food was great, service was outstanding, friendly staff, amazing entertainment for kids and adults. fun pool. overall, very satisfied. Definitely thumbs up. keep in mind that the beach isn't the greatest in that area so we stayed in the pool.

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Not Impressed
I'll start off by saying I travel at least 2x a year. The hotel grounds were nice. I'm not fussy, just want sun, sand, beach and simple comforts. However, the hotel staff were not very accommodating whatsoever. Not happy people, miserable actually. Nothing worse than getting a blank stare when you ask a question or try to get help at front desk, and yes they spoke English. When I booked I was told they would try to accommodate 3 older ladies with providing an extra bed or cott or couch. That did[... read more]n't happen, even if we had received a mattress for the floor, it would have been better than nothing. 3 times we had to go down to get a remote for TV that worked. They never left 3 bottles of water, had to go down and ask everyday, were short on our towels. With Sunwing you're supposed to get 30 minutes of free internet, every time we went down they said they were to busy, even when there was nobody at the front desk to check in. I had to basically tell them I wasn't leaving until I received it, after 4 days. When booking they didn't tell you that Tours would not be offered from Thursday to Monday Easter Weekend, so you had 3 days, try booking when a full resort were all trying at the same time, also because of the shutdown, we couldn't get any of our 3 restaurant meals, not one. The waves were so huge and crashing so hard they constantly had to run sirens to keep people not only out of the water, but they wouldn't even allow you to stand near the edge. So no snorkling, or swimming in ocean at all. Apparently this is normal for this area. The beaches are so short you can't go for walks unless you paced back and forth, pictures were very deceiving. Food, OK, after 3 days of same food you got tired of it quickly. For older folk, (50-60) you would have thought they'd consider where your room was, nope up on the 4th floor. Very noisy, no quiet. The cold Jacuzzi pools were nice, larger pools were very dirty, although I saw them clean them, they were not sparkly at all, very cloudy. You had to pay for your umbrella, and the tenant on the beach tried to get more money than we were told. When we wouldn't pay the extra he took the umbrella down, turned around a told the next person $2, which was what the hotel said we were to pay, he wanted more from us.....can't figure it out (we may be older, but we're hot). Any attempt to accommodate us would have went a long way. It wasn't just us, another lady was put in a room that was still under construction, tools, wires laying in sink, ceiling leaking onto the bed, she went through craziness trying to get into another room....ridiculous.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Very Relaxing
This was our 4th stay at a Gran Bahia Resort and it was exactly what we expected. Clean, Comfortable, and Relaxing with Great Service and Friendly staff.
Luis at the Main Buffet is amazing and deserves a promotion. He should be training everyone on how to treat guests, it wasnt only us it was everyone that crossed his path.
Jennifer, Yuliesi and Mayellin were also exceptional bartenders/servers. the Meditteranean restaurant is excellent.
The Main pool is very small for the amount of pe[... read more]ople and the seats are filled w towels very early, that is really the only issue that I had. Usually i love the pool and the swim up bar at resorts but it was next to impossible to find a decent seat. we kept to the beach which was cleaned every morning and we had no issues w sand fleas as ive read in the past.
Service on the beach would be a huge plus!!!
Other then that we got exactly what we expected.

Majestic Mirage Punta Cana All Suite Resort: Don't go there
There is nothing good I can say about this hotel.
I really cant believe that they have good reviews. My only guess is that some people are wowed by marble and bali beds(which were filthy)
Thankfully I was able to have Air Transat get me transfered to a REAL five star hotel in after 24 hrs
I was there April 9th...
No distinction between adult and children
Dirty pool..dirty rooms..sewage smell...no visible staff...except in check in area...standing around.
Food aweful....poor presentation at[... read more] buffet..felt like I was a work in a conference room.
I talked to some people at the airport coming home and they said they would not return...one had food poisoning...as per other reviews.
I called trip central to ask about a different hotel but the agent pushed this ....no matter what hotel i asked about...she kept going back to this one..which was one I was not even looking at
I believed her and fell for it..also paid more than any trip I have ever taken...must be bonus for agents booking this!!!
I have been in customer service my entire career...currently self employed...work hard for my money and take 1 trip a year...
If Air Transat could not transfer us(at a cost of 516.00 extra) I asked them to fly us home and forfeit the vacation.
So in the end...I paid about 800.00 more than I should have and lost a day and a half ....the result..got to Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar Green..next door..where I had been last year...a true 5 star...

