Bahia Principe Escape Samana: It was definitely not a 5 star
First I want to write that I was not happy with our trip advisor Louise Issa. She was very pushy to get me to book and booked without us paying. When I wanted to change that booking she said I couldn't (even though I had not paid). Once I went into pay she made me feel like I was bothering her. I had a few questions which initially she answered promptly and then just stopped answering them. I would suggest someone else.
However, the resort she assured me was beautiful etc. It was averag[... read more]e and really not what I expected at all. It was mostly the food that was warm at best even if you arrived right when it opened. It is a very small resort with one pool (cold) but the beach was nice. The room was nice and I did have ocean view but I was on the second floor so I had to look over the spa to see the ocean ha. Also, the 1 hour from the airport is actually 1 1/2 or 1 3/4 because what they fail to tell you is they drop passengers at two different hotels first. I definitely would not spend the 3000.00 and go to this resort again, nor would I use trip central (louise)

Excellence Punta Cana: Wonderful Resort
Just spent 14 beautiful days at this resort. The name " Excellence " says it all. Have been to other all inclusive resorts but this friendly staff is by far the best. We especially had some great chats with Junior. We enjoyed walking around their ecological park on the resort, feeding the fish, ducks and flamingos. We look forward to returning to this resort again.

Wyndham Alltra Samana: Beautiful Samana
This was our first time to Samana D.R. and the weather was absolutely wonderful. The hotel was very nice and very clean. There is a lot of work going on when we were there (Jan 15 to 22, 2017) in order to make this resort awesome. The beach was a highlight with beautiful blue water and white sand. Abundance of loungers so no need tyo fight over them. Our room was large and had been redone with a very comfort bed, hot water and a/c. Some of the other quests said that they were having trouble with[... read more] the a/c and others with the water. I think it was because there was so many upgrades going on at the resort. The food was good and the al a cart restaurants were very good. The staff were all very friendly. My only complaint was in the dining buffet area. They could have been more organized. It seemed that the staff were doing all the jobs rather than specific ones. Entertainment was OK. The first 2 nights we were not impressed and they had brought people from the audience and did lame games which we left early. The bars and bar staff were great as well as the all the drinks available. The pool was amazing and always had a lounge chair to relax on. Overall this resort was great. We had a nice relaxing vacation and would recommend it. It was approximately 90 minutes from the airport. A great value for a last minute trip. :)

Punta Cana Surprise: Not what We expected
The hotel was very clean. The room we got when we first arrived was very small didn't even have a bathtub. We did not like the fact that there were areas we weren't allowed to use and had to upgrade to use. We were bothered at least five times a day to go for the breakfast timeshare which we did not appreciate having to run away from people when we're on our vacation trying to relax so so not chic. The food was hit or miss I think I the whole week we had two dinners that were considered to be[... read more] good. The buffet was awful there were bugs (mosquitoes/houseflies)in the food and the service was awful: we would get up to get desert and come back to the table and dirty dishes were still there, whatever drinks we asked for we never received, some days we would sit and eat and not even get to see a waiter for drinks by the time we were done eating and time to leave. There were not enough cabanas or lounge chairs on the beach couldn't get one any day and at the pool the same way not enough places to sit. Not what we expected at all for a luxury vacation very disappointed and a waste of our money this trip.

TRS Turquesa: Excellent resort, great service
We travelled to the Royal Suites, Jan 15 - 22, 2017. This is our second time there, first time was about 5 years ago. The grounds and beach were beautiful, and the rooms, lobby areas, and walkways were spotless. There are now 2 exclusive restaurants for the Royal Suites guests, and the food was very good at both, which included lobster, scallops, shrimp etc, and several different cuts of steaks. We also ate at the Japanese tappanyaki restaurant, which was also very good. We went to the nigh[... read more]tly entertainment in the smaller theater and it was very good, then to the lobby bar at the Royal Suites. The entertainment there was more of a piano type bar scene, but very good. The bartenders, Juan and Mabel could make any drink you could think of, and were very attentive and friendly. I don't think I have had that good service at any other resort. If I had any negatives for our trip, it was that you had to get up at 5:15am - 5:30am to put a towel down on the chairs and palapa hut to reserve it, before they were taken. If you went to the pool or beach after 6:00am, all of the chairs were reserved, even though there are signs that you couldn't do this. Some people reserved spots around the pool and beach, and moved back and forth throughout the day, taking up 2 spaces. Over all, we think that this was one of the best trips we have ever had.

