Playabachata Hotel: Paid a good price for our stay
Resort was nice. Price we paid was a good deal. Price went up by 2.5x by the time we left. Our price was a deal anyone who paid the 2.5x price not so much. Beach is beautiful, 2 pools one too crowded and noisy one quieter during the week but busy and crowded on the weekend. Lots of broken chairs on the beach and by the pools, might as well get rid of them there are lots of loungers around. Room was fine, bed was comfortable and ac worked good, maid service was good. Food at the buffet was good, [... read more]tasty and a variety. We had issues with our safe that never did get fixed unfortunately. I think the only reason I wouldn’t go back is that the hosts really try to pressure you to go to the resort next door to try it out, have breakfast, they just want to convince you to buy into the time share. No thank you.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Horrible experience
My money was stolen the first day I arrived and my credit card was used without my authorization. Hotel staff was the only one in my room. The manager and security accused me of drinking and possibly allowing people in my room which was not true. I would recommend getting a safe as soon as you arrive.

Playabachata Hotel: Disappointed
The beach was fantastic. The rest is a bit disappointing. This more a 3 star rather than a 4 star. The beds were comfortable but the rooms need renovations. The restaurant food was ok, but no wow factor. Disappointed that we had to stand in line to book a specialty restaurant the day of and there was nothing special about it. Also, due to the Sunwing problem upon checkout, there was no rep. to talk to. The front desk called him but he never answered. Tried to check with Sunwing app but could not[... read more] get through.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Great vacation
Nice place to go to. Great staff, clean and good food. Very relaxed atmosphere . Could use some upgrade to entertainment, but I’m sure Covid has affected that. Happy , hardworking, pleasant staff, especially Roberto at pool bar.My only complaint was the stairs in main areas, I saw 3 people fall in a week on the marble, you can’t see them, they blend into floor.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Ok resort but not 4 1/2 stars imo
The resort is a mixed bag:
Food is good, but lacks variety I expected for the rating
Very Clean
Booze was disappointing both in terms of quality and selection.
Entertainment was not as good as I expected. There was no “viva†vibe
People nice and courteous.

Casa Marina Reef Resort: Another great stay
This was my 8 or 9th time at Casa Marina I have list count.
The resort is in the town of sosua and this is one of the many attractions to this resort.
The resort itself is very well kept the grounds and beautiful.
The main attraction for me are the 3 cool pools where you can relax, have a drink and meet people from all over.
The food was good I actually put on a pound or 2.
We are booked for October already a group of 10

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Good for budget but little things could have made it nicer.
Recently returned (April 14 2022) from Viva Wyndham Heavens and feel we got a little less than what we expected but still enjoyed the sunshine and pleasant people of the Dominican. The resort deserves high marks for cleanliness and the attentiveness of their staff to the limits they are permitted.I say this as with every trip to the Dominican Republic I've always found the people to be very welcoming and willing to help. It seems at this Resort the training provided is lacking the attention to d[... read more]etail seasoned travelers have come to expect over the last number of years. Little things like service around the pool or on the beach, timing of meal courses during Ala carte dinners, bread plates when serving rolls, offerings of the entire accents to a meal rather than delivering upon request when convenient. Visited Blend, Rosmarino and Pueblo 222 as well as V Kitchen (buffet). Blend has a good offering of Seafood and Steaks however your quality/ cut of Steak will be a hit or miss situation, I had one night over marinated cheap cut and on second occasion although very small it was good.Someone needs to look at the table/booth heights as I'm 6' 2" and the table was above my sternum, not comfortable. Rosmarino, or Italian was just okay, far too sweet a sauce is used everywhere, and should consider Fresh Parmesan offering. Pueblo 222 was my favorite however why not offer the wonderful guacomole, Salsa and cream with the Fajitas/ Tacos rather than people having to ask for it. As far as the Buffet I don't believe I had anything hot from the steam tables all week, and never once saw what we would call bacon at breakfast. Although creative you could see the efforts made to use every bit of what was previoulsy served. Inexpensive booze but reasonable beer and no Canadian whiskey at all. I saw an occasional bottle of Absolut Vodka bu that was for VIP clients, so if VIP gets Absolut the rest of us are wondering how VIP the VIP could be? By the way, do not under any circumstances order the Club sandwich from room service, we lost 2 days with illness as a result.

