Barcelo Maya Colonial: Very nice resort

From the flight with Air Transat to and from was on time and we had the Option Plus , so we had something to eat , wine and chocolate bar and blanket ,neck rest and special line to check in and extra baggage allowed. Quick friendly check in The Barceló Colonial Jalisco Bldg. Are room was close to the beach. Great maid service and fridge replacement service 5 * Cleanliness on Resort 5* Buffet at Colonial 4* Buffet in evening at Caribe and Maya Beach are new and enclosed now with  [... read more]A/C 5* appearance( but food 3.5 * ) food cold on 2 occasions and overcrowded because they shut down half of the area. We stayed 2 weeks had Distinctive Group and had 10 A La Carts. Atmosphere compared to anyplace where we live is a 5*. Maybe we were lucky but I enjoyed every A La Carte. We had to cancel dessert on 2 occasions because I was so full. Very nice updates We went to Barceló Palace Supper Buffet . Food was better than the other buffets. Beach is one of the best in the area on Maya beach side. They are trying to cater to people. They had pool side service and sometimes beach service for drinks. Entertainment on Colonial section is hit and miss Great, M. Jackson Show and Circus , Fantasia Show.Maybe they could have some daytime entertainment . They have extra things to do at an extra charge, bowling, surf rider,casino, premium alcohol. But its there if you want it , we did not this time , Maybe next time. I think the Barceló continues to keep up with the consumers demands., you get what you pay for . Overall a 5* experience . We came home a little spoilt and heavier. A Great Vacation!

Canto Del Sol: Great Resort

The resort was clean the food was great and the service was very friendly. If you are looking for a place to sit and relax and play so Tennis put this one on your list. The beach is small yet quite. Nice location if you want to walk into the old part of town. Need to amp up the night time shows a bit but still entertaining and good for a laugh.

Secrets Huatulco: WE LOVE SECRETS, HUATULCO

Having enjoyed our first stay at this amazing resort back in March of 2016, my husband and I decided to treat our 4 adult children (and their partners) to a Christmas vacation. From the moment we arrived on December 16 we knew we had made the right choice. The wonderful staff greeted us with a cool face towels and cocktails and our check in process was quick (the way I had remembered it). All, but one ("Oceana') of the restaurants served delicious meals and there were plenty of 'gluten and dairy free' options for my daughter. Plenty of poolside and beachside activities, along with tennis, nature walks, etc. provided plenty of things to do for everyone. The Spa is outstanding and I'm sure the experience was one that we will all remember for quite some time. Thank you Secrets for not disappointing us. I'm sure we will be back :)

Friendly Fun Vallarta: Amazing

We had an amazing stay at the resort. The staff was amazing, the grounds were beautiful. The food ahhh so yummy. Lots of activities, we brought my 90 year old grandmother and she also loved it. Can't wait to go back❤❤❤

Iberostar Waves Cozumel: Ok Resort

Hotel grounds were nice. Only complaint was that the ventilation system was on a motion sensor so that when you left the room the a/c turned off. This would result in your clothes and your bedding became damp because of the humidity. Food was ok.

Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya: Fantastic resort

Grounds well maintained. All the staff where very friendly and gave excellent service. Exceptional rooms and room service done wonderfully. My third time at this resort and it keeps getting better. Will be returning next year.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Fabulous stay ...again!

My husband and I just returned from 7 days in paradise. It hurt our hearts to leave! Fabulous service, fabulous food, drink and beach. This hotel does not disappoint! The only fault I would mention is that rooms are beginning to show their age, but that's minor compared to the overall experience

Riu Dunamar: Great trip

Clean, brand new. Excellent place to go for a vacation. Food was great, the beach was very clean. Would go again and wish I could of stayed even longer! Good place for families with small kids. The staff are always ready to help with anything and do a great job of maintaining the resort.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: Amazing time at Ocean Riviera Paradise -Privilege

Resort was wonderful! Privilege was worth every penny. Our butler,Ariz, took amazing care of us. We highly recommend the resort and the upgrade to privilege. Beautiful beach, beautiful resort and awesome service.

Canto Del Sol: Excellent 3-3.5 star resort near the downtown (for more luxury, go elsewhere and pay a lot more!)

