Allegro Cozumel: Very nice

Wonderful...hotel very clean, staff very attentive and truly very happy with everything. Perhaps more Mexican food but all in all we would go back tomorrow. The sand on the beach was warm and soft, the water a beautiful coral and nice and warm

Sandos Finisterra Los Cabos: NICE!

We were really pleased with this resort. Our room was lovely and generous (though a reading light would have been appreciated). We had a great view of the marina from our morning coffee stop and our balcony looked over the pools, beach and ocean - how good does it get? While the buffet was a bit minimal and not exciting there were adequate choices for even the fussiest. The house wine was ho-hum - back to that fussiest comment. The activity staff was energetic and fun - they worked really hard to include you. Would we do it again? Yes. Will we recommend it? Beloved Playa Mujeres by Excellence: Awesome Resort!

Beloved Playa Mujeres is truly an amazing place. The service, our room (a casita with private pool), and restaurants were beyond incredible. The staff were most amazing - super people. A fantastic vacation!

Villa del Palmar Beach Resort: Good resort. Good location

This was a pretty decent, middle of the road resort. Food was fair to good with four restaurants to choose from and all but one were easy to get into. Rooms were comfortable and the AC worked. Tvs were really small. They never stopped trying to pedal the time share deals.

JOIA Paraiso by Iberostar: Superb hotel with exemplary staff and service

This is our 4th stay at the Iberostar Grand Paraiso and it never fails to live up to its reputation. The hotel buildings are magnificent and kept meticulously clean and repainted frequently. In the main the a la carte restaurants are excellent but it isn't always easy to reserve a table even a week in advance. Beach and beach service are excellent and quiet. If you want entertainment the pool is the place for you. Entertainment at night is professional both in the lobby bar and the theatre.  [... read more] We'll be returning next year.

Grand Sirenis Matlali Hills: Definately not a 4 STAR - WE made the best of it.

27 Jan - 07 Feb 2018 We will start with the good (short list). Landscape is very good, very scenic and for the most part, very well kept. Bartenders at the lower pool bar are awesome (Francisco and Jose). Stayed in room 4184 on the way up the hill. Room requires a lot of attention, the floor was stained and in disrepair. Could not take a proper shower for the first 4 days as the water was scalding hot, took maintenence 4 times to get it properly fixed. Had to call daily to try and get fac [... read more]e clothes, coffee and hand towels and even then it was hit and miss. Service at the upper bar was very slow in the pool area. The last few days, the upper pool water was murky and they were constantly testing and adding chemicals (not feeling very good about that at all). Could not get resturant reservations for A LA CARTE until 8:30 or 9;00 at night as it seems the members have first choice and take the earlier times. Then you would notice that there was hardly anyone in the resturant and you cannot get in without a reservation. Food was hit and miss at the resturants, you must really like salt as there seems to be an abundance used with their cooking. Buffet was alright, but you may have kids at the next table. The shuttles at night, you could be waiting up to 35 minutes. We asked to speak to someone in charge 3 times, especially concerning the room and housekeeping issues, IT DID NOT HAPPEN. They do not carry any good ryes at all as most 4 and 5 star resorts would carry at least one good rye. Beach service was terrible, both on the beach and at the bar. We ordered food, the wife's food took about 15 mintutes, mine took 1.5 hours and did not get dessert at all. I could keep going on, but it would take all day. We still made a good time out of it, but would never return.

JOIA Paraiso by Iberostar: Excellant Adults Only Resort

Everything about this resort is 5 star This was our seventh visit to the Grand Paraiso and nothing disappointed On our arrivel we are introduced to our butler who already knew our likes and dislikes from previous trips and ahd eqipped our room accordingly The food is top notch regardless of the restaurants or buffet

Occidental Costa Cancun: Stay at Occidental Costa Cancun

Just stayed at the Occidental Costa Cancun, and had a good time. It’s a very small resort, the rooms, pool, restaurants, and beach are all in a small area. The pool was nice, lots of chairs available. The food was so-so, nothing special there. You could only make reservations for a la carts in the mornings, getting into the Italian was a pain, with a huge line-up at 7am to get in for dinner. The beach was nice, if small, with lots of water traffic in front of the resort and a small area where  [... read more]swimming was allowed. No snorkelling at the resort. The ferry over to Isla Mujeres was right at the resort, as well as the Jolly Roger pirate ship excursion which was convenient. Lots of seaweed on the beach, even though they rake it every morning there was always seaweed at the water line. No free wifi, you have to pay to use it and it’s not good at all, always cutting in and out and the prices for everything seem to change day to day. The rooms were okay, clean but nothing special. The air conditioning in my room was turned off when I got there, didn’t have it for a few days until I called. When they actually turned it on it was leaking but worked. Daily shows by the pool and always entertainment at night. Wouldn’t go back but didn’t have a horrible time. Still enjoyed the sunshine and relaxation at the beach or pool.

