The Mexican, Italian and under the sea restaurants were very good and the service was great.
We enjoyed the entertainment groups around the pool and in the cafe area in the evening. Very friendly.
We had very good service at the beach thanks to Eudes. He went out of his way for us.
We took the VIP package, we had a concierge but after the first day, we didn't see him again.
Rooms were ok but not very clean. Bed skort was dirty and washroom not very clean. The cleaning lady was ve[... read more]ry good at rearranging and adding towels. That service was good.
Breakfast buffet wasn't good, not clean and no good service maybe because of the language barrier. Public washrooms were not clean. Resort needs to review quality assurance.

Paradisus Punta Cana: Nov 24/16 to Dec 1/16 Paradisus Punta Cana
This resort is on Bavaro Beach, approximately 30 minutes from the Punta Cana airport. While this resort is beautiful there were several negative factors that made our vacation less than memorable. I will start with the positive aspects.
- stunningly beautiful,wide beach
- the hotel itself is lovely, maintained very well, set on lush 40 hectare property
-food is of very good quality, with a large variety
-given the time of year the hotel was at 50% capacity, which is a definite plus for u[... read more]s (900 room resort)
- bar service was friendly and efficient, we never had to wait
-our room was cleaned early each day, lots of towels and shampoo etc., and mini bar was well stocked each day
Negatives:
-there was a problem with our booking and when we arrived at the resort there was not a room for us. After 3 hours and many phone calls, our Sunwing rep. Richard sorted it out for us. At this point we were very tired, hot and hungry .
-the air conditioner in our room was not working, it was 26 degrees in our room when we arrived, we called the front desk, and they said they would sent someone, but no one came that night
-we left the patio door open the first night since it was so hot in our room, but neither my husband or myself slept very well worrying about an open door on the ground floor. The air conditioner did eventually cool the room down to 21 degrees overnight , and worked well from that point on
-the people in the room directly above us woke us up 5 nights out of 7 when they came home from the disco. There was loud music, shouting, slamming of doors, but the worst part was the fighting. Yelling, arguing, and physical abuse, in fact we found the young lady sleeping on our deck bed one morning. We reported this several times to the front desk and they assured us that the security people would take care of it, they had several complaints from other guests in our building. It was not resolved at all.
-on our last day our bus was picking us up at the resort at 12:00 pm and we had to make 3 calls to the front desk to have someone help us with our luggage and give us a ride to the lobby. Given the size of the resort walking was not an option. Someone finally picked us up a 11:50 am, we were quite worried we would miss our bus.
Each of these concerns on their own would probably not make or break a holiday, but all things combined, there were too many negative issues.

Marien Puerto Plata Hotel: Great Fun!
The buildings were a bit dated, but well maintained. The pool was beautiful, but the beach was lackluster - probably due to the torrential rain. Food was decent, the meditteranean restaurant is surprisingly good. Wine at the buffet is awful, but ok in the restaurants. Animation staff are fantastic. No swim up bar. Bars close at 2 on weekends and 1 on weekdays which was weird.

Bahia Principe Grand Bavaro: Overall Great Stay!
This was my 3rd stay at the Bahia Principe. As usual I had a pretty great stay. The only negative was I feel service has declined a little bit. We ran into more problems then usual on our stay. We travelled with a group of 12. One of the couples with us didn't even have a reservation when we arrived. Although they did get bumped up to the luxury resort (Ambar), consequentially their villa and lobby were away from the rest of us. Two of the couples we were with had broken toilets upon arrival to [... read more]their room. And a bellhop was banging continuously on our door at 6am one morning. With all that being said, the food was overall pretty good, and all of us were satisfied all week. The pools and beach were always kept clean and the atmosphere was always amazing! The Japanese and steak al la carte were phenomenal and always my favourite!!