We spent a week at the Canto del Sol in mid-December. This is a very nice, fairly small 3 or 3.5 star resort for the price. Along with the Buenaventura, it is one of the two best-rated mid-level resorts located near the downtown. The pool is moderately sized (but there is also a “luxury” pool with few people along with a large kiddy pool, out back, beside the indoor tennis courts). Kevin of the activity staff does an excellent water aerobics class at noon. More generally, staff were cons [... read more]istently fun and nice (front desk, guest services, waiters, etc.). The beach is small and rocky, though it looks directly west – fantastic views as the sun goes down. A reminder for guests – salaries are low in Mexico and you really should tip – rooms, food, bar service… (we probably tipped about 80-100 pesos per day in all - equivalent to 5-8 CAD, or US $4- $6. Best to tip in pesos, though USD are ok too). Guests have an hour per day tennis (with rackets and balls provided), but you should reserve early at the gym. Rooms – we were in ocean-facing rooms in the middle on the 3rd floor (I think the 4th floor is mostly time-share). One of our rooms had a balcony, the other not (ask for a balcony when you reserve!). Good beds, shower pressure, decent flat-screen TV (with only a couple English-language channels and no French), and an electronic safe included. This is an older resort with fairly renovated rooms, but don’t expect Hyatt or Hilton luxury (for that, expect to pay more for a higher-end resort). Rooms on the 2nd floor center would have blocked views, though they’d be fine from the side wings of the resort as long as you faced the pool. Cheaper rooms that do not fact the pool area would not be as nice. It is easy to get downtown – about 80 pesos taxi to the centro (around 120 pesos to the south side) or just walk out to the main street 100 m away and hop on a bus listed centro (7.5 pesos per person) or, for the southside only, tunel. You could walk to the northern edge of the Malecon in about 35-40 minutes, along the road (not real interesting) or along the beach in front of other resorts, though at times you might get your feet wet and have to clamber over rocks. Also at the main street intersection there are two banks with ATM machines - safe places to withdraw money, and a block further down that street towards the centro is a Mega very large supermarket – a good place to buy tequila… The buffet food was pretty good, especially considering the cost of the resort – the dinner menu changes every day, but always has a Mexican area (quesadillas…), a pasta bar area and good salad, fruit and dessert choices. We tried two of the three specialty restaurants. The Italian one was IMHO excellent while the Surf and Turf was very ordinary. House wine by the glass (red, white and I think bubbly) was free and better than in most AI resorts, though in the specialty restaurants you can also pay for a bottle with several options. They try to accommodate vegetarians in all restaurants, although it is good to advise the guest services desk of you diet upon arrival – they will help some when needed if you can’t find what you need. At the bars, you can request higher quality alcohols (but you'd likely have more luck if you speak in Spanish) – again, a better quality than we had for free at several other resorts (Fiesta Americana, Holiday Inn, etc.). Evening entertainment was sometimes campy and not really professional – as is the case in most other AI resorts. Only the early evening mariachi band on the Mexican evening was of real professional quality. We ate out twice and I’d really suggest others do too – PV has too many good restaurants (plus places with live music in the evenings) to remain prisoner of your AI resort. We ate at two exceptionally good upper-scale but not outrageously priced places – Barcelona Tapas (get there early – fantastic views of sunset over the town especially from the top floor) and the River Café on the Isla Cual. Neither is a health-food restaurant per se - more foodie places - but both had a lot of choices for vegetarians (at the River Café, request their separate vegetarian menu). We also had drinks and appetizers at Casa Isabel - extraordinary views over the town and really moderately priced for very good food and drinks. For good restaurants, the hotel guest services can make reservations. For weekly evening music entertainment in town listed for every day of the week, look at the event listings on the vallartainfo website - a website that also has excellent maps and other info. Would we go back? Maybe – this is a real good place for the price if you are looking for a family-friendly AI resort close to all that the downtown. If I return alone, I’d opt for a non-AI place like the Tropicana or a rented apartment in the center, to better enjoy all the area has to offer.

Grand Palladium Vallarta: Second time this year!

