The Reserve at Paradisus Punta Cana: The best resort ever!
The resort property is exceptionally clean and well landscaped and the hotel suites are very large and modern with all the amenities of a 6 star hotel that you would find in North America. There are dozens of restaurants offering a variety of mouthwatering menus located throughout the resort within a short walking distance or you can take one of several shuttles available to whisk you anywhere you want to go including to the magnificent white sand beach located at the other end of the resort. Th[... read more]ere are plenty of daily activities that you can participate in or you can just lazily read a book or swim in the many large pools. The staff are exceptional and really get to know you and cater to your every need. All inclusive... all the food and drinks are included, which is the best part of the trip! Sun and fun all the time and never too hot! This resort is a fun place that caters to all ages including young kids that have their own kids activity centre and pool. This is my third time to the Dominican Republic and my second straight time to the Reserve. I look forward to coming back next year to the Reserve without hesitation!

VIK Hotel Arena Blanca: wonderful resort !!
This resort was smaller than we usually go to but loved it because everything was close. There was never big line ups. Not a problem getting a lounge chair. The beach was amazing at this resort. Pool was a little smaller than I like and I missed having a swim up bar but the beach made up for it .

Riu Republica: Would l go back ?
The resort is ok to be honest. I guess my biggest complaint is the music at the pool. I love to party and have fun, but when the speaker YES One speaker is being blasted to the point of distortion and you can't hear what your conversations are with friends. This is no FUN also the entertainment group need to learn how to speak into a microphone.
The shows at night also need to be better very boring.
Having the same band every night on stage before the show starts gets old fast.
As for the [... read more]rooms good job, lobby nice, restaurants great, servers awesome, management great ( Neills) thanks for all you did for us.
THEY need to implement the pool rules, eating in the pool, smoking and flicking the ashes in the pool, spilling drinks, vomiting in the pool,
ALL VERY POORLY MANAGED ☹ï¸
The pool workers especially ( Rafael) great pool guy, the bar guys are money hungry if you don't spot the 5 Or 10 bucks they will serve you last very rude when you stand they and they ignore you so beware.
WOULD I GO BACK PROBABLY NOT.
I have been to other Rui chains far better certainly NOT a 5 Star Resort.

Wyndham Alltra Punta Cana: Great resort. Had a wonderful time.
Grounds and pools are wonderful. The food was great at both the restaurants and the buffet. The staff were just wonderful and very helpful.
The rooms were clean but the bathrooms could use a facelift. Could also use luggage racks in the rooms.
Would definitely go back.

The Level at Melia Caribe: Resort was nice, service was average
We stayed at The Level, adults only area. Hotel was nice, very large. Food was good - the Thai, Steak House and Japanese were our favourites. We were disappointment with the overall service (it was average) and golf. The VIP lounge couldn't get a hold of the golf course to book our tee time the first day we arrived. Our package included unlimited golf, we just needed to pay the mandatory golf cart fee. At $70 USD PER PERSON, per round, we thought the cost was ridiculous. Also unreasonable given [... read more]the
golf course was average. We ended up playing the course only once and spent our money elsewhere, played at other courses, for the rest of our stay.

