Very disappointed that we were in a disability room that had so much mold on the walls, resort was not to capacity and still took till late wednesday afternoon to assign us a new room. Told us they would send a bellhop to help us move and no one showed up, we carried everything on our own to a non disability room. Not one apology

Catalonia Riviera Maya: Wouldn't go back
There are better options. They weren't accommodating and options weren't great. You have to do reservations for dinner and it was always booked. Would never go back. I've been at many other resorts and the food option and service has been much better

Riu Palace Kukulkan: Love this smaller Riu
We enjoyed our time the the Riu Kukulkan…the grounds are easy to get around, restaurants all good LOS…. We booked an elite room and easy to make all our reservations with the app! Be aware they have 8 floors of Elite.. Our Elite room was a bit of a disappointment as the bathroom is poorly designed…. Separate toilet, shower a sinks are “open Concept”. With a very large bathtub in the middle of the room…. Also governer on the TV for volume. Doesn’t go up or down.. all rooms at front face ente[... read more]rtainment stage, so it can be very noisy for awhile if you are in your room! The elite lounge was a let down, small and far away from main lobby, club chairs that take a lot of space…. We loved the Elite pool with Beds available for no charge!

Catalonia Playa Maroma: Very good deal. Smaller resort with beautiful beach, good food.
Rooms and public areas were clean, well taken care of. The coatis own the place but they're harmless. However, look out for the monkeys.
Food was usually v. good in the a la carte restaurants but could be improved at buffet. The service at the buffet could be better as well.
English is not as widely spoken as other resorts we've been to, but not a problem.
Tipping didn't seem to be expected as many other resorts.
No need to "claim" a spot early by the pool or beach with towel like some other[... read more]s, lots available.
We upgraded to Privileged; it was worth it given the proximity of the Bloved restaurant to the beach and the food and service.
We've been there three times and would definitely go back again.

GR Solaris: Great resort
The hotel and grounds were very clean and well looked after. We didn't try the restaurants, the buffet was good. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The beach was beautiful, but the water could get very rough, but the life guards were right there making sure everyone stayed safe. The lady at the omelette station was amazing.

Great friendly and helpful service. Really enjoyed the food. A beautiful smaller resort. No foam parties, swim up bar, or constant racket. A more civilized and enjoyable experience catering to a better crowd of people than most.

Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya: Amazing Resort
The layout of resort is excellent! Blending in the natural environment with the buildings and walkways.
All the staff were genuinely friendly at all times, making us feel right at home! Our room was always kept clean and the fridge fully stocked every day with what we wanted and bed was very comfortable. The a la cartes were very good and the foods were all professionally prepared and tasted great! The Imperial Band was fantastic and the lady singer was unbelievable. One of our nightly st[... read more]ops was Don Miguel's. The piano player was excellent and am now hooked on Dry Vodka Martini's. Overall I would and have highly recommended this resort and can not wait until we are back next year.

Melia Casa Maya: Children only resort
This hotel caters to families with small children ONLY. Although we knew it was not an "adults only" resort, we chose the "Level" option thinking it would give us some exclusive lounging and dining opportunities. WRONG!! Everyone took the option, including families of 5(majority). The property description implied a separate area on the beach for "Level" guests. Not so...there were a few labelled palapas interspersed within the rest of them. The "level" dining room was packed for breakfast and lu[... read more]nch everyday. You get a concierge assigned to you who arranges a reserved palapa for you..but again...not in a separate area.
The hotel is very small with no auditorium or theater...so the children spend the evening hours running around screaming in the main lobby....cant have a nice peaceful after dinner drink.
The buffet is an absolute nightmare..smallest I have ever seen. Very limited food selection. And, hold on to your plate...the kids are running around unleashed!!
Also, don't expect a good steak in any of the a la cartes. They are tasteless..not char broiled, seem like they are boiled. Difficult to tell what kind of meat it was.
One very disturbing issue is the lack of security on the beach. On weekends, the locals tend to head to the public beach which is directly adjacent to the hotel. This would be OK if hotel security was around to keep an eye on our stuff while in the water. Instead, locals walked freely amongst the hotel palapas and chairs. One hotel rep stood chatting with these folks for hours. I realize MOST of the locals are good people just enjoying the beach....but it would only take one bad apple to lead to disaster...especially with all the kids around.
Overall, not a good experience...not a good choice unless you are traveling with infants and toddlers....teens would be bored.
Finally, the room accommodation was a joke. One small 4 drawer dresser and small hanging bar. I dont know how all these families managed with little storage. No chair or couch to sit on. Housekeeping had a very hard time providing the same number of towels daily...something missing everyday.
Wish I could get my money back.

Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun: Good at best
Spent a week in November 2025. Not the greatest hotel! It lacked quality of food and service was not great. Bartenders couldn’t make a consistent drink taste the same. The grounds are clean and rooms clean. The pool was alright, obtaining a chair is difficult as you can get an unlimited amount of towels so everyone just places the towel and leaves for the day to reserve them. Service around pools was poor and require frequent tipping for returning.
All night room service is great but what is t[... read more]he point with very limited poor food options and taste. Al a cartes difficult too book on the app. We had a swim up non diamond club and it was the best part of our stay.
Absolute worse part is you can only use their taxi services to go anywhere. You cannot use transit or Uber as they are not allowed on resort. It’s a very very far walk to the main gate if you wish to go to Cancun or the mall etc. their price was $130usd return for a 20 min ride there.
They should have daily shuttle service complimentary or even for affordable cost at very minimum to the gate.
The rooms have a weird capacity to amplify hallway noise and room service carts run all night if your a light sleeper good luck!
The beach was ok as was the water. The lazy river is by far the coldest water ever, and you need to bring your own tubes they have like 5 in total. The cost on site for a tube is $50usd overall not a pleasant stay.