Decameron Los Cocos Guayabitos Ramada: Great holiday

This is an update of a review I wrote a year ago. We are just back from three weeks at Los Cocos, for my third visit and my wife’s second and we will go back, hopefully for longer next time. This is an older hotel in five buildings. Road construction has been completed, but it was still over an hour from the airport. The guests are either older Canadians or Mexican extended families. Building 1, 2 and 5 (newly constructed) are on the beach, 3 is across the road (but has larger rooms) and 4 is up the hill and has the superior rooms. Check in and check out were quick and easy. The wifi is considerably better than last year. It is free, and available in the lobbies of buildings 1 and 4 at least, and works around the pool in building 1 as far as La Iguana bar. The main buffet restaurant is excellent. There is good variety and food is generally tasty. Fish and pork are always available and usually chicken. Beef is sometimes on the menu, but is sometimes tougher than we are used to in Canada. There is always some Mexican food, which we found usually to be the best choice. The food is warm but rarely hot. The coffee is much better than last year and is available from early morning until mid evening. The second restaurant has reopened for breakfast and dinner most days of the week, and the snack bar has a limited selection from late morning until around 5:00 including burgers and fries. The menu at the second restaurant is more limited than at the main buffet, consisting of mainly Mexican food. Very nice empanadas some evenings and always freshly done taco fixings. I ate dinner at the à la carte restaurant once and it was a very nice meal, although perhaps not worth getting up early enough to reserve as the food in the buffets is always good. It is a bit of a climb (about 30 stairs) up from the lobby. The lunch buffet there is more limited than at the main buffet, but I thought the food a bit better. Soups were always good. The latest the restaurants are open is 10:30 at night, but from 7:30 in the morning until then, food is always available. There are three bars, open from 10:00 a.m. on. The main one is La Iguana which is across from the buffet along the beach. Los Pelicanos is also on the beach but quieter. There is another at Cocos 4 which we stopped at on the way to lunch at the upper restaurant and I never saw anyone sitting there. The disco serves drinks after the other bars close until 3:00 a.m. The beer on tap is Modelo (Clara and Negra) but they also have Corona in bottles and the rum is Bacardi. My wife tried five types of tequila and there may be others she didn’t. There is a selection of other liquors. The beach has a constant flow of walkers and vendors. It is about 30 minutes to walk to the far end where a stream bed divides Rincon de Guayabitos from La Penita. The beach is fronted by restaurants, trailer parks and hotels. Few of the hotels are higher than four stories and most seem to host Canadian seniors in large numbers. Lots of beach vendors sell everything from food (shrimp, fish, ceviche, nuts, candies) to inflatable beach toys, clothing and handicrafts. Pretty much anything can be bought on the beach, although probably at a higher cost than at one of the many shops in town. Pesos are preferred, but Canadian or U.S. dollars can be used. Canadian dollars can be exchanged at the hotel but at a poor rate. There are at least four ATMs within a ten minute walk, but the service charge is 109 pesos according to someone we spoke to, so best to bring pesos from home, or at least make your withdrawals in larger amounts. There is a market in town on Mondays in the main plaza which is worth a visit. Lots of things for sale, from coffee (ground and beans) to leatherwork, tee shirts, table cloths and much more. There is a larger market in the next town on Thursdays (La Peñita). Beach loungers at the hotel are adequate in number but a bit uncomfortable. Some people bring or buy plastic air mattresses to put on them. I paid 120 pesos for mine on the beach and it made sitting much more comfortable. New this year is an adequate number of plastic chairs on the beach. The loungers around the new pool at Cocos 5 are a different style and more comfortable. This year we did go to the beach club once. It is a ten minute bus ride away in the next town. The bus (free) leaves at 10:00 and returns at 4:00, but if you want to go late or leave early you can hire a taxi. There is a sign up sheet for the beach club and if not enough people sign up, it is closed. We didn’t sign up, but just showed up for the bus and had no problems. The buffet lunch at the beach club was small, but the food was excellent, probably the best we had at Los Cocos. The bar selection was more limited, with no draft beer, only Corona, which wasn’t really cold. The beach at the beach club is smaller and the ocean gets deeper closer to shore, so better if you are a competent swimmer that at the hotel where some wading is required to get to a depth suitable from swimming. There are four small pools. All are unheated and shallow (1.5 metres/4.79 feet at the deep end). The ocean is warmer but sometimes rough. The pools are in the centre of the buildings are not sunny all day. A swim in the pools is brisk. The staff was routinely friendly, seemed happy to be doing what they were doing and are hard-working. Someone was always cleaning or painting. Evidently, everyone takes pride in the place. If you are looking for a five-star hotel with lots of amenities, or a hotel with exciting night-life for young people, this is not it. Best for older couples or those just looking for a quiet time away. For us, it was a great place for a holiday.

