This hotel was much older than what I was expecting and could do with a few upgrades/improvements. I'd like to see a fridge in the rooms as well as some updates. There were 2 beds, one TV cabinet and a desk with two chairs. We lived out of our suitcases that were stored on the floor for 2 weeks, because there was no place to unpack and no place to put our suitcases off the floor. There needs to be a fan in the bathroom. I'd like to see a few small tables poolside. The food was typical of m[... read more]any AI's. The beach was lovely and the staff was all friendly and helpful. Oh.... the entertainment!!! Best part of the hotel. Those ladies and gents were fantastic. I would never say anything deliberately bad, but I likely would not return.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Great resort!
Amazing housekeeping staff! Some issues with our room but maintenance fixed them within an hour of our arrival. Wait staff were awesome and remembered your coffee/tea order from day to day. Buffet food could be hotter but great variety of food. Trolleys rarely run so be prepared to do some walking from the lobby to the beach and back, not a long walk but could be very hot at times. Lots of wildlife visible, deer, iguanas and coatimundi, thankfully didn't run into any crocodiles but there was a w[... read more]arning sign posted behind the BBQ area.
If you're taking an excursion early in the am, the buffet doesn't open until 7:00 am(our pick-up was for 06:30. There were no exterior lights on for half the resort or around the pool area, when we walked up to the lobby on the early day. Fortunately we had a flashlight as we almost ran into a deer on the sidewalk

Grand Sirenis Matlali Hills: Lovely spot - would come back
This place is visually beautiful, built into the mountains not on the beach like most resorts. They do have a regular shuttle to the beach club that runs all day The staff are super friendly and helpful. The rooms I saw were lovely and mine was amazing. I stayed in the adults only section.. 6201 is a lovely room and quiet. I met great people here and had a blast. There are a lot of Canadians which I liked. The mineral pool where you get fresh to order fruit smoothies is outstanding, my Favorite [... read more]spot to hang for a warm afternoon
The food at the buffet is fine, not great. Breakfast is better in the spot near the mineral pool and is also a pretty decent Italian a la carte restaurant for dinner. Make reservations early for any of the a la Cartes, they fill fast
Entertainment crew is fun they work hard and you’ll always find something to do
Even tho it’s all inclusive, please tip these staff - they work hard to please you and they deserve and appreciate it (use USD if you can, they get more out of it). Celso at the main pool bar is awesome, as is Joaquin in the Sky Bar, and the gal who makes omelettes in Huanacaxtle buffet is always pleasant , makes a mean omelet!
Word of warning: you need to be part mountain goat as this place is VERY hilly, but they are quite happy to scoot you around on golf carts if you find the walking daunting.
This is surrounded by beautiful foliage and lizards birds etc. I loved it

GR Solaris Caribe Adults Only: 5 Stars Paradise
Everything about our stay was exceptional. The Hotel was beautiful, quiet and clean. The food choices were diverse, and tasted better than all other southern trips ive been on. The sit down restaurants rival upscale outfits here at home. All staff members were always friendly and happy. The rooms were modernized, comfortable and clean. Surprisingly there was no musty smell which I've become accustomed to when going south. The adjoining resort is also exceptional and offers even more. Eve[... read more]rything is easily accessible and VERY close. My wife and I are so glad we chose the GR Caribe Solaris. Based on our stay, I can't think of a single negative or improvement to be made.

