The resort was well maintained, the staff were friendly and courteous always smiling! The food was very good with lots of choices. The ala carte restaurants were very good and although some people struggled with reservations we didn't have a problem and managed to get into every one some a few times! The entertainment was good in the evenings and plenty to do throughout the day. My only comment would be to have some signage about where the events are taking place. Would definitely come here [... read more]again!

Grand Sunset Princess: NOT A FIVE STAR
Hotel in general was ok, run down but they are working on it.The beach was absolutely terrible. Way over crowded, and stunk like sewage! Very small.
Employee's were friendly and helpful.
NEXUS GROUP WAS ABSOLUTELY INCOMPETENT! from the time we landed 930pm until we got to the resort 1:00am very unacceptable! I highly doubt I will use sunwing again.

Canto Del Sol: Very disappointing
Location is good, the view from the buffet restaurant was beautiful, but other than that, everything was disappointing.
The room in the villa section was very dated, faucet was rusty, bathtub was peeling off.
The first room we got was noisy all night from the huge fan on the front building. The room we moved was even older, blocked by parking building, but was quieter at least.
After moving, I found out that I left my clothes in the room. I checked the room with the staff, but the room wa[... read more]s already cleaned and it was gone. I reported to the reception again next morning as he instructed. After waiting a while, what the staff told me was just they found nothing. They did not explain anything whether they found and asked to the maid who cleaned the room. They were not really care about their guest and also the procedure for dealing with this issue was not sincere at all.
Food in the buffet restaurant was basic, but staff was friendly. Asian restaurant was the worst food I ever had. Appetizer was not properly cooked so there were raw flour in the fries, 'shrimp salad' was not shrimp but tough imitate crab. As soon as we tasted Pad Thai for main we had to get out. Cevicheria and the seafood restaurant was pretty good, though.
It was our 4th all inclusive trip to Mexico and 1st time that we are not satisfied.

