Melia Caribe Beach Resort: Mostly Good

Hotel and grounds are beautiful. Buffet and A La Carte restaurants were excellent.Very well kept facility.Toilets require 2-3 flushes every time.Service was Ok with mixed staff reactions...little eye contact polite but begrudging service style.Check in was brutal....totally understaffed...no explanation about baggage routines....stressful and borderline rude

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: The resort beautiful, the rooms not so much

For the most part, the hotel was great. The room wasn't. Our toilet kept getting plugged and our shower didn't drain. We had 3 women to one room...important to for the tub to drain. The beach was filled with sticks and seaweed and the water had about 10 feet of that also before you hit clear merky water. If you want a nice beach this isn't the place to go. Emotions by Hodelpa Puerto Plata: Basic 2.5 star resort

I find this review hard to write as there were many good things to go with some of the bad. Overall, we had a great week here (Feb. 17-24 for $766 from Halifax) and would go back again if we weren’t put in building 15. To put things in perspective, I usually travel to Cuba and stay at 3 or 3.5 star hotels. Here are my thoughts about Playa Dorada Beach House: Food – Better than expected. Beach grill was excellent for lunch and the buffet for supper always had something good – pork, chicken, beef, fish, vegetables, rice and a small salad bar. Jose in the buffet is an excellent server and so friendly and welcoming. Entertainment – The entertainment staff were excellent and tried to engage you in their activities (beach volleyball, nightly shows, etc) but were respectful if you chose not to participate. The nightly entertainment was good and not the same stuff that you see in Cuba all the time. Beach – Excellent, could always get a chair but not always under shade – but that was okay…I wanted sun. There were more beach vendors, approaching more often, than I was used to from being in Cuba. However, just a firm “no gracias” worked well. Staff – While some of the staff didn’t speak great English, it was understandable and they were very friendly whether you tipped or not. In particular, Mariano, who worked at the bar by the pool, was excellent. The drinks were great, not watered down. Room – Ahhh! Here lies the problem. When we arrived on Friday, the 17th at 7:30 pm ish we were put in building 15 – top floor. This room was terrible and no one should have ever been put in it. I was travelling with my two daughters and the room we were in only had one bed. Not to mention, the shower didn’t work - the lever that you pull up on the tap for the shower was seized solid. However, that did get fixed on Saturday afternoon. Another issue – the tub was filthy dirty, mold in it, etc. That did not get cleaned so we showered with flip flops on on Saturday. The final issue with the room – there were glass shards all through the carpet on the upstairs level, which did not get vacuumed up after repeated requests. We were moved on Sunday afternoon to Building 13 which was like Penthouse suite compared to where we were. I should also mention that we only had hot water once but I didn’t mind showering in cold to lukewarmish water. Many other people we talked to in that building also had similar problems. All in all, I don’t regret going there and I would consider going back again if I could be guaranteed not to be in building 15. This resort has a lot of potential.

Occidental Caribe: Very disappointed

The hotel looks great and the grounds are beautiful...from a distance. This hotel is very tired and worn out and in need of major repair. They only advertise the upgraded renovated section of the resort which is section 1 and 2 (there are 7 sections). The room we stayed in had electrical problems, lights worked some times, water and plumbing stopped working on day 5, the door looked like it had been broken and pryed into and there was no security locks on our door, the safe was broken and the [... read more] shower had a broken faucet with a long screw being used as the handle to control water temperature. We complained to the front desk, guest services and to the front desk manager and they told us they were booked at 110% and couldn't accommodate us elsewhere at the hotel. The pools were overcrowded, loud and lots of dirt and chipped paint/missing tiles in many parts of the pool so be careful not to cut your feet on the broken parts. This hotel was advertised at a 4.5 star and we paid over $1500 per person, it should be rated at a 3 star and no more than $1100 per person for the condition. The good parts - the food was great, the staff in the buffet were incredible and very friendly and helpful!! The beach was one of the nicest stretches of beach we've been on. The management and front desk staff were very rude and not accommodating to us at all, we had booked a king sized bed with a crib and they gave us a room with 2 double beds and no crib...they told us they wouldn't have a crib for us until day 4 into our vacation. I had to sleep in another bed away from my husband all week so that my infant wouldn't roll out of the bed. I would not go back to this resort and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Iberostar Selection Bavaro Suites: outstanding resort

There is nothing to complain about!!! Everything ( I mean e v e r t h i n g !) was perfect. Paradise on earth. Very friendly staff. The food was excellent. Extremely clean. Beautiful garden. Lots of space at the beach and the pool. Enjoyed the peaceful breakfast at the beach.

Melia Caribe Beach Resort: Melia Caribe Tropical

Stayed here the week of march 25. Beautiful resort as I was there 4 years ago but this time there was a huge change in the service u received. No pool side bartender that came around while in ur chair and no beach side service either. Also the quality and variety of food has declined as well. Our room was great no complaints there and the trolley was very frequent. Check in took longer than expected but check out was quick. I would ? Going bk there in the future

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana Beach Resort: Beautiful Resort

This was a nice resort with lots of pool space and a beautiful beach. Lots of great entertainment and fun things for the kids to do. At first we found it confusing to find where some of the activities were but as the week went on it was very easy.

Riu Republica: Amazing resort !

Grounds are very beautiful, Public area are very nice with lots of seating area , rooms are very modern and clean. The service is excellent. The Food is excellent. No reservations needed for the a la carte restaurants. I would recommend the steak house. This resort is amazing. there is lots of sitting area`s all over the resort for rest or drinks. love it.

