Ocean Coral and Turquesa: Games Played at Check-In
When booking privilege honeymoon suite as a couple you would not expect to be assigned a room in the family section! Check-in took 90 minutes as we were not about to spend 10 days with families. We finally were assigned the room we booked and paid for. Then we were assigned a butler that was useless. Couldn’t book us in any restaurant unless it was 6 or 9pm, couldn’t book a bali bed, couldn’t give us a bottle of the privilege wine that was to be in our room. After one day of this terrible but[... read more]ler, we met up with the head butler, Brandon and what do you know? We got into all restaurants for the rest of our stay at 7 or 7:30, our friends received a bali bed for the week and I finally got the wine I paid for. The difference between terrible service and wonderful service is all in the butler. It was a terrible start to our 10 day vacation but then it turned around and ended up nicely.
The beach had a lot of seaweed but they cleaned it up well each day. However the beach loungers were in very bad condition, they looked old and saggy. The El Beso pool was very clean, but very crowded. The loungers quite comfortable. Jose and Alexander were very diligent in keeping everyone happy with their towels and water. And the best pool server, Ricardo! He was very happy and excellent at what he does. Having said that, he is the only server around this pool…he was run off his feet!Restaurants were the big disappointment for us. Food was just ok, mostly just lukewarm at all restaurants. Service for the most part was slow. But, we realized that the restaurants are severely understaffed. I think that would be the big thing with this resort. Understaffing which seems to be why they can only seat half the tables. The buffet, in my opinion, was one of the worst Ive seen at an all inclusive for a long time. Definitely cater to kids. Where were all the vegetables? It seemed to be all burgers, hot dogs, pizza, fries and various pastas.
On a positive note, this resort is clean, beautifully landscaped and well maintained but would we go back? No!

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Cleanest I have ever stayed in!
The food was great in all the restaurants with enough selection to satisfy the pickiest eater. The rooms were amazingly large and comfortable. The staff unbelievably friendly and helpful. This is the second time I stayed at this resort and still not disappointed with anything. The staff appear to be constantly cleaning the public bathrooms and they did an awesome job cleaning the rooms. I am hoping to return a third time next year!

Dreams Aventuras Riviera Maya: Great resort!
Overall great place. Great staff, great food and drinks.
Areas of improvement could be the beach sand which is hard and rocky. Pillows in rooms were terrible. Musty smell in our room. Decorative ropes hanging in rooms could be eliminated.

Barcelo Maya Colonial: Never disappoints
Barceló hotels are so well designed for every guests needs. Amazing service, beautiful grounds and comfortable accommodations. We love this resort for its variety of restaurants and amenities, gym spa ball courts and tons of things for kids and adults of all ages to stay busy. Nice they don’t put the small water park way back of the resort like so many other big resorts. The entire resort is on the waterfront with a beautiful view and path to walk to the other Barcelo resorts. No golf carts requ[... read more]ired as every restaurant is on a well signed path which is covered if it rains. If you like to get out on the water and experience Hobie cat sailing and no experience, friendly staff will take you out for free. Just book at 9:00 day before. Beautiful beaches, bring a mask and snorkel some water shoes and snorkel right off your own private beach. Amazing if you are an early riser to encounter Sea Turtles right at the waterfront. There are magical Cenote parks close by to explore and much more. It’s worth the extra time to get to the resort. Only an hour from Cancun but the beach and hotel is with it. 2nd time stay. Going back this December.this year.

Catalonia Riviera Maya: Nice resort but would not return
The resort is small, pretty, clean and friendly. Shows and entertainment were good
We got the privileged package but nothing other than different colour beach towels differed from the regular package. We had a renovated room but not in the privileged section, not two beds we requested ahead, no a la carte reservations ,except the included Bloved which was just ok. The reservation system is a bad joke, we tried every day before 8am and were not able to book one. There is not enough chairs around[... read more] pool and beach. The lobby bar and sitting space way too small for the amount of guest, not possible to find a seat! The buffet was ok, great selection of fruits, very few deli or cheese options. Never seen smoked meats or fish/sushi. No themed dinners, food very repetitive and not warm enough. Compared to food options we had at other Mexican resorts we went to , there are very limited choices. Also couldn't get a late check out (our flight was very late at night) as promised by one of privileged extras.

Grand Riviera Princess: Wonderful hotel
Everything about the Grand Riviera was excellent. There are plenty of dining options and the quality and variety was excellent. Bars are located throughout the property. Plenty of shaded sitting areas by the pools and beach. Attached tennis club worked well for our group. I will definitely return for a third time.

