The resort was very nice. Clean, rooms were lovely (apart from the weird open concept bathrooms). Resort staff were wonderful and accommodating. The biggest downside was the food. Absolutely abysmal. Undercooked, overcooked, pasty, frequently mislabeled. This part was really a turnoff. The beach was fine, not the best not the worst.

Majestic Elegance Punta Cana: not worth the price
i started looking at this hotel because i had extra credit from a canceled trip. we have travelled to a number of all inclusives in the carribean usually 4*, twice in
la romana first time in punta cana in the dr. i was looking for quality, beach and entertainment.
we stayed in the family section as opposed to club section, so had no butler. i had signed up for the fb page and had a number of questions answered. thank you
the incoming flight was uneventful and when we arrived had no tro[... read more]uble at checkin. the wrist band which looks like a wooden looney or silver dollar is your room key, which i wish every resort would do this. apparently air canada has the normal plastic wrist band not sure why.
We went to the sunwing orientation and the rep was useless he gave no info on the hotel just wanted to sell excursions. thank you facebook page.
the room for the price was ok. the tv came with no channel guide posted in the room.
there is a separate bathroom and shower rooms the two sinks are in the main room. the only 2 issues i had with the room were asked but never addressed. there was a broken switch in the bathroom and the patio door had no handle on the outside so you had to use your hand to open it from the outside?
what makes this hotel is the absolutely fantastic beach which seemingly goes on forever which it shares with other hotels along the beach so you could chose another hotel along the beach and not miss out. we went in feb and all days were windy and of the 10 days 4 days the weather was not great.
the place is large and if you have mobility issues don't stay here there are no carts driving around.
the food for the price was good and varied. not great
a lot of fruit and desserts, pasta station and meat cooking station.
my biggest issue 80% of the food is not labeled. i don't eat seafood, not allergic, and don't want to waste food by having to spit it out.
most hot food was luke warm not hot.
the service in the buffet or ala cartes was sporadic.
we ate at italian ok, gourmet ok and japanese better.
the greatest disappointment was the entertainment there were typical shows you'd see at 3 or 4 star resorts. the karoke show was in the theater and at one point someone sang a song about suicide, another was a woman and 2 little kids did a rap song with fk and btch, apparently she thought the song was supposed to be edited.
in my opinion they should change some shows to the beatles, abba, elvis.
a number of events, silent disco, foam party were never posted i just happen to be in the lobby or pool when they took place, what else did we miss.
the nightly entertainment other than the posted shows were sporadic and not every night.
we watched the first half of the superbowl in the theater and at halftime walked down to the beach because there was supposed to be a beach party. there was nothing going on at our beach but in the distance at the sister beach we could see lights on the beach, they were showing the superbowl, which we watched i thought it was another resort and not sure if we could eat or drink so we didn't. i would defiantly had watched the entire game on the beach.
i found the communication from the front desk and other staff inconsistent. mixed answers to questions and some staff were not friendly. most staff were friendly.
the flight home from sunwing left us stranded at the airport for a day and a half with little to no communication from sunwing when situations occurred and we were canceled at the last minute twice, a snow storm at home caused problems for all airlines but the sunwing people were treated with total disrespect. lack of communication was the biggest issue.
i tried to keep this short and only spoke of things i thought unique to this resort.
i'm basing my review based on the higher price and expectations. if you booked it
don't worry it is a beautiful well maintained resort.
i would not return to this hotel mostly because i thought for the price i expected better entertainment, events posted and issues resolved. for the money i would go to sandals or secrets other known high end resorts.

Ocean Blue and Sand: Nothing fancy. But clean and good service
Nice resort. Very clean. Service was very good. Everyone worked very hard and was very friendly and did their best.
The a la carts were not very organized. Didn't seem to have much management.
They super overserved our 18 year old MULTIPLE times throughout the week. NOT COOL!
The rooms need work. Our laminate floor was all warped and beat up. The dresser was missing pieces, not much clothes storage, the table in our balcony almost toppled over.

