This hotel is very clean and nicely laid out. The beach is absolutely beautiful. The only thing I hated while staying here was the guys selling necklaces and gadgets. They don't leave you alone. The drinks are VERY alcoholic lol they don't understand what a little rum means . Very relaxing resort.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace: Service definitely needs improvement
Just returned from Punta Cana and while the resort and beach are nice and the food is decent (don't bother with the steak restaurant) the service leaves a lot to be desired. I've been down south over 20 times and I have never encountered such a lack of service or effort on the part of staff (mainly at the buffet and restaurants). I should add though that the bellman, front desk and maids were fine. The restaurant staff often made it feel like they were doing you a favour if you asked for some[... read more]thing. There seems to be an assembly like atmosphere......get the job done and go on to the next task. Perhaps the staff are overworked and not happy but whatever the reason, management should seriously pay attention to this problem. At almost every meal, we'd have to ask at least 2 people for our drinks. At one meal, we were led to a table that had food spilled on the floor. In addition, a waitress spilled a considerable amount of water nearby and at no time throughout the meal did anyone make an effort to clean any of the food or water. At the Italian restaurant, instead of a greeting the first thing the waiter said to us in a brusque manner was 'are you ready to order'?
We chose this resort primarily for the golf course which was excellent but the lack of service will ensure we will not return.

Cayo Levantado Resort: Tranquil resort with a lot to offer
An exceptionally, well-groomed property with amazing, thoughtful staff. There are many secluded places to bask in the sun or places to socialize. There is something for everyone. We were impressed by the bartenders blending drinks behind a closed door to reduce noise so other guests relaxing didn't have to hear the blender noise all day long. Food and service were on par with a Sandals or Couples resort. Will definitely return to this property

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Nice get away
Overall, the hotel was clean and well kept - the grounds, the rooms, the public areas. The beach was gorgeous - many reefs and fish to see, snorkeler's paradise. The staff were all friendly and efficient. The food was good, always something to choose from. We tried the Gourmet, Italian and Brazilian restaurants. All were quite good, with the Brazilian being our favourite.

Bahia Principe Explore El Portillo: Samana
The Hotel was beautiful with well manicured grounds. The food was very good and with a good assortment of foods. Also, the staff was very pleasant but needed to speak better English. Hard to communicate with restaurant staff.
A few things I was not impressed with were:We were told we'd have an oceonfront view and this was not possible as only one building had this and of course it was already booked.
This Hotel has quiet time at 11:00pm. which was a shock to us. Sitting in the lobby and all of[... read more] a sudden the lights go out was a bit disturbing. The bar also closes at that time which I realize we are seniors but on vacation I am not ready for bed this early.
The shuttle which takes you to your room also stops at 11:00pm. so we had no ride in the rain.
Our room looked over the pool which we thought was great until we were told to keep the laughter down as it was "the quiet pool"
I am a Rye drinker and they had none. I was told to drink Scotch which I'm sorry is not even close to the taste of Whiskey. Also, on the last two days they ran out of Vodka. Not a happy tourist!!!
I believe our Travel Rep should have advised us of the early to bed rule.

Bahia Principe Grand Bavaro: Good Resort
The hotel grounds were beautiful as well as the pool & the beach! Customer Service was poor, we had a lot of issues when we arrived with our rooms and things not working in the rooms! They were unwilling to help us and said there was nothing that could be done. (toilettes not working, no lights, doors not closing) Overall, it was an okay stay at the resort.

Riu Naiboa: Wonderful experience.
Riu Naiboa is a beautiful place to plan a vacation. If you have a young family, there is an incredible water park. The rooms are very clean, housekeeping staff is always smiling. the buffet has a great selection of food. The A-la-cart is very tasty as well.
The swimming pool could use a fresh coat of paint.
the front desk staff are very fluent in multiple languages.
I truly enjoyed my stay.

