Amazing buffet with a huge variety of items. Truly appreciated the fresh fish and seafood as well as the pasta bar. Beach was beautiful but seating was limited and restricted to a small area of beach. Staff wasn’t as friendly as other resorts but they were professional.

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Perfect! Just what we were looking for...
Went to this resort with my 15 year old son during March Break and had a wonderful time. Pick up from airport was smooth but it is a bit of a hike to the hotel - about 1.5 hr - but we were aware of this so no issue, just something to keep in mind. Check in was seamless and welcoming. Our room was on the second floor and was newly renovated. Bar fridge stocked daily. The beds did not have blankets which I found odd but you could request them via the hotel app and they arrived promptly. Room servi[... read more]ce was also prompt. Very important to me was the number of sun umbrellas at the pool area. Lots and lots available. I did go out to the pool area every morning at 7:30am but just to enjoy the sound of the ocean and birds. Generally people did not come out to get loungers until around 8 or 8:30 and this was during March Break so you could sleep in if you want. Most loungers were taken by 9am. Lots of loungers by the ocean as well. They built a jetty which creates a calm area in the ocean. Seaweed is definitely present but they make a big effort to remove it. Servers at the pool and restaurants were lovely. Appreciated tips but did not expect them. There beach bars and beach restaurant were always quiet with no lines. The resort guests were mainly French and English Canadians. Some entertainment in the evenings. We did not attend many of the shows so can't comment but did go to the karaoke in the 'sports bar' and it was fun. Quiet resort. Not a party zone. Lots of seating in the evening in the main lobby where there was live entertainment and one evening they had the silent disco which was great for people of all ages! The buffet was clean and organized, good variety and generally restocked/refreshed frequently. The seating for the buffet was very nice and generally not overly busy which was nice so it felt relaxed and not chaotic. We did not go to the a la carte restaurants so can not speak to them BUT I highly recommend you load the app at least a week prior to departure and book your reservations ahead of time to avoid disappointment. The hotel app was also useful to know the activities going on each evening. There are trolleys available to take you to your room or to the other sister resorts. Resort is great if you are looking for something chill and relaxed with a friendly, quiet, non pushy atmosphere. The only drawback I can think of was I found there was a lot of traffic on the walkways - everything from trolleys, to pickups, to delivery vehicles, even a full sized dump truck passed me full of seaweed.

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Good resort
The resort is situated in the well maintained tropical garden. This is the most outstanding feature of the resort. The colonial architecture of buildings naturally fits it. Rooms look dated, but kept clean. The eating areas are a bit tight. Thus it is a good idea to avoid rush times.
The beach is nice. Plenty of sunbeds and shady areas. No need to play a reservation game here. Not the same at the pools. While there is less problem finding a sunbed at the bigger pool, the sunbeds/umbrellas at [... read more]the quiet pool are usually all taken by 7-7:30 Signs against reservation are ignored.
The most disappointing thing is the water at the beach. The beach is in a small bay. The water in the bay is not transparent. Zero visibility. Thus no desire to swim. The pull is preferred.
I wish our flight were to La Romana. There were no such flights from our town. The flight to Punta Cana resulted in the long transfer from/to the airport
As a older couple with limited mobility we requested and got a centrally located room making our stay top quality. Great food. Two pools, one for the "party people" and the other a lovely quiet pool. Both with swim up bars and round pool waitress service. Room was lovely and the staff were friendly and efficient. Overall a great holiday.

