Jewel paradise cove is an established resort set on a prime site on Runaway Bay. The grounds are well taken care of. The buildings have had upgrades. There are a variety of places to eat. Good entertainment. Good security. Friendly staff. Covid has made serving buffet food slower but they cope and stay on the safe side. Wonderful getaway for snowbirds.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Best beach in Jamaica!
We’ve been to Jamaica many times and this was hands down the best beach we’ve been to! It’s soft white sand and you can walk out to shallow water for ever. Some really fun snorkelling right off shore. Food was great. Whatever they’re grilling fresh on the buffet was delicious. The jerk chicken at lunch was to die, we had it every day! Highly recommend the Japanese restaurant, teppanyaki was good but even better was just off the menu at that restaurant. The rooms were great, we had a ver[... read more]y large balcony facing the pool and ocean. Shower was very nice, good water pressure. The people working at the resort were so lovely. Great service for us and our kids. The beach party was so fun, live music almost every night. We would go back in a heartbeat!

Ocean Coral Spring: Ocean Coral Spring
We were off to a good start, got the room requests we asked for but I had to call the resort as all of the emails kept bouncing back which in turn cost me about $30.00 for that call.
Rooms were big, clean lots of space to organize. We had 2 rooms, my mom & daughter's room key didn't end up working and maintenance didn't come until almost midnight before they got let in. After that no problems with entry to either of the rooms.
Martha's buffet: first night, hubby grabbed a burger that was p[... read more]ink inside, not impressed. We ended up only eating breakfast here daily and sometimes had to wait over 20 minutes for water & cutlery. My advice.... find a server, sit there every day and you will get better service and a $1 tip goes a long way. The omelette chef was amazing, and I heard the juice bar was really good as well. I did also hear the handling of raw meat with bare hands happened which then touched the cooked pasta, i did not see this personally but i believe food handling training would be very beneficial for all staff.
Italian: our favorite a la carte, ate their twice, service was good too. Some complained of small portions, so double up on ordering if you have a larger appetite.
Route 66: This was good too, service was slow, brisket was good and the shrimp nachos were amazing.
West Indian this was good too, again double up on ordering if you have a larger appetite.
Japanese: WOW, great service, great food great entertainment. Line up at 10am to book reservations and you will get your pick of time.
Red Snapper Lunch burgers undercooked so better to ask them to cook well done on the spot, not a wide variety but enough. A La carte for dinner, if you order patties order a few, they were amazing, the main course were average
Jamaican Grill: WOW i think we had lunch 3 times from here, worth the wait for the jerk chicken and the yams were amazing.
Maid Service, we had a great maid except the day she was off, we waited until 10pm to get toilet paper then our room cleaned @ 11pm we were exhausted. I probably spent about 2-3 hours of my vacation running back and forth to the lobby begging for TP & maid service. Unacceptable to wait for TP, just NOT Ok.
Entertainment: there was enough during the day, big waterslide, wall climbing dance lessons, volley ball. for the Evening they should do the beach party twice a week and have more available seating around that area. I think bringing in outdoor vendors 1 or 2 days a week selling their items would have had a nice touch.
Beach: it's rocky, bring water shoes and you will be fine. you can walk to public beach there were vendors there and horseback riding. They were trying to remove rock and add more umbrellas during the week so it was getting better.
Bars: TERRIBLE. constantly ran out of beer. We were at the beach, the beach bar ran out, then went to red snapper, ran out, then went to pool bar ran out til we finally got to the lobby and they gave me draft beer when they had been giving us cans all week. I would say running out of beer was a daily frustrating occurrence. The servers on the beach were non existence or standing around ignoring us. My hubby got ignored at the sports bar daily as 5 would be standing around doing nothing. There is a lack of management to hold anyone accountable which was very frustrating.
We chose this resort because we stayed @ oceans in Mexico and were really pleased. We knew there would be longer waits due to staff shortage but by Tuesday there were so much staff but again, just standing around not interested in customer service.
