Sandos Playacar Beach Resort: Fun for the whole family
Went on a couples trip in the adults only club. Definitely a family friendly resort, but nice secluded areas for adults only. Good for the older crowds.. not quite what we we're looking for as younger adults but lovely nonetheless! Great food, staff, beach, pools.

Blue Bay Grand Esmeralda: Resort is huge
Overall our trip was good but we won't be back to this resort. We were in the furthest building from everything so it's a 10-20 min walk to the lobby, food, drink and beach. In the hot sun with no place to rest and little shade. The trolley car that makes a loop of the resort is inconsistent. Sometimes it would go by every 20 min and sometimes not at all for an hour. Our room was musty and clung to our clothes.
The food was mostly good. The a la carte were excellent but the buffet was so so. [... read more]Some dishes were great, others were inedible. Same with the drinks. Early in the day the drinks were great. The later it was the worse the drinks were. The bar staff were run off their feet and let syrups run out on the soda gun.
The pools have no shade while in the water but do have some shade for loungers. However, the only way to get a lounger is to sneak a towel in the middle of the night on one. Don't worry about the No Reserving Loungers signs because they are just for show.
The activities during the day can provide nice bits to your vacation. If you can find where they are. The nightly shows were good or terrible. Mexican night and fire show were excellent. Pop stars and Disney night can be missed.
The sand on the beach was fine sugar sand. We didnt go in the ocean because there is currently a bloom of seaweed in the area and there were massive amounts in the water at the shore.

Barcelo Maya Palace: Great Family orientated resort
We really enjoyed our stay at the Barcelo Maya Palace. The resort has a great location and is very well-maintained and clean. It is an excellent choice for families with kids because the main pool, kids' water park, and entertainment areas are all located close to each other and near the beach. This arrangement provides something for everyone, while also allowing for quieter areas if you prefer.
The beach was nice, with calm waters, although there was a lot of seaweed when it was windy. The w[... read more]ater is incredibly clear, making it great for snorkelling. We spotted many tropical fish and even a few large turtles right in the swimming area, even without snorkel gear. It is advisable to bring water shoes, as there are many stony areas on the shore.
The rooms are spacious, very comfortable, and clean. The food was also good, with a great selection for everyone. It's a large resort connected to three other Barcelo properties, which you can explore on foot.

Catalonia Yucatan: Lovely resort
The resort is small (compared to other Catalonia Resorts) but beautiful and everything is so close to the beach and pools. Rooms are dated but clean and maid service was great. Food was good however it would have been nice to have more options to ala Cartes, as buffet eating does get tiring. However, no complaints on food or drinks. Entertainment team is amazing. El Dorado Seaside Palms: Eldorado Seaside Palms in Riviera Maya is The BEST for a second time! Dad & Daughter Tropical Trip!
This was my second trip to the Eldorado Seaside Palms. The first was in 2023 for 14 days with my wife and the second in April 2026 was a short trip to celebrate my daughter's 30th birthday. Dad & Daughter Only Trip!
With the fantastic help and professionally presented information from Sandra De Faria, we were able to book two Beach Front Junior Suites with King Beds last minute ( in the exact location my wife and I had previously stayed) so we could enjoy the nightly entertainment from the Gu[... read more]acamayas Beach Bar and sit on our decks to people watch and each morning enjoy morning coffee looking at the ocean. While this location is a bit livelier than others away from the beach bar, we were looking for this level of party while there and other locations further away may be more to other folks liking and just as good.
It was a fantastic trip and my daughter's first all inclusive Adult only resort experience. The food from the variety of restaurants was still great after ownership changes in the last few years and there are now More Inclusive Excursion options like a Catamaran scuba dive trip and Cenotes Cave Explorations that are included for no extra cost.
The pools and grounds were pristine and the pool parties were particularly lively this trip with a large group of other Canadian's from Nova Scotia who had flown down their own bands which made it even more fun each of the 4-5 days were there! My Daughter was concerned before arrival that the resort my be too old of a crowd for her, but soon learned there was a great mix of all ages to mingle with while there.
The staff and service was Excellent like before with many familiar faces who have worked there for years and can remember a face...so it felt like coming home, which I truly appreciated living and working in the hotel /resort industry for the last 40 years.
Drinks were great and the bar tenders know how to make EVERYTHING you can imagine so have fun trying to pick the next one while in the pool.
We had time to take in the weekly Fire Show and outdoor buffet extravaganza which was superb with entertainers that really know how to put on a show for the crowd! Each night there were other musical entertainers at various outdoor bar locations to enjoy as you moved around the resort along with a Silent Disco night one evening and acrobats during our short trip.
It was a quick trip that made some really great memories for my daughter and I and we truly look forward to going back again in the future with help from Sandra and Trip Central!

