Interesting place. It's giant resort. Like 4 different ones that you can access. The time share game is real here. They'll find you walking around and tell you they forgot to give your welcome package (it's to sell you a timeshare) just tell them you already got it. At the buffets, the cooks serve you, still in COVID mode I guess....oh and golf carts... Golf carts everywhere lol. You're basically sharing the resort with rich people who time share villas there so they're driving around all the ti[... read more]me. All in all its a beautiful resort, the staff are very nice and friendly.would definitely consider coming back one day.

Playabachata Hotel: Good value
It was clean, bed comfortable. Needs some updates. A absolutely no servers at pool nor bars. Had to get your own drinks. Buffet selection limited however tasted good. Buffet room very understaffed. A la carte not worth the time. Pestered a lot by reps regarding timesharea for Senator resort.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Great staff
As usual, the staff at Gran Ventana was welcoming and helpful. The resort is still not full, so alacarte restaurants were easy to book and the Vintage Club was excellent! Food was hot and tasty and plentiful ! A slight water issue was handled quickly and a bit of rain but otherwise another great trip .
Kudos to all

Playabachata Hotel: Terrible
Ground were well maintained. Food was way to salty and plain. Services was very poor. Plastic Cups were being washed and reused. Never seen this in any resort before. I would not recommend this resort to anyone.

Viva Heavens by Wyndham: Amazing Resort
The hotel is beautiful and relaxing. The staff from the front desk to the beach and everyone in between go above and beyond to make your stay the best it can be. The restaurants and food presentations are top notch. Everything is clean. All staff wore masks, hand sanitizer and temperature monitoring at all restaurants. Looking forward to returning when they reopen after renovation.

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Fail
My experience with the staff at Cofresi Palm Beach Spa Resort was horrible. If this is to be a 4* hotel, i would expect it to be significantly better.
I have stayed in various countries around the world, but this was by far my worst experience. The staff was rude.
When asking for for assistance from guest services or the reception counter, they would state that they cannot do it and to return the following day. On one instance I was told by Paula at the reception desk to return at 430p; w[... read more]hen I arrived at 3p she took forever to resolve my matter, and when 4p arrived she stated that her shift had ended and she passed me off to her coworker. If I had shown up at 430p as originally directed, she would not have been there, and my issue would have NOT have been even reviewed.
There is no service at this venue. One would think that if you have a bar located near the main lobby that there would be servers walking around, asking if you need anything, clearing up tables etc. Not one server is to be found. This is a great place for the staff to make tips. If a server is walking around they would get some form of tip on every round. Why is not a service being provided. Even if you do not want to hire more people for that, you could have one of the bar tenders do this, vs them standing behind the bar watching the screen or being on their phones. The tables were not cleared of garbage until the following morning, cups were all over the area. This is not what I call 4* resort appearance. There was the SAME garbage all around the edge of the pool on the upper level.
The rooms were average in the area designated for locals and anyone who is NOT American. There are no screen's on the patio doors, or windows. Leaving you in a position to keep the rooms closed, in fear of bugs coming into the rooms. The bathtubs were scratched up and not sealed around the faucet, tap and other parts of the tub and sinks. Not once was the counter in the bathroom ever cleaned once we arrived. If you have a king bed in your room then you have the honour of having a wardrobe and two side tables to store your belongings. If you have 2 doubles, are to resort to keeping your stuff in your luggage, as there is only 1-2 side tables and no dresser. It should also be listed that with the rooms there is no safe. You are required to rent a lock for the safe for the time you are there. This does not make foreigner feel that their passport and other personal belongings are secure.
If you put the towels on the ground to be changed during the cleaning service, you were not guaranteed to get the same number of hand or face towels once the cleaning service was done with your room. Normally one has 1 body towel, 1 hand towel, and 1 face clothe per a person in the room. One day we had 2 hand and face towels, the next we had 1 hand towel, and another 1 hand and one face. There is simply no consistency.
I understand that there is always different smells when visiting a new hotel. But to constantly be slapped in the face with the stench of sewers that were around the property was horrible. We visited the other resorts as we had access to them. This property of the Lifestyle family was the only one with this rank smell lingering around its pathways. Remember, I have stated I have travelled all over the world, and this stench was not a pleasant one.
Should you have a physical disability or children where you require to use a stroller. This is NOT a hotel for you. There are over 100 steps leading from the lobby to the beach. Yes there is a bus that circulates through, of which they state is to come every 30m. But it is more like per an hour. Should you need to get to your rooms, you will need to take the stairs to get there, as you are NOT a VIP with Air Transat. VIPs get a golf cart which enables you to drive where ever you need to with ease.
What would be very helpful, is that at the base of each stair, leading to another level of the hotel there was a map of where we were. Because there are so many stairs, and paths, one might think they are taking a short walk to their destination,, but they are taking a long convoluted route. As one is NOT walking around with their paper map all the time.
As this resort has the bulk of its guest come for the weekend. The Pearl buffet is only open for breakfast & lunch on Fridays through Sundays. There is NO signage to indicate that you have the option to visit the restaurant by the beach for those meals. We only found this out, as another guest had told us we can go there. Otherwise we were taking the shuttle to the Buffet Casablanca at the next LifeStyle resort.
The staff in the restaurants were wonderful. The only thing that I can say was that they did not wear their masks properly. Some wore it as a chin strap, others as a mouth guard. Once again, consistency. If the staff are required to wear it then they should be wearing it correctly.
I would rate this a 2-3star .... definitely not a 4 star