Bahia Principe Explore Coba: First time to Mexico - Coba impressed!!
We chose Coba as a last minute trip unsure of what we would find based on some reviews, and we don't regret our decision for a second !
The hotel is large enough that even with many clients it never felt crowded.
The lobby is huge with lots of table and chairs to have morning coffee or afternoon drinks. There is a coffee station where you can get your own or go to the bar and have cappuccinos, ice coffee etc. made for you. There are pastries located in the lobby, too, for a quick bite.[... read more]
The pool area is quite large with lots of chairs. I did find the "towel/chair games" were played but there are so many chairs that even when arriving at the pool at 11 am or later we always found a good location, right next to the pool, to sit for the day.
There is a self-serve pop and beer area near the pool bar for a quick drink. The pool bar (swim up and walk-up side) serve up delicious drinks - the only issue we had there was the staff -- they were great, but there was only one bartender on each side, resulting in long waits sometimes.
The main buffet was excellent - always lots of food, and variety. They had everything from the freshest, best donuts we have ever had, to eggs at least three ways (on top of the fresh omelette station), to fruits, meats, desserts, and even tacos and other 'daytime food'.
For dinner there was a lot to choose from - pasta 3 ways, rice 2-3ways, green salad fixings, meats - cooked or cold cut style, Mexican fare, several salads (potato, bean etc.), fresh buns, shrimp, and even nutella/cheese/ham and cheese sandwiches - and desserts and fruit.
For lunch we ate at the snack bar by the pool. They had lots to choose from too. Freshly made pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos and cheese sauce, beans, fruit, ice cream cones and desserts.
We ate at 3 a la cartes, Mikado, Nikkei Mashua and Hindu Restaurant Thali. The beef at the Mashua was so tender you could cut it with a fork. The service we had at all three was excellent, but the standout would be Christian at the Mashua.
The food at Hindu Thali was about as good as I have had in Ottawa for Indian cuisine.
Our room in block 20b was 'dated' but who cares, everything worked fine and was extremely well cleaned. We always had hot water, the fridge refilled, and fresh towels.
The trolleys drive around all the time, there are 'bus stops' but they would also stop and let you hop on anywhere if there was room.
The Sports Bar was fun at night -- there was always soccer, baseball, hockey, etc. on a tv somewhere in it. We watched a few NHL games there at night, and some of the Baseball Classic tournament.
For those who don't drink alcohol there is a great little mocktail list (all of which were delicious) and 0.0 Heineken beer. They did run out of the 0.0 beer in the lobby and the sports bar (or never got a shipment that day?) and it was not offered in the buffet, snack bar, or 2 of the 3 a la cartes we ate at. Only the Mashua had it.
As a non-drinker it was disappointing not to be able to enjoy a "beer" with my meals while my partner had wine/beer with his.
All in all, I have to say we had a fabulous week at Coba. We thought of upgrading before we left but after a day there, we decided to save the money - we did not need anything more than Coba could offer.
We had a great week at the Runaway Bay Bahia Principe Resort. The accommodations were very clean, bright and roomie. The meals were delicious and there was lots of variety. We loved it - can’t say enough about the great time we had!

Bahia Principe Explore La Romana: Nice Resort with a Jelly fish filled swim area, disappointing beach
We booked an Oceanfront Superior room& had to relocate due to a weird sewer smell. Our new room was fine& had great views. Resort is well appointed, nice lobby & great service in all areas. The do require additional servers in the lobby during the evening we would wait for a long time, then eventually go to bar to get our own beverages. The Caribbean Water at this resort is not Blue clear water it is murky brown & full of jellyfish both in water & on the shoreline, due to the nearby river flowi[... read more]ng in, shoreline has a wide deep shelf upon entry, so no swimming here. We had to walk to the end of the far Bay to find a small swimmable area at Corale Beach. No service on Beach, unless in Privilege , but beach bar was close by& provided a good service. Pool is large, loud, but is clean. Lots of loungers to use on the wide beach sitting area.
Rooms were clean, shower/bath dated with low water pressure & only lukewarm water throughout the 10 days. Food is very good, in all areas, the inclusive Red& White Wine offered was from Spain, it was poor quality, of any wines offered at an all inclusive.
We would not return due to the Beach conditions

Bahia Principe Explore Akumal: Amazing Time
We absolutely love this resort and only have amazing things to say! Right from when we arrived, Francisco came out from behind the check-in desk and greeted us and made check in so smooth and effortless, providing all the details necessary for navigating the resort as well as some very cold glasses of champagne. The food choices here are vast, delicious, and fresh whether you go to a restaurant or the buffet. The service is amazing and attentive, and Jose even suggested some delicious drinks we [... read more]didn't know were an option to order. The resort itself is extremely clean, all the natural features are very well taken care of and even the wild animals are chill indicating that there is a happy balance on the resort between people and nature. I highly recommend this resort and it is somewhere we will definitely be returning to (hopefully again and again over the years).