Sunscape Dominicus La Romana: VIP is the way to go here....lovely.
Myself an a friend spent a week here; unsure of what to expect, as some reviews worried us.
First, it's 20 minutes from the airport, I like a reasonably short transfer like this.
The check in, a wee bit of a gong show, as reception directed us to ''follow that guy'' a guy in a blue shirt who was swiftly moving through the area. Anyhow, he lost us. ha ha.
We found our way to the VIP lounge, and got things back on the rails.
The room, (a junior suite) had a bedroom with a king, and a b[... read more]alcony, and a large tv, and the front room had a queen and a large tv with a chaise/couch but it was more set up like a living room. Also a balcony, then out back was a large terrace with deck chairs. Oh there was a kitchen also. Could the room have been decorated nicer? yes, would some simple paint spruce up the bare white walls..of course... did it affect our trip? obviously not.
The grounds, very clean ( the water at some sprinklers really smelled foul at times) The beach is clean, white sand, considerably rocky as you walk the beach a good distance. But the beach area for lounging and swimming is good. The VIP area had a good number of beach chairs, and NEVER had to worry about ''saving'' them, many times we were the only 2 out there. The regular beach area was JAM PACKED regularly with towels on every chair, but often not bodies on the chairs.
VIP pool separate from the regular pool was quiet, clean and again, no one there. It was great. NO sqwaking kids or thumping music with foolish poolside games etc.
VIP had their own small restaurant next to the pool, so you didnt have to wander far from the beach/pool. Granted the selection was quite limited.
The bar service around the VIP beach and pool was excellent.
Each morning Miguel would make sure things were good in our room and ask if there were any issues. He also made dinner reservations for us each day. On one afternoon it began to rain, so .. we had Miguel make us a reservation at the spa and had a grand deep tissue massage...it was excellent. Once finished we returned to the beach, and the sun was back.
We ate at the Brazilian, Mexican,(best margaritas ever!) Gourmet 2x (vip captains dinner was steak and lobster wow) and Japanese. We did not go to the pizza restaurant, as pizza was readily available on the buffets and snack bars and we just didnt see a need.
Each evening we had drinks and rapid wi fi in the VIP lounge, we also often elected to have a wee snack or dessert in there after dinner had settled. It was nice as there was no smoking inside...outside in the plaza area where the nightly music etc was...was SOOOO THICK WITH SMOKE yes...outside... it was quite surprising.
VIP guests get wifi for 15 hours in the room. Wifi was also available at the VIP beach.
It might have been a small amount extra to go VIP but...highly recommended.
We were happy with the amenities, the staff, the cleanliness, the drinks, the service.
One thing we did notice, we like to make friends when we travel and ''hang out'' or get to know new folks. it was VERY difficult ( actually impossible) for us as we speak ENGLISH (with a smattering of spangleish) we were not able to find any other guests who spoke english. Tons and tons of french... and dutch... so we enjoyed ourselves anyhow. Just an observation.
Oh!!! and the guys who are in like safari clothes... with safari hats... those are TIME SHARE guys... they ask if you got your welcome bottle of mamajuana and free t shirt. they take you to the time share desk near the pool...and you get a well dressed time share shark to drag you all around giving the hard sell etc. If this is not your thing... dont fall for the free tshirt/bottle ploy. We watched it happen time and time again. Just tell them yes.. you got it and keep moving on.. ( unless you WANT to check it out)
oh ,and in the evenings, there are the usual sales people in the walkways (like in many resorts) they are pretty aggressive and try to reel you in to come look at their wares... if it's not your thing, just be polite, say no thanks and keep on walkin.
NO PROBLEM!!!

Majestic Mirage Punta Cana All Suite Resort: JUST AWESOME
This resort although brand new does have some problems but the staff are real quick to get the problems ironed out. My husband and I stayed at this resort from Jan 11-18, 2017 We had a great time although the weather was really lousy. We had the adult suite, highly recommended. Our personal butler was Pablo(short) and he was amazing. There were 2 Pablo's. If you need something...ask Pablo. We were in building 3 on the top floor, facing the pool and the ocean. Hot tub on the balcony. We h[... read more]ad two sliding doors one off the bedroom and then the sitting room. Two bathrooms. One shower but there were two showers. Both a rain shower and hand held one. They both did not work all the time but again one of the little problems. We had maintenance up to our room because the air conditioning started making a horrid noise. Maintenance was there in like 5 minutes. Eddy was great. The housekeeping staff were excellent, the people who filled your fig, replaced towels....my goodness there were so many people in and out and everyone having a different job. Kind of hard to keep track of them all for tipping. The restaurants were very nice again a few problems/ Francesca is the Food Manager. She does a really fabulous job. Patricia is the Manager of the resort. She will try to fix any problem that you have. All in all I think in a few years that this resort will be one of the best got to go to. I say a few years only because the vegetation is really young yet. If the young vegetation does not bother you, this resort is great. The pool was still filling up when we were there but it was full by the time we left. Lots of bars to quench your thirst and the wait staff were really pretty great. I give this resort a 4.5 out of 5

Grand Palladium Punta Cana: Beautiful beaches!

Beautiful place, everything was kept very clean and the entertainment was very enjoyable.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Blue Bay Villas
The entertainment staff do a great job and try to get everyone involved. The resort staff are very friendly. The beach and pool areas are OK. There is no shade on the beach and not a lot of shade around the pools. They need a lot more umbrellas round the pools as there are very few and most of the pool loungers need replacing. The rooms are basic with very old furniture. There is not a lot of storage and no storage at all in the bathroom. The bed linens are old and should be replaced. The walls [... read more]are so thin you can hear everyone in the adjoining rooms. The food in the buffet and a la carte restaurants is good and varied. The breakfast buffet is not very well organized - no cups, saucers, glasses on the tables most mornings - and minimum staff serving. I would classify this resort as a 3-star - definitely not up to the standards of a 4-star.