We first stayed at the Grand Palladium in April of 2017 and went back with family on Dec 14th for another week in the sun. All the renovations are done with a lot of the resort looking renewed and fresh. An added bonus this time was that we were able to access the Royal pool area and Nest restaurant. Special thanks to Heriberto and Carlos - hard working guys who always made sure we had a cold cocktail all the time - they made our days down at the pool - Gracias Amigos! Martin and princess Teress [... read more]a at the Nest always had us sit at the best view table and made sure we had everything we needed.The Zentropia Spa was again a hit with the ladies and if they could, they would have gone every day. Sunset dinner at the Mexican rest was a wonderfull open air experience and Jannet again making the freshest guacamole right at the table should not be missed - and I dont like avacados, but I ate this up. The Bambu Japanese rest was not my favorite but different tastes for everyone. Ribs and Steaks had an awesome filet and it would have been easy to eat another except you were full. Portofino Italian hasn't changed much except the salad bar is gone and a pizza oven is in its place - the menu is a bit confusing - if you order a meat entree it does not tell you that potatoes are included - be careful and don't order pasta to go with it because you will get two full meals. The rooms (deluxe) are basic but nice - we were in 3217 and had a lovely ocean view, but its in need of some upgrading - the shower taps need replacing, the shower glass lets water all over the floor and the jet tub is missing all the jets. All you really need is a decent shower. Our cousins paid for an upgraded room after spending one night in a deluxe and said it was worth it. Hemmingways bar used to be a nice quiet retreat, but now its hard to speak in there because it seems to be the party bar and it has lost its quiet ambience - thanks to Jessica and Manny for remembering our drinks every night. We would go back again, but you need to know that its a bit out of the way if you want to leave the resort, then its a cab ride or a rattle bus - we go to relax and dont need to leave because we have done Puerto Vallarta a few times - all in all we enjoy this resort.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: 4 star resort

GOOD: Good rooms, clean resort, good transportation within the resort, no annoing beach sellers, no annoing time share sellers. Big resort, feels safe, good green grounds. Plenty of beach umbrellas, adults only zones, some very secluded areas on the beach for quiet sleep. BAD: Food is just ok: always something to eat, but poor selection of meat, fish and cheese (no beef, pork is always dry, fried chicken, fish was often absent or offered in 1-2 cheap choices like tilapia, only 2 to 4 kinds of [... read more] basic cheese). Restaurants offer less veriety then 5star should, and tasted so so. Brazilian restaurant was a joke - food and service - both crap. Beach is long (~3km) and mostly clean - great for walking, but swimming is poor - just 3-4 areas where you can actually enter without breaking a leg and only 1 small area where adults could swim without touching the rocks. 1 area is great for kids up to 10y.o. (its about 50m x 50m and only 1m deep, so kids can learn to swim there safely). No snorkelling anywhere. Minimum 1.5hr drive from the airport. VERDICT For $1,300 CAD per person in low season it does not worth it. If you are a foody or a swimmer - look elsewhere. Otherwise you are ok here. Note on the same shore: Sirenis offers better food and better swim for less money; Barcello offers much better food and much better swim, similar rooms and resort amenities for the same money. Ocean Riviera Paradise: Great Resort!!

Beautiful brand new resort with lots to do for everyone! Food was amazing and there were tonnes of options... Seems like a really great resort for families as well since there are lots for kids and adults to do. Wasn't a big fan of always trying to up sell on better liquor or wine at the restaurants, but I suppose that is how they make more money. I also thought that the spa was overpriced for what it is (the massages on the beach were much better). Ocean Coral Riviera Cancun: Wonderful Experience!

Lovely atmosphere, friendly service. Beautiful beaches and pools with drink services to each. Getting into restaurants for dinner was quite the wait but worth it once you’re in! Nightly entertainment was okay, some nights better than others.

Marival Emotions Resort and Suites Riviera Nayarit: Great Family Resort

Well kept grounds. Nice pools. Good variety of restaurants, good food and drinks. Need to change entertainment up, been the same for a long time. Fabulous beach front. Tennis, water aerobics, boogie boarding, lots of activity. Biggest negative was time share pressure, hold your ground. But Great price and value of vacation makes up for it.