Tesoro Los Cabos: Loved our stay at Tesoro Los Cabos

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the Tesoro Los Cabos for the 1st week of February 2018. We were very happy with our decision to stay here. From check in to check out our experience was a positive one. Rafael, the front desk manager, was very helpful and patient in letting us view a few rooms before deciding on his original choice. We booked a Junior Suite which had a marina view with a balcony. The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable, with an amazing view. The beds were co [... read more]mfortable, the AC worked well and the shower was great with endless hot water. We read complaints about the long walk from some rooms to the pool area. While this is true it isn't that bad. The hotel is spread out along the marina to provide more marina view rooms so a long walk is inevitable if you are located at the farther ends of the hotel. We were at the far end of the hotel and we would choose the same room if we were to go back. The location of the Tesoro is amazing with the marina right out front and in town with dozens of restaurants and bars a close walk out the back doors. If you like to be close to the action and great food options then this is the place to stay. If you want to have easy access to the beach then you might be a little disappointed. The beach is about a 15 to 20 minute walk along the marina or through town and another 15 minute walk down the beach to some of the beach bars. You can also take a water taxi right out the front of the Tesoro for $5 US per person one way. We had a breakfast plan at the Tesoro and it was wonderful. There was an omelet bar with plenty of options for fillings. You could also choose between pastries, french toast, pancakes, fresh fruits, juices and cereals. The service was very good and it was a great way to start the day. We only ate dinner at the onsite restaurants once and it was okay but nothing thrilling. The best part of the Tesoro location is the easy walking access to dozens of fantastic restaurants. Everything from small taco shops (Tacos Guss), larger Mexican establishments, great seafood (El Pescador), Italian cuisine (Il Forno) and many other options. If you are the nervous type you will be happy to know that the security at the Tesoro was amazing. While there was plenty of security on site and along the marina you never felt intimidated or uncomfortable. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating while keeping a close eye on everything. We had a great time in the pool area. The pool is very nice with 2 hot tubs and a swim up pool bar and a restaurant. They provide towels in the pool area which is nice and there was plenty of seating and loungers. The young man who served us everyday was so polite and hard working. He was amazing. Our only complaint was the music didn't have to be so loud but it wasn't a big deal. All in all the pool area was great. If you love to try different restaurants every day, go to bars in the afternoon and evenings, walk around town with hundreds of shops and mingle with tourists and locals then the Tesoro is perfect for your stay. Transat - Upon return to Calgary, no one there to push wheelchair to baggage carousel. Club car baggage came LAST not first. On Plane, Pushing button for stewardess completely ignored. Decameron - Did not get requested room from 5301 to 5306. Had much trouble accessing pool steps.Was promised a room change - never happened. Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas: Everything and more

We were very impressed with the resort. The beach wasn’t as desirable as others we’ve been at and not being able to swim in the ocean was the only down side. The rooms were very clean as well as the public areas. Someone was always cleaning. The food and the staff were fantastic. No reservations were required for the a la cartes so we went to one every night and were not disappointed. We will definitely recommend this resort!!

Akumal Bay Beach and Spa Resort: Akumal Bay = Amazing

This resort is beautiful and in excellent condition. Whether you eat at the Buffet or à la carte restaurant you will be satisfied with excellent food. The beach is great with soft sand and the water so clear that you can easily see different species of fish without snorkeling or you can simply go for very long walks on the beach and enjoy the view. The rooms are great and clean but the weather so fantastic that you won't spend much time in the room. Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Great Resort for a wonderful vacation

Was a little hesitant to stay with all the mixed reviews; however our stay was wonderful! We ended up in block 6( away from the beach) had a pool and a snack shack there, so it was quite (mostly). Large rooms, good beds, great patios, large bathrooms with huge showers. Grounds were well maintained, the staff was friendly and attentive. The unlimited a-la-carts was a nice bonus the food was good, the drinks were just as good. Spent many evenings at the swing bar on the beach (our favourite  [... read more]spot) Now the negative: Yes there is some maintenance needed on the pools as tiles are missing, and perhaps a little more attention to morning skimming. At the beach bar they don’t wash the glasses, but rather they are soaked (in what I am not sure) and you are never given a straw at this side of the resort (I get why but gross!!) Events on the beach are not alway posted if you have a pool day you don’t know what’s going on... Beach is not private so beware of venders

Royal Solaris: Decent Hotel for San Jose

Everything was acceptable. Probably a 4 star rating. Rooms were clean. Grounds, pool, and beach were nice. Restaurant and hotel staff were all helpful and reasonably efficient. Good variety of food at all the buffets.