Surprise Escapes: We went to Chic, Punta Cana with Surprise Escapes
GREAT ALLERY FREE VACATION
We stayed for eleven nights at the end of November. We have been to over twenty all-inclusive resorts and feel we are a good judge of the resort quality. Hotel is a very modern, smaller resort. We stayed in a regular room which was very comfortable and the housekeeping was great.
The beach was always very rough and not safe to venture out very far. The pools are very nice, and the waitress are always there to get you a drink. The lounges had a big foam pa[... read more]d and so comfortable and good shade on the beach and the pool.
The steakhouse, Italian and Middle East restaurants where very good, with great food and service. It was nice not to require a reservation, The buffet was above average for a all-inclusive hotel, with excellent service.
This hotel is the only one of the twenty that we have been to that take allergies serious. I sent an email to the hotel before we arrived concerning my wife’s severe shellfish allergy, and is there anything that they do for people with allergies. We received a response from the Guest Service Manager named Rosa stating when we check-in they would have a card with her allergy in Spanish and English, that we would present to our server when ordering a meal. They had cards pre made for many allergies, and if they did not have a particular allergy card, they would have one made immediately.
The hotel is always trying to improve, and to that point, they have people from Guest Services that walk around talking to the guests. They want to know of any problems while you are still there, not after you have gone home and then put it on the internet. We had a young man named Marcos who asked if there was anything they could do to make our stay better. My wife mentioned that the labelling of some of the foods in the buffet was none existent. He went with us to the buffet and we told him the pasta station and omelette station had the ingredients in small bowls that the guest would pick for the cook, but these bowls where not labelled and are a problem for people with an allergy. The next day he came back with his supervisor Oliver and Rosa from Guest Services, and said that they would immediately proceed with a new directive to label everything possible.
One negative for us is the people constantly trying to get you to go to the presentation for Smart Travel, or to the Spa for a massage. Also the Nexus tour people are also always around trying to sell you excursions. These people will move on after you say no thanks, but are right back the next day. When you are on vacation you don’t need the annoyance from people at the pool, beach or lobby area.
Another negative is that the poolside washrooms could be cleaner. For some reason early morning 8-9 AM seemed to be a constant problem. I did see the cleaner come in the late morning.
When we where there we had a few days of rain, and reading was a big activity. Many people leave books that they have read for other guests to enjoy. Maybe the hotel could have a area where these books can be dropped off? We noticed books where left in the foyer of many buildings. A designated area for all books left for others to read would allow everyone to come to one area and all the books would be in one spot. We have seen this at other resorts and it was so appreciated by the guests.
Finally, all the people working at this resort are exceptional, they make the resort. The entertainment crew, housekeeping, restaurant staff are great. Rosa the Guest Services Manager is very special, she truly cares about the guests. Also Marcos of Guest Services went the extra mile to try to sort out our labelling issue, a very dedicate person.
We would highly recommend Chic, and we will come back without hesitation.
We enjoyed our time at the Majestic. We had hoped for the Adults only but were in the regular swim up suites.Pros-The pool was clean but very small and open to the rest of the resort(whether or not they had a swim up room or not)This was something we hadnt experienced before.Usually swim ups are private to swim up rooms. The resort is smaller so it was fine and not over crowded. They had daily pool activities that were lots of fun.The beach was clean and towels were never a problem. They had washclo[... read more]ths everyday. The food was good. The staff were friendly.Cons-Lack of variety in food.Patio doors didnt have handles on the outside making it very difficult to get back into the room. Not enough stairs to get out of pool at swim up rooms.Grounds werent as beautiful as they could have been and because of that the water from the pool area caused a lot of mud. There was a charge for room service.I have never seen this in an all inclusive before. However our fees were waived because of a lengthy check in.Service was over all good but was very much improved with big tips.I have now been to 5 Resorts in Punta Cana.I consider this one the second best I have been too.I have recommended this resort to my friends wanting to visit Punta Cana because over all it was enjoyable. With lots to do either at the pool..the beach or at night.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Very good place to stay Nice people.
Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Still a great place but needs some Customer Service on the Management team.
Thanks to our Tripcentral rep for reaching out to us after our trip to see how it went both in writing and for the personal phone call.
First off – Let me thank you for your efforts in booking and ensuring all was in line with our tickets, hotel, flight etc. Great job and Jessie Newbigging your one of the reasons we love dealing with Tripcentral and continually come back. Great customer service.
Now for the trip.
Flight there and back was great and we flew in a nice new plane from[... read more] Airtransat.
The Hotel Check IN Horror – My how things have changed with the Bahia Principe Ambar now that Green and Blue have been introduced and not for the better. There was 8 of us, 4 sisters and their husbands.