Catalonia Bavaro Resort: Absolutely Wonderful
The Catalonia Bavaro resort bypassed our expectations. We spent a week there from Jan 18 to 25th. The rooms were spacious, very clean, bed was comfortable, lots of towels, and fridge was fully stocked. Everything about this resort was wonderful. The lobby, pool area, beach had an abundant of chairs so there was always seating. Love that you did not have to book the specialty restaurants and there was no issue at all getting in to them....we did all 4 and they were all amazing....I would gi[... read more]ve every area a 5 plus in every way. Last but not least the staff were the best, always friendly, polite and willing to go out of their way to do anything they could to make our stay a memorable one...and not just to get a tip. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone interested in going to a Punta Cana and will definitely return...thanks for a great vacation!

Bahia Principe Explore Esmeralda: "Grand" is right!
Luxury Grand Bahia Principe Esmeralda is one of about 5 resorts combined on this property rooming over 3000 people that all share the same beachfront. Lifestyle Tropical Beach Resort: Not all hotel rooms are created equal
We traveled as a group of 12 adults and 2 toddlers and availed a total of 6 rooms at the Lifestyle Tropical Resort. My friend and I, both have toddlers in tow, were assigned in Building#1. Rooms were dated which I can live with and was actually able to tolerate.
However, the water pipes in the toilet when you flush makes a loud noise afterwards, comparable to that of a pipe about to burst. I called for the maintenance 3 times. First on our first night soon after we checked in and got settled[... read more] in our room. I didn't know what it was and was afraid that it would actually burst. The toilet made that sound every time we flushed the toilet the whole time we were there. We tolerated that...it goes away after a couple of minutes. Second call was on our final evening, after using the toilet, the noise wouldn't go away for over 30mins and it was already 2am, it got so loud it woke up my daughter! Lastly, I called for the maintenance because the blow dryer, which is provided in the hotel room, all of a sudden had sparks flying while I was using it and almost burned some of my hair!
Water pressure was on and off, and sometimes no hot water which was an issue bathing a 2 year old.
Our other friends got rooms at buildings #2 and #3 and they're a bit newer in some essence. No water pressure or temperature issue or loud noises on the pipes after using the toilet.
Also, on our last day, we were provided a "hospitality suite" to change and get ready as we had to check out of our hotel rooms at 12noon, but our flight was not until later in the evening. One of the rooms we got as a "hospitality suite" is on Building#5, and it's a lot newer!!! Newer everything.
I am not sure how the room assignment are given during booking but if you can ask your travel agent to at least avoid Building#1.
The resort is nice and clean. Lots of pools. Cabanas in the VIP beach area is amazing. Food is delicious...check out Belini, Italian restaurant, for one of your a la carte dinners. Housekeeping does a good job in cleaning our hotel room all the time. Staffs are attentive, friendly and accommodating.
Overall, the resort is good. Just the rooms.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Viva wyndham v heaven review
Overall, great hotel for relaxing! We are 27 and came out there to get married. Couple things to note. The staff are amazing!!! I lost my insulin pens on our flight in and the staff were exceptional to make sure I found a pharmacy to get needles. Took hours but they did everything they could. Was so thankful! We were sorta skeptical of the "animation staff" at first because they made rude comments to my fiance. Plus they seemed like they belonged at a strip club how they grinder on peole. Howeve[... read more]r, some were very friendly once you talked to them. Regardless we referred to them as the dominican "s club 7" the whole time we were there and avoided their presence. We went to relax not to have people in little to nothing to wear constantly in our face trying to us to do the ymca. Maybe for older couples they were awesome but not for us. Food at sofritas was awesome and most buffets. The other restaurants were so so. Chicken club for room service!! Rooms were clean and Maids did a good job (even though they walked in at 9 am sometimes, do not disturb signs might be helpful). You may be disappointed with the rooms at first sight because what people determine as 5 star here may not be the same there. There were chips, cracks, few stains but gotta keep in mind where you are. If your a couple deciding to get married on this resort though , Def 5+. The photographer is amazzzing (highly recommended) and so are the staff who put it together. Would recommend in that regard. The resort felt safe but if you are someone looking to party hard this place is not for you. Cheers! Ps we got very sick coming home careful of the food!!