Viva Tangerine by Wyndham: Great resort
Rooms and facilities are clean and up to date. Food is good, beach and pool good, close to town. A la carte restaurants were good. Shows ok. It is a relatively small resort so all amenities are close. I would return to this resort.

Paradise Playa Dorada: Not a 4 star
Not a very good experience checking in, seemed chaotic scramble of staff trying to assign rooms. We were given a suite on 4th floor add on which had one window in each room but you had to stand on your toes to see out! On complaining a few hours later,we were transferred to superior garden view room which we had purchased in our package but it was not in great shape, certainly not 4 star! Fortunately the quality of the food, beach and pool area was excellent which overall gave us a nice vacation[... read more]!

Punta Cana Princess: Excellent Resort
The hotel is beautiful, small and close to the beach, the rooms are stunning and the view in building 4 and 5 are the best!
The staff are so special and go out of their way to treat you like family, that is why this was our third time back and this was our first time for two weeks to which we will do again next year. While we were there we were invited to a private dinner for repeaters where we were toasted for coming back and most of the people there have been coming back for more than 10 y[... read more]ears!
I was quite impressed by how they treat every guest no matter how many times you have been there.
I would like to shout out to a few of the workers there, although I can't remember all names some are; Felix at the beach who will take very good care of you, Tonny one of the entertainment staff who is one of the funniest guys I have met as well as all the girls who work with him, I know there is a guy at the pool who does the entertainment there as well I didn't get his name because we spent our time at the beach but watching him and his crew from my balcony always kept me entertained. The buffet staff will do all they can to make you happy, Raysa and the girls who seat you at the Buffett were truly wonderful, we didn't do a lot of the ala'cartes because the staff at the Buffett were so special and we all became very close to them.

The resort was nice the food was great no issues with having drinking water supplied.Entertainment excellent ,lots of activities to do daily Beach was good .
Although I gave good comment the service was not that good for use First day they had us in an undesirable room when I complained that we had upgrade to supreme the came and changed us ,(we selected this resort for the adult factor) The next room was much better, but with all the confusion we did not realize the welcome meeting was the n[... read more]ext morning at 10 a.m.and we missed it . Our room was to cold with the air on so we were told that if we went out to conserve energy by pulling the card up to shut off the air while out of the room so we did.
When we returned to the room our keys did not work, walked back to change them, returned to room we had no lights the outside light also was not working ,I went to call the desk and we had no phone . that meant every time I needed something I had to walk a good distances to solve the problem. we never did get a phone The coffee machine could not be plugged in from where it was and i could not move the counter to heavy.
I contacted the manager after complaining to the guest service manager , he suggested they do something to make up for it . this was Tues. or Wed. they offered to move us again I said no that we had moved enough being elderly and handicapped we were against the move so they offered us a special bottle of wine or an a la cart dinner , amazing !! I told we already get all that included now why would that be any better. I demanded to see the hotel manager I was told I would have to have an appointment so I said tell me what time and I'll be here, couldn't give me a time so I said thy could find me at the top part of the pool where arobics are done that was approximatly 9 a.m. still by 11:30 a.m. I had no responds to my request so we went down and told the guest services that i want to see the manager When the Manager of the Hotel came she took us into her office and i explained everything .she asked what they could to make up for it ,I told her what had been offered and that we already had all those features available To us, but we thought a fair offer would b a nice bottle rye for my aunt and set of towels with the BLUE BAY logo for me she said that sound o.k. She asked if she could come to the room with me and I said certainly.no one had told us that info she made me feel very stupid she walked through everything and Entertainment was the thing that kept us going entertaining staff excellent NEVER DID GET ANYTHING FOR OUR TROUBLES I I GUESS THEY THOUGHT TWO OLD LADIES WOULD JUST EXCEPT IT AS THERE PROBLEM ' NOT GOING TO BE i am sure spreading the word will give me some satisfaction.

Bahia Principe Grand San Juan: Definitely going back!
My husband and I just got back on Friday. What a beautiful resort! We had a one bedroom master suite which was awesome, two bathrooms and two balconies overlooking the ocean. The food at the buffet was great, lots of selection! The beach was nice but definitely does not compare to Cuba. The nighttime entertainment was great with lots of audience participation. The staff was very friendly and went out of their way to make sure everyone was having a good time! We will definitely be going back!