Riu Merengue: Another great trip
The Riu Merengue was great. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The grounds in the Merengue Garden are well kept. The flowering plants were in bloom making for a very pleasant setting.
The beach is constantly being raked to keep it clean, the water was warm and pleasant.
The quality of the food has improved since our stay last year with lots of choice to suit every taste.
All in all the Merengue Gardens is our resort of choice and we will be returning next year.

Riu Bambu: Very nice, BUT
Very nice resort. The staff was very friendly and entertaining. Just 2 issues. Only 2 sheets on the bed. Talking to other guests there is an extra blanket in the closet. We had no extra blanket. Asked housekeeping staff for a blanket. No luck. Asked the front desk twice. Again no luck with the promise of "yes seniorita right away", NOPE!! So we froze all week. If we turned air off then the room was too hot, so we chose to freeze. Secondly I left a pair of earrings behind in a drawer. I emailed [... read more]them upon my return home. They got back to me 2 days later and said they asked housekeeping staff and said they were not found. I don't believe the housekeeping staff took them. I just think they didn't check the drawer in the room. Sound advice, leave your jewellery at home. The earrings are still there I'm sure. Now the resort is closed for 3 months. Oh well, live and learn. Had a wonderful vacation anyway.

Melia Caribe Beach Resort: Great Resort but really huge
Melia Caribe Tropical is a great resort with beautiful nature( plants, trees, flamingos and peacocks), great decorations, very good food and free WIFI all over. We had some minor problems with our room but they were quickly solved by resort's staff after our arrival. We had a great weather and very good time. The only thing we found the resort really huge, needed few days to know our way around and had to use trains to get to beach .
Thank you for all your assistance.

Melia Caribe Beach Resort: Our third time to this resort
This was our third time to this beautiful resort. 2013 & 2015 our two sons, two daughter-in-laws and two grandsons enjoyed the resort. 2017 another grandson (8 Months) old joined our crew. The weather was perfect as always. We all loved our accommodations. We attended three al-cart restaurants and enjoyed all of them. The buffet restaurants were perfect for our breakfasts, lunches and remaining dinners. Our grandsons loved the ocean, beaches and the very clean pool. They loved swimming up[... read more] to the swim-up bar and ask for a chocolate shake. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Hope to see you all in 2019.

Occidental Punta Cana: So very impressed!!!
We fell in love with Occidental from the moment we pulled up to the lobby! We couldn't have asked for a warmer welcome or a smoother check-in. Everyone was so eager to help us have the best stay possible. Our room was beautiful and the A/C was as cool as you wanted it to be. The staff was so respectful and always had a cheerful "hola" whenever we passed. The beach was so amazing! Plenty of chairs for everyone and lots of opportunity for shaded spots. We had no issues with leaving our towels at o[... read more]ur chairs and going for breakfast, they were still where we put them an hour later. The grounds are immaculately kept and the attention to detail is noticeable. The entertainment at night was great! The bars are well stocked and the Presidente ice cold! It puts a smile on my face just to write this review! We will definitely go back, and we will bring friends!!
This place went above and beyond from the minute we arrived until we left not a single issue to complain about. Rooms were clean, maids kept the minibar stocked and towels fresh, the buffets always had something to eat even for my wife with allergies, pool and beach were gorgeous lots of places to sit, a la cartes had great food and courteous staff. Transportation was generally prompt and always available. Very enjoyable vacation didn't want to leave. We are already looking to book again this [... read more]fall

Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Quality resort for the right price!
The resort is slightly showing its age. The rooms, though clean, look used and abused. The common areas are well maintained and well spaced out on the resort. The restaurants offer an acceptable variety of food but like most inexpensive resorts, the à -la-carte restaurants are way below average. The beach is quaint and well positioned between rock escarpments which prevent locals from venturing onto the resort. The three pools offer something for everyone: one noisy with lots of entertainment, a[... read more] second larger quiet one for families and a third adult oriented small pool. There are also three cold water adult-only jacuzzis. The staff is friendly and accommodating if you remain calm and polite. If you're on a budget yet want to experience a typical all inclusive sun destination, then this resort will not disappoint.

Essentia by Emotions: Just ok.
This was a very small resort. We stayed at the Essentia side by the beach. There was a very small pool for this section of the resort but it was overrun by kids. We had a swim up room which was great as we were the only ones using it from Sunday to Thursday until all of the locals showed up for the Easter weekend. The beach was nice and were able to get the same chairs every day. There were a lot of pushy vendors trying to sell you crappy merchandise, tours and massages all day, every day. The[... read more] food was substandard. The only good meals we had all week was at the Mexican restaurant and the Dominican. The service was good through the entire resort for the most part with a few exceptions.
The room was a fair size and kept very clean. The grounds are kept very nice.
We have always stayed in resorts that were pretty isolated which makes for a very quiet and relaxing stay. This resort is close to the large city of Santo Domingo which makes it very accessible to the locals. There is also a fair bit of traffic noise.
We would never return to this resort.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Returning Vacationers!