We have booked with air transat for years, i can't believe air transat has allowed this lack of customer service as one of its hotels.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Beautiful Resort - Stay Disappointing for the 5 star rating
Pool and grounds expansive and very well groomed; accommodations (superior jr suite) slightly dated but clean and presentable )both tub/shower present); fridge not regularly stocked with water and inadequate amt of towels (needed to consistently request for both); al La carte bookings a MESS!!! Very disappointing as their system (despite online booking capability) is not current and not available in the restaurants (restaurants depend on hard copy print out). - as such walk-ins happen regularly[... read more] and guests with allocated al La carte dinners cannot obtain their allotment - despite empty tables being evident; guest services not at the desk consistently hence not Available to help and when finally managed to meet with them admitted that yes al La carte bookings are a mess - so make sure you book these on arrival; West Jet, on site representative, not helpful AT ALL; Infact at the orientation meeting their focus was to sell you a tour package and not tell you the things that would make your stay more comfortable ie al La carte bookings; West Jet take note - as this reflects poorly on your trips to this destination; hotel and restaurant staff friendly; house wine BELOW ADEQUATE this applies to both the white and red; bottles of wine can be purchased at al
La carte but some of their pricing was RIDICULOUS eg Santa Margherita - Pinot Grigio (CD 20.95) was approx 90 US (🙈); more reasonably priced wines were not available or sold out and not replaced; lastly duration of drop offs/ pick -up slightly over 2 hrs (total time from airport to/from resort) - for my preferences that is too long; given my above views, I would not be rebooking any time soon and most certainly it is not a 5 star resort !

Excellence Oyster Bay: Excellent Resort
Highly recommend this resort! The staff is very attentive & friendly. We felt very safe, all the staff wear masks and they have hand sanitizer at every restaurant of which they ask you to use. They even use tongs to place the napkin on your lap. Everything seemed spaced apart so you didn’t feel you were crowded. The resort itself is very secluded on it’s own peninsula and the property is spread out so lots of private areas if you wanted especially in excellence club beach areas.

Ocean Eden Bay: Good experience
I was concerned after reading all of the negative reviews about the resort but I did not experience any major issues. The food was decent, the pool was amazing and there was always seating available, the room was fine with the fridge always full with drinks. The beachfront was small and quite rocky but I am more of a pool person so this didn’t bother me. You do need to get to restaurants as soon as they open, otherwise the wait is long but the food was always good. The resort is definitely sti[... read more]ll working out kinks and I wouldn’t say it is 5 star worthy but it was fine. Would I return, probably not but I don’t regret going either.

Royalton Hideaway Blue Waters: Tired resort
Covid protocols are sanitizing when entering a restaurant and taking a temperature, wearing a mask to sit down in restaurant. The staff had masks on at all times, but many of the guests didn't when entering elevators or lobby.
The staff are wonderful, they are all cheerful and will chat with you if you engage with them. Shout out to Patricia on the Beach who brought us drinks all week.
The resort grounds are nice, we didn't use the pools but they are very attractive. Only 1 of the big water[... read more]slides was ever open in the week we were there, and they are not made for large adults (based on the flex in the tubing when an adult went down). If you don't like the smell of Marijuana don't go here - lots of people were taking advantage of the local product throughout the whole resort (balcony's, outdoor seating areas, beach).
We found the food was very good, the Caribbean restaurant and the jerk hut were authentic and tasty. When we got to the resort it wasn't full and was easy to get in to the restaurants, but as the week progressed it filled up and became harder to get a table - the restaurants are shared with the Blue Waters Resort next door. Also two of the restaurants listed online were closed all week - Taj and Jade. Calypso and Armadillo alternated opening nights. Asked at the front desk which restaurants are open and they didn't know or told the wrong one - found out part way through the week that there was a desk in the lobby that had a list of openings - why isn't this posted on like the activity board?
