Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Stayed Jan 22/20 to Jan 29/20

Firstly...it's Cuba; as with my wife when we first met the three little words that won her over were - "lower your expectations". Saying that we had a great time at a very nice resort. We did change the room we were assigned when we arrived not only because the safe was broken but because it was on the ground floor by the games center. A note on the broken safe; when we reported it a tech was there within 15 minutes and fixed it (the front and rear piece of the door were broken off). The second  [... read more]room assigned on the second floor above reception had a couple issues as well. TV not working and the sliding door frame to the balcony was completely broken at the bottom on the back side. We reported this and it was repaired to our satisfaction with the very helpful assistance from Jorge (a guy who will get things done). All issues were taken care of the first day with the help from Elzbieta at the front desk and no other issues for the remainder of the week. Rooms were cleaned everyday with bottled water, beer and pop (soda) topped up every day as well. Toilets have super flush and scalding hot water whenever you needed it. Because of our location and not having the sun beat through any part of the room we didn't use the AC much but it worked great when needed. The whole complex was always being cleaned and the staff was always pleasant. Jerry and Miguel at the swim up by the beach were great and never missed a chance to give you a refill. There were two swim up bars with the other one located by the main lobby pool 24 hour grill. There are other bars located between the pools and at the beach as well as seafood restaurant very close to the beach and pool. There was also a BBQ by the beach bar every day (chicken). Weather was the best; between 27 and 30 everyday with no rain at all. A market was a 10 minute walk down the beach and horse back riding is also available almost on the resort with about an hour ride right onto the beach. Food was a little repetitive but you could also find something and no sign ups for the ala carts, just show up. There are 4 ala carts; Italian, Cuban, Mexican and Asian and all were good and we used them more than the buffet. Oh yeah...the pools are huge and never had a problem getting a lounger whenever we wanted. You get the usual self centered people saving the loungers but it wasn't needed. No problems getting loungers on the beach either and a fellow was there to sweep them off and take them to anywhere you wanted them. Again, no need to worry about not getting one. Snorkeling was great as well, lots of fish to see, neons, bluefin, angel and schools of other fish. Beach was flat right into the water without the usual step down where the waves break, the ocean was calm all week. You can do as much or as little as you wanted with sailboats and pedal boats. We have been to Cuba 10 times now and never stayed at the same resort twice and would have no issues returning to this one. We had a great time and as with any travel to Cuba, bring the essentials, ketchup, mustard, relish, peanut butter and honey. Some people were a little envious at breakfast when you take these items out of your bag and get requests to share ;-) . Lots more to say about this resort and all good but your probably already bored with this novel. Final word...don't be afraid to book this resort you will have a good time while feeling safe. Iberostar Selection Holguin: The best so far very satisfied going back

This hotel had everything I needed.From the amazing staff.The cleanest resort or hotell ive ever been at they clean 24 7.Rooms were spotless.24 hr security.Great children's area pool and splash pad.Great sports area and gym;The electric carts that whisk you to all parts of the resort where perfect for my 86 year old mum.The food at resteraunts was excellent.food at buffet was good.They had us at an upper floor when we first arrived mum couldn't do the stairs. Brisas Covarrubias: Quiet and remote resort

The resort is perfect for relaxing either on the beach or pool side! It wasn't crowded and noisy. The only problem I had was I couldn't exchange money as the resort had no money to exchange. The food was good, nice variety of dishes. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: Amigo Hotel

A little run down but clean. Staff was great. would have been nice to have orientation on tipping. Guest from Russia were rude. Excellent beach. entertainment was ok. pools Ok. ////////////////////////////////////////////////

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Terrific Resort

The hotel was welcoming and clean. Staff really try to help you and make sure your needs are met Food was average. The grounds were beautiful. Beach was fine but not as pretty as those in Cayo Coco Lots and lots of places to walk. The snack bar was awesome and we went there more than the buffet

Playa Pesquero: 3rd Time Here!

We brought our granddaughter here to see the real Cuba. The tour guides were the best and very knowledgable and spoke English very well! The entertainment at night was disappointing, not worth sticking around for. The rooms were always clean and the maids were very nice and always polite welcoming us and thanking us. The resort itself I saw improvements and upgrades. The food for a big resort was a little disappointing, no bread somedays and never seen a strip of bacon the whole time we had br [... read more]eakfast there. It was tuff somedays to find a 12-year-old something to eat so we did with a lot of repeats ( pasta for lunch & supper). Hey, we're in Cuba, we always found something to eat so the food thing was minor. This beautiful country and its wonderful people are being hurt thanks to Trump's blockade. Sol Turquesa Beach: OK

I have been there 5 times. My view is that it has gone down hill in entertainment, and involvement of visitors who seem to be a much more laid back type. There was only real stage show and a 60's - 70's music night. There was also a beach party which we did not attend. When we first started going there was nightly entertainment of high quality. The beach was ok but not enough shaded areas. The pools were great but not used very much. The staff in the Romantica was the best and the food was great [... read more]. The buffet was great and the staff there went above and beyond. There were a few of those 4 star qualities missing. In the lobby area they no longer provide coasters for under your drinks and quite often they drip on you clothes or the floor/tables. The napkins in the buffet are no longer cloth but small hardly big enough paper towel and normally after one use were unusable. The rooms were average and 2 of 3 couples had to be shifted to new rooms do to things not working. It is under new management and they seem to be attempting to reduce costs. The free ala-cartes were pre assigned and if you did not like their choices had to arrange for a change if there was availability somewhere else. On Wednesday night none were open. They also have made it an adults only which to me does not matter much but we miss the stage show for the kids which always was a nice relaxing time after supper. I would not consider it 4 star at this point. However at the price of $875 per week it was a great deal.

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca: A lot for a little!