Allegro Playacar: Beautiful Beach and Luscious Grounds
I travelled April 18-25, 2026 with my friend. We were looking for a restful week of sunshine, surf and beverages and the Allegro did not disappoint.
Having stayed at numerous Caribbean Resorts, this resort is older and more basic than most. It is very peaceful.
The room was adequate although we were in building 11 which is THE closest to the Theatre and Lobby. This proved noisy during the nighttime entertainment but we made the best of it. It also proved noisy to be right beside the ca[... read more]rt path the employees take every morning and evening with their cleaning carts or other carts of stock back and forth. One bonus is that they don't use key cards as your wristband opens your room. Our fridge was stocked as we requested and the cleaning crew did a very nice job daily.
The food was good. There were three options for a la carts - Mexican, Italian and Asian. The only thing I did not like was having to line up in the lobby every day if we wanted to book an a la cart for that night. You could only book one meal at a time, the day of. We did the Mexican and Italian. The rest of our dinners were buffet. There is also a buffet at the pool bar but we preferred to have pizza made to order just outside of the pool bar for lunch.
The beach is absolutely huge and the water was beautiful. They did their best to clean up the constant influx of sargassum. We never had an issue getting a chair at the beach or the pool and towels were always available at the towel hut.
The staff are amazing and very cheerful. They were a pleasure to associate with.

Paradisus Playa del Carmen: Great Resort for Families
I travelled with my husband and another couple with a newborn. The staff were very friendly and super helpful. While we didn’t need entertainment for the baby, we noticed there were plenty of activities to keep kids occupied. We also spent some time on the adult side, which was pleasant and offered a good variety of events—creating a nice balance overall.
The pools were great, with lots of seating available. I would avoid the Family Concierge pool, as it always seemed to be the busiest area. [... read more]That said, I do wish there were more umbrellas for shade—it often felt like a scramble to find one, and they weren’t easy to move when needed.
The beach was lovely, with plenty of seating and a volleyball court. There was some seaweed, but it was consistently cleared in the mornings and throughout the day, so it didn’t impact our experience much. If you upgrade to the Family Concierge, the beach chairs and service are noticeably better. That said, overall I don’t think the upgrade is worth it (we didn’t upgrade but did spend a day in the concierge beach area).
The rooms were nice, with comfortable beds. I understand the family side is due for renovations, but even without a facelift, it was still very enjoyable. One tip: avoid a connecting room if you don’t need one—we had to switch after the first night because we could hear the family next door very clearly.
The restaurants were decent overall, and the buffet was actually excellent. Agave stood out as the best restaurant on the property.
We also visited the spa. The massages were fantastic, but the facilities didn’t quite meet expectations. You only get access to the pool, sauna, and steam room for one hour before your treatment, which doesn’t feel like great value given the cost.
Overall, it was a great stay for a family, especially considering the price

Seriously loved everything about this hotel. Food was excellent, pool was very clean and very large, adults only was the way to go. Room was clean and spacious. Service was excellent. If i have to complain about anything it is that the rocks in the ocean but hey that is not the hotel’s fault. Thank you very much for a lovely stay

Dreams Puerto Morelos Resort and Spa: Awesome Resort
We just returned from a girl's trip to Dreams Puerto Morales. We were a little nervous because of some of the reviews that we read and because there is literally no beach. There was no need to be nervous! We had a wonderful time. The resort is beautiful, lots of pools including kids and adult pools. Yes, there were a few areas that were outdated and could use a refresh but overall we were very satisfied.
The food was great. The service was great. Shout out to our poolside server Timo, [... read more]he was amazing! And, to Antonio, the lifeguard/paramed. We didn't actually need his services but he quickly responded to what he thought was an emergency.
I would definitely recommend this resort. However, if a beach is an absolute must for you, then this might not be the place for you.

Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an: Great Vacation As Usual
Sian Ka’an has become our go to vacation place every year. We love the ambience and the welcoming staff who remember you from previous visits. It’s a laid back place but if you want a more exciting vibe you are able to visit the sister hotels via trolley. The trolley is part of the fun !
Love having the choice of restaurants every evening and I’ve never had a problem booking them prior to leaving on holiday. I honestly can’t say I’ve had a bad meal. Our latest discovery was Le Gourmet, the lam[... read more]b chops were delicious.
I had requested a room halfway between the lobby and the Cenote pool as my husband walks with a cane. We were in Bldg 7A. Room # 40701 and I couldn’t have been happier. The room was immaculate and well maintained by the maid and fridge people.
We did the tequila tasting this time and enjoyed it. They give you various fruits, chocolate and yes, bugs to try with the different tequilas. Yes, we ate the bugs !!
The only suggestion I can think of would be provide a microwave at the buffet as sometimes the food gets cold when it’s sitting out.
If you’re interested in getting a tattoo while you are there, you can visit the Hacienda (a shopping and entertainment venue in the complex) and go to Jaguar Tattoo. Ramon and Henry are talented artists. This was my second tattoo and I’m planning my third on the next trip. My husband who had vowed to never get a tattoo also got one last September and loves it.
We will be returning later this year for trip # 7.