Riu Latino: Best resort we’ve been to !
I was pleasantly surprised with how clean it was, all hallways, all bathrooms, the resort was cleaned and stocked at all times ! (Been to resorts in the past which bathrooms were trashed and not cleaned often enough or toilet paper ran out) never here at Riu Latino ! The staff had excellent customer service, and worked quick. Bar service was quick and I always felt acknowledged (again, was not always the case at other resorts I would sometimes be flat out ignored) at Riu Latino always served eve[... read more]rywhere you go. People wrote poor reviews about there not being a bar/ bathroom building on the Beach- though I do agree I wish there was a bathroom building on the beach as the walk to get back to the bathroom feels like a 3 minute walk, the lack of bar doesn’t matter really because there is constantly 1-2 servers going around the beach with a large tray of like 30 different drinks (margaritas, mojitos, bahama mama, pina colada, beer) and they come around like every 10 minutes offering variety of drinks. I would suggest better entertainment however in the Theater it was everyday just music/ dancing. Would be nice to see actual theater shows such as plays/ musicals- actual shows rather than just dancing every night. Food was good I always found lots of options to fill my plate with at the breakfast/lunch/dinner buffets The resort is small and once you make a loop of it it’s easy to remember where everything is and finding your way around is easy ! but it has everything you need (5 swimming pools, 24/hour sports bar, spa, theater, store, 5 restaurants etc) overall a great experience !
We visited this resort in Dec 2018 and enjoyed ourselves, so thought of returning and did so Dec 2025.The Reason for our return is the resort is not far from the Cancun airport, about a 1/2 hour drive and overall we had a positive experience.
Transfer: We flew with Air Transat and the transfer from airport to resort went smoothly aside from a couple of people that were "no shows" for the shuttle. So, the driver waited quite some time and finally decided to leave without them. The drive time [... read more]is very reasonable.
Check in: We arrived by noon and the check in went quickly. Check in time is 3:00 pm and therefore our room wasn't available until that time. The wristband provided is your key to the room. At this point, you can download the App so ala carte meals can be reserved. When reserving ala cartes, log on to the app before 10 AM and have your restaurant picked out; sometimes you may be able to get your reservation slightly before 10, but by 10 AM the app is active. I believe Privilege guests may have some "perks" with arranging ala cartes ahead of time...I don't know too much about that.
Room: Our room was a Daisy Junior Suite Garden View. This is basically on the family side. We were building 15000. We found the location easily accessible to everything. We were on the ground floor and I was happy to see that a proper working lock was on the patio door. Our room had a humidifier, which we turned on a few times and it filled with water quickly. The thermostat for some reason was a bit "wonky" as the first night the temperature dropped to 16 degrees when it was set at 22. We spoke to someone at the front desk in the morning and the thermostat issue was quickly resolved and staff brought an extra blanket that morning. We were typically out of the room by 8 AM and our room was cleaned by 10 AM. So, a very positive review on service.
Loungers/Towels: We had no issues getting a lounger, even by 8 AM and there would still be quite a few left. We did not reserve our spot for hours on end without showing up, although there are guests that do this. Typically, we only left our towel while we went for a bite to eat and come back. I did not see any signage stating that reserving lounges wasn't allowed, but it's common sense to be respectful of other guests. However, there was signage stating that smoking/vaping is not permitted. Generally, guests would either smoke at the beach, outside of the front lobby or somewhere more secluded. There are no towel cards, you simply provide your room number when getting a towel and return it by 4:30 PM and if you want a fresh one for the next day. There are 2 shacks to pick up towels between the pools and beach.
Pool/Beach: There are 4 pools. There's a kids pirate theme pool that offers a snack bar, bar and kiddy lounge chairs. There's a family pool that is central to bar/restaurants and caters to kids and family; shallow with a deeper end. This area tends to be quieter. Then there's the activity pool, which is geared for fun activity, a foam party, swim up bar and it does tend to be louder with music playing. In the El Beso Adult section, there's an adult pool. No children allowed to my knowledge. The pools I believe are not chlorinated, but salt and are very clean. Some spots are showing their age and small tiles are missing. The beach was cleaned regularly with only a little sargassum washing up to shore.
Grounds: The grounds are impeccably maintained. Maintenance crews are out cutting grass, pruning shrubs and cutting down palm leaves/coconuts, picking up garbage, sweeping the grounds around the pool. Bar staff are always picking up empty cups. That said, bar staff do come around for drink orders. There's plenty of wildlife, coatis, iguanas, agoutis, raccoons, lizards, and off behind the buildings there's a fenced area with crocodiles. Plenty of pelicans flying overhead.
Restaurants/Bars/Service: There are several restaurants, however, we only went to a few. I want to stress that IMO, the service in the restaurants we visited was fantastic. The Buffet offers a nice variety of food, but sometimes "hit and miss" depending on your likes and dislikes. One night the roast beef was amazing with the mashed potatoes, etc. and another night the roast beef was really tough. Route 66 is great for a fast food dinner, but again "hit and miss" on meat. We went to the Italian restaurant Ritratto d'Italia 3 times, and each time were pleasantly surprised. Some reviewers have mentioned that the staff is pushy with the wine list, but we didn't find this. We just ordered the house wine. There is also the Blue Moon, Sensai (Japanese), Villa Marina and another Italian (outdoor) restaurant. There's another restaurant for Privilege guests (signage stated only for 14+ and adults). There are bars close to everything and they all offer good service and drinks. The Lobby Bar makes a very decent Caesar. Near the family pool there's the Fresca Bar which offers refreshing smoothies and next to it is an Ice Cream Parlour which is open from 3 PM to 9 PM.
Entertainment: The entertainment stage is outdoors. Pre COVID there was a theatre building. As we're not really "nighthawks", we only saw 3 shows all of which were very professionally done. There was no "pre kids show" with musical chairs, fine by me. The Michael Jackson show, which I thought I'd seen a lifetime of, was very well done. The one thing that we missed was the Lobby Lounge entertainment. They used to have someone playing the baby grand piano with someone singing along. Now the piano sits in the middle of the lobby with no one ever playing it, such a waste. On our last evening, there was a group of school children singing Christmas songs and entertainers dancing. The lobby was beautifully decorated for the season as well.
In conclusion, I'd recommend this resort to solos, couples or families. It's a solid value for your money kind of resort.

Barcelo Maya Beach Resort: Beautiful but sometimes loud
This place is huge! More than a half hour walk from side to side! The grounds are meticulously kept and its all very beautiful! The whole resort is very clean. The first couple days there was some sort of music festival nearby so you heard loud club music pounding from noon to 10pm. During this time the buffets were mad houses with people crashing into each other. One night there was a party with music so loud it rattled thr coffee mugs in my room from several hotels away. It went till. Almost 3[... read more] am! Was not happy with this at all and I overheard alot of people at the front desk complaining about it. The ocean beach is beautiful but the water is murky and full of rocks and boulders.

Posada Real Ixtapa: Great pool and awesome staff
Stayed for 7 days, beds were very hard, food was repetitive/boring. This resort is very noisy there is a bar next door that plays music till 2 in the morning, the balcony doors do little to keep the noise out. Pool deck is very slippery, we saw a few people fall, they could use more nonslip mats.
The staff was friendly and the pool on the beach was beautiful!