Playabachata Hotel: A great deal
This was our first trip since the very beginning of the pandemic, January 2020. We booked the trip for just over one thousand dollars and noticed that the prices for the same trip started to increase almost the next day with the lifting of covid restrictions, The resort is laid out nicely as in not cramped. The lodgings are quite attractive from the outside and the rooms are clean and spacious. Each room has a good sized veranda complete with a folding towel rack. There is one large buffet style[... read more] restaurant and a smaller burger and fries type spot during the day that does double duty as a reservation only steak house or Italian restaurant in the evening. One large pool, several large bars with short wait times, not much in the way of entertainment and several shops selling the regular tourist type stuff. The beach is very nice with tall palm trees providing plenty of shade instead of the usual small umbrellas that usually line beaches. The food is plentiful but does tend to repeat the menu a bit. Service staff are friendly and efficient. One annoying item, during the weekend, it seems like a lot of locals show up and some of them are great at butting into the food lines. Annoying. There is an extra cost Japanese style restaurant that we found tasty and entertaining, for 25$ US. Final ratings, resort-4 stars, food-3.5, rooms-4, staff-4, entertainment-1, distance from airport-4.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Great people, dated resort
The staff is fantastic. Rooms are very dated, some smell like mold.
Pool is clean and large. Very difficult to book a la cart restaurants. You need to go to the lobby and book for each day, they do not allow you to book for the remainder of your stay. By the time you get to the lobby, very long line up to book the restaurants...to be told they are now full.
There is lots of food in the buffet, but it is pretty bland.
This was my 13th time to this resort. The resort has really changed ove[... read more]r the years, not for the better.
The staff tries very hard to entertain. The issues I have are based on "corporate" or maintenance", not related to the staff.
Although I had a great vacation and met many lovely people, I would not return again to this resort.

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Amazing Resort
We booked the resort for a 7 day all inclusive trip. I have to say this is probably the best resort for a low price I have been too. It had all the facilities we were looking for and staff was attentive and friendly.
The food was great, as a vegetarian they were very accommodating and my friend who eats meat also enjoyed the food.
The resort was medium sized, with a nice large pool and common area. The rooms were great, the bathroom seemed newly renovated and was very clean! Just an odd sc[... read more]ent which I think is from the water but was bearable. Beach was okay, not the best which i think it was because of the weather - it was very windy for the days we went.
The entertainment staff was amazing, very engaging and made all the activities fun. Shout out to Chocolate, Pepsi, Wifi and Darling - they made our stay much better by hosting fun games. And everyone was so energetic!
This was our first time in Puerto Plata, definitely will visit again. Puerto Plata is less touristy compared to Punta Cana. If you are looking to do a lot of excursions then i would recommend Punta Cana as its closer to the excursion places and there are more activities to choose from.
Overall very happy with our stay and will be going again