Now our room - it really needs a lot of work, beyond just the regular tiredness of dirty grout and dinginess. We paid for an Oceanview room, the ocean is only visible if you stand at one end of the balcony and look sideways. Otherwise you just see the balcony's across the courtyard. The room pictures featured by the supplier Sunwing show very little of the room since the room is fairly small. Our room had a King bed and a weird sofa, a desk with fridge and place to put suitcase and that is it. We had looked at the pictures on the Royalton site but they are all for the Diamond club rooms. If you get checked into a room with a connecting door demand another room - unless you like to be woken up when the neighbors come in or have sex. When we checked in the A/C didn't work, our safe needed resetting - these were fixed within 2 hours. The handset on the phone didn't work, but there was a speaker phone on the base unit. The hinges on the bathroom door are damaged, making it hard to open and close, with a horrendous noise. The closet doors are stiff to slide, unless you want try to open the drawers in the closet then they slide back at you. Our balcony sliding door didn't lock at all - the part on the door frame was totally destroyed, so you had to pay attention to make sure it was closed properly. We had asked to change rooms when things weren't working and were told no, even though rooms were available.
We have travelled to many islands and stayed in a range of establishments from 1 star to 5 star and got what we expected from the rating. This resort is not a 4 1/2 star in our opinion but a 3 star or because of the restaurants a 3 1/2 star.

Couples Tower Isle: Not Impressed With Couples Tower Isle
Unfortunately my wife and I were not thrilled with the Couples Tower Isle resort. The food was ok, service was slow and the rooms / amenities were very old. We would not go back. Being a Couples resort we were left a bit speechless.
Our first impressions were not great. The staff at the front desk were not friendly, welcoming or even smiled upon arrival. We were then walked to the far end of the resort to our room down a dark hallway which was a bit frightening as the lights were off. We late[... read more]r found out that they try and conserve energy and they are turned off during certain hours of the day. A simple explanation on our way to our room would have went a long way rather then walking us down a black hallway. The elevator has ripped carpet, and an excessive amount of streaking down the doors and mirrors. First impressions felt like a run down dirty motel.
Rooms - The rooms were ok. View was excellent (which was the best part) ! Mattress was hard as a rock! Mini bar had 1 pepsi and 1 sprite in it as well as two beer. You get a 20 year old coffee maker as well as a very old beaten up storage unit for the mini bar and coffee maker to sit in. Our shower curtain was hung way to high so it was almost impossible to enjoy a shower without half flooding the bathroom. We tried everything to keep the water in the shower but it was near impossible. Tv's were good and channel selection was also decent. Wifi to the room was very spotty, slow and inconsistent. This is not a place to bring a laptop and complete work at.
Bars - Always slow and ran out of popular drinks such as Mojito mix, Champaign, Scotch etc. At times the bartenders were outnumbered with 30 guest circling for a drink and 1 bartender working. The main bar which is near the buffet was always slammed. There was always a wait and always 1-2 servers waiting to collect drinks for their tables. At times, it just wasn't worth standing around waiting for a drink. The bar within the piano bar is better, but also ran out of Champaign and Scotch. Most nights, while watching the entertainment the bartender would be by himself with over 50 guests with servers popping in for drinks for their tables. You should never run out of drinks at an all inclusive. The third bar, which is in the pool, we never actually went to. (Reason coming below)
Buffet - Was not too bad. Food was decent but I found there was not a lot of options for people like myself who were allergic to Shellfish. The service was always spotty in the buffet. Sometimes they would fill your coffee and water consistently and sometimes you were having to flag a server down to get a refill of coffee or water. One meal, my wife asked the server for some cutlery as there was not any on the table and they server just never came back. However, the number one thing that was not good at the Buffet was ordering an Alcoholic beverage. Almost every single time we ordered a drink from the bar it just didn't show up or would show up once you had already finished your meal. Breakfast was pretty good, although their machine that toast bread and bagels was broken almost every morning which was frustrating. This would require a server to unplug it, let it cool down and turn it back on. At this point, you give up on anything toasted. I also find it odd that the resort workers would sit and eat at the buffet including the onsite personal trainer. On our last meal, we were having breakfast before heading to the airport and I ate a piece undercooked sausage by accident. Within 4 hours, I was so sick I almost didn't make it on my plane home. I'm on day 4 and I am still stick. I only ever ate at the resort so if It wasn't the sausage it was something else.
