Costa Club Punta Arena: Excellent location
Pool areas were excellent. Rooms were set up nicely. Beds could use an upgrade. Meals and service were top notch.
Our only complaint was the jack hammering that went on from 9:00am until 7:00 pm at the adjacent property. Even loud pool music could not completely drown it out!

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Very Relaxing Place to Stay
We stayed at the Royal Decameron Complex in Bucerias from Feb 3 to 14, 2018. We had been to the area once before but never stayed here. I must admit that the resort is much larger than I thought. I would rank this hotel as a solid 3.5 star.
In my opinion, the positive things about this resort:
The Staff: everyone is extremely pleasant, helpful, and works very hard. From the ladies who clean the rooms, to the bar tenders, to the front desk and guest relations, they are all very kind,[... read more] patient and go above and beyond. Most of the staff speak some English, and try very hard to make communication easy.
The Layout and Grounds: The resort is spread out, yet easy to get around (once you get your bearings - much easier to do in the daylight). It appears that every room has a terrace or balcony, which looks onto lovely manicured grounds and each building has it's own pool, restaurant and bar. There are 2 towel stations, 2 main buffets and 6 a la carte restaurants. If you want quiet, the adult only pool in Block 5 is wonderful. The people respect the rules of quiet, no loud music or pool games allowed, just lounging, floating, reading, sipping a drink and visiting with neighbors. It was heaven. If you want the entertainment, games and kids pools, those are available as well.
The areas that I think could use improvement:
Rooms: They are in need of some updating, especially the air conditioning units, which tend to be quite loud. Although the rooms are very clean, there is no fridge/mini-bar, which was a disappointment for us. You get one warm bottle of water each day. This can be overcome by walking a couple of blocks to the Chedraui store and buy a cheap styrofoam cooler. The bar tenders are happy to provide you with ice for your cooler, just bring your own bag. There is also a shortage of hot water, especially in the later afternoons, and even at non-peak hours the pressure was low and the hot water was hit and miss. The beds are also very hard, again, only my opinion. The charge for an in-room safe is also an extra charge - for us it was over 400 pesos for 10 days. In my opinion, that should be an included charge, but I also acknowledge that this seems to be a Decameron policy across the board.
Check-In Process: We have been at over 15 resorts in Mexico, Caribbean, Cuba and DR. I don't think I have ever been sent to find my own room, in the dark. I asked if someone could show us our room, and were told the bus boy would, and then we were told that he would just meet us there. Given that our block was across the street and about 2 blocks away, we were pretty frustrated, having to stop people on the street and in the bars to find our room. However, the check-out process was easy, quick and painless.
The Food: We tried all but one of the a la carte's (did not try the Mexican) and there was not one that stood out as better than any of the others, but they were better than the buffet foods. I am commenting on the food at dinner only, as we found the breakfast and lunch buffets were quite good, especially in the Block 5 restaurant. We found the food at the dinner buffets to be lacking in flavour and choice. In fact, one night we went to the largest buffet because of a long line up at the smaller one. We found out why - there was so very little selection, and what was there was not good. We ended up eating bread and salad. The last night of our vacation we were at the buffet and I ended up with what I believe to be food poisoning, being up sick all night before having to fly home.
The beach here is average, but colder than some of the more southern locations in Mexico. The waves were bigger than I like while we were there, so we kept to the pools, which is a first for us. We are beach people, but we found it to be less ideal for our liking. There are a lot of vendors on the beach, but they are not pushy, and very polite.
The town and market at Bucerias are an easy walk down the beach or down the lateral, where you will find a ton of little shops and restaurants. I would recommend at least one stroll down the first street. If you are looking for tours off of the resort, I would recommend JD Tours, which is about 4 blocks from the resort, an easy stroll.
If you are looking for a party resort with a lot of young single folks, this is not your place. It was great for us because we aren't into the loud party scene and late night entertainment. If you are not picky about food, but enjoy a quiet space with a lot of very friendly returning guests, you will enjoy this resort.