Lifestyle Tropical Beach Resort: good resort to visit
We just return from Life Style tropical, good vacation without any surprises, very calm and peaceful vacation with good food and entertaining. Restaurants added value to our vacation, delicious food. Our priority were beach and ocean, which was very nice and enjoyable, not deep not dangerous, a little bit waive, just amazing. Only one minus you should take care about chairs on the beach and walking distance is more than usually. Also make sure that you should walk under hill. Casa Marina Sosua Trademark by Wyndham All Inclusive: Beautiful location! Nothing can compare
The location is by far better than anything in the area. Jacuzzis on the cliffs at sunset, breakfast by breaking waves, when the waters are calm turquoise water in the beach.
Only areas that could be improved are more staff at buffet (provide better, faster service) and more $$ for animation and cooking staff etc

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Sunscape Puerto Plata
The resort is a hidden gem, it is beautiful and the staff amazing.
The covid protocol is still in effect at the resort, masking to enter restaurants and shops.
Visiting Puerto Plata City, no protocol, they have no covid.
The food at the resort is amazing, buffet and al a carts. There are usually 2 different al a carts each night all different. There was theme nights at the buffet eg. Mexican, American, Dominican etc..
The pool is a walk in pool for those who want to slowly get in. The Staf[... read more]f have an aqua fit class twice a day, dance class and learning Spanish during the day, they talk to everyone making sure they are all having fun and if you need anything they will find a way to find it for you. The beach is beautiful, staff keeps the shores clean everyday.
There are venders walking up and down with different services. I got my hair braided and nails done, bought gifts for a few members of my family. you can bargain with them for a better price. My husband got manicure and pedicure (he says his hands are still smooth and soft). As a returning guest (thanks to our travel agent) we had a bottle of rum and chocolates in our room. thanks Janet.
We did the City Tour excursion, went up the cable car to the mountain which has a botanical garden, cave and lagoon. The view of Puerto Plata was amazing.
Went to the Jeweler at the resort and bought a Larimar /Amber ring, Larimar necklace and ruby earrings. He is very knowledgeable and easy to understand and very courteous. They have a coffee bar with different hot drinks and snacks (donuts are fresh). The snack bar is open lunch, supper and late night. Hamburg, fries, chicken, salads. all very good. The Resort has a drink of the day which I tried everyone, all good.
All in all it was a fantastic time. Will definitely go back.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: A pleasant stay!
I stayed with family in April 2022 and purchased the Premium Package. The premium lounge was incredible and definitely worth the price of the upgrade, in my opinion. The staff there were attentive and accommodating, especially Yohelisa the bartender. The beach was also stunning with great chair-side service and Bali beds in the premium area. The room was quiet and clean but a bit dated, nothing fancy. The buffet food was varied and I enjoyed dinner at the Octopus Restaurant but was disappointed [... read more]by the Italian. Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: good for the money
lots of pros and cons about this resort. considering we paid less than 800 each, the trip was well worth it. food was decent although ala cartes were always booked up. tried to book rodizzo on the first night and it was booked for the entire week. the beach was small and secluded, and one end was perfect for snorkeling. wifi was pretty crappy, but you do get one hour a day for free. souvenirs, drinks, smokes etc are more expensive here than other countries like cuba or mexico, and alth[... read more]ough the sales people are really aggressive they dont like to negotiate. the resort is huge, with lots of stairs, but there is a shuttle running about every 15 mins and we never had a problem catching it. our room was kept clean and everything worked well. we were given 4 coors lites in our fridge as a welcome gift. freddy is a good rep and helped us book the paradise island tour, which is awesome, as long as you pay the extra for the catamaran, otherwise your just riding a motorboat to a sandbar. the vague septic smell is a real thing but didnt keep s from enjoying ourselves. we would go again