Platinum Yucatan Princess: Beautiful resort ...

Staff were so friendly and accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms and resort so clean and beautifully maintained. Food delicious. Buffet offered so much variety and food was nicely presented. A la Carte restaurants impeccable.

NYX Hotel Cancun: Quiet place, great food and good value in Cancun.

We went to NYX Cancun in February 2018 for our honeymoon. It is a short ride from the airport. Around 25 minutes depending on the stops. Beach/Pools: The beach was amazing. Not too many vendors. Beautiful white beach sand. There were red flags, but with a life guard on duty we swam in the ocean anyway. 2 mid-sized pools, and a small children's pool. The main pool was nice, but you get crowded out during some of the daily activities. The quiet pool gets very little sun. One main Ja [... read more]cuzzi with two runoff tubs. Wasn't too hot though, and sometimes you would have to wait for an employee to turn the jets on. *If you are staying in Tower 1, like we were, you have to go through the hotel lobby in order to make it to pools or the beach. Service: The bartender we had the first few days was not very responsive. We had trouble getting a hold of the front desk with the room phoneline. Most of the waiters were friendly. Food: The food was excellent. Breakfast Buffet in the main building every morning. Lunch was from a set menu with a daily special. You had to be dressed with more than a swimsuit to eat in the restaurant. But you could order food delivered to the beach. Supper was at the same beach restaurant, with a set menu accompanied by a buffet. Groups of 3 or more might have a long wait to get a table. Food is only available during set hours. Also a onsite gourmet restaurant, that was incredible. But you have to reserve, meet a dress-code, and can only go once a week. Rooms: We had a huge room on the 5th floor. We had a master suite with a small balcony. A king-sized bed. Nice and clean and newly renovated. A bit dusty due to the renovations. *There was no working elevator (under construction) in tower 1 and being on the 5th floor, that was quite a trek up! The shower was humongous. But the street noise was very loud, earplugs are recommended if you are in tower 1. Value: Good value for the price. We had a couples massage at the onsite spa. It was very enjoyable. Other than a small band in the lobby on Thurs-Sun there is no nightly entertainment. Location: Centered on the hotel zone strip. Right next to the Flamingo Mall. An hour and a half from most excursions. Short ride to the airport.

Grand Decameron Complex Bucerias Trademark: Smoker’s Paradise!

There are NO non-smoking areas around the pools!! And staff INSIST on placing ashtrays at every umbrella! (That’s at approximately every 2-3 loungers)! VERY unpleasant being forced to breathe secondhand smoke when lying by the pool. And even though there are “No smoking” signs at the bar areas, people light up inside, and the managers and staff won’t do anything about it, even though we complained- several times. Thankfully I didn’t notice anyone smoking where food was served. I doub [... read more]t we’ll go back unless they do something about the smoking, eg at the very least they could remove the ashtrays from one side of the pool area. We would not recommend this resort to non-smokers. Even though my overall rating was good, the secondhand smoke issue downgraded the overall rating to “poor”. The resort is in a great area, restaurant staff were great, rooms were very clean, some shows were awesome, but unfortunately the cigarette smoking was a really unpleasant distraction.

Temptation Resort & Spa: Let’s Play!

Amazing resort! Top notch service by all staff. The Play Makers entertainment staff kept things hoping at the sexy pool while the bartenders kept the drinks flowing. Nightly entertainment was never to be missed. Every night was a different theme be it Heaven and Hell, Bedtime Bash or White Night. Definitely erotic! Resort beach and sexy pool are topless optional. Age of guests range from 30s to 60s with all shapes and sizes. Food at every restaurant was great although we rated Flame (steak) as our least favourite. Breakfast at Sea Flirt overlooking the quiet beach was the best! So let your hair down, check your inhibitions at the door and enjoy your stay at this awesome resort!

Hotel Emporio Ixtapa: Loved the Emporio and Staff!!

Room was good size for 2 and staff were absolutely superb and accomodating, especially the Activity Group with Carlos, Daniel and another activity provider!!!!! I was fully involved in the bicycling of 20 kms to Playa Linda, saw the alligator refuge, great flea market and wonderful beach, lots of water activities at the pool and zumba dancing, well done guys!! The Food Service and Liquor Service Staff were all fabulous as well, I would definitely come back to Ixtapa!!