Hotel Xcaret Mexico: Amazing
This hotel property is absolutely stunning. I thought the lack of onsite entertainment would be an issue but it was not. So many different pools, lagoons and rivers to swim, snorkel and boat in that we didn't miss it. If we had too much sun, we simply went to one of the included parks. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Enjoyed our stay
My husband and I are fairly new to the concept of all-inclusive resorts. Things we enjoyed about our stay:
1. Convenient airport transfers.
2. The location - very central to access Mayan ruins at Tulum, Coba and Chichen Itza and away from the bigger tourist centres. The Tulum ruins were only 15 minutes away taking the local collectivo vans.
3. Sian Ka'an is one of five resorts connected by trams. Mostly full access to different types of resorts allowed us to try out different locations.
4. [... read more]Cleanliness - our room and all resort bathrooms were spotless.
5. Friendliness and helpfulness of staff.
6. The beach. The beach is private and kept immaculately clean. We never had any problem finding a chaise and shade palapa in the Sian Ka'an section.
The things we didn't enjoy relate more (I think) to the nature of all-inclusive resorts as opposed to criticism of Sian Ka'an
1. Food quality. Aside from a very good meal at Alux (Sian Ka'an) and a good meal at Los Corales (Brazillian Grilled Meat, Tulum Resort) we found the food to be mediocre. Some food was obviously made from powder and juices seemed to be mixed with tang-like fillers. There is lots of choice so we tried to stick to the least processed food - had lots of salads and fruit which was fine.
2. Buffet ambiance. The Sian Ka'an buffet had a real cafeteria feel to it. We ended up going mostly to the al la carte restaurants or the buffet at Hotel Akumal which has lovely views of the ocean and the buffet is in a separate room.
3. The hair nets staff had to wear. Not sure if this is a health requirement for all inclusive resorts but requiring all the wait staff to wear hair nets made the dining experience less than perfect.
4. The El Cenote snack bar at breakfast time (apart from the coffee machine which was excellent - way better than coffee anywhere else). For anyone interested in getting up early to go to Mayan ruins, golf etc etc, the only eating option was the El Cenote snack bar that advertised itself as a place to get breakfast. Yet there weren't any breakfast food options. Would be great if you could get something really simple like yoghurt, toast, eggs.
5. The sound system at the pools and in the lobby. The amplifiers were turned up way too loud making it impossible to find quiet little spots to sit around the pools. We eventually did find a separate section of the resort closer to the golf course that was very peaceful though the pool was quite small. Am pretty certain those that wanted to participate in all the games and activities could easily still hear with the volume turned down a few notches.
6. The extent of drunkenness. Again, not clear if that's the nature of all-inclusive resorts, but we were embarrassed with the number of people (mostly Canadians) who drank excessively. By the end of the week, a very large number of people had broken legs, arms and incredibly bruised faces from falling down drunk. Not great ambassadors for our wonderful country.
While we likely would not choose to stay at an all inclusive resort again based on our experience, we would certainly recommend the Bahia Principe to any friends who really enjoy that type of vacation. We met a number of people who return there regularly and just love it.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Left to be desired
Reception: Chaotic. Got taken care by a really nice guy...who turned out to be a time share's guy that was trying to sell something.
Room: Great. Got what I asked for, higher floor with an amazing gardenview (Building 8). Fridge restocked daily with 4 beers and 2x 1L water. Maid was great.
Food: Not too impressed. We found the buffet limited and not very tasty. We tried 4 a la carte (Oriental, seafood, steakhouse and Italian) and none were satisfying.
Beach: Didn't use it enough. Lots of weed[... read more]s though, didn't find it inviting.
Pools: Big pool is fun and lively, and the beer cart guy is a good thing. Small pool by our room was great for the more quiet time.
Entertainment: Adequate. Wasn't really there for that.
Drinks: Beer is good. Hard liquor is perfectly fine. But you have to be a "special" member to have access to the premium stuff
Staff: Depends. Bar staff, maid, cart drivers were great. Spa and time share people, just plain annoying.
Sports bar: Not a sports bar, just a bar next to the theater.
All in all, we overpaid for this vacation for a friends wedding. We went to much better resorts for way less money so unless you get a really good deal, I wouldn't recommend it.

Riu Dunamar: Very nice new resort
This hotel is very beautiful, grounds are neat, pools are nice, entertainment and food are very good. I would suggest asking for a room near the elevators as it is a very long walk to your room if you are not located near an elevator. Beautiful beach but hotel is not located near any other tourist activities, so plan on staying at resort.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Best Resort
Everything about Luzury Bahia Principe is amazing. This was our second stay, first time was June 2016 and now Feb 2018. The staff, activities, property, rooms, drinks and food are all excellent. There are so many great a la cart options (do the gourmet!). They offer so many activities like water balloon fights in the pool, ping pong, huge chess, pool basketball, pool volleyball, water aerobics, poolside bingo, archery, tennis, basketball and so much more! There are shows put on every evening, ka[... read more]raoke and dancing. On the flip side if you prefer to veg poolside and enjoy nothing more than the sun and peace and quiet with a drink in hand, they also have pools that are more relaxed with no music. Sian kaan is the best. I would highly recommend!