Check-in was in one lobby for the Green and Blue together as the Ambar has expanded and certainly they were overbooked as they asked us to have a seat and wait. We arrived around 5:30 or so and had a Coconut welcome drink. There was nothing else but Beer and a fruit drink to get while waiting to get checked in. Would have loved a real cocktail to start the vacation after the flight or even cold water. My older Sister’s room was not ready – (she booked with a different Tripcentral agent) and the other rooms we had were all in separate villas. I had also emailed the hotel in advance and given them our arrival information so they could prepare and of course they acknowledged they would do their best. Of course we all waited for our rooms together and it was a about two hours and still no room for my Sister. Also as repeat guests we did not get the different color bracelet (it just recognizes you as a repeat customer and they normally give you a gift). We went to the buffet and when we came back, they still had no room for my sister. They gave her a temporary room of her choice for the night and told us to come back at 12:00 noon the next day for new bracelets and the room clarification. We were told the repeat color Bracelets was on order and would be in tomorrow. (Room choice was either close to us with no phone or on the other end of the Resort and in the Green section not the Blue section as requested). She chose the one with no phone of course. I ordered ICE for her and myself from my room (the bellboy did it for us and I heard him repeat both room numbers) I got my ICE and she got nothing. Found out the next morning she waited for 1 ½ hours for ICE. As she had no phone she could not call anyone. My room was great – King bed on the corner – 1st floor like I asked for. Air conditioning a little week but corner units are rumored to be that way. I lucked out on this trip. My one Sister got a room with 2 double beds and a view of a mud hole from her balcony. Another Sister got 2 double beds also. In fact - I was the only King and I booked last. They also had requested King beds.
We went back to the check-in Lobby at 12:00 noon and was assured Room change for 2 Sisters would occur. We were advised to go to the Blue Lobby to get the new rooms and they would have the information at 3:00 PM. but told the bracelets are only given to repeat guest after 11 visits. This was after we told them we have been there 5 times previously Just a little believable to me. In fact, as we were waiting in the lobby the Preferred club representative came and asked what was wrong. I informed him and he said the 11 times is news to him. I had also emailed the hotel informing them or our repeated return. At 3:00 PM we went to the lobby for the rooms and the Blue Lobby (where the General Manager told us to go. We found out later he was not the GM at all- his name sounded like “Joanne†) told us rudely to go the Green Lobby as that is not their Job. We went to the Green Lobby and well they called and argued with the Blue Lobby etc. To spare the added grisly details around 5:00 PM, my sisters got their rooms through the help of one of the butlers. Wow – so really check-in took a day of our vacation.
Room Fridge refill – They advertise the room fridge is restocked daily with 3 small oz liquor 2 beer / 2 chips / pop and water daily. That is a myth and a dream come true for those that do get it. The little liquor bottles where not replenished most of the time and when they were it was 2. This was for all of us not just one room and we were all in different villas. My sister also had no beer replenishment on top of the liquor.
I did call room service one night and they brought beer but no liquor bottles. My sister found empty little liquor bottles on the back of the top shelf her closet when leaving. Interesting…….
The Al A Carte and Buffets - All restaurants were booked in advance as I emailed them for reservations. They were correct and the timings were adjusted to availability but that’s a given. I had no issues with any of the food and enjoyed it all but 5 of our party got stomach upset and of course had to stay very very close to the bathroom. 3 of them missed dinner reservations as some point in the week. We think is was the coconut drink that was in question. The food was excellently presented and the beef is much better than the past visits. The Chateaubriand was simply delicious. The buffets were great for breakfast and lunch with lots of options.
Beach and Pool – Was very crowed and now they have a Preferred area for the timeshare individuals. For a good spot you have to get up at 5:45 am for the beach – 6:30 for the pool. Even then, people will put their lounger in front of you if they choose. Not the Hotels fault, just a world of disrespectful people.
Overall – We did enjoy this vacation time even though there were issues with the Ambar Blue that they never had before. The weather was not as hot and sunny as normal this time in Punta Cana but it was the beach not the office and the resort was clean. Lots of improvements are needed for the AMBER Blue but the staff that are assisting you day to day are wonderful. We ran into an old friend who has served us each year we have been at the Bahia and he made our morning breakfast amazing each day. We met new friends of his as most of the staff has moved on. It is these workers that make the resort a great place. Too bad about the Check In, the Rude management at the Desk and the want to be General Manager, they could all do with a course in customer service. Ambar does have a butler service but unfortunately no one took the time to explain the options and how they could make our vacation better.
As indicated earlier we have been to the Ambar for 5 Adult vacation in the past. This is the first time any issues so it could be just a onetime thing. The other side is that we have been treated so wonderfully in the past and our expectaions are just to high now. Will we return to the Ambar – Yes