Bahia Principe Explore Tulum: Fantastic place for families with younger kids
This resort was absolutely amazing if you are a family with kids under 12. Between the water park at Coba, plus the one on site at Tulum, there was always something for the kids to do. Couple that with the amazing number of activities for kids, and the entertainment, our kids were constantly excited and playing. The buffet food was also absolutely incredible for a resort, with some great variety and choices at every meal.
Probably the only downside is how far away this resort is from the airp[... read more]ort (over an hour drive) so I would highly advise booking a private transfer if you can afford it.
I would not choose this resort if I wasn't with my kids, but if you're with family you can't go wrong with Bahia Principe.

Riu Palace Pacifico: very disappointed.
2nd visit. loved it the 1st time Aug/2024, loved the nice quiet relaxed ambiance. very noisy and rody this time. w food bad everywhere. crab claws at buffet was tasteless and meat was mushy. steakhouse either overcooked all the meat, or it was extemely salty. only saving grace was Jonathan A's singing/piano at nite in the lobby. but it was mostly drowned out by all the loud noise and rowdiness. The whole vibe of the place was completely different (good food and quiet and relaxed vibe). th[... read more]e reason for our loving this resort was gone. haven't decided if was wanted to be back.

Wyndham Alltra Playa del Carmen: Loved this place

Royalton CHIC Cancun: Do not be fooled by the name, this is not close to a 5 Star teaort
Where do you start, after traveling all day and then waiting at the airport for over 1 hr for Nexus to take us to our hotel, once we finally got there, we checked in and was told that the 2nd part of the check in was to meet a rep with a pink Royalton shirt on, it ended up being a Salerep from Royalton trying to up-sale us, finally I said, we are tired and just want to go to our room.
Once in our room, we were surprised how worn it was, we had the Sunset view which is a parking lot and a torn [... read more]building to look at. I leaned on the balcony rail to only find out that it was not safe. When I checked to see why, I noticed it was not screwed in at all to the wall .
Elevators are very slow, so leave plenty of time to get somewhere .
Ok, I went to use the internet only to find out that they spelled my name wrong so I could not get into the Wi-Fi unless I used the wrong spelling, after numerous visit to the check in, they told me I would have to see their IT dept, long story short, after 4 days of our holidays, they finally change it.
Now, there is really only one main pool and by 10am the 20 and 30 year olds are at the swim up bar, and not leaving for most of the day, so we found the water was spelling by mid afternoon.
We did go on the top floor for a look, but just witness more partying and 70’s disco music blaring.
Ok, on the plus side, the Beach is amazing, the staff works hard, but they seem to be short staffed , the food was reasonable, but not great for a 5 Star rating.
You have to download the app in order to reserve you dinner and I suggest first thing in the morning to make your reservation , also, you cannot book more then 2 reservations, also the menu is a QR Code that you have to put on your phone, so if you are not good with modern technology, you might get frustrated.
Room service is not everyday and they do not automatically put refreshments in your fridge or leave you coffee, you have to phone down for them to bring it up separately .
Conclusion, if you are younger and looking for a all day party 7 days in a row with good weather and an amazing beach, The Royalton Chic Cancún will meed your needs,
But if you are looking for a slower pace and maybe over 50, this might not be what you are looking for.
We would rate this Hotel a 3.5 and that’s also after talking to other couples who where in the Diamond club and those that where not, no one give the hotel a 5 Star and we all agreed on 3.5.

Sandos Caracol Nature Resort and Water Park: Fifth time was not a charm...disappointed!
So this is the 5th time my husband & I stayed here and will not be going back. We purchased Select Club and there was no Select Club check in, you waited with everyone else, took 3 trips back to get our room as it wasn't ready. The service was very slow anywhere, concierge, restaurants, room issue. We waited for breakfast or lunch in the select club restaurant for 30-40 minutes at each service, our app still says we are waiting for the hot water to be fixed and we left the resort 5 days ago w[... read more]hich there were water issues daily with most rooms resulting in water shut off. The a la carte restaurants were great, if you could get a reservation. Best restaurant was El Nido - fast service and hot food. They closed the Mexican buffet for dinner which only left the International and Italian open. If you weren't there when they opened, you could wait up to an hour just to get a table! Resort was kept clean, beach was ok, adult pool was great and snacks in adult section (when the monkeys didn't get them). Not the same resort as previously and was disappointing...won't be back!

Tropicana Hotel: Good value
Grounds, pools and beach area excellent. Could upgrade pool recliners.
Hotel doesn’t guarantee double beds. You could end up in a King size.
Restaurant nothing special. Morning coffee is good.
Cleaning service was excellent.
Room Price with Airfare a good deal. Included free transportation to and from airport.