The resort features a beautiful beach, friendly staff and very down to earth place. It's a 3 star in Cuba so keep that in mind, but I really enjoyed myself. The newly renovated cafe was really good.

Brisas Guardalavaca: nice resort

nice resort great workers and maids thought the fridge should have been stocked the other 7 places I stayed at was and had patios but this only had a foot patio but room was clean workers good lol and all other room safes you never had to pay $14 for a key to lock it like this one so some things good but the resort its self could use some work like safe and things nothing major

Iberostar Coral Holguin: Wonderful week in Cuba

We stayed at the Iberostar Holguin, Coral Level. It was the best decision we could have made if you want an adults only experience. The staff were warm, friendly and very accommodating. The resort is stunning, rooms beyond comfortable, and the outside shower was to die for. The food was great except for 2 meals, if you can't find something to eat at one of the 5 restaurants or the buffet, you have a problem. Pools beautiful and entertainment entertaining

Playa Pesquero: Wonderful resort!

Really enjoyed our second visit to this resort. As previously the staff and their service was stellar. They seemed to be genuinely happy to look after us. Always smiling and appreciative of tips. Unfortunately the food was off lesser quality than last year but there's always a good selection. Fish is always a good choice. Rooms and all areas are very clean. The beach and pool are beautiful!

Playa Pesquero: Cuban 4 star resort

Expansive resort a bit dated. Worth paying the extra for the premium section. Due to the problems they have with restrictions from other countries they don't have some of the extras they once had but still worth the value of the hotel. Great staff great beach. Food was good with what they had, but lacking in variety again only because restrictions . Would return in the future.

Aston Costa Verde Beach Resort: Nice resort

The resort was very clean and all the staff was very kind and helpful. It was my first experience at a resort. I did enjoy it very much, the only drawback for me was that the weather was not all that great.

Brisas Guardalavaca: Love this little resort

We stayed in the villa section, love this little resort . Staff is over the top friendly and go above and beyond to help you . Food was great I think the food was better on this trip compared to last year which must be hard with the embargo the country is dealing with . Great al the cartes Nice beach staff work hard to keep it clean 2 nice pools .main pool is active and villa pool is quiet Would return again. Great resort for a good cost

Brisas Guardalavaca: Brisas

What an amazing hotel. Despite the weather not being the best in early Jsnuary hotel staff did their best to ensure a good time was had by all. Lots of entertainment, plenty of options and well run establishment. Just remember to bring adapter for the rooms as they are all 220v.

Don Lino Hotel: Amazing resort for relaxing

Good service , very nice and amazing stuff , food is great, room clean , beach very nice but rocky ,there's some spot sandy to go in and out easily. Canadian families and local people coming just for relaxing there and for several time . every day music band . wifi 5 hours in 7 Canadian dollar . all the rooms and bars , restaurants steps on the beach . don't forgot to visit where Christopher Columbus landed ,just 1 KM walk besid the resort .

Sol Rio de Luna y Mares: Good value

This was our third time at this resort. The resort consists of two parts - the Mares side with the main building where the majority of entertainment and other activities take place, and the more quiet Luna with several smaller buildings. We've always stayed on the Mares side, which is located somewhat higher up the hill and has a beautiful panoramic view of the ocean and the beach. The location is hard to beat - the resort is located right on Playa Esmeralda - the best beach in the region a [... read more]nd probably one of the best beaches in Cuba. Overall, we consider this to be a decent value for the money, although for the price one could expect more. The resort would benefit from better upkeep and maintenance, as most rooms are outdated if not run down (which is not untypical for Cuba). We noticed some ongoing renovation, which will hopefully help improve future guest experience. The resort grounds are well-kept. The service was mostly friendly and quick. The food is mostly good quality and has more natural taste to it compared to foods sold at an average food service location or supermarket in Canada. The food variety was decent, although by the end of our first week we've exhausted the buffet menu, so it became repetitive. Coffee at the coffee bar in the lobby is great. Again, the main attraction is the beach and the ocean, with excellent swimming and snorkeling opportunities right off the beach. All the other typical activities, such as short sail trips on a small catamaran, kayaks, beach volleyball, yoga and dance classes etc. are available at no cost. As far as the entertainment program, this year we found it to be quite poor, compared to the previous years. On top of this, for some strange reason most of the performances were held right in the lobby of the Mares side, as opposed to the theatre located between Mares and Luna. This made it horribly noisy on the Mares side - a major complaint this year. We stayed there as a party of seven, including four adults and three kids. Overall - still a good experience, with a few remarks.

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Fun resort with lots of natural beauty

The resort is beautiful, well maintained and very comfortable. Beach is sandy, water is blue/green, no weeds like in other places and perfect for long walks. Great for snorkelling, catamaran rides, swimming, sunbathing,... Food was good and typical of Cuba. The gym was well equipped and one of the best I’ve seen. Lots to do. I would recommend to others

Brisas Guardalavaca: Amazing vacation!

Just returned from this hotel and had a fabulous time! Our rooms were awesome, the food was good and plentiful, and the staff very friend! Although we did get rain 3-4 days on and off we made the most of our vacation at this lovely resort! Thank you Brisas Guardavalaca!

Paradisus Rio De Oro: Fantastic Resort

The resort is a low style layout with most room accommodations being only two stories high.The walk from the lobby area to the room is along well manicured walkways which are lush with shrubs, palm trees and island flowering bushes.The lobby area and public areas are very clean and pristine,not a cigarette butt or piece of garbage to be seen anywhere.The rooms are clean and well maintained with your bar fridge restocked daily with water, beer and pop.The employees are all very friendly and upbea [... read more]t.The pool area is located at the far end of the resort providing you with a short relaxing walk through the absolutely well manicured grounds.We were very impressed overall.
