The grounds were very dark at night, not easy to see where you were going. Lots if flies and cockroachs at the buffett. Food was average at best. Staff was great very friendly. I don't think I would go back.

Hotel Playa Coco: Decent - Bring a flytrap
The staff was helpful and friendly. The entertainment group was phenomenally talented. The beach was picturesque.
It’s Cuba after covid, storms, and economic struggles so go with that in mind.
They take US and CDN at the same rate ($20 is $20), so bring Canadian. You can often find someone there willing to trade their loonies and toonies for bills, but make sure you use Canadian and they give you Canadian. Do not accept Cuban currency!!!
The wifi is only in the lobby, and you have [... read more]to ask them for a login slip. You get 6 hours worth and can get a new slip when you’ve run out. We were there a week and ran out the very last day. There are a few websites that you can’t use (Disney+) and it won’t let you open the App Store, so prepare for that.
The food was what you would expect. The breakfast meals were by far the best (eggs and smoothies), but I struggled to find anything at lunch and dinner. We brought our own ketchup and salt, I’d suggest you do the same. Peanut butter for toast would have been nice.
We had to stop ordering drinks with liquor in them — they’re very heavy handed with the rum. Also, they tried to serve a fairly strong drink to a 12 year old so watch that if you’re travelling with kids. We even said “no, she’s a child†and they tried to tell us it was fine.. it wasn’t.
The flies. My good god the flies. I know there’s really nothing they can do about them, but I was losing my mind. BRING A FLY TRAP!!
The beach was very pretty, but (again not their fault) there are burrs from palms throughout the beach and the water was rocky. If I went again I’d bring water shoes.
The pool was nice, but it wasn’t very clean (the sides were green, water clear). The staff at the swim up bar was terrible… She spent the majority of her time chatting with other staff. We timed it once out of curiosity and it took her almost 30 minutes to actually serve us.
We brought snorkels and it was cool. There were so many different fish, giant snails, neat flora and fauna. I enjoy seeing new plants and species so that was a highlight for me.
The rooms were what you would expect (adequate), water was cold in the morning (if you wait until around lunch it’s good). They were clean though, and the woman who cleaned our room 6 out of 7 days was a delight.
I would visit this resort again but there are certainly things I would do different and that they could improve on.
I can’t state enough how talented the performers were. Definitely check out the nightly shows (they start anywhere from 9:30 to 10, lol. Island time I guess).
I’d also like to reiterate how lovely the staff was.

Grand Muthu Cayo Guillermo: Lot to be desired
Our expectations were not high but there is room for improvement. The buffet needs to be addressed in setup and flies infestation. Some maid service requires attention,(more self motivation to clean room and shower),as does the pool area cleanliness. Weather was excellent. Very hardworking staff that go above and beyond. Medical staff was excellent. Al a Carts were average to good. Beach was good but sand fleas were brutal. Take lots of bug spray.. No more Cayo Coco but would strongly consider g[... read more]oing back to Holquin.

Memories Caribe Beach Resort: Not so amazing resort
Won’t be going back for a second time! It started with our bed having to be completely replaced because the box spring and mattress were awful to sleep on. We could feel the springs and the slats from the box spring. Limited toilet paper at first but would get replaced with used rolls from other rooms. Food was ok didn’t starve. No mix for drinks. The flies in the buffet were ridiculous. Couldn’t eat without continuously swatting at them and they were all over the food. A cockroach ran acr[... read more]oss the bread table while I was getting toast. No complaints about the beach it was absolutely beautiful!!! And the gardeners were really nice.