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Great resort but loud nights.
Third visit to the Barcelo Caribe. Love this resort… great beach, lots of evening options with shows and the mall, excellent beach volleyball court and pickleball courts and other sports courts. Food was great, buffet and ala cartes, however one in our group did get food poisoning, exact source unknown. Basic Caribe rooms are okay, could use some renos but bed was comphy. Nights were a problem. Only got one decent sleep in ten nights due to parties in next room and loud drunk people in hallways [... read more]and leaving disco at 3:30. Called the front desk numerous nights. Sometimes it helped, sometimes it didn’t. Each of our visits the night noise has been worse. Not sure if we’ll go again because of this. Royal Hideaway Playacar: A Hidden Gem
The resort was fantastic and exceeded our expectations. It was everything we could asked for and more. We could have stayed longer and left us asking for nothing .
The resort itself was extremely well kept. What you see on the website is actually what the grounds and beach look like. The staff kept the grounds impeccably manicured and did so in a fashion that they did not distract from the experience. Every morning we woke up and the beach only meters away was raked, furniture re-organ[... read more]ized and any bits of seaweed were removed. The water was like swimming in a post card. Crystal clear blue, white sands and sandbars out certainly several hundred meters. The beach was the largest on the strip, with only about 200 guests its was wide open and perfect. If the ocean is not your thing, pick one of the many great pools and maybe one of the activities after lunch.
The staff from the restaurants to the bell hops were beyond gracious and courteous. Everyone was very helpful and you always felt it was about you.
Most activities were available for no cost. Available were tennis, basket ball, bikes, pickle ball, Bocci Ball and much more. There is also a games room and pool table off of one of the bars. The standard sailing and scuba were there if you wanted to pay.
All the restaurants were amazing. This was the highlight as the food was truly five star and not a typical cheaper resort. You name it, it was there.
Live music at the club, shows every night in the theater kept you busy till bedtime if you wanted.
In a gated community you could walk to town and feel totally safe. Area made it accessible to the ruins, cenotes and snorkeling in Cozumel if you fancy.
Adults only and your own concierge was a nice touch.
February was a great month, sunny and hot. Strongly recommend this resort, we would go back no questions asked.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Amazing Resort!
We loved the resort. The staff are amazing and welcoming. The grounds are pristine. Beach is beautiful and has a coral reef with lots of tropical fish. The pools are clean and there is poolside service. The buffet had lots of choices and is clean and spacious. The A La Carte restaurants we dined at were excellent - favorites being Tokyo for teppanyaki and the Italian restaurant which was located on this resort. The are a lot of activities available at the resort - Escape Room, Uspa which[... read more] includes a nordic circuit, bowling alley, fitness centre, surf ride, Dophnarius, go karts and more. The only negative comment I would have is the availability of chairs at the beach and pool. There does not seem to be enought because what they have is "reserved" early morning and there were quite a few people laying on the sand at the beach or on the green area by the pool. The resort was at full capacity when we visited, however, they need to invest in extra chairs They definitely have invested in having a great resort but the chair issue needs to be corrected.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Amazing resort.
We stayed at the Barcello Maya Beach Resort located about one hour from Cancun. It is part of the Grand Maya Resort consisting of six hotels. Stay at one, play and eat at them all. The hotel and its grounds are very well kept. Staff are friendly and helpful. The buffet has everything to eat and offers a daily variance. The other speciality restaurants are all really good and have to be booked in advance. We really liked the Italian Trattoria, seafood, second Italian restaurant and the Spa[... read more]nish Il Fuente one. There are numerous, connecting pools and water parks for the children from one end of the resort to the other. You can walk from each of them or travel on the “red bus” to reach each destination. The beach and ocean was also wonderful to experience for the break from the northern climate in February. There are length pools, mini golf, basketball, shuffleboard, and. Daily activities to partake in. We loved it all!

