Cayo Leventado Don Pablo by Bahia is one of the best vacation properties we have visited. From the most excellent staff who gave the property a fun and friendly vibe, to the high quality food and drink - a la carte or buffet resto's, we found quality service and a wide variety of excellent freshly prepared foods. The accomodations were fantastic in the Villa's with beautiful views and large spaciouse and comfortable rooms. The oversized balconies with full wicker seating and a cieling fan to boo[... read more]t were awesome!
Several beaches and a bunch of pools always offered variety. Loved the fact that the main beach and main pool were only steps away from each other. From beach volleyball and body surfing and snorkiling to just chilling this property had it all.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Nice resort
Resort was kept very clean, food was not as great, there was problems with the room but they corrected it with gifts. The beach was not very nice, the gourmet a la Carte was the only good restaurant. The cleaning maid forgot to restock the mini bar everyday.

Bahia Principe Explore La Romana: Good place
Clean, presentable. Staff is constantly working on keeping up the place - lobby, grounds. Beautiful pool area.
Rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. However, the lighting in the room and bathroom is below the average. The shower only has half door, causing the water to splash all over the floor when you're taking shower. No hot water sometimes.
Restaurants are great, especially the Italian one. Buffet is good too. Always can find something to your taste.
Staff is friendly and custom[... read more]er service oriented for the most part
The only biggest disappointment was the muddy water in the ocean. Crystal clear Caribbean water is the number one reason for choosing my destination and this hotel missed the mark. Thus, will not be returning and will not recommend to someone who is looking for a great beach experience.

Occidental Caribe: Very nice resort
The hotel was a little dated. It needs some on going repair which would be more preventative. The front desk people pretend they don't know english until you wiggle american money around. We waited from 1:00 to past 4:00 for our room. They gave us an upgrade because of the screw up, but it shouldnt have happened in the first place in my mind. Other then the sign in nightmare we did have a great time !!!
The gift shop was a complete scam. They had things marked up 3 - 4x (in usd) what w[... read more]e could buy them for at home. The excursions too were extremely expensive. So, just make sure you bring lots of money :)

Alsol Del Mar: Peaceful and Tranquil Resort
The view from our hotel room was spectacular. The grounds were immaculate. The staff were friendly and polite. This was a very relaxing and quiet holiday. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to relax.
I appreciated the beauty of the grounds, they were always clean and well kept. The food at the restaurants was OK, lots of choices. Our rooms were well kept and clean also, I would have liked for our maids to speak a little English, we had 3 different ones who just nodded their head even if we said Good Morning to them. The entertainment was better than at most resorts but it was very hard to enjoy when the dancers and singers seemed to be screaming all the time into the microphone. On the whole[... read more] I had a good time and enjoyed my vacation.
I would like to report a damage claim to my luggage that happened on the day we were checking out. I called to have my luggage picked up from my room and held until the bus came to take the group I was with to the airport. My suitcase was in perfect condition when the bell boy picked it up at my room. When the bus come my suitcase (noticeably would not stand up, it kept falling over) was loaded on the bus with the other bags for my group. The bus driver unloaded my bag and the airport porter took it to the check-in line for me. It was when I tried to pull it to the counter that I noticed the handle on the bottom of my suitcase had 3 of the 4 rivets pulled out and the piece was trailing underneath my suitcase. I had to ask the Air Transat Ticket Agent at the Counter to tape it to my suitcase for the trip home as I didn't want it to be totally ripped off. This piece of luggage has only been used 3 times and I would like to be compensated for it. I have taken pictures and can send them to you if required.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Tired Resort
Good: Food was outstanding at 4 restaurants and 1 main buffet. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Entertainment team was awesome. Close to golf. Safe gated area. Lockbox in room.
The not so good: Bad smells everywhere. Room was damp and musty, cesspool beside walkway to beach had waste water draining into it and evening fogging for insects with no warnings. No screens for fresh air & bugs. Music way too loud and distorted & feedback. Pool needs painting and walkway to beach needs attention.[... read more] Litter on beach from previous days. Lack of hot water and pressure for showers and 1/2 day with no water at all. Power went out and air conditioning was effected. Hard to relax on beach with constant flow of vendors. Very little shade on beach.Massage and spa prices at hotel ridiculously expensive. Poor room security as locks broken on sliding doors and forgot key in room and front desk gave new key with no questions asked.