Bahia Principe Grand Bavaro: Great Resort - Decent service
Hotel, grounds, pool. beaches, food, drinks, all amazing - no complaints. My only complaint was the service from workers there. It is very evident that no one is ever in a rush. When calls for service were made it took very long to get anything done. Faster, more attentive service would be appreciated. However this was not everyone, some great, friendly workers there as well.

the food was very good, and the grounds were very beautiful and well kept. the room cleaning staff were not nice at all and did not clean our room properly all week and not once did she clean our balcony.and our mini bar was not stocked daily..when we asked her to stock it she gave me a dirty look and attitude. also friends of ours that came with us, the cleaning lady they had stole money and her medication. and she has stage 4 cancer. 2 days of our trip was wasted dealing with that, and there r[... read more]oom had a leak and all of there close were soaked. our whole vacation was ruined and we could not wait to leave there. we go to the Dominican every year and this was by far the worst trip.

Sunscape Coco Punta Cana: Amazing Trip with hiccups
The hotel and the staff were great for the most part. Guest services in the main lobby were so helpful with a problem I had with excursions I booked with my tour rep, before my arrival to Punta Cana. Carmelo was exemplary. So friendly, helpful. He and the Via staff were my go-to person for anything I needed during my stay. I had a problem with my room upon my arrival. The VIP CSR assisted with my room change the next day and Carmelo assisted with moving my luggage and helped me get settl[... read more]ed in. Made sure room no issues or concerns like the other room did. Near the end of the vacation, housekeeping slacked, left with no towels, unchanged sheets, needed new robe and toiletries, room was left untidy, and unfortunately I was on twelve hour full day excursions which left me unable to follow up with my concerns and requests for all of the above mentioned to be addressed. The front desk would tell me they would have it rectified. It wasn't. Next day same thing. Then the next day I was leaving, so I didn't bother. I did write a review immediately after my stay. They addressed them and reassured myself, that if I were to return they would offer me compensation. Wish I could say the same for my Sunwing representative. They didn't show up for my welcome meeting. I was left waiting. I left a detailed description of concerns regarding my original room, they contacted myself, said they would keep calling me until they reached me and had received confirmation everything was addressed and resolved. I never heard from them again. Immediately after we discussed the room concerns, they asked if I was interested in booking any excursions, I replied no, as I booked all mine already. They hung up. I was extremely disappointed with my Sunwing representative. I have never experienced anything like that.

Catalonia Bavaro Resort: excellent
Beautiful beach and excellent restaurants. Well maintained property. If you like to go for long walks on the beach, this is not the resort for you because it has no other resort on either side of it. That means the beaches are full of seaweed and it is almost impossible to take long walks.

Bahia Principe Grand Bavaro: Great resort!
The grounds of the hotel are beautiful! Food was great, the buffet had a different theme each night which helped to switch up the food. Rooms nice and updated! Pools and beach absolutely beautiful! Although, they could use a couple more swim up bars! Never had to wait longer than a minute or so for the trolly's taking you from point A to point B. Casino was great and disco very fun, as was the karaoke bar but there needs to be more seats in there and open later! Overall, a great resort.

The Iberostar Costa Dorada certainly exceeded our expectations! The grounds were beautifully kept, the food was exceptional and the staff were fantastic! Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada: Meh, it's okay
This hotel was okay. Nothing more, nothing less. The grounds were well kept, if unremarkable. The rooms were clean, but basic. The food was great on selection, lacking on execution. The staff was attentive while also remaining distant and uninterested. The beach was a tease to what other beaches in the DR can offer.
While there is nothing at all wrong with this resort, we spent our 7 days there constantly saying "Meh, it's okay". Another traveler that we became friends with asked us if [... read more]we would recommend this resort to our friends at home and it was very difficult to say either yes or no without a laundry list of reasons why.
We booked here specifically to be close to the mountainous areas out Puerto Plata in order to venture out 4-5 days of our week. Because of the torrential rains experienced in this area over the last month, this was not possible, so we found ourselves confined to the resort a little more than we had hoped.
This is not to bash the resort completely, there was a lot of good here, just not one bit of great that we could identify. Food selection was one of the best we have seen on any resort, there was just none of it that was all that great. The nightly shows had some of the best props and sets I have ever seen, but the performers looked like they wanted to be anywhere but on that stage. There was never a wait for drinks at the bar, or in the restaurants, but trying to find a smile on most of the staff's faces was like searching for a needle in a haystack.
I would recommend this resort for large groups looking for something to please everyone, young families and budget travelers if you can get a deal on the price. I would look elsewhere for couples and families with older children.

VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort: Mucho Excellente Resort
My wife and I chose the Royal Package, and we were not disappointed. From the time we arrived, right up until the time we left. Lets start with the arrival. Upon entering the resort, we were greeted with a cool refreshing cocktail. Immediately upon checking in, we were taken up to the "Vista Lounge" which is a perk for Premium and Royal upgrades. International alcohol brands and a beautiful Air Conditioned lounge with Sofas and relaxing music, what a start to our vacation. There we met Karen, th[... read more]e Manager of the Vista Lounge. She gave us a quick debriefing of what the resort had to offer while we were having another cocktail and some snacks. We then proceeded to our room, 2308 third floor in the Catalina wing. Beautiful room, King size bed, balcony over looking the resort and Ocean through the Palm trees, Paradise! Within minutes our baggage arrived.
We spent most of our time down at the Beach, in the Private Area with our Cushion loungers and Balinese bed. Here we had our 2 waiters taking care of us all day and all week with food and drink. I have to mention their names because of the great job they did. Aquilino and Amable kept us entertained with great service and conversation for the entire week, and Felipe setting our loungers and Balinese beds for us. We learned some Spanish, and they practiced their English, 5+ stars for these 3 guys. Honorable mention has to go to Elvin, bartender at the Beach bar. He put a show on every time he made a drink, flipping bottles and glasses, always a big smile. The other 2 Honorable mention goes to the Vintage Club employees, Jose and Verenice, she makes the greatest Spanish coffee, which we had everyday. Also to our lady who kept our room clean and well stocked, I unfortunately forgot her name. The only downside is the vendors on the beach, for the most part a simple Ola and no grassias and they would move on. But there were some very aggressive vendors that took a little more convincing to just move on. We did end up buying some souvenirs during the week, and by the end of the week were on a first name basis with many of them.
The food at the buffet was good, nothing spectacular. We ate at the Specialty restaurants every night for supper, another perk of the Royal package, and that food and service was very good. Our reservations were all handled by the Vintage Club rep, and were never a problem to get our choice. The Beach food was also pretty good, just eating on the Beach was great enough. The house wine is not the greatest, they should upgrade that.
The nightly entertainment at the outdoor Theater was also very good. Different theme every night with music and Dancers, and getting the crowd involved, you want to get there early to get a good seat, it is worth the waiting time.
At this resort, all the staff are very hard workers and always have a smile, indeed a pleasure meeting so many of them. We felt very safe here on the premises and on the beach, Security everywhere.
The only bad thing unfortunately, the weather was not co-operative, lots of rain during the week, but that did not stop us from having a great vacation, we still ended up with a decent tan.
Overall we were very impressed with this Resort and will be returning here in the future, we would recommend it to everyone.
An added note, tipping for your services go a long way, we were very appreciative for all the people that took good care of us, we arrived as strangers, and left as family and friends. "Mucho Excellente"

Bahia Principe Grand Bavaro: Not 5 star
Good value for the money. Not a 5 star tho. Hugh hotel, too far too walk from the beach to the cafeteria. Yes I felt like it was more a cafeteria than a buffet. For the amount of people the resort can handle there aren't enough buffets, only one for dinner. One has to wait in line to be seated in the buffet (something I have not experienced before in my travels).

Cofresi Palm Beach and Spa Resort: Cofresi palm
The customer service was awful our rooms flooded twice once from a pipe burst another from rain they did little to accommodate us. as for the beaches and restaurants if your not a VIP member you only get one small beach and limited a la carts to choose from.
We had an incredible vacation. The facility was magnificent, the employees were very friendly and attentive, the food was a gastronomic indulgence. We would have enjoyed more sun, but we chose to go in November. I would suggest bringing US dollars and not pesos. \Everything is price in us dollars so easier if you have the right currency. I definately recommend this resort to anyone! I would love to go back.