Gran Muthu Imperial: Do Not Go to Cuba!
I can’t believe a 5-star hotel in Cuba can be sooo dirty! They definitely have misunderstanding on 5-star. The first day when I stepped into my room, the toilet flushing water spilled everywhere and it kept flushing, loud and gross. The 2nd day when I tried to call the front desk I realized the phone was not working. from 3rd to 5th days, the lights were all off in the hallway, super dark! The buffet place has tons of thousands of flies! They’re everywhere, on food, on plates, drawn in juice[... read more]s, on tables. Every single table on average has 5-10 flies! And the food lack of diversity and taste bad.I got diarrhea everyday! And the travel agency sold me the same excursion twice because they have different names! Also over charged me. It showed the prices were USD85 and USD90, but he charged $90 and $95, I asked him why, he said because it’s converted to CAD. But my credit card showing he charged me USD90 and USD95! I also got bug bites all over my body. I counted, 48 bug bites! Not sure it’s from bed bug or other bugs, but I’m sure it’s different from the other 6 mosquitoes bites on my body!Unbearable. I will never ever go to Cuba!
The Coral Level Iberostar Selection Esmerelda far exceeded our expectations. Cayo Cruz is incredibly beautiful and has the most amazing beach with the softest white powdery sand, that you can walk for miles. Never an issue to find chairs and a palapa if you are at the Beach before 9am. A bit of a drive from the airport, 1.5 hours on bumpy roads, but you won't regret choosing this resort. Staff here are fantastic and go above and beyond. The food was exceptional, occasional minor shorta[... read more]ges but always an alternative. Food was not repetitive as we'd read, always lots to choose from, and fresh grilled beef, pork, chicken or fish cooked to your preference. Not many options for a salad, however always sliced tomato and cucumber, different fruits over the week and endless homemade sweets, rice pudding, ice cream, etc. Al a carts Mediterranean and Cuban were both delicious. Lunchtime has several meal options, there are dishes offered at the beach (kept warm on a barbeque), the snack bar close to the beach always has meal options, burgers/hotdogs with occasional days offering pizza and fries. No people brought their own butter and condiments but we were fine without. The Spanish red wine was lovely and a nice treat. The lobby offers an early evening entertainment option with Cuban show or local talent, ie different nights someone playing a guitar, piano, violin and the best was a young lady on a chelo...all were fantastic. We would definately consider this a 5 star for Cuba! Loved it and would return.

Flight hours were changed from what we originally signed up for…. This caused us problems on the way there & very much so on the way home. 2 hours standing & sweating in the Cuban airport! Got home at 7am … yes I know it is suppose to be a review of the resort!

Grand Aston Cayo Paredon Beach Resort: Lovely resort
The resort was lovely. Very clean, well kept both outdoors and indoors.
Lovely people.
There were supply shortages(some food and no wine) but there were many choices of food.
The beach was nice. There were some rocky areas. Plenty of palapas or cabanas.
The resort is new so there are some improvements to be made. You had to ask for water and they provided only two beers in the room for the duration of your stay. Because it’s new there are no small stores unless you take the bus to t[... read more]he town market.
There are no laundry facilities in the resort so at times towels were short of supplies. We hung ours up to dry.
I trust there will be improvements in the years to come when the area is complete.
It’s a nice place for a low key relaxing vacation.

Iberostar Selection Esmeralda: Wouldn’t rate this a 4 or 4.5 star resort
My expectations are not high when travelling to Cuba. I love Cuba the people and their beaches and have travelled there every year (sometimes twice a year) for ten years prior to Covid. First time back. I expected shortages and it is what it is. However I was disappointed in the 1 restaurant we had. Never opened at 7. Always a line up to go in, made it hectic when the doors were open. The food was a little below standard. Not enough tongues for food. They were used for every dish. Cross conta[... read more]mination..no milk, powdered milk which is fine they just need to stir lumps out. End of vacation no milk what so ever. I found lots of veggies to eat, meat was hit and miss and fruit was limited. I love apples so ate them everyday. No bananas.
The flies were disgusting. On tables, in food, in glasses on table. Maybe try fly traps. We sat outside for most meals and no flies? Go figure….
As for the rooms, cleanliness for Covid, unfortunately our towels were never changed, I’m ok with 1 change while we are there but they just folded the wet towels and put in rack. One day half way through our holiday we walked in room and commented the cleaning supplies must have arrived because it smelled clean. The rest of days not much done. No soap to wash hands, which they have containers for hand soap, shampoo, body wash etc. all empty. Used our own soap which I expected.
Was disappointed there was no hand soap in any washrooms on the resort.
There was to be 3 specialty restaurants but only 2. No big deal they were good. Pasta was in short supply.
The drive from airport to resort varies from 45 - 11/2 hours depending who is being dropped off at other resorts or picked up on way home.
This resort will not be an option for my next trip. I will be looking to Cayo Santa Maria or Cayo coco my favourite spots. Tried something new but will stick with places I’m sure will be a 4.5 resort.