The Verandah - Service was ok. Our server brought us the wrong appetizers and made jokes to us that we were wrong and just changed our minds. I assured her that she made a mistake which just wouldn't accept. She did end up getting us the correct appetizers after some back and forth about it. They ran out of Wine and Champaign at dinner and we were only able to enjoy 1 glass. (How do you keep running out???) The food was pretty good, steak was decent. Desert was really good in my opinion.
Bayside - This was the worst place to eat at the resort. The view and setting was excellent. To ensure my wife and I got a great seat we showed up a bit early and were first in line to get seated. I wanted a seat on the farthest end which has the best view of the ocean. The server quickly began sitting us to the opposite side. I told her I would prefer to sit on the other end for the great view and she said we were not allowed. We had to negotiate to sit in the middle of the restaurant. I quickly realized that the hostess was sitting the seniors in the best spots and the younger crowd on the end she tried to sit us. The food was awful. Udon noodles were actually fettuccine and the dish was so spicy that my wife and I could not eat it. My wife also complained that her soup tasted like warm water. (Oh, How could I forget? They ran our of Champaign....we were the first seating of the night). We ended up hitting the buffet after and enjoying some awful heartburn from the Bayside.
Eight Rivers - This was the resorts best attempt at fine dining. Be careful of the dress code or you will have to quickly run back to your room and change. First time we went I wore sandals. Second time we went, sandals were not acceptable. Our server which we had twice was the best server we had all week!! She was excellent, her name started with an S, unfortunately I forget it. MY only complaint for this place was the bottle of wine we ordered which was $35 USD showed up more then half way through out meal. We had to sit and finish the bottle even after we were done desert. The second time we went, my menu and my wife menu showed completely different items which we didn't realize until we both tried to order. One menu was right and the other was not correct.
Veggie Bar - My wife tried the veggie bar for lunch. 45 mins to get some spring rolls and a coconut drink... Food was not great. Grilled Cheese tasted off. She never went back to it.
Pool Side Lunch - Service was so slow. at least 1 hr. to get in and out of that place. The area where they have plants hanging on the far wall are moldy and dirty. It did nothing to add to the look and feel of the place. There is quick options to grab food on you way out. You can choose from Nacho's, Popcorn, or Ice Cream. The Nacho chip warmer and popcorn machine looked to be about 30 years old. This is a high end resort, why have such old appliance on a counter? The expresso Machine was out of service during the only time my wife wanted a nice coffee during the trip. They simply laid a table cloth over it. The Jerk Dogs were pretty good as well as the onion rings. Everything else on the menu was questionable. Our server dropped our packages of ketchup and mustard on the floor and I watched him put them back onto the plate and bring it to our table anyways... Gross.
In Suite dining - The only time we wanted to utilize this service was for coffee in the morning. I called the front desk and the only time they would drop off the coffee was between 6-6:30 am. I told them that was too early and I would like coffee for 7:30 and they would not accommodate it. This forced me to purchased two expensive travel mugs from the gift shop to fill up each morning at the buffet and bring back to our room for a morning coffee on our balcony. Side note: Lady working in the gift shop is miserable and the servers would often stare at me and give me dirty looks for filling up a travel mug of coffee in the morning rather then use their tiny cups.
Cleanliness of Room - Was good. However, our routine on vacation is always to rest from the sun and take a quick nap between 3-5 pm before dinner. IT was disappointing when most of the time the cleaning ladies would not show up to our room until later in the afternoon which prevented us from being able to do this. There was times we would want to utilize our room late in the afternoon and it was still being cleaned.