Senator Puerto Plata Hotel: Average Resort
The hotel is a little run down and could use a good overhaul. The grounds are immaculate. The food is very repetitive even for a one week stay and we were there two weeks. The beach is large and you never feel cramped. Plenty of loungers available although it's time to replace several of them that are damaged. No need to get up at at dawn to reserve a lounger. There are very few places to escape from the smokers and when you find a rare no smoking area there will be someone smoking nearby and st[... read more]aff just ignor it unless you point it out to them. That being said the best part of this whole resort are the staff. The staff from all departments seem to go out of their way to be helpful and friendly. The frozen so called fruitie drinks at the bar are of poor quality compared to what I have come to expect from RIU hotels over the many years I have stayed at RIU hotels.

Occidental Caribe: Beach and Pool awesome
The beaches and pool awesome. Grounds were good but now comes the bad the food always cold and undercooked. Drinks watered down probably to around me 10 percent I wish we would have brought a hydrometer to test just out of curiosity. The staff not so good as I'm not a 20 year old woman with nice breasts. All the woman staff were professional

Bahia Principe Explore Legend: Great Resort, minor issues
The grounds and room are gorgeous, food and selection was great. Good entertainment from what I saw (we have a 4 year old so we would head to the room by 9). The beach was excellent ... 5 minute walk or wait a couple minutes for a trolly ride. The beach was busy, the pool and both water parks werent. No issues with towels or getting lounge chairs. The issues we had ... The a la cartes only had availabilty to be booked for after 8:30 (on day 2 of the trip) ... Pretty silly for a family resort. O[... read more]ur wifi would work for a day, then not the next ... The other 2 families we were with had no issues. Our A/C was mediocre (again no issues in the other 2 rooms). Our bath tub drain wouldnt hold water and jets kept popping out. We werent that concerned so we didnt call the lobby about it. Finally, there is nowhere early in the morning for coffee. Im up at 5am and from 10pm to 7am that place shuts down. All in all, still a wonderful resort just not quite a 5 star

