Playa Pesquero: 8th time there, but disappointed

This was our 8th time at Playa Pesquero. I have to say the staff make this place, they are the best! However this was the first time the lack of variety of food was disappointing. Everyone knows you dont go to Cuba for the food but there was very little this time. That being said when we upgraded to the 18+ premium side , a whole other story. Rooms were beyond anything I've ever been in, food was plentiful and amazing, butler service was fantastic. Just when I thought it had redeemed itself, de [... read more]parture day! There were at least 5 flights leaving out of that tiny airport. We waited 2.5hrs to even get checked in which of course delayed the flight by at least an hour. The airport staff were very very slow and not helpful at all. In fact if I wanted toilet paper I had to pay for it! Honestly we love Cuba or we wouldn't keep going back but we dont think we will be going back anytime soon, unfortunately.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Beautiful resort

The suites were clean & fresh. The housekeeper created cute towel animals daily for our bed. Fresh towels daily, which is nice. Staff couldn't do more for you. I broke my wrist while I was there, the Resort Doctor & Nurse were so helpful getting me to the hospital and the follow-up care. The food was top notch and the selection was wonderful. Playa Costa Verde: Good resort for the price they offer

We won this trip but had some friends pay to come with us and we were more than pleased. The food on the resort was some of the best resort food we've eaten despite some reviews ( we've travelled to Punta Cana, Riviera Maya, Puerto Plata and Costa Rica prior to this trip ). For a change in flavours I would highly recommend the japanese a la carte. We were served teriyaki stir fry with whichever meat you'd like in it. I would visit this restaurant in Canada if it was available. The rooms we staye [... read more]d in were older but clean with working AC and hot water which we've had problems with on some other resorts. The pool entertainment was constant and fun. The ocean was nice, but there were large chunks of coral. To go swimming we had to have footwear. Some workers were an absolute pleasure, and some were very poor quality but I'd give the service a 4/5. The weather was beautiful the entire week. We'lll definitely be going back to Cuba after this stay!

Sol Turquesa Beach: You won't be disappointed staying here !

Just got home from a wonderful week away at Memories Holguin. I can now understand why there are so many repeat clients year after year. The staff was beyond amazing, helpful, always smiling or asking if your enjoying yourself. It was 100% genuine. The food was good, a couple of dinners were even amazing. It was my 5th time to Cuba and I've never used amazing, when it comes to describing food in Cuba before. The resort was very clean, house keeping was incredible and helpful. Yes, there a [... read more]re a lot of stairs from pool to pool, but there are also golf charts that will take you around the resort 24 hrs a day, always with a smile and a wee joke or two. We had a wee issue and the the front desk was very co-opertive to sort it out without a hassle. Overall, I would return as they staff does treat you as part of the Memories family.

Playa Pesquero: Perfect vacation

We have visited Playa Pesquero many times over the past 13 years. The pools and ocean are spectacular. The restaurants and food selections are plentiful. The staff are truly the best. Be sure to take a tour to see how the locals live.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Friendly!

Compared to other resorts I've been to, this one is tired. It needs some TLC. The food is ok. I find that I really can't get a wine that I really like - kind of disappointing. However, the staff is so friendly and hard-working. I looked forward to seeing them each day. All in all, it was fine.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Beautiful resort 💛❤💚💙🧡💜

We stayed at the Club Amigo for the first week of February 2020 as a Couple We booked in a Villa to be closer to the beach and a King size bed. It is a huge and amazing resort that is perfectly located. The beach has many different places surrounded by beautiful coral. There are many bars located all over the resort and the staff is very friendly. Bed was very comfortable but the pillows are very thin so bring a spare pillow or ask the maid and she will provide extra pillows the following day. [... read more] Rooms are very clean and Ac works perfectly. Always hot water to shower even during spring break when the resort was completely full. We loved the 24 hour drinks and snack bar with délicious little hamburgers and grilled ham and cheeze sandwiches. The main buffet doesn't have a huge selection but it tastes pretty good compared to many resorts I've been to in Cuba. I didn't use the safe in the room but kept my passports locked in my suitcase and all was safe. I never go to the same resort twice but planning to come back to Club Amigo before the end of the year. Playa Pesquero: Great Holiday

Hotel was fantastic, wonderful staff, food was good especially good Gondola and Romantico al-a carts. Beach was good for snorkeling. Had issues getting beach locations for shade as beach is shared with many hotels. Best to be early riser to save loungers. Also note CUC money best to change before leaving to airport as once you go through only American and Canadian money used. Also very high exchange rate from Canadian to American money...so bring some US dollars to spend for sandwich or w [... read more]hatever at airports.