Decameron Los Cocos Guayabitos Ramada: Pickleball crazy
Decameron Los cocos is 1.5-2 hrs north of puerto Vallarta airport. A very good free tour of country side and towns along the way. Hotel is submerged in Guayabitos on west side. Meals are very good clean rooms and just the rooster calling at 0530 to tell us it is time to go pickleball. We pack a coffee thermos , a covered drinking cup and a large water bottle , get filled at bars or restaurants. No garbage from us made. On the weekends the town comes alive Mexican style with hundreds of national[... read more]s vacationing on the coast We sailed two times , kayaked twice and walked the 4 km beach numerous times in between throwing a frisbee. There is no sunrise or set at the cocos hotel. The best is the stay and play at three sister hotels. Alacarts varied throughout the week. The use of washrooms bars and restaurants at all three a very big bonus.
Our day started at 0430 , dressed and coffee on board with a breakfast grabbed from buffet the day before. 40 min walk to east side of Guayabitos where a pickleball club is playing at 0630. Very reasonable rates very welcoming.
To the hotel. Build a trough at beach to stop sand from tracking everywhere 16 x 4 in deep x12 feet long save water Move bar in snack bar to east wall , feed beach people at side bar stop sand from tracking everywhere.
I saw too many windows open drapes open and air conditioner running very wasteful of power The staff are beautiful hard working and very friendly. Loved our stay.

Barcelo Maya Riviera: Wonderful resort
My husband and I enjoyed this hotel a great deal. Everything was great. The rooms were large and lavish. The food was delicious. We especially enjoyed the Tapanyaki dinner at the Japanese restaurant. Beach and pool area were beautiful
The resort is decent. A little dated. Food was pretty good with some obvious efforts to provide decent meals. The biggest issue was noise: 4:30 am on our first night we were awakened by the sound of power washing of the pool deck and the dragging of chairs across the deck. Our third night was worse as at 3:45 am we were awakened this time by the sound of some sort of machinery in the hallway. I went out to see a staff member using an industrial floor polisher… banging against the elevator door[... read more]s and walls. I spoke with the front desk and the advised that maintenance had to be done during the evening. There is absolutely no logic or reasoning that could justify there actions. The next day I asked to speak to a manager about the issue and was advised the manager would contact me. Nobody ever contacted us regarding our issues. This is totally unacceptable.

Melia Puerto Vallarta: An OK resort not a 4.5 star
The hotel grounds were lovely, room comfortable, very clean. What brought the rating down in my estimation was the food. Very little variety and not great quality. The restaurants were a disappointment. We have been to Mexico several times and this was by far the most disappointing when it came to food.

Riu Palace Peninsula: Perfect Vacation
The hotel staff were very welcoming. They were always available to make sure we were getting the most out of our trip. This resort has a great selection of restaurants, along with a fantastic buffet area. We came with a large group and there was plenty of room at the beach or around the pool. This trip had a great balance of rest and relaxation along with some fun parties. Whatever you are looking for I think you will find at this resort.

Ocean Maya Royale: Disappointed with all except the staff; photos aren’t realistic, and Privilege apparently doesn’t always apply
Unfortunately what I experienced is not what the photos in the ads displayed. I had a ‘large’ leak in my ‘Privelege’ room which required 2 large bath towels in the middle of the night to deal with and 2 calls to my butler as the front desk did not answer the phone. It’s not a difficult repair - I moved into a 70 year old home that required major renovations - they just need to be done properly the first time.
After the 2nd text to my butler, large paint chips on the floor & ceiling, and multipl[... read more]e emptying of the dehumidifier in the room I asked to be moved - they were accommodating.
I would never make comments like this without photos for proof, of the room, the commentary with my butler and the difference between the actual Privilege area versus what can be seen in advertising photos.
I was also disappointed when I went to the Japanese restaurant, advertised as ‘A la Carte’ but not given the option to order from the menu - as a solo guest - or sit with a crowd of strangers and watch a show I hadn’t intended to see. I was not informed before ordering a Sapporo that there was a charge (surprising as it is a Premium beer and Privilege guests are supposed to be entitled to Premium drinks) and guests should ALWAYS be told prior to ordering if there is an extra charge, when they are not given the courtesy of seeing a menu.
What was supposed to be a special trip turned out to be disappointing and a lot of false advertising.
This was definitely not a 5 star hotel or I would not have been sitting on plastic chairs for my ‘special dinner’.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Fantastic service!
Very nice pools and all the staff in the bars and restaurants were friendly and great to talk to. The room we had was showing its age, for sure. We got sick at the end, possibly from the clogged filter in the air conditioning, maybe there was mould in there? The Black & White bar and the Swing Bar were lots of fun, and the nighttime shows were very good. The food in the main restaurant was pretty good - we were impressed, as there was quite a variety over the time we were there. The Special [... read more]restaurants were also good. As with most All-Inclusive places, there was a shortage of chairs at the pools, and no one followed the "do not reserve chairs" rule. They eventually brought out a few more chairs.