Casa Marina Reef Resort: NOT Recommended unless you like harassment
Casa Marina Reef is a beautiful, big resort on a nice beach with great food. The Mexican a la carte serves a fantastic burrito!! My husband and I stayed there early February and had a very good, relaxing vacation... EXCEPT for the VENDORS.
Vendors set up on the resort three times a week. Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. They are right in the middle so you can't get from one side of the resort to the other without passing through the maze of tables and vendors calling you over constantly. [... read more]And you can't just walk away, they FOLLOW you!! If you get away from one, the next comes running over... it's very overwhelming.
In addition to the vendors, every single day the ladies who want to braid your hair follow you around and harass you, even if you're sitting in a dark corner, tucked away, minding your own business. They expect very high prices for a two second braid job and don't, repeat, DON'T take no for an answer. One woman had my ponytail pulled out and my glasses sitting on my lap and had started braiding before I could even move. Another wanted $25 USD for four tiny, inch-long braids she put in my husband's short, curly hair and got very upset and was standing over him as he tried to stand up and wouldn't let him move until we paid her. We refused, said we told you NO over and OVER, No Gracias, No Thank You, No, please, I don't want this, and they did it anyway. They both started getting really angry so we gave them each $100 pesos just to leave us alone.
Then there's the excursion people who walk around daily all over the beach and resort and ask you over and over to go book a diving tour or an excursion. There's also a guy with an iguana and a guy with a squirrel monkey that will wake you up on your lounger and ask if you want to pay them for pictures with their "pets".
If you manage to get past all this, and are trying to get to the lobby for any reason, you're then confronted with the extremely pushy timeshare people who block the ONLY walkway to or from the lobby. They also don't take NO for an answer.
Out in Sosua, it's no different; people call to you from their souvenir shops, their salons, their restaurants and their cigar stores. Think you're safe standing on a street corner, waiting to cross the road? Nope, there's someone pulling over to you on a scooter asking if you want to rent it. Then his buddy tries to sell you Viagara, marijuana and coke.
It was our first time in the DR, and the last. The people are overwhelming and very pushy. We understand they are making their living, and working hard to do so, but it's unnerving and extremely uncomfortable when they won't take no for an answer or won't stop following you, even on the resort!
Huge thank you to our Transat rep, Daly, who was on the resort Monday to Friday from 9am-5pm. He was amazing, very helpful, and always available. He even helped out other guests as much as he could when their own reps were either busy or didn't show up that day at all.
Also, despite the All Inclusive package stating that non-motorized water sports are included, the resort started charging tax to the company that provides the equipment, so they stopped providing snorkel masks or anything to the guests... unless you pay for it. And their snorkeling tour has different prices for different guests, the man at the counter told us that Europeans have to pay $60 USD, whereas they only charge Canadians $50 USD for the same tour, and they ask you to be quiet about the prices...
We loved the resort (mostly), our room was great, no issues, the food was fabulous, the drinks were good, but the staff at the bars and restaurants weren't friendly at all, barely spoke to you, and we stopped tipping after a while because the tip would be whisked quickly off the bar and thrown in a tip jar and only twice were we ever thanked or acknowledged!!
It's very unfortunate, but we did not feel safe on and off the resort, and we won't be going back to the Dominican Republic ever again. We'd been warned people can be very pushy before we left, but assumed we'd just politely decline, and move on. We were not expecting the level of harassment we experienced, and we tried to be firm but polite (as we are nice people and didn't want to be disrespectful) and walk away, but until you are actually in this situation, all day, every day, you don't appreciate how uncomfortable it actually is.

Loved it! Service was amazing. The rooms and grounds were very clean. Food was great with lots of choices. The only downfall for me were the drinks. I think they use syrup for their mixes and tends to be strong at times and hard on the stomach. Overall it was an amazing time.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Really good time
This hotel has a lot of stairs. They do however, have shuttles that run constantly, to get you anywhere you want to go. The food was very good with a nice selection every day. My favorite restaurant was the Brazilian. The staff were all amazing. They were very friendly and accommodating. Special shout out's to Blacky, Blondie and Mini mo for their fabulous Spanish lessons and pool aquatics. I got sick while I was there and had to go to the resort doctor. Thanks so much to Dra. Sanchez for her gr[... read more]eat care of me. Yehisson (Jason) makes the very best Pina Colada on the entire resort. Search him out, you won't regret it. He can be found at the bar closest to the beach. Our room was 20422 and our housekeeper Carmen was amazing.
My biggest and really only complaint about this resort was that there was literally no nightly entertainment. We would have settled for pumped in prerecorded music. There was nothing. The nights ended very early every night because of this. Because of this, I would not go back there. When on vacation, you don't really want to retire to your room early every night, but with nothing to do, the room balcony was a relaxing alternative.

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana Beach Resort: Fantastic Vacation from start to finish!
My wife and I just returned from 6 days at The Majestic Colonial in the Colonial Club (adults only portion) celebrating her 40th Birthday. We had a gorgeous ocean front room that was kept so nicely by housekeeping staff. The grounds of this resort are meticulously kept by the friendly staff. Every morning we watched as sidewalks were swept of sand, beach lounges scrubbed and washed, pool areas cleaned and you'll not find cleaner swimming pools. The restaurants were all quite good (Japanese w[... read more]as our favouite/French was our least favourite) and the buffet's for breakfast, lunch and dinner were all great. The only suggestion to improve on those would be better warming elements under the serving trays (i.e. scrambled eggs) to keep the food warmer. You can guarantee warm if you line up and get your omelette or eggs cooked to your liking but the stuff on buffet should be kept warmer for enjoyment. The beach was fantastic and I can't say enough about the staff in particular our Butler Reinaldo who was there whenever we needed him and always come through on requests of him. We would go back to Majestic Colonial in a heartbeat!
