The rooms were a little to be desired not terrible but nothing to spectacular. The resort was clean and staff were superb. The meals were good for all nationalities. The resort felt very safe. The beach area was sandy but very rockiein the water

Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach: Great resort
Beach and pool are are fantastic. Staff is amazing. I realy enjoyed coffee bar and specialty coffees as I only drink espresso based coffee which I did not find in many resorts that are higher in standings rather than this hotel that is advertised as three star. Room was clean and beds comfortable. One minus was lack of beach umbrellas at the beach and pool area however there were plenty of loungers at the beach so you can find a spot any time of the day. Food was great in buffet as well a la car[... read more]te restaurants. All in all great value for the money and definitely will come again and recommend the hotel to the friends who are looking for vacation in Bahamas.

Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach: Great vacation
We really enjoyed our vacation. We were registered for our rooms on the bus and were given our all inclusive bands before we arrived at the resort. We had packed swim wear in our carry on so that we were able to begin enjoying the beach as soon as we arrived. Our room was ready at 3 pm as promised.
The room was basic but comfortable. The air conditioning worked very efficiently. There was a refrigerator in the room and we were given one free bottle of water. We took water bottles with us and fi[... read more]lled them at the water/ice machines.
The food at the buffet and specialty restaurants was excellent. We visited Viva Cafe the first night and were very impressed with the meal and the ambiance. On Tuesday we visited Bamboo and thought the meal was very good.
The entertainment at the resort was brilliant. The trapeze was a real hit with my son. It was a challenge but great fun. The entertainment team works very hard at the resort. The Lion King and the Acrobatic evening entertainment were brilliant.
The beach was beautiful. There are some rocks as you enter the water but not really an issue. There are palm trees dotted around the beach area for shade as well as a few sails.
All in all a very good vacation and would not hesitate to go back in the future.

Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach: Relaxation, or activity on a beautiful beach
This is a very good sized resort 15 to 20 minutes from the airport, with an efficient shuttle which has you get registration out of the way on your trip in. If you arrive early like we did just pack a beach bag and grab it out of your suitcase on arrival at the hotel. The check in at 3pm is very efficient. It's not one of the huge expansive places that you have to take a shuttle around. No one was trying to sell us time shares either. Very safe environment. The white fine sand beach is alway[... read more]s just steps away where we never had a problem finding lounges. The water is turquoise and warm. Some rocks which you should be careful of at low tide, but help at high tide. You can get snorkels and find tropical fish just outside the swimming ropes, go at low tide.. The fish think you're going to feed them and surround you. Many opportunities to book excursions around and off the island. Nice expanse of beach with no other resorts around. There are daily activities by the pool and the wonderful friendly staff are encouraging people to join, but not too pushy. You'll see them at night putting on the variety of shows, mainly dancing to themes. One night a week there's a beach show too. The food was quite good, various salads, fruit, and freshly prepared items from the grill, as well with plenty of choice at the buffet. Breakfast has made to order eggs. They aren't very good at clearing away dishes though. We had vegan and a vegetarian with us and they were able to find something good every day. The pre-booked service restaurants have to be advised in advance. They all have their set 4 course menus with various selections. Getting the ice machines to work is a bit of a challenge, and there are sea gulls and wasps around the beach bar. The rooms are all the same, typical North American Standard, not too big, but very clean and cool. Wi-Fi is good even in the rooms. Solar heated showers take a little while for the water to heat up. I'd say the ocean view was worth it. We liked this for a family vacation and found it was very good value. We agreed we'd return.

Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach: Hotel staff & management are trying but some aspects of the property are in dire need of TLC
You can tell that the staff and management of the Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach Resort are trying hard to please their guests most of the time and everyone worked so hard at it. Please know that we appreciated the effort because after-all, we had gone for rest and relaxation. The common grounds of the Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach Resort are well maintained. However, the guest rooms including the bathrooms require a total renovation. Unfortunately, if there was only one word to describe the rooms [... read more]and bathrooms it would be "grungy." We had a gardenview room but even when quizzing other guests who had booked ocean-view rooms, their experiences were similar. The food and service in the Bamboo and Italian a la carte restaurants were good. Those were the only two a la carte restaurants we attended. The food at the buffet was mediocre most of the time. All that being said, we didn't go for a posh room or upscale dining. We went for the R &R, culture, climate, beach/ocean and availability of water-sports included. The beach needed to be cleaned better. There was glass and plastic found on a couple of different days. However, the water-sport options were excellent! Hopefully, this candid feedback helps future guests with their expectations of this property and alerts management to the repairs and maintenance required.

Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach: More Than I Had Hoped For!
This was the first time that I stayed at a resort that wasn't 5* so I wasn't sure to expect. I was very pleasantly surprised. The biggest difference to me was the lobby, which is usually really large with a lot of marble but this one was small and mostly wood but made no difference to me because check in and check out was amazingly quick. The other big difference to me was the size of the buffet. It was much smaller than all the 5* resorts I have been to, but there was still lots to choose f[... read more]rom and the food was really good. I had read in the reviews that the rooms need updating, and they do, but they were clean and that's all I ask for. I don't spend a lot of time in my room so if the bed and shower are clean then I'm good. One thing that about this resort that was wonderful is the amount of chairs around the pool and on the beach and the pool towel service. We were able to change towels anytime the towel shack was open, which doesn't usually happen. I was also very happy to see that staff were allowed to eat in the buffet, which to me says they are treated well by the resort.

Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach: Great Vacation
We just came back from vacationing in the Bahamas - Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach. A very nice resort... the rooms were clean, the pool and beach were near each other, and the food was quite good and tasty. The entertainment staff came from various countries around the world... Italy, Greece, Canada. They were all very friendly and funny, especially Alex! A wonderful group who made our vacation even more fun and lively. They should be commended. Thanks for a memorable vacation!

Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach: Location location
If you go, get an oceanfront room preferably in the Bimini section 2nd floor. The view is beautiful. Overall I felt I got more than what I paid for. Food was good at the buffet with a few stand out dishes over the week. The cafe al a carte was very good so we went there twice. I had a good curry salmon at the Asian as well. The beach had a little seaweed but was a nice white soft fine sand and you could walk for km's. In the am the water level was high and the bottom was sand. When the tide wen[... read more]t out there wer some rocks to watch for. The snorkelling was pretty good right off the beach. Lots of fish and some coral. We had a couple small schools of fish follow us around then had a bigger fish join in for a bit. There are only two bars but waits were short and the alcohol was above normal bar grade. The Ricardo Gold and Dark Rum were very good. Yes they could address some of the small things like towel availablilty in the rooms, a coffee shop open early, stocking the room fridge, free room safe, but they do offer trapeze and paintball which is not a normal inclusion.
There is no problem getting chairs on the beach any time of day, no need to get up at 6am like most places.

Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach: Average Resort
The beach had rocks along the length of it so you had to be careful when trying to wade out.
One main swimming pool that the seagulls would dive into to drink water from while you are swimming and also drop their food into.
They came and took the towels every morning and didn't return them till late afternoon so you were left the whole day with no towels in the room.
They tried to have a variety of food and themed food nights too.
Though it is not clearly marked on the safe itself, t[... read more]here is a charge to use it and once you use it, you will get a note on your door asking you to pay for it.
The gym was very hot as the fans didn't do much to cool the place down.
The staff were really friendly. Though it seemed like the resort was catered to the Italians (children's songs were mostly Italian in the nightly show and they even put on an Italian comedy) and most of the activity and entertainment staff were more fluent in Italian than English.
The nightly entertainment was excellent especially their trapeze and Lion King show. They had a different nightly theme too with props to go along with it.

Lighthouse Pointe at Grand Lucayan: Honestly more than a bit disapponting
I genuinely hope that this review gets the attention that it deserves because I would like to spare others looking to spend their hard-earned money on a vacation the experience that we had at this resort. If you're not up to reading a wordy review I apologize and have included a summary in the final paragraph...scroll down at your leisure.
I want to acknowledge from the start that I am aware that the island was dealt a significant blow at the hand of Mother Nature which is unfortunate to say[... read more] the least. In the months that have passed since the hurricane it appears as though very little if anything at all has been done to repair the damage done at the resort and to Grand Bahama Island in general. This may in fact be due to a lack of necessary resources which for the island in general is understandable, I suppose; however I find it slightly a bit less forgivable in the case of a resort presumably better funded than local bodies.
Ours was a group of 24 guests on holiday to celebrate the wedding of a family member. It was planned well in advance of the hurricane. We were made aware by our agent of the storm and that there was associated damage however in my estimation that extent of it was understated. We arrived expecting that there may be a couple of the a a carte restaurants not operating. In fact there was only one a la carte open and very limited food options otherwise. The selections at the buffet restaurant were not great and on many days we were served the same food at both lunch and dinner periods.
The main hotel building, while clearly not open obviously sustained severe damage. Windows and doors missing or hanging off, patio furniture still where the winds took and left, pools completely empty but for the sand deposited in them by the storm. The bulk of the property truly looks like this storm could have just hit only days ago.
Having spoken to the general repair of about two thirds of the resort there is little wonder why Lighthouse Point was as busy as it was particularly on days when cruise ship visitors descended on the resort. It certainly didn't feel like the 'exclusive' experience that any of us had expected based on the price tag. Waits for food and beverage were excessive, one day there was no bottled water and most days it was a challenge to procure a towel.
The most disappointing aspect of the stay by far was the service (or lack thereof) provided us. Apart from a couple of superstars in Lilly and Pauline who were more than attentive and kind to us at the beach, the general sense of apathy from the balance of the staff was palpable. We were rarely greeted at any of the various venues with a smile and some interactions with frontline staff were unpleasant at best. My experience at checkout was lengthy and confrontational. It was really disappointing that my final memory of the stay was transactional and really unpleasant.
I really am searching for something positive to share about our holiday. I will say that the wedding on the beach was fabulous and went off without incident in spite of some planning gaps in advance. Our dinner was fine albeit missing two of the contracted courses and an MIA cake.
Something that should also be noted to those who choose all-inclusive destinations expecting to have the run-of-the-house; 'all-inclusive' does not mean that here. I cannot count on both hands and feet how many times through the course of our stay how many times we were told that we could not have one thing or another because we were on the all-inclusive package. Just strange.
The remarks above only just begin to address the issues; there were just so many things that were not right and poorly handled. I feel it is appropriate also to say that I have spent less money on other all-inclusives and been treated to far better hospitality.
There are a lot of things which I can absolutely forgive here in light of what the people and the place have been through. As a hospitality professional, what I cannot forgive is awful service and this is what has stuck with me.
I feel absolutely awful for my brother and his new wife who chose this destination for themselves and loved ones for their special day. In my opinion they really should be compensated in some for the treatment they received.
In summary I think it is important for the reasons above (and countless others) that travellers be cautioned about this resort. Terrible service, resort in extreme disrepair and poor food should be enough reasons for agents to refrain from recommending this property.
Thank you for your attention.