Melia Caribe Beach Resort: Great Resort!
In short this was the best resort we have stayed at in 10 years. We have stayed in Dominican Republic five times and this has been the best resort for food. The room was comfortable and clean. Our room from the beach was a little far but at least there was a ride on the train LOL anytime that we wanted.

Dreams Onyx Resort and Spa: Great resort
The resort was lovely, immaculately clean and the staff were lovely. We booked a Premium Poolview room which turned out to overlook the waterpark in Building 7. Initially, we weren’t too keen on the location because we thought it would be too noisy. However, we soon appreciated its close proximity to the restaurants and to the Breathless resort next door.
Our room was huge and we really liked the huge walk in shower. The beds were comfortable. The restaurants were great. We had n[... read more]o problem getting in as we are early diners.
The pools were a little on the cool side but we acclimated after the initial jolt. Initially, we used the Dreams pool. However, we found it noisy and ended up using the Breathless pool for the rest of the week. The Breathless pool closest to the lobby was loud and rowdy. We avoided that and stayed in the mid section of the pool near the Grill. It was generally quiet and we had no problem getting chairs. The beach end of the pool with the swim up bar was a little noisier. Basically, there were pool options for everyone.
We only saw the fire show so I can’t comment on the entertainment. Overall, it was a good week snd I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Grand Bavaro Princess: Amazing Hotel for our Anniversary
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at the Grand Bavaro Princess for the second consecutive year, and it was an unforgettable experience. We stayed in the Platinum section, which offered exceptional amenities and personalized service. The resort's grounds are beautifully maintained, with lush vegetation and a serene atmosphere. The food was excellent, with a variety of options to suit every taste. We particularly enjoyed the PBG rooftop patio and the private beach area, which provided a tra[... read more]nquil setting for relaxation. The staff were friendly and attentive, making our stay truly special. This resort is perfect for those seeking a peaceful getaway, as it is not a loud or party-oriented destination. We would definitely return for another anniversary celebration.
Just avoid the “Orange Shirt” folks in the golf carts. They are selling timeshares and very pressuring. Just say no politely and keep walking, they eventually get the hint!

Royalton CHIC Punta Cana: Great Resort
I was pleasantly surprised by our stay at this resort. The grounds were beautifully maintained and clean including the beach which was raked every morning with a tractor. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The service was amazing, from the cooks at the buffet to the servers in the restaurants to the bartenders and waitresses, all were pleasant, polite and truly made our stay fantastic.
The food was also very good, a good selection at the buffet everyday from breakfast to supper. We ate at 4 [... read more]a la carte restaurants and all were great, with our favourite being the Italian followed by the Indian.
The entertainment in the lobby every night was also good and our gang had fun dancing and watching the performances.
If anything could be improved, I would suggest more beach chairs at the beach they were sometimes hard to find because people get up at the crack of dawn and reserve them with their towels.
We were an older group of travellers whose ages were 50-late 60’s and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Occidental Caribe: Beautiful Resort & Best Beach!
Honest review. Staff was friendly, food was an abundance in the buffet and all staff were accommodating our group of 6 for a table together. We were there for 10 days and arrived on a Wednesday. We booked ala carte's on the Thursday with hardly a line up and could only book what was available. They apparently reset for ala carte's on Sundays which I went downstairs same time (7am) and the line up was huge. As for the ala carte's were were able to book all with the exception of Sea Food as t[... read more]his is only available on Wednesdays. Our favorite by far was a toss up between Dominican & Paris. The rooms are very outdated but were clean and we had no complaints as we spent very little time in our room. The beds were comfortable but the pillows could be upgraded. There are 4 floors with elevators however still a lot of walking so for those who have difficulty with this I would ask for a room close to the elevator. We were in building 7 on the 3rd floor (7321). We had the quiet side however just a peak of the beach. My cousin had room 7410 (4th floor, building 7 room 10). Their view was fantastic. Beach & pools. Casino was really small but we won $100. We would go back as the price was right.