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: A Cuban delight

Buildings a bit run down and need for constant maintenance and paint. But we know and accept that this is common in Cuba. For instance we changed rooms because the toilet did not flush, the wiring was exposed and you had to do a shoulder charge to open the door. But that's OK: the hotel made no problem about changing rooms and the new room was more satisfactory (although the bathtub finish had gone). The grounds were attractive and well kept. But a pity to see guests stuffing themselves solid. I would like to see the hotel advertise permanently the walking trail in the adjoining conservation area ( only about 300 metres from the hotel). I must also add that we were impressed by our agent in Canada, Laura. She took a personal interest, answered our questions and was very helpful. Indeed we were impressed by Trip Central's 'customer support.' I don't think we have ever had such good service before, from any travel company.

Sol Turquesa Beach: Disappointing Resort

Although we chose this resort because of the beautiful photos posted, we were sorely disappointed once we arrived. The rooms are old and sparse of amenities. Our pillows were not actual pillows, but rolled up foam. There was only hot water for showers on 2 days. Power outages were daily. Leaving us with no options for exchanging money until restored. This translated into poor service at times because we didn’t have pesos showing. Servers would skip to people showing tips. Also a [... read more]ffecting pool parties by cutting music and dinners in the dark almost daily. Features such as the grand waterfall were non functioning. Toilets in public areas had either no toilet seat or no privacy door. Often no toilet paper. Pool bars ran out of rum on some days. Pool towels were often not available for exchange. No coffee or cups in the room although we had a coffee maker. Sling chairs on balcony had no sling, simply a frame with no seating. Fridge in room wouldn’t close properly to keep water provided chilled. Only water provided, no soft drinks or beer which is pretty customary. Television was an old, small box set that was very staticky. Clock in room was unusable as an alarm because of power outages in the night. Extra blankets in closet were unusable from the musty smell. Bugs were swarming and biting to point where I had to go to the on-site clinic to get a needle and some cream to soothe the bites. They were spraying for the bugs, but it was ineffective. People were walking around, like me, scratching and itchy. When we asked to change rooms to something more suitable, we were asked to pay another sum of money as an upgrade. We refused as there were so many issues outside of the room we opted to not risk more money on further disappointment. Although we have been to Cuba many times, have loved it, and will return. We will not return to or recommend this resort at all.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Club Amigo---- Sunny shangrila!

For a quick one week away in the sun this venture was well worth it. The facilities including the numerous pools and restaurants were well maintained and the staff very curtious. The a la carte restaurants were of course a better bet for your dinners out but having been to Cuba before and in recognition of some limitations they face on access to supplies we were not disappointed. Iberostar Selection Holguin: Amazing vacation

This hotel was amazing. Our family had a fantastic time. The entertainment was incredible, it kept everyone engaged. The rooms were spacious and clean. Lots for everyone to do The staff were very friendly. Only thing I would change is the food it wasn’t great but we didn’t starve. The Japanese restaurant was a must do

Hotel is very clean and the staff are very friendly. We have been here three times now and would go back. Food is very basic but we were never hungry. Beautiful beach and clear blue ocean for swimming. Lots of places to walk to and explore.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: White sands and blue waters

Rinke and i had the pleasure of spending a month at this really beautiful resort. The gardens were kept in pristine condition as the gardeners did their best with the few tools they had. For the lack of gasoline, the lawn grass was about 2 feet long. The resort was always full, mostly Russians who were loud and had no respect to staff or other guests. Quebecers smoked even where no smoking signs were posted. They were worst than the Russians cept they tip. Our room at the Villas were really nice and comfortable. Although we enjoyed the beach, it's a struggle getting a hotel beach chair as the locals take over the beach and all the chairs, no control. The locals who are not guests use the toilets, the snack bars, bars, as there's little control. Security is everywhere and does nothing. Whoever manages the resort lack discipline and management skills. The Ala carte resturant serve delicious meals, we were allowed 3 per week. Our visit at the dentist was another experience. For 50 CUC we were supposed to get our teeth cleaned. I spent 10 minutes in his chair while he took 2 phone calls and left the room twice. He spent 3 minutes on my mouth, my teeth was the same when i left as when i first went in. I asked, are you done? He said "yes" i asked when he planned to clean my teeth, he said i was done. To future guests, please save your money. Or, demand he clean your teeth. I'll never return to him again. Over all, we will never spend a month at this resort again. 2 weeks will be enough. Playa Pesquero: Premium at Playa Pesquero