El Cozumeleno Beach: Great Value
This hotel is for the folks who get up early and want a quieter time. We chose El Cozumeleno because of the snorkelling and that was truly amazing! Right at the beach. The fish are so used to being fed that the minute you walk in, they are looking for it. We liked to take a half apple in and hold the stalk and they would swarm your hand while feeding. This is one of the few hotels in Cozumel that has a large sandy beach - others are very rocky (it's reef territory)
The hotel is dated both the "[... read more]new" south end and the "old" north wing, but very comfortable and clean. The rooms are huge with amazing ocean views and balconies/patios!
Staff are amazing and always quick to try and comply with special requests where possible.
Only 1 a la carte is disappointing and you have to start the daily line-up by 6:30 am to get a decent time slot for that night, which didn't matter to me as I had a book and met some great people in that line. But, it meant that I did not get to the gym as much as I had planned.
The food and service in the a la carte were excellent.
I could not understand the requirement to return beach towels EVERY day by 7pm and chose not to.
Was disappointed in the lack of evening entertainment. I think 3 evenings/week had something going but it was very amateur. Everything shuts down by 10pm.

Grand Riviera Princess: Good Resort
Although I would consider this Resort a 4 or 4.5 star rating, there were some areas that either needed improvement or takes away from the overall experience but it depends on what you are looking for.
The beach was not good, very rocky for walking into, not great for walking along either and too far from the pools/rooms
The food was hit or miss, you could eat healthy if you wanted to, all the salad fixings you want but no lettuce?
Whenever you asked a questions, the employees either pretended[... read more] they did not understand you or just didn't understand english especially if you were asking for something
Asked for two beds as with my daughter but they said there were none, however, people checking in after us did get two beds, how do they select this.
Way tooooooo many animals on the resort, an iquana jumped on my head when I was sleeping on a lounge chair, very unsettleing and I could not relax the rest of the week. Too many other anmials such as cats, and whatever that other animal is that roams around the garbage, etc.
In addition, the bed was so uncomfortable I slept on the couch two nights.
Overall I thought it was a decent resort but now looking at my comments once I have written them down, I would not recommend this resort to friends. Too large for anyone who does not want to walk a fair distance for everything. The beach was at least a mile from the main lobby.

Grand Sunset Princess: Will not go back anytime soon !
The beach bed was more comfortable than the one in the room.
Although tipping the room maid, did not had always the coffee supposed to be delivered.
The food , with one evening exception, was at best average. And this includs the a la carte restaurants. In one such restaurants we waited for half an hour to get even a drink of any sorts and the restaurant was half empty .
One beach bar serving other areas, as well, was always a 15 to 25 minutes wait, in the sun, for a drink.
The entertainme[... read more]nt was ... actually wasn't ... below average, and actually worse than some years ago.
Overall: no value for the money.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Nice resort, service not up to par
This was a very nice resort, great pools, lots of bars and restaurants. The rooms were great, everything about it was perfect except for the service. The staff there were not very friendly and the service overall was poor. It was consistently poor in every bar and restaurant, though there were a couple that seemed to care less than others. Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya: All needs were met
We had an amazing stay at Valentin Imperial Maya. Service was excellent. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Above and beyond for customer service. Food was spectacular. We had a guest in our group who is celiac and they crafted a letter for her to present at each restaurant so they would know. Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Exceptional resort!
We have travelled throughout the Caribbean. This was our first time to Mexico. To say the Sian Ka'an at the Luxury Bahia Principe exceeded our expectations is an understatement. It is smaller than the other 3 Bahia Principe resorts surrounding it and set "off beach" in the jungle. It was beautiful and tranquil. A trolley car system (we never waited more than 10 minutes) took us to any of the other resorts within minutes. We didn't miss being on the beach because it was so close and there was a r[... read more]eserved section for Sian Ka'an only guests. It was the best kept beach section in the area - a crew of resort employees worked all day every day to remove the seaweed that washed ashore and they were constantly raking the sand.
The resort itself is only 6 years old and beautiful in every aspect. The rooms are large and have high-end finishes that I've not seen in an all inclusive style resort. The employees at the Siam Ka'an were friendly, and genuine in their efforts to provide exceptional service. From the bar servers, to the cleaning staff, we were always met with an "Ola" and friendly smile. I can't say enough about how awesome our experience was. Paridise found! We will definitely be back.

Iberostar Waves Paraiso Beach: Wonderful Hotel!!
I would think that you would find it difficult to find anything wrong with this hotel. The Hotel was one of the best that our group has travelled to and we have been travelling together for 22 years.