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Great resort just some things need to change
I am very happy you chose me as one to do a survey. It is my second visit at your hotel. Your staff are amazing. Chocolate at the entertainment crew fantastic. But there were two people I want to give special attention too. I don't know her name but she was my cleaning lady in room 7212 from April 2nd to the 11th. When I travel, I purposefully do not allow cleaning people in my room for I know they work hard and want to give them a rest. However, I tip for the days they did not come in due to my[... read more] own request. This woman who knew very little English went out of her way for me. She would see me in the hallway and point to coffee etc and she was trying to tell me I know you don't want your room cleaned but do you need anything through sign language. The other woman is working at your congierge area. Her name starts with an a M. She is very pretty and very thin. When she found out that there was no creamers anywhere to be found in the hotel she brought me some from her home. I was so shocked and touched. She is the best. Those are the best people from the bottom rung to the top. You requested to discuss covid measures in your hotel. In no way could guests wear masks due to heat. Your staff had them on but very few if only maybe 5 percent were covered up fully. They had their masks up but only covering their mouths not noses. I get this with the heat and having to communicate all day long very difficult. I would highly suggest staff be given glass visor masks so they can breathe and communicate well. The hotel grounds were immaculate and precision care was given, most importantly public bathrooms were given great attention I commend. But a few things changed and I think the whole chain should be aware of this before the name Iberostar goes down in reputation. There were so many prostitutes in the hotel I counted about seven. I talked to two of them, they said they had rooms there. I saw four woman surround two German men who left with these woman two nights in a row. I knew for a fact their wives were sleeping. I also met a man in his mid thirties who admitted he hired one of the girls. He said he gave her the 24.00 american as requested but instead waited to he went to the washroom and tried to steal his winter coat. He then told her to get out immediately. You have to understand in Canadian culture we can have compassion in our hearts for those poor people who have to resort to such measures. However, many tourist woman noticed in hotel and were not impressed at all. Please make measures from now on to not allow this.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Good resort
Nice resort, mask are worn In the restaurant until seated, also worn to get a drink at the bars, rooms were clean, staff were friendly, didn't like that you had to go to the pool area to get coffee and not until 6:30 am, need more variety of food at the beach bar, entertainment was good but the same every night, not enough music or entertainment in the day. Entertainment at night was only about 2 hours most times. Food was good. Beds were very comfortable.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Ugh!
We have been here before so we knew what to expect in terms of the size of the resort, the large amount of stairs, the hustle and bustle of golf carts, motorbikes and buses and the run down rooms. However we were very disappointed with our visit this time. We booked for 14 days and half way through we were wishing it was time to leave. I’ll try and break it down into the good, the bad and the ugly.
The amazing staff at the bars, restaurants and the entertainment staff. So many wonderful s[... read more]taff who go out of their way just to make you smile. Wilfredo was our absolute favourite bartender. He is such an amazing person even though we had a language barrier.
The Pearl buffet offered a good variety of food. It did get a little repetitive after 14 days, but that’s to be expected haha. The staff serve you at the buffet and all self serve items like bread, buns, cheese are all Saran wrapped in individual servings. We also enjoyed the hamburger and fries down at the beach.
I did get sick for 2 days and I’m assuming it was from the extremely undercooked bacon I had one morning. I only ate part of a slice because it was horrible - but was down for 2 days vomiting etc.
The resort gets over run with locals from Friday - Sunday….and I mean over run. It gets to be quite overwhelming as some of them act like they are more entitled to be there than you, they are rude and will cut in line. We definitely enjoyed Monday - Thursday much more.
Don’t even bother going to the casino unless you are VIP. They claim everyone is welcome, but that’s definitely not how you are treated when you walk in. We tried to get a drink and the bartender ignored us for about 5 mins while actively serving the other 3-4 people. Then when we finally got served you could see how irritated he was just serving us. I guess we weren’t high enjoy up the totem pole to warrant decent customer service. We stayed about 30 mins, left and never went back. We walked over to the Tropical one day just to check it out and look around. We tried to get down to the beach so we could walk back to Cofresi side but weren’t allowed access because you had to be VIP to access the beach. Like seriously, we just wanted to walk through to the beach. We weren’t trying to use the VIP area, bars or restaurants…just simply walk down the path to the water. Ridiculous! We literally had to struggle daily to get an adequate amount of drinking water!! Housekeeping would leave 2-3 500ml bottles and if we asked we sometimes got 1 extra. You could only get plastic cups of water at the bars/restaurants. We ended up saving our empty bottles and going down to the pool bar each day to fill them up. Getting sugar and cream so you could have a coffee in the room was also like pulling teeth. Some waitresses would give you sugar packs if you asked and we saw other people order a glass of milk and then pour into water bottle. Great idea but we didn’t notice that until near the end of our stay.
If you want any snacks (chips, pop, chocolate) or need any items like Tylenol, tampons, cigarettes, beer ect we highly recommend walking 5 mins off the resort to the local store as you will pay WAYYY less than if you buy anything at the duty free shop that is grossly overpriced!! To get to the store, walk down the beach towards Ocean World, you will be able to tell when you are off resort as it gets pretty dirty with garbage ect. You will see a grassy open park like area - the store is directly across the road. Well worth the short walk for sure. My husband bough cigarettes at the duty free and paid $10 a pack, same pack at the local store was $5. Speaking of the duty free - when we were in there the lady working was visibly sick. She was coughing, sneezing, runny nose the whole works. She had a face cloth in the hand that she used to wipe her nose and never once put it down while serving us. Never sanitized her hands nor was she wearing a mask. Pretty disturbing while we still have covid lurking around. I understand that she may not be able to miss work but there were 2 other staff just hanging around leaning on the counter that could have served customers so she could be more behind the scenes.
If you are looking for drugs or prostitutes just go to the front of the resort as they all hang out just off the resort property. My husband was literally approached by a prostitute 5 mins after we arrived while we were checking in. Not the best way to make people feel welcome lol.
Overall, we were happy to finally travel after 2 years. We enjoyed to beautiful weather and relaxation, but we would not go back to this resort again. There was just too many negative points that we can’t overlook.