Muthu Colonial Hotel: Nice resort
The staff is very nice. We took vip ocean front. The view is amazing. Food was good but repetitive and from one day to the next not sure what you are getting. The vip is not like other places, you need to ask for stuff and reserve your restaurant every day. We had a special supper for vip and returning guests, very good and nice. The à la carte supper are limited and twice it was the same restaurant. Only 1 à la carte per night and only 50 people. We got a lobster supper the last night, good. Good resort, but wine is there when they have it and same thing with different food. You won’t go hungry, it tasted good but not a big variety in Cuba right now

Melia Jardines del Rey: Worst resort we have ever visited and unsafe
Wifi only in lobby area and that was scarse. No wifi in rooms or anywhere else on resort.
Awful food, dirty buffet restaurant with cockroaches near food. We have been back home 3 days and still have travellers diarrhea
We witnessed staff fighting, punching each other, kicking chairs. Felt very unsafe for rest of vacation. Asked to speak to manager twice with no response.
Zero night entertainment.

Memories Flamenco Beach Resort: Very Dated
The hotel has not been updated in a number of years; the public bathrooms were clean however falling apart. Our room was ok, however one day no towels or water. and our phone in the room never worked so we had to walk to the front desk to obtain. The hotel ran out of everything , and we did not have wine until our last day of holidays.
The beaches were beautiful, however will never go back to Cuba, as the food was terrible.

Grand Aston Cayo Paredon Beach Resort: Great hotel room and amenities with some improvements needed
Room is clean, modern and as described, resort and amenities, pool are new and very nice. Beach is very beautiful but rocky in certain places. No hot water shower at 5 pm, lukewarm at best. Buffet food is ok, no wine, ony cervesa and few drinks, plates not always clean, but overall ok if you're not too difficult, we didn't get sick during our stay. However, for kids food options are very limited, so can be said for kids entertainment and activities at pool and evening. For restaurants they try m[... read more]ake an effort/ try hard however, almost same food as buffet with very minor changes, we went to asian restaurant only. For resto reservations there was a 30 min lineup not worth the wait, availabilities were very late in evening 8 pm is difficult to go with a young child (4) at that time. Service is hit and miss depending on areas/ employees, at bar always had quick and friendly employees, buffet some good others you have to go see them to get coffee at breakfast. It hapenned that some employees completely forget your order or service your requested: ex: forgot to put water in minibar for 2 days, forgot to change towels, reserved boat at beach rental and boat rented to somebody else when we arrived. Guy at gym was great, entertainment people on beach and pool very friendly and gave a great service. Overall, it was a nice vacation and stay, mostly because of nice hotel amenities, beautiful weather and beach/ pool entertainment. I don't regret it, and I believe all in all the positives of this hotel and vacation outweight the few negative experiences, would recommend to easy going friends/ and if bring your own wine, toiletries/ tissues, and few snacks with you. No shop at the hotel, so no possibility to buy any extras besides what they give at buffet, room and restos.

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: Loved coming back!
Thank you Tripcentral for all the info updates re: travel\Covid/reviews. All were so helpful in our choice to return to the Iberstar Daiquiri.
We (three 60something women) had a great flight to and from the island. Customs on both sides were no problem. My sister and I had been to this resort quite a few times and were not disappointed. Yes, we understood that the Cuban land and its peoples are in a difficult situation but they greeted us with such warmth and cheer.
Rooms were a little ru[... read more]n down but spotless. The food was simple but ample....and the fish!!! OMG!!. Loved the pig roast; loved the beaches; loved the entertainment. This was the first time to Cuba for my friend who has travelled quite a bit and I had hoped she wasn't disappointed. Nope, she also fell in love with the people and place and will come back again.
Yes, there were some issues: flies in the "Big House"; ran out of wine, both red and white; no door on the closet. But really? no complaints here.
Thank you to all the staff ...LOL...especially the Bellman and Front desk. Thank you to the cleaning staff of the Trinadad building. Hope to see you next year!

Iberostar Origin Daiquiri: For very picky people
Almost everything was very good and we got first class service from hotel's staff.
It will be easier to list minuses, as there is only three.
Buffet - Food was very good, fresh, choice of fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, excellent bread and a lot of annoying flies
Room - renovated, clean, bed comfortable, fantastic view, but could not open the window for fresh air as there was no screen.
Beach - cleaned daily, nice sand, water shallow, but a lot of vegetation in the water, For crystal clea[... read more]r water you have to walk around 300 yards towards next hotel.
Everything else I would say 10/10. I am really happy with our trip.