Barcelo Maya Tropical: Great resort!
Poos were clean. While snorkeling at the beach, in front of our hotel, we saw many sea turtles. It was fantastic! We also took advantage of the free catamaran ride Food at the buffet was typical for an all inclusive resort. The alacart resteraunts were better. We were able to get all 4 alacarts we were entitled to with the times we wanted.
Landing at Tulum Airport was a breeze. Our plane was the only one there, it was oir first time in Mexico. Really liked this new airport. Now as for the resort. Wow. My first time being exposed to such grandeur of Barcelo Resorts. What a Beautiful Resort. So many activities the 7 days was not enough. We had 10k steps daily that when we got home, it felt like we ran a marathon. Food was incredible. We felt spoiled. We tried 3 ala carts and no disappointments. Pools were outstanding!!! Paradisus La Perla Adults Only Riviera Maya: 10/10
Returned Saturday from a week long trip. What an incredible week. Everything exceeded our expectations. Id return in a heartbeat. The reserve upgrade was more then worth it. By far the best resort we have been to.
Rooms
Temperature was good. kept the room comfortable. Plenty of space. Great view.
Restaurants
Flora, not impressed octopus was over cooked and portions were small. Many kids running around unattended
Blue agave, Great variety of tacos for lunch and great topping bar
Sals, [... read more]Best restaurant by far. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing.
Lemon Fish, Seafood was so fresh and tasty. Lots of variety. Octopus was awesome.
Tokimeku, Had a the hibachi experience. Great show and incredible food. Bog portions
Hadar, Lots of variety. Great tasting food. My only critique was improper signage. Many items did not have signs, left guessing what the food was.
Fahrenheit,Great for lunch. Fresh food great tasting.
Capella, Great variety of fresh pasta. Pizza was good too.
Sante, we came for lunch and breakfast more then once. So fresh, lots of variety.
Our concierge was Eduardo. We've had concierges before. He was helpful, but not overly attentive. But came through in the end for us in helping us get a late checkout.
The family said had ALOT of kids. I dont think ive ever seen a resort with that many kids before. We were very glad we were were on the adults only side. Dinner was much more peaceful and classy.
Beach, soft white sand beautiful. Many available beach chairs.
Reserve pool, its definitely more quite then the Fahrenheit pool. There was no music playing. I didnt want a party pool, but a little background ambience would be nice. the bartender and waitstaff Jairo, Sebastian, and Bladimir were top notch. Alfredo was #1 He was always smiling and singing. He'd go out of his way to get you what you needed. As an added bonus of the reserve, you can book bali beds ahead of time. Amazing perk. But in all honesty, whether it was the reserve pool or the Fahrenheit pool, we never had issues finding pool chairs, even midday.
Staff, I read reviews of the staff, prior to going to the resort. And all the reviews were right. The staff here on on another level above the rest. They were all so polite and professional and courteous. Always willing to assist.
If there is a weak point, it's late night activities and the announcement of activities. The shows were mostly held in the south bar. And we found it to be too warm in there. No airflow. We loved the shows, beautifully put together. But at some times, we would leave mid show because we were over heating. Some over head fans would be nice. I wish there was more outdoor space to sit outside and enjoy a cocktail in the night time.
Location, great location beautiful mangroves on the grounds. The grounds were immaculately kept. Resort is a 20 min walk into town for shopping, Or $25 usd taxi.
We were only approached once for the "time share" meeting. They were polite and not pushy. We politely declined and heard nothing more about it
Gym on the reserve side was small but we never had any issues with our workouts each morning. We went to the la perla gym once as well.
So many fun activities and classes to attend.
Overall our vacation was a 10/10
Resort is smaller than most. Making it easy to navigate and not much walking distance between venues. It's also older than most but is in fantastic shape. The grounds are well cared for. Our room was a fully renovated, "Premium Deluxe". Pools are great. The Beach is not. Although posted reserving lounge chairs is not permitted, you have to be at either by 8am to reserve your lounge chair or you could be out of luck to find a spot with any shade. The food/drink were definitely the star of the sho[... read more]w for the price point. Ala Cartes, Snack Bar, Buffets and Bars were all very good. The resort has a 'no smoking' policy anywhere on the property which we also appreciated. We would return to this resort without hesitation.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: An ok resort if you are not a beach person
Overall: the resort is reasonably pleasant. Grounds are well maintained. I would give it a 3.5 stars.
The Akumal area, where we were, had half of the villas closed and under huge renovation. This caused noise at the infinity pool and dusty, noisy walkways towards the rooms.
Room: was clean but dated. It does need a refresh.
Buffet food: buffet had good choices of food, with various themes for every night. Some of the servers, like Jose, were very attentive, courteous and prompt. Jose[... read more] was friendly, funny and very helpful.
A-la-carte dinners: we stayed for 10 days. While we were entitled to a-la-carte dinners every nigth, it was extremely hard to book anything even 8-9 days in advance. The resort had low occupancy yet, dinners were very hard to book. Some of the service desk curtousy staff (like Marco and Miquel) were helpful and tried to accomodate our requests, but very few requests were successful.
Pools: clean and well maintained.
Night programs: shows were poor quality, not really enjoyable. I’ve been to this resort a few times in the past and at that time the evening shows were nice quality, really enjoyable. This was not the case anymore. Also, after the show was over, there was not much to do.
Beach: this resort is not famous for pristine, sandy beach. It was rocky sand, and the level of sargassum was high. The crew was working long hours to keep it clean. However, if you like a nice sandy beach, with clean water for swimming this is NOT the resort you should chose.
I was a return guest at this report (have been there several times in the past) yet, I did not feel any appreciation for being a loyal customer. I did not expect much, just a tiny bit of extra customer service, especially that it was my birthday as well. Other that a "happy birthday" banner on our room, there was nothing special. Quite disappointed, since it is so easy to make a little surprise.
Summary: vacation was OK, but I will not return to this resort anymore. Luckily there are many other choices to consider for future vacations.

Viva Maya by Wyndham: Wonerful resort!
The food was excellent, everything was clean. Great pool, friendly staff, plenty of beach chairs under palm trees. There was a quiet adult only pool area with hammocks and jetted tub. Excellent evening shows.