Lighthouse Pointe at Grand Lucayan: Great place for a vacation !
This was a great resort .. absolutely stunning views and the service was outstanding. From the people working on the resort to the locals on the beach it made it comfortable to relax and enjoy the night life. The beach is literally a 1min walk from the room to the beach, hottub and pool. The market place has a great selection of local foods and for the adults a great selection of bars and clubs. I would recommend this place for anyone that wants a quiet time or some fun at the bars and clubs .. it's so spacious you can't be annoyed by other party goers ... will definitely be back.

Lighthouse Pointe at Grand Lucayan: Do not trust pics!
My husband and I were there from April 8th to 15th.
We had been told by the travel agent that the resort had been hit by a hurricane last fall, But we were not told the extent of the damage. The resort was only 1/3 functioning. If we had known the full extent up front we would have changed resorts.
The trip started well, the bus driver was fun, the front desk staff checking us in, very friendly.
Then downhill from there. We were not allowed to have a drink till 12 noon, 1 hr after it opened, [... read more]the same for lunch. What was that all about?
The staff in Portabella's, Wave, the Cafe, the lobby bar were for the most part RUDE, unhelpful.
It was as though we were an inconvenience to them.
As the days went by, it did not get better. My husband & I were with a party of 28 people.
Everyone experienced the same apathy.
The food was average in the buffet restaurant.
The restaurant we had to PAY $25 dollars each was better than average, the staff friendly.
Checking out another disaster, 1 person at desk. The bus was held up because of this.
I have to say there were a few exceptions, Pauline & Lily(Lillian) served us on the beach, they were fun, friendly, made sure we weren't getting dehydrated. They deserve a raise.
The cleaning staff, the fellow who played shuffle board with us, and the bus driver to and from hotel were friendly.
We have been to many all inclusives, this was very expensive & very DISAPPOINTING, would not recommend this place to any one.

Lighthouse Pointe at Grand Lucayan: Worst resort I have ever been too
I don't even know where to start with how terrible this resort was. From the moment we checked in the staff was incredibly rude. The resort was only 15% open and the rest was destroyed by the hurricane. I understand that is an act of nature but nothing and I mean nothing was done by the hotel or Sunwing to compensate. There was 3 days my room was not cleaned and I had no water. No in room beverages were provided. We were there for a wedding. The wedding day we wanted some sparkling wine for our [... read more]room well the bride and bridesmaids got ready. They told us it would be a 50$ charge. The wedding menu was supposed to be all plated and day of the wedding they refused ( Even though it was paid for ) the bride was very upset. We paid $2000 per person for an all inclusive experience and it was far from that. The bar was supposed to be open from 11 am till 12 pm and they often closed at 11 pm because they felt like it. I hope that this hotel is never recommended to anyone.

Lighthouse Pointe at Grand Lucayan: It's a good thing we were with a group
I re- read this after posting and it's making it seem like my gripe was with the resort. The resort had nothing to work with. The beach staff and room staff are amazing. The desk or management are worse than terrible. Food was good but no variety. Omelettes amazing. Below is the trip central portion
I, unfortunately, haven't had a worse experience in my travel time. The resort was damaged but there was no offers for making our experience better. Just. "Sorry no" or no reply. We had[... read more] a couple getting married and they actually cancelled their honeymoon portion and didn't give a s-word that they were even there, let alone the 22 others that paid the money. This was an eye opener for myself with singing, that will never happen again, and with a booking company in general. Nothing about this was easy. My apologies.

Viva Wyndham Fortuna Beach: Definitely a 3 Star Resort
The grounds were well kept considering they had a hurricane last fall. Service at this hotel is lacking. The staff that worked in the buffet clearing tables and putting down new place settings were very slow. At one time my husband and I did 2 laps of the entire seating area trying to find a table that had cutlery and napkins and no dirty dishes on them. Over half of the seating area was dirty.