Lifestyle Tropical Beach Resort: Some good soon bad!
At first we were put in one of the old room’s the next day we were move to a renovated room. Which was much nicer, the phone didn’t work, the toilet was broken we went to the front desk to let them know. They sent Someone right away but he didn’t fix it, so my husband fixed it.the shower leaked and the bed and pillows smelt very musty. The cement around the pools was very uneven, so much so my husband tripped on it and cut his foot pretty bad. Had to go to the doctors for care. For the res[... read more]t of the week he could not go in the water or on the beach😕😕 the food was not much better. The beach cabanas were very nice and the pool with the cave was beautiful! Playabachata Hotel: Good
The hotel was all good and had good service. I was a bit disappointed because many things in the room were falling apart. The main pool isn’t super nice but it’s all right. Overall, it’s an okay hotel and the best part is having access to the entertainment on the 5 star hotel next door. For the same price I can have a better hotel in Cuba so If I am going to Dominican Republic I would not come back here. The staff were very good however and did their best to help you.

Sunscape Puerto Plata: Great Holiday
This is our second time at this resort. Once four years ago and again March 2022. The resort is great. On the smaller end but just the right size. Staff is friendly. Rooms are clean. Food is great for everyone in the family. Lots of Canadians to meet by the swim up bar. Lots of deck chairs available around the main pool. Great value for money. I would fully recommend for families and adults alike.

Playabachata Hotel: Getting back in business
This resort Playabatchata resort is in my opinion a realistic 3.5star at the present time but it could reach 4 when maintenance completed . It has its “bigger brother “ resort : Senator which is bigger and more upscaled, omaybe a 5star one.
For Playabatchata i would take it in order:
1. Beach : very nice, fine golden sand, lots of coconut trees that makes it very scenic, lots of chairs and the sea gets deeper not far from the beach. Also is very closed to the rest of attractions like po[... read more]ols, restaurants and rooms.
2. Accommodations
Here is definitely an area of improvement because after pandemic rooms need maintenance. We changed rooms because : exhaust fan in bathroom was not working, the AC was not working, the bathroom had calking with lots of brown spots. I have to be grateful though to Paula who addressed our concerns and changed our room on the spot.
Also disappointing not to have the treatment station for water in the rooms, so tap water was not drinkable. Had to replenish the water bottles in the fridge ourselves everyday.
Food/ restaurants:
Overall OK
Nothing too fancy but enough options one can find smtgh to like: fish, pork beef always available freshly grilled, they bbq even right on the beach.
Obviously people there put an effort to please.
There i could see technical imperfection too, like the exhaust fans for kitchen hoods were not working, cooks were always sweating on the cooktops.
Staff:
Very very friendly and doing their best to please
Overall status of the resort:
I could great effort in bringing everything back to speed: they were repairing, painting, drywalling between the tourists, I don’t blame them much about that. I would be a bit concerned about the safety of the workers as they were working with not much equipment or protection while on the job.
Pool:
Outdated as style, clorine was applied manually but the “animacion†was keeping the spirits up in the area. Again, great effort by the staff there.
I woul have loved to see some batchata lessons there but there were not.

16 day stay and everything was perfect. Food and drinks were great. Lots of variety. Polite and kind people work at this resort. Beach was great and long. Venders were very good also. No pressure. We are missing our Dominican family. This was our second time and will be back next year. Thank you Iberostar for doing a fantastic job!

Playabachata Hotel: Definitely not 4*!
The hotel is VERY dated. The rooms need some serious updates, and bug control. We had a massive cockroach, like the size of a mouse in one of our rooms, the other room was on ground level and the floor was just covered in bugs.
There are no coffee makers, hair dryers, or anything you'd expect with a 4* hotel. The restaurants are very limited in food options, reminded me of Cuban buffet.
The pool is like something out of the 60s. The pretty pictures shown are actually from the hotel next [... read more]door (we did end up upgrading to go over there).
The staff is fantastic. The guys at the bar by the pool were super friendly and and fast. There is no swim up bar! The weekend, the hotel is packed with locals, which nice for culture, they were quite rude, loud and disrespectful of anyone trying to enjoy their vacation.
The