Paradisus Palma Real Golf and Spa Resort: Amazing resort and amazing staff
My husband and I had a wonderful vacation. It was made so by the wonderful staff and in particular by Fransisco. He made all the difference and quite frankly made our stay absolutely wonderful.
Our favorite meal was at the Dominican Republican restaurant and our waitress was fantastic!
This was our second time there and will return!

Riu Bambu: Do not book
Worst resort I’ve been to! Food was terrible, artificial and processed. Omelet and scrambled eggs made with the artificial container eggs. Got food poisoning the first night off the bruschetta. Spoke to another couple and same happened to them off the same food. Resort not kept clean. Found female staff hiding in the washrooms, on their phones. Not a 5 star resort, 3 1/2 at best. Pool floors were always dirty, no one walking around to pick up cups or clean up. The only good thing was the rooms[... read more] were cleaned properly. However such a big resort, they put the families in the far back about 15 min walk from the main area and the beach. Beware of this resort. Will not be visiting Riu ever again.

Bahia Principe Explore Legend: Bahia Principe Grand Punta Cana - Feb 2025
This review is for Bahia Principe Grand Punta Cana.
Good: wrist band has a micro-chip that opens door to room; animation team (fun dancing, Zumba on the beach, aquafit, pool games, evening shows); food is mediocre between buffets and restaurants - fresh made pizza dough is delicious; can make reservations on a self-serve screen in the lobby or with Guest Service, Rodizio Brazilian restaurant was delicious! Nice beach (white sand, turquoise ocean); nice grounds with efficient trolleys to get [... read more]around the property; self-serve coffee machines and wine/beer taps; the Village beside the hotel is useful with disco, shops, 24hr medical clinic, and specialty shows - need to make reservations for the Dominican Fiesta ($16 US).
Bad: over 1 hour to check-in (after 2am, with mosquitos); no loungers available at pool or beach - many chairs sit empty with towels on them; overcrowded buffets and slow lineups for food - staff couldn't keep up with cleaning tables, plates, cutlery, making for a chaotic experience; have to pay for a fresh pina colada $5-$10US, otherwise, the bar mixed pina coladas don't taste very good.
To know: big complex requires lots of walking or using trolleys to get around; my renovated room 22206 was well located near the beach but about 10 mins walk to the lobby for breakfast; gym is dark without enough weights for the few people using it, the leg press machine was unusable, I didn't see any cleaning between use of equipment.
Bring: sunscreen, rain jacket and small umbrella, mosquito/sand fleas repellent, wash cloth (towels, shampoo/conditioner/shower gel/soap provided, but not cloths).
Flights: Air Transat had delays on departure and return. My itinerary said "multi-meals", which means food for purchase, but Transat lacked choices. I ended up with a small, dry breakfast sandwich for supper, very yucky, for $10 CAD. Since it was a night flight (5:20pm), by the time we arrived at the hotel, there was only one gentleman to check-in a bus load of vacationers which took longer than expected. Punta Cana was 1 hour ahead of Ottawa; due to the flight delay (over an hour), the time to retrieve luggage, and the wait on the bus before driving 30 mins to the hotel, we didn't get there until around 2:30am local time. This turned into a 4:30am bedtime by the time I got to the room and found a snack (since a proper dinner was not offered on the flight). Maybe it's ideal to take a morning flight.

Riu Bambu: Amazing beach
Beach is unbelievable, best I've ever seen.
Otherwise the hotel is definitely not 5 stars. 4 at most.
A La Carte is not really worth the time, at all. Pretty much the same food all around except for the steakhouse.
Rooms are ran down. We had a big party of 20 people across 5 rooms. All rooms were ran down. With that being said, they were NOT a disaster. Acceptable by our standards.
Service was statsifactory with us, all issuess adressed in a tmely manner.

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana Beach Resort: Great Resort
Beautiful resort. Grounds, pool and lounging areas are well maintained. The room was spacious and staff cleaned and restocked it everyday. Played Golf at local course where they had a deal with the resort which was fantastic. Only complaint would be cold food. They seemed to struggle in this area.