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Amazing Resort!
I’ve been travelling to inclusive for 25 years and will say that this was one of my better experiences. From the moment we checked in to checkout everything was top notch. Service, amenities, food, cocktails, cleanliness. Staff were very friendly and accommodating.
The only thing that requires improvement in my opinion is they do not have enough lounge chairs. For the first time in those 25 years that I’ve traveled, I saw people sitting on the sand and on the cement pool patios and grassy ar[... read more]eas. They need to purchase some lounge chairs. For what we pay to stay at this resort, this should not be happening

Akumal Bay Beach and Spa Resort: 3rd time the Charm!!
My wife and I as well as my sister and niece were at the ABBWR from Feb 22 to Feb 28 2025. Except for the Sunwing delay for 24 hours (another story) the ABBWR met all our needs. It was my wife's and my 3rd visit!!
Great staff, great beach and snorkeling right off the beach!!. Very good dining and a ton of choices and eating venues. My sister and niece are both gluten free and they were treated like royalty by Adrianna and Hector as well as all the other a la carte venues.
Yes - the buil[... read more]ding 1 we were in is in real need of an update (I understand building 3 and 4 have already been updated). The rooms are very basic and in need of an overhaul. Barcelo Maya Tropical: Great family holiday
Overall the hotel was amazing.
Check in and out was smooth without any issues. We had requested 3 rooms together on the ground floor because we were travelling with a small child and an elderly mother and were pleased when it was honored.
The staff were all friendly, the drinks were great, the grounds are beautiful and well maintained.
The a la carte restaurants were the best ... but they usually are. The buffets were good with lots of variety but were very busy but it was the season [... read more]we chose to travel.
The pools were wonderful and my 3 year old grand daughter especially loved the kids water park area. The beach was clean and super sandy. The only complaint was the chair game ... it's alive and well at the resort. I think some people save chairs at the beach and pool so they can go between both. The first day we could only find 2 broken chairs for a family of 7 but my husband started setting his alarm for 430am and put 4 towels on chairs together and he was surprised at how many others were doing the same thing so early.
The room was spacious, clean and well stocked. I had read reviews about the humidity in the rooms and it is absolutely true. There is definitely something wrong with the air conditioning/ventilation system because everything was always damp...the bed, pillows, sheets, towels and our clothes. We didn't see mold in our room but it definitely smelt moldy. When we arrived home we had to wash everything because they were still damp and smelled musty.

Viva Azteca by Wyndham: Lovely smaller resort
We chose this resort specifically because it was a smaller size than the mega resorts you often find along the Mayan Riviera. Food was consistently good and while we loved the lobby bar, the pool bar was hit and miss with the quality of drinks. While we missed having a swim-up bar in the pool I wouldn't trade it for the size of the beach and always having available loungers no matter what time of day it was. The lobby courtyard was beautiful and a lovely space to enjoy pre & post dinner drinks. Catalonia Riviera Maya: Nice resort
The resort had awesome bars and restaurants, although I found the restaurants hard to book. The buffet rooms had a great assortment of good food. The layout of the resort made it extremely easy to navigate. Our room was good, but if the bath tub on the deck was made into a hot tub, that would put it over the top. I have been to better beaches, but while snorkelling I did see a lot of marine life in the water. Overall, it was a great experience and I would return for another week some day.

Generations Riviera Maya: Very disappointed!
Our room wasn't ready, which we expected. Once it was ready, at 3pm, we waited for over an hour for our bags. Once we called to say they weren't there, they were sent quickly.
The rooms are spacious beds comfortable, good bathroom, however dark. We opted for a swimout, which looked nice but it was too cold. All of the pools were too cold to enjoy. There was water aerobics/water zumba posted every other day, however it never took place. I'd wait at the pool, no announcement, no excitement at all[... read more]. Very disappointing! There is no music playing, nothing happens. This was the most boring resort we've ever visited, hands down! If you don't have children with you, you can visit the El Dorado, where they have a band at 8-9:30, then entertainment at 10. This was enjoyable. They also have a few bars with people! The bar at Generations usually had 0 to 4 people in it. There is no " lobby bar".
The beach was another huge disappointment. There are cement barriers dropped all along the 3 resorts, it's rocky and not very swimmable. The beach itself it kept clean.
The food, well I have to say much better than most resorts. Generations, again very limited, but the a la carte restaurants were pretty good.
Some great servers, Alberto (takes care of the privileged area on the beach), very nice guy. He brought us drinks a few times. This was the only time we were ever offered a drink on the beach ir at the pool. Zero service other than Alberto. Jeremias in the buffet was very personable and attentive. Good often cold.
Our stay was with Air Canada vacations. The pick ip and drop off was excellent, we had great service. Our complaint is geared towards the resort. Our flight was a late one and therefore pu was at 7pm. There was no hospitality room although the place appeared to be nowhere close to capacity. They charged us ,$20.00 US pr hour to keep our room until 5, then said we had to check out. They said if we ate at the resort, we'd have to pay for another night! Wow, really poor service we don't make the times for flights or pick up, so rude service.
This was so disappointing, definitely not close to a 5 star as advertised.