This was my second stay and everything was as good as the first time Great staff, very clean and food were all great. I found no negatives about this resort. Would go back again. Definetely would recommend to friends.

Barcelo Maya Caribe: Very Disappointing!

We could have just as easily gone to Las Vegas. The buildings were all shiny and glitzy. Definitely nice but just not Mexican. Positves: The food was plentiful. The drinks were good and at some bars they had premium brands. The beach was very nice. The room was comfortable and quiet. We were immediately checked into our room and they put my son and his wife across the hall. Staff was pleasant but not friendly. When we entered our room there was an overwhelming odour of must and mold. I called the front desk and asked if they could put a deodorizer in and they sent someone right away. I would have asked for another room but my son had already unpacked and I wanted to be near them. It was better for one day and then the smell was back the next day. I asked for a refresh again and once again they responded immediately however once again it only lasted one day. We decided that since we were not in the room much and it was not hot we would live with it and open windows when we could. WIFI was only available at very limited 2 times during the day and only in a small area of the shopping mall. Not even enough places to sit. We were given coupons to be used to reserve our meals at some of the special restaurants. We went to the guest services right away the next morning and we were not able to get our meals at any suitable dining times (either 5 pm or 9 pm) too early or too late. Went back a few times to see if there were a cancellation but we were only able to get one at the Mexican one and the Japanese one. At the Mexican one there were many empty chairs (more than 10 and no one came in to fill them. At the Japanese one there are supposed to be 12 chairs around the chef and he puts on a show. The fun in that was to be interacting with the other 8 people in the group but the 4 of us were alone. Once again a disappointing expereince. There was also an unpleasant altercation with our server and my daughter-in-law over the sake she bought for us. Really ruined the evening. So we had to eat all the rest of our meals in the buffet. There was lots of selections but all the food was either luke warm or downright cold. We started to just eat the food that was supposed to be cold. There was only 2 places to eat - the main buffet or the lunch only beach buffet. Very limited selection and once again COLD. I started to live on soup. There was another place called the Sports bar. It was mainly appetizers and snacks. It was a sports bar (surprise) and very noisy. There was no place to get a late night snack or drink because everything closed early (11 pm.) The beach chairs were plentiful and the sand was lovely however I was not expecting so many stones and rocks to get into the water. Water was clear and lots of fish swimming around. The water sports were too far away up the beach and mainly snorkeling. If there were any activities during the day we were not aware of them because we were not informed of anything. There was a main stage in the lobby of the outdoor shopping mall. They lasted about an hour and it was a surprise every day. They just set up folding chairs in the open hall. However the weather was very cold for 3 days and I had no winter clothes so sitting outside stopped many folks. We were thinking it would be fun to have so many activities available but everything cost extra. All in all a very disappointing week. Even if we had paid less it still would have been a failure but for the price we paid even a worse experience. We will continue to go to Mexico but certainly not this one!

Catalonia Playa Maroma: Great resort, 5 stars service

Unfortunately because of construction noise beside room 5118 we asked to be transferred to another room. Due to overbooking the hotel manager transferred us to Catalonia Royal Tulum which was great too. No fooling around they called and paid a taxi to the hotel and gave us Privilege guests and massages for free. Wow what a service. We want to go back to Catalonia Playa Maroma because we did not have enough time to appreciate this hotel. We recommend this chain of resort very much. Riu Santa Fe: Fabulous Resort

Beautifully kept resort. Lots to do. Or do nothing at all and just relax by the pool. Many pools to choose from. Lots of activities to do if you choose to. Loved the evening shows. The buffet restaurant was my favourite. I will definitely be back.

Ocean Riviera Paradise: I had a great time.

I love this resort. The staffs were friendly, the room was big and clean. Food was good, we got to eat at a-la-carte restaurants every night. The food at the Daisy snack bar was excellent. My kids loved it. They enjoyed eating while swimming very much. The shows were good too. I loved the bowling. This is absolutely a 5-star resort. The only thing that I did not like about the resort was the beach. The beach was beautiful but there was a lot of rocks, but there is nothing we can do about it.  [... read more] Overall, this was an amazing all-inclusive trip.