Royalton Hideaway Riviera Cancun: Second time here!
We brought my sister and her hubby with us for our second trip here as we loved our first time sooo much! This time was still great but the attention to detail in terms of butler service wasn't as goos as our first time. I think they must have had a new person training in the diamond club reception because his answer to everything was YES! but unless we asked our butler directly it didnt happen. Our butler was very hard to get a hold of this time. We only saw him 3 times in 8 days not for lack [... read more]of trying.
There was far too much manager presents making their service in the restaurants inconsistent....ie. one night a manager sent my hubby and sister's hubby back to change out of their sandals then the hostess let the next guy in with the same sandals and i called her on it and she said thwy were dress sandals and were okay! I'm not sure when reef sandals became dress sandals but apparently they are for some men and not others.....i was super frustrated with those inconsistencies. Also....there was a big and small tractor on the diamond club beach side for 5 of our 7 beach days all morning and into the afternoon removing seaweed. We couldn't even hear the ocean or converse with each other. It's still a gorgeous resort with exceptional service but it wasnt the same the second time around and i would not spend $6000 again for the room we got this time that also wasn't what we requested. My sister got the right room but we just got what was left which was definately a big disappointment to myself. Our butler did fix it and even upgraded us on our last 2 nights to a beautiful room. He really tried but i think he was over worked and his messages weren't being passed onto us. I'd go back again but not diamond club or even hideaway....there was no real benefit this time. The sercixe has changed too much and i think its because the bean counters have scaled back on the luxury we experienced the first time.

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Enjoyable
I thought the place overall was a little worn. The room we had lacked the view of the ocean, a nice bathroom, and a few things that could of made our trip more enjoyable. ie: a fridge we requested and never received. The place had some nice el e carte restaurants, we especially enjoyed the Italian restaurant. Some of the entertainment, we took in was good.

Grand Riviera Princess: Fantastic resort
Friendly staff, clean grounds and amazing food. We did not take part in all the activities but a whole variety of things were available everyday. I would recommend the spa services. The massages on the beach are sooo relaxing and are performed by registered therapists who provide receipts for insurance purposes.
I Wouldn't change a thing. Our stay was perfect.

Grand Sirenis Matlali Hills: Grand Sirenis Taplali Hills Resort -Quiet relaxing resort
We are a couple in our early and mid eighties who just returned from a three week all inclusive vacation at the Grand Sirenis Resort in Nayarit, Mexico. This is a resort, in a hilly jungle setting with a ten minute shuttle ride to the beach. In general the pluses are 4-5 but, depending on one's interests, does have some negatives. The resort has some steep inclines, and a somewhat difficult hike from the rooms to the restaurants. However, shuttle service within the complex is excellent, never m[... read more]ore than five minutes, and most of the time right there when you need it. In spite of our age, we preferred to walk, even if a shuttle offered a ride. We enjoy walking and even took the guided scenic mountain hike. It was great.
The rooms are spacious, modern, clean and offer a beautiful view of the valley and the ocean beyond. Concierge and serving staff were excellent, professional, courteous and prompt. We frequented the pool and large hot tub adjacent to our block and were always able to find poolside lounges. The supply of towels was ample and poolside service was excellent. A major plus was the easy listening background music rather than the blaring music common to most resorts. Lounges could use padding.
The resort has four an la carte restaurants and a buffet on site. We would rate the a la carte restaurants as mediocre, although okay for a change. The buffet is excellent with a wide choice of meats and fish freshly grilled to your preference with a sufficient variety of accompaniments. Serving staff is commendable.
Beach shuttle is every half hour. The beach is nice for lounging but not conducive to long beach walks. Supply of lounges is more than adequate and service is excellent, but the washrooms need an upgrade.
Day activities at the main resort are somewhat limited and night entertainment begins at nine. We prefer a good book, scrabble of a movie as our late night activity. One major night time complaint is the bright lights embedded in the stairs around the buffet, the main pool and the pool bar that shine directly into your eyes making it difficult to clearly see the steps. This is treacherous.
The Grand Sirenis is a new, relatively small, quiet resort, ideal for a relaxing vacation. If you prefer loud music, hustle bustle of crowds, a lot of planned activities, etc. this is not the resort for you.

Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta: Beautiful resort
This was my first time as an all inclusive and I was pleasantly surprised by how beautiful this resort was. Our first impression was the beautiful ocean view from our balcony. We had chosen to upgrade to the 8th floor where we had access to a happy hour bar from 5-8 and usually 2-3 hot appetizers along with fresh made tortilla chips, salsa and quacamole. Our barman, Cesar, always had a smile and remembered our favourite drinks. The upgrade also gave us verandah seating at the breakfast buffe[... read more]t as well as free admission to the adult infinity pool (normally $16/day) The food overall was excellent! Great restaurants and buffet grills, sometimes with fresh mahi mahi, tuna, salmon and prime rib. The resort is laid out really well, everything fairly close together but not cramped. The staff were always very friendly especially Juan Carlos at the adult pool and Rafael at the main pool - always smiling and ready to serve. One thing we would have liked to see was more live shows/entertainment at night. The first night we arrived, there was a fabulous band who had everyone up dancing unfortunately they were only there once and the other live entertainment was more of a Caribbean band with dancers which were just ok in my opinion - otherwise bingo, trivia and a Mexican night which was entertaining. Overall this was great resort and would definitely go back.

Iberostar Selection Playa Mita: Great Resort
This was a great resort with lots of fun activities. The activity staff around the pool were so much fun. The pool was very nice. Lounge chairs were situated in between a flowering bush hedge. Beautiful. The room was nice but the bathroom was small. All staff were excellent. We had a ocean front room which we really enjoyed. All rooms were very nice as my family each had the other two room categories. The negative to this resort in my opinion and my husbands, was the food was only average.

Sunscape Cancun Resort and Spa: Very Nice Resort
The resort is clean and fairly easy to get around. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We had a really nice room down by the beach with a slight view of the ocean. It was a good size, clean and the location was very central to all amenities. The Mexican Restaurant has excellent food and for the buffet Ventanna is very good. The Italian Restaurant wasn't such a good experience. Very slow and not the best food. There wasn't much for night life. There were only a couple of performances during [... read more]our 9 night stay and they were pretty good, but for the most part everything ended by 10:30. A disco, or a place to dance would be nice. The wind was very strong there and swimming in the ocean wasn't really possible. The waves were very strong and high, so for the most part you could fight to go in the water and deal with the waves for a short time, but you wouldn't want to stay in too long. There were activities at the pool regularly, like water polo, water volleyball and aqua aerobics...

Las Brisas Huatulco: Frist time to Hautulco
This was our first time and definitely will not be our last to Hautulco. The weather was perfect everyday, snorkeling right out front the beach is amazing. Las Brisas was perfect for us. We love the ocean and we could go in and swim or snorkel with no concern. There is lots of stairs and walking to get to your room. Shuttle is available if you want and very convenient. Staff is friendly but English is definitely not their first language. Sometimes was hard to translate so brush up on your Spanis[... read more]h. Food was good, always something to eat. Only draw back if you are an early riser nothing opens till 7am. Restaurants open and close at different times, not 24/7 food available or drinks. Bars do not open till 11 am which is late in my opinion and close at 5 pm at the beach area. Rooms are OK nothing fancy but clean. We stayed in a deluxe room which is downstairs on the lower level and it felt dark to me. I would strongly recommend a upper floor room. No balconies or terrace on ocean view, just vegetation. In all was one of the best vacations for sand, sun, beach and ocean. Absolutely loved it.

Hotel was excellent. Clean, luxurious, everything you want in an all-inclusive. Food was great, particularly at the a-la-carte restaurants.
Staff were exceedingly friendly and courteous.
This was our first all inclusive as a couple, and we were very happy with how it all turned out.