Bahia Principe Grand Bavaro: Great resort, friendly staff !
The resort itself was great. Food was awesome, drinks were great, and the bartenders were always very happy and quick to serve you. The only issue we had was with our room itself. For some reason the door wouldn't lock when you shut it, you would have to lift up on the door and slam it shut before it would lock. So when the maids came to clean the room they would leave and not realize it was still open. Other then that issue, we loved the resort and the friendliness of the employees there.

Blue Bay Villas Doradas: Had a great time
I was really happy with the resort, food and staff. I would have liked to see a main bar in the entrance that everyone can use - not just VIP. I found it was missing a "gathering" spot in the main area.
Also the sales people on the beach were a little much - a closed off area where they don't have access is highly recommended.
Aside from that we really enjoyed our time in the sun!

Hotel rooms were modern and beach was beautiful with plenty of chairs, entertainment was good. Most of the bar and buffet staff were slow and sometimes we didn't even get what we asked for. Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Be Live Marien Puerto Plata
We just returned from a 7 night stay at the Be Live Marien in Puerto Plata. We flew with Sunwing which I cannot say enough about. The flight both ways were on time, the crew were great, they had a good selection of food and drinks. The hotel transfers were fine and our rep at the hotel was easy to locate and was available 24/7. As with any vacation we had our good experiences while some were just ok. The first room they gave us which was in building one was just not acceptable for anyone. You co[... read more]uld not open the balcony door it was so rusted out, the hinges on the tv and armoir stand were all rusty. The inside of the bathtub was all peeling and when you closed the curtains there were moth holes all through them and water was leaking in under the door as it was raining heavily when we arrived. When we went back to reception they did find us another room without any hassle and that room was good it was in building three.
The pool was amazing, very big and every morning was cleaned and all the chairs lined up for the day. There were lots of chairs and palapas and we never had an issue finding one, the hotel was about 1/2 to 2/3 thirds full while we were there I would say.
The beach area was ok, we stayed at Grand Paradise in January and the beach is much nicer there and the water blue. They have had a very rainy season and the rain has done a lot of damage to the beach which is not the hotels fault but they could clean it up a little better.
The buffet restaurant was ok but everything tasted the same and we found a lot of things to taste sweet. But you certainly would not starve. The staff in the buffet were very friendly and quick to see to your every need.
The front desk staff were very good and spoke good English in fact we never encountered a staff that wasn't friendly and any time we needed anything the hotel was very quick to accommodate.
We found the A-La-Cartes ok, I loved the Meditterranean but my husband hated it, I chose all the right things on the menu I guess. The staff noticed that my husband did not like his dish and they came right over and had him chose something else. They apologized for him not liking it so even though he was not impressed with the food we could not fault the service at all.
The Brazillean Restaurant looked very nice, the meat that they served was good it was the side dishes on the buffet that let them down. Not very warm and the potatoes and rice were dried out but once again the staff were great and very attentive.
Tha animation team work hard. The water aerobics were fun, a few of the shows at night were good, we did not see them all and during the day they had plenty of activities if you wanted them.
We only went out of the hotel once to go on the Cable Car. We did the city tour through our hotel in January so this time we just took a taxi to do the car by ourselves. We got the taxi from the lobby our driver was great, he waited for us while we went up the mountain and then brought us back.
The clientele while we were there was very European, German, Polish and Russian. We made many new friends and enjoyed all the different Nationalities.
Overall the hotel is ok, if you get it for the right price you will have a good time. I think if they remodel their rooms and clean up the beach this hotel would be stunning.