Dreams Onyx Resort and Spa: Now Onyx Punta Cana - AWESOME resort!
This resort exceeded expectations, we would highly recommend (but kinda' don't want to only because we'd like to keep the secret so that their future prices don't go up! lol)
- We stayed as a couple in our early-40's.
- Food was excellent, including the buffet....didn't have a bad meal. They even had healthy/natural options which was great!
- Room was great...spacious & well designed. We elected for the "preferred club swim-out king" and it was perfectly located. "Preferred Club" was well [... read more]worth the extra money; waiters were in abundance throughout the day, never went more than 10-15 mins. without a someone checking with us. Cleaning staff came around twice daily (I think due to being preferred club) which was great + a separate beverage service to fill up our mini-fridge and/or any other beverages we wanted. One of the best perks was the Preferred Club Lounges which not only had top shelf liquor but also had food/munchies morning to night. The P-C Lounge also enabled us to check out privately which went extremely smoothly.
- Service all-around was OUTSTANDING @this resort.....from our butler, Manuel (who was awesome), to the Preferred Club Lounge bartenders & Concierges...and also the wait staff around the pools + on the beach.
- The beach was amazing - MUCH better than Bavaro Beach - and not nearly as busy. We walked it every day, sometimes twice!
We would definitely recommend this resort - easily the best resort we've stayed at thus far! A big THANKS to Nicolle for taking the time to discuss HER previous experience there, her recommendations & for helping us with the booking.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Not A 4 1/2 Star
We just spent 14 days at the RIU Bachata in Puerto Plata .
The first night was not good, our room was only set up for two people and there was three of us. I went to the front desk and explained to them that this would not work for us as my sister in law would not like to share her bed with the wife and I and that we needed another bed put into the room and that we had requested that when we booked our trip,The women on duty said that this is how Sun wing sets up the rooms. Then the manager tha[... read more]t night said he would get it done in the morning and they did.The next problem was the air condictioner . The room was always warm and even though they sent some one up to look at it never got any better they just put it off as being to hot out side and the equipment to old.I think this resort needs a magor up grade and should only be rated as a 3 ½ star. The next issue that we have is the beach in front of the Bachata it is very dirty and disgusting ! Their was garbage floating in the water and on the beach it self. My wife and I and another couple went walking on the beach and found a Sirenge and the Needle still in it , they took it to one off the shops on the beach and they just said no problem and put it in a hollow tree trunk, THIS is NOT EXCEPTLE.!!!!!!!! They need to do something with the intertamment . This is not good for a 4 star resort. We found the food to be excellent and the room maids excellent along with all the staff .

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Good for the price
Overall, good resort if you are travelling with friends/family. 20 mins from airport
There are a LOT of pools and VIP areas thus, resort is quite segregated. (different types of VIP - lifestyles beach and harmony beach are for timeshares, VIP - junior suites access)
No issues with getting a chair around the pools as there are not many people there.
Beach was nice, lots of rocks/seaweed in the water in some places, to find a spot that works for you. Waves can be quite strong at times for child[... read more]ren including the undertow.
Entrainment was good when they had it. As the resort is so large, I felt the entrainment staff were quite spread out.
All bartenders were fantastic and no complaints with the alcohol.
Buffet (pearl) was good (even for a picky eater) but did not have a lot of options.
Brazilian and Italian al la cartes were amazing.
Spa services were good - if you book a massage, you get to use the pools, hot tubs, sauna all week.
upgrading to the Junior suite was worth it
- room was beautiful
- AC worked amazing, sometimes too cold
- fridge is only stocked once/week - water daily. if you want it stocked more often, find the guy filling the rooms, tip him a few $$ and he will fill it every day for you.
- Junior suite comes with VIP beach access - this area was a long walk from Cofresi but there were lounge beds, bartender service to your lounger and you could order food (food was good, sushi available as well). No pool or actual beach in this area but there were a few "cold tubs".
the only time i was bothered for timeshares were outside of the Buffett but this only happened maybe twice
The only downfall I found was:
The golf carts!. Members get access to the golf carts and drive them around ALLLLLL the time forcing me off the path onto the grass to walk.
Shuttles are slow thus, you are forced to walk everywhere.
Was it worth the money - Yes
Would I return - No