Our group of 8 stayed at Playa Pesquero Premium Jan 29-Feb 8, 2020. 4 of us were returning guests, having been there 4 years ago (on the non-Premium side) We remembered the beautiful beach, assortment of activities, and great coffee. This was my 7th time in Cuba, 4th time in Holguin. We were greeted at the main entrance and were immediately shuttled the Premium side. No waiting, easy check in. Met by our by butler(s) who took us to our rooms which had everything we could have asked for plus a j [... read more]acuzzi tub, indoor glass enclosed shower and beautiful outdoor shower. Highlights: No need to rush for chairs in the sun/shade on the beach. You have reserved seating, with butler service, on the best part of the beach. This in itself is worth the extra dollars, in my opinion The "Snack" bar serves 3 courses for lunch. The food is great. Premium alcohol. Good scotch, bourbon, red and white wines. Nice mixed drinks at the snack bar,beautifully presented My friends and I had Zumba classes arranged for us in the gym. Lianet (sp) was talented and we had a lot of fun The pool never had more than 16 guests ( including our party of 8) We ate dinner in 3 specialty restaurants on the "main" side". Just had to mention our choices to the butler and seating was arranged. Romatico was fine, the other restaurants paled in comparison to the selection and food in the "Premium" dining area We travelled to the "main side" for a buffet lunch one day and quickly returned to our side after waiting in line and experiencing the noise and frenetic activity there. Called our shuttle and booked it back to our dining area for great service, good food, peace and quiet The only thing I missed was dancing after dinner. When the show on the "main side" ends around 10 pm, most of the activities end. Playa Pesquero hotel/resort is good. It offers a comprehensive package for a good price. Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Great for the price

We had a great vacation at club amigo Atlantico ,15th time there . It is an older resort which needs upgrading. The food is Cuban and plentiful not fancy .Staff can not do enough for you ,if you treat them right. Grounds and area are beautiful . Lots of things to do in the area .

Playa Pesquero: Nice clean resort

The hotel is very clean and staff are very friendly. The beach is very well kept and tidy. A very large resort with plenty of opportunity to walk off your buffet breakfast lunch or dinner. Food is plentiful so you won't go hungry. A la carte restaurants is the way to go. The buffet food is ok but it's what you would expect for a large resort. A few lineups for fresh cooked food but if you are willing to wait then it's not a problem. Our particular room was needing a refresh but all in all it was [... read more] ok. A very safe area to walk to the local market or take a horse and buggy ride for 5 CuC.

Playa Pesquero: Awesome resort!

We spent 10 amazing days at the beautiful Playa Pesquero resort. It’s a huge family friendly place with amazing pools and perfect beach. If anyone gets a chance to go I would recommend booking an Extravaganza private lobster dinner on the beach. Absolutely breathtaking!

Playa Pesquero: Another great vacation

This our fourth trip. The resort was wonderful. It was clean and the staff is amazing. The beach was beautiful and the pool was also super. The coffee bar and ice cream parlour were my favourite places to go. There was a gas embargo and a lot of food was unable to get to the resort. This meant that many of the meals were repeated and some of the seafood was not available. This affected all of the resorts not just playa and they did the best they could under difficult circumstances. Do [... read more]n't judge the food during the embargo it is what it is. We met many new friends both from Cuba and from around the world and I hope you will give this resort a go. The only disappointment was the diving. The reef is dying and there is so much dead coral, it was very sad. We only have ourselves to blame for the state of our reefs.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Fiesta Americana

We spend our holiday there from January 18 to the 27th. We went with four friends. We had a blast, beautiful water, clean rooms. Food as expected service staff was run off their feet, short staffed all the time and at every aspect. Housekeeping staff was gracious and lovely as always. What we were not expecting is to be flat out ignored by the entertainment staff. Now I must also include that there only seemed to be three of them, which is ridiculous for a resort with kids. There are many other resorts that would be happy to include everyone in activities.