Riu Merengue: Good resort
The front desk never did send a blanket to my room
The maid only did her job 100 percent if you left a tip.
(We didn't one day becaise we couldn't get small bills so she didn't give us any towels....and to add insult to injury, she even took the Swan towel that we kept by the bed)
the food was good
The entertainment was not.
No swim up pool bar
Dirty patrons that leave their cups and garbage all over the beach /poolside
Bar service is great and quick if you have a dollar in your hand
[... read more]Beach was nice ...not cleaned/raked in my 7 day stay

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Ladies' Week
Blue Bay Villas Doradas is a lovely place for a vacation. Our room was large, clean and airy as we had windows around a corner. The grounds are lovely and the food is good with the vegetables done to perfection every time. The 3 a la cartes served delicious food and the service was efficient and courteous. Because this is a smaller resort the "animation" team supplied much of the entertainment with professional dancers showing up a couple of times. There a 2 pools - one with lots of activity a[... read more]nd a swim-up bar and another located in a quiet corner with soft music and a coffee machine. We were at the beach most of the time, lounging, swimming and walking. The staff is friendly and courteous. All in all, a very nice resort and a short bus ride from the airport.
The all-inclusive format is great, though I could live without the constant tipping. Resort was very nice, but the rooms need upgrading. TV and phone didn't work properly. Construction in the room above was an unwelcome wake-up call for two of the days, and the world's loudest weed-whacker took care of the other mornings. Staff were mostly friendly, with the occasional grump sneaking in. Entertainment was better than I expected, and the restaurants were excellent. Veteran travellers I talked to [... read more]generally gave it a 6 out of 10 compared to similarly priced resorts.

Majestic Colonial Punta Cana Beach Resort: Great vacation
This was our third trip to the Majestic Colonial in the DR. It is the oldest of three connected resorts; the Colonial, Majestic Elegance and the Majestic Mirage (which opened just recently). Being the oldest means that the rooms may have some issues with tired decor but it also means that the grounds have had time to mature into a beautiful and lush landscape. We walked around the other resorts and they are very nice, but the Colonial offers better value for your money in our view.
We spend [... read more]very little time in our room except to sleep in their very comfortable beds. Why be indoors when the pool and beach areas are so beautiful? No need to bring blow driers, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes etc. as they are provided and replenished daily. There is also a well stocked fridge with beverages and a coffee pot for an early morning brew in your room.
There are plenty of sunny and shady areas to sit, no worries about having to get up early to secure lounges as happens often at other resorts. The beach area is beautiful, powdery sand and turquoise water with lots of seating available.
We have stayed at both the Colonial club adults only section and on the side for families. You will get some extra perks (two private pools, butler service, access to the Club house, etc.) in the adults only side, but for us this year, we found the extras unnecessary and were happy to do without. The main pool here is so large (and beautiful) that you never feel crowded. The adults only pool areas tended to get noisy as more alcohol was consumed!
We found the food to be better on each trip, which indicates their willingness to improve their service and listen to customer recommendations. We ate at the buffet most nights as there were more options and less chance of being served food you might not like.
We love this resort because it is large enough to never feel crowded but small enough that you can walk everywhere comfortably. The staff are friendly, helpful and accommodating and work hard to ensure your comfort. I think it is the ideal place for a quiet and peaceful vacation. There is plenty to do if you are so inclined, but if you are looking for a party-like atmosphere this resort would not be your first choice.
One other thing! My husband likes the fact that the resort is not too far from the airport (about half hour away). We fly Air Transat and they provide transportation to and from the resort which is great.

TRS Cap Cana Hotel: Beautiful location
The hotel is lovely. Grounds are well tended and look beautiful. The vistas looking out over the pools and bridge towards the water are amazing.
The pools are great.
The beach area is very small but quite pretty.
The entertainment was great and mostly at the Alsol Luxury.
The dining was passable but not five star.
The hospitality staff were friendly.
The room was fine, spacious and the balcony had a nice view.
Housekeeping was not good.

The Level Adult at the Melia Caribe Tropical resort is a great place to relax while on holiday. The staff is outstanding especially Jose Minaya our butler he definitely made things happen. He never ceased to amaze us. Jose surprised us with a horse and buggy ride for our special dinner. The food was very good at all of the restaurants we went too. This was our second visit we would go back for a third. Cheers Linda &Alan