Pools - Pools were good. I wasn't a fan of the pool on the east end of the resort only because a large group was their every day. They acted like they owned that are and would take every single cushion off the lawn chairs and use them to build a Volleyball net. This was not the pool to hangout and lounge in which this large group taking over. Was disappointed the bartenders didn't put a stop to it.
Excursions - Duns river, Catamaran and Snorkeling were excellent and free through the resort. This was free and well organized and on time! I questioned why there was so many workers sitting around socializing on the days where watersports were canceled and there was still 1 bartender
Piano Bar - This was our favorite part! The entertainer at 9:30 every night was amazing and we really enjoyed him.
Drinking Water - There is not bottled water on the resort. You must use your free plastic bottle in your room and fill up at their drinking water stations. I still had a hard time trusting the water and bottled water should always be available at a resort.
Transportation - The resort did not have contact information for an Air Canada rep and the only person they had contact information for at Air Canada retired 3 years ago. This made booking our trip back to the airport challenging and took over 2 hours on the phone on hold to get it figured out.
In summary, I felt that the servers and culture of the staff was low. Very few seemed happy to be there or even enjoyed their interactions with us as guests. I often wondered if the pandemic has put some serious financial strain on the people as well as the resorts. Everyone seemed out of practice. Considering the price we paid and the reputation of Couples resorts, I was beyond disappointed with our experience. I've been to less popular resorts in Mexico and Dominican and had way better experience.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Will be back
What can I say. This holiday was well needed after the two years we just had and I think was just as happy to have us back.
This resort is beautiful… big yes but beautiful. Pools are great. Always could find a place around the pool, didn’t need to get up at 6am to lit your towels on the chairs. Never a line up at the buffet.
COVID or the COVID measure are very much enforced. Walking into the buffet area everyone was made to disinfect. Really liked this and I hope it never goes away.
On[... read more]e con if you can call it that. We had an issue with our key not working (first day checking in and one other time ) I will say this they didn’t just leave us. The stuff was on it. The second time the maid called for maintenance. You want something done get the ladies in “pink†to call them…. They say jump maintenance says how high lol …. They were there so fast when they called them
This is resort was an hour away from the airport but I would recommend private transportation. First time I did it for COVID reasons and will always do it now.
Oh and don’t forget to book club MObay at the airport. Depart is a must.

Royalton Hideaway Blue Waters: Good but could have been better
The beach, pool and water park were great. The food was ok but I have been at better resorts in Jamaica. The room was small for a family of four and the bath and sink didn’t drain . Check in for the Diamond club took forever so we didn’t get to meet our butler until day 4. Butlers did go above and beyond to try to accommodate our requests.

Bahia Principe Explore Jamaica: Beautiful Resort!
The resort grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The food choices were excellent with something for everyone. There could have been more gluten free pasta choices at the buffet. The Japanese restaurant was excellent and the chef was entertaining. Our hostess Monique was great.

Our room was 16413, the music was so loud in our room that we could not sleep til music stopped at 2 am. Riu Negril: Great beach to do some snorkeling
Great vacation place! The hotel service was great, people are very friendly!! The Hotel is clean, and we really enjoyed the ocean front room. Was worth the extra money to us, all rooms are a nice size and bathrooms are in good shape. We enjoyed a drink on the balcony every evening before dinner and we likely would not have used it so much in not ocean front. (As they are private!) grounds were clean, they work hard to keep the area nice. There is a great snorkeling patch on this resort which is unique to here and we loved that. Spent an hour each day snorkeling and seen lots! Easy fix to just grab a bottle in the duty free on the way and have in your room for the evening. The food was good, main dinning just as good as the restaurants they offer.
I feel this was a great value for the money and it was so beautiful 🌴🇯🇲. You will enjoy!