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana Beach Resort: Fantastic !!!!!

We found this resort amazing. When we got there, we were upgraded to a fantastic Superior Suite with no charge. The food was good and the staff were terrific. No complaints at all. Thank you, Doug, for all of your hard work to make our vacation a total dream. Bob and Julie Eagan

Occidental Punta Cana: Stunning resort

Everything was beautiful! Very helpful staff. We will be back! Plenty of restaurant choices. Great buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The swim up bar was our favorite bar. We loved the snack bar located right above the swim up bar!

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Good time

This hotel is what it is, the buildings, stores and bars are definitely showing age, this resort is older however staff are constantly cleaning, painting and making an effort to keep the buildings presentable, the grounds are nice and kept clean. Pools were clean and plenty of chairs/loungers. The staff were nice and friendly. The rooms are dated but clean. There are little issues all around the resort because of its age. Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Great value resort. Lots of fun and good food.

Thought the resort was very nice for the price. It showed its age a little but the staff did everything they could to make the most of it. I thought the buffets were well stocked with many varieties of food and I never went hungry. I also found the French a-la-cart to be fantastic, with the other two being OK. Overall we had a ton of fun, with lots to do during the day, including a mini-golf. The nights were also very lively with drinks until 2am, a karaoke bar (tons of fun) and a disco. If the beach is your main thing then stay away for sure but we found the pools very nice.

Punta Cana Princess: Great Resort

I liked that the resort is on the smaller size....not a far walk to get to room,beach,restaurants or lobby. Beautiful beachfront,lots of sun shelters and loungers available but you do have to get up early if you want one. Beach is great for long walks and Princess staff can be seen clearing their beachfronts of washed up seaweed. Buffet restaurant offers a great selection of food...4 al a carts, my favorite was mare nostrum. All staff was friendly and helpful, felt very welcomed.

Majestic Mirage Punta Cana All Suite Resort: Amazing Resort!!!

The hotel was so clean and the staff was honestly the best staff I've ever came across, I would go back in a heart beat!!!! Absolutely beautiful resort with 8 great restaurants for anything you're craving that day!

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Such a great resort

The resort was amazing! Didn't even have to do any excursions the resort had enough! Great people, food, disco. Only thing that could improve is the ocean (too much seaweed!) I will be going back that's for sure! Thanks

Cayo Levantado Resort: It was nice - but lots could be improved too

The hotel is lovely. Immaculate grounds and great staff. The buffet food was excellent, however the A La Carte food was poor. We couldn't even get an a la carte restaurant reservation until the 4th night of our stay - that's pretty shameful. When we did get into one of the restaurants, the ambience and service were both great but the food was not. Overdone beef and fish - no taste to it. VERY disappointing. We should not have had to pay for wine that was palatable - not when you're spending $6K on a 7 day vacation - yet we had to buy wine in order to have a nice drink. That increased the cost of the vacation and should not have been necessary. Even the Presidente beer was so watered down it had no taste. The rooms are nice, but the bathroom has no privacy - it has a large window looking into it from the bedroom. There needs to be a blind! The bed was as hard as a rock. I had sore hips every morning - and I like a firm bed - so it wasn't me..it was the bed. The free Wifi did not work most of the time. I ended up being stung with a large bill from my internet service provider for using 3G. That really should not be the case. It sounds like a lot of complaints - the resort is gorgeous but I would not say it is truly 5 star. Not when the food and beverage are substandard. We wish we'd not wasted the money. It was a pile and we were really disappointed.

Royalton Splash Punta Cana: Fabulous vacation

My 9 year old daughter and I stayed at the Memories Splash resort from March 26-31, 2017. We had a great time. The resort was nice and clean. We stayed in the "older" part which still suited us fine. Lots of good food - even a picky eater can enjoy. We loved the waterpark - wasn't many lines and always found a chair there and at the pools. The only thing I didn't like was having to go next door to the Royalton resort to use the beach. Found the vendors a little aggressive but just had to be firm.

Tropical Deluxe Princess: Colourful Resort

The resort was very Colourful , lots of swimming areas. The main eating area had a good variety of food. Love the Crepe place. The only dislike was the rain unfortunately we didn't get enough pool time or sun.

VIK Hotel Arena Blanca: Disappointed vacation

Pros- Small resort, all facilities were close, clean rooms. Cons- Very poor reception desk, we had to fight to get anything that we needed such as facecloth, rooms on ground level and rooms near our friends, no beer in bottles and no service for room fridge. We would have had employee at front desk fired if possible by the name of Gilberto , we had several very bad run in's with him and as a result will not return there and we will be telling other people to stay away, they forget that w [... read more]e are guests and spending hard earned money for a vacation and do not need unnecessary harassment from an asshole like him. Very disappointed with the quality of drinks and the beer was draft on tap everywhere , 3star at best. Poor tv almost all Spanish , only internet in lobby , poor snorkelling in front of resort and too many pushy sales people , !

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Wonderful Resort

The resort was lovely. Mature vegetation with beautiful orchids in numerous locations on the grounds. Pool was well maintained. Personnel was constantly cleaning & tiding up the resort. Many items of different foods to choose from. Love that the resort was not huge. The layout was well thought out. Had rain late in the afternoon a couple days but were able to walk to main building without getting wet. View of the mountains in the distance adds to its charm.