Bahia Principe Explore La Romana: Nice change of place.
After spending many years in Cuba supporting the amazing people with supplies for schools, personal needs and medical supplies it was different to take a vacation for ourselves. We were in Cuba when things shut down earlier in February this year.
The experience at Bahia Principe la Romania, from check in to check out, was truly all about us. The food and drinks were wonderful and the staff, from our room attendant to the servers were so tentative. We really felt pampered. Only the beach, no[... read more]t the lounging area that was exotic
but the water clarity was not what we are used to. Pool was fabulous!
We do realize that DR has it's own issues and appreciate life is happening all around us. Beth McKinley at Trip Central was very informative and helpful booking this vacation for us
.
Thank you for a special vacation for our 50th anniversary ❤️
The Resort was beautiful but we found it a tad too big. The carts were easy to get to go to the beach. It was windy all week, so hard to say whether or not it was a good swimming beach as it was very rough all week. The food was great. The reservation system was terrible. The front hotel lobby check in staff were not very friendly or helpful. I like to be closer to the beach so the other resorts closer to the beach would be nice, but the Grand was very busy. So I've been here done it, prob[... read more]ably wont do it again.

Bahia Principe Explore Esmeralda: Third visit - lovely resort.
Everything was lovely. A few touches i.e., some food at the buffet was cold… but overall food was really good. The resort provided an area downstairs from main lobby where guests could shower after having checked out of room and spending day on beach - before going to airport. The showers only had cold water and there was no soap in dispenser - it was an unexpected touch and maybe more attention could be given to thinking of checking on these things.
Otherwise, had a lovely and relaxing[... read more] time. Staff was very polite and contentious. They always tried to be very helpful.

Bahia Principe Escape Ambar: Friendly Resort
This was our first time to this resort. We have nothing to complain about! The food was amazing, the staff went out of their way to help you. You felt special everywhere you went. The martini bar is awesome ! The staff there made it a highlight of the evening. The pool entertainment was great. We had a lot of laughs and a few dance lessons. So much fun in the foam party to the beach party! We loved the canoe full of beer. The coffee shop was how we started each morning. Definately going back!

Bahia Principe Explore Esmeralda: Love this Resort
This is the 3rd time going to Esmeralda and this past experience was by far the best vacation yet. Hyatt has partnered with them so there were many improvements
The food is 10/10, the rooms have been upgraded and modern especially the washrooms our room was spacious and comfortable. The only negative is they always ran out of toilet paper at the beach washrooms so bring your own wipes because when you tell them it needs restocking they don't understand or speak English well so you leave frus[... read more]trated.

Bahia Principe Escape Aquamarine: Great resort!
Check-in: fast, easy. We had a request for particular building due to a mobility issue and Jedulka was terrific in helping to accommodate.
Rooms: excellent. Large, clean and very good bathrooms.
Dining: ala carts were excellent although booking was a little difficult. But food was great. Buffets were very good too.
Beaches: excellent. Lots of palapas...great sand, no need for water shoes. Some seaweed but beaches were racked daily.
Customer service: Exceptional! Had a leak over our [... read more]toilet, customer service came same day, fixed and followed to confirm there were no issues. Got locked out of mini safe, customer service showed up within 15 minutes. One day our room wasn't made up, we called later in the day and they showed up within 20 minutes.
Pools: always chairs available. Music was a little repetitive but we were at the beach most of the time. Unfortunately pools were closed at 6pm daily for cleaning, which seemed a little early but the pols were definitely clean and in great shape.
Value: terrific value for price. We'll definitely be back!!

Bahia Principe Escape Bouganville: Almost a great place!
What did I like?
It is a beautiful Resort with multiple pools and the beach/ocean all in a surprisingly compact area.
I did not play this trip but the golf course and its facilities look amazing!
The rooms are very nice and clean and the housekeeping staff are all sweethearts.
The a la carte restaurants are fantastic. Outstanding food with great service.
At night, the lobby area is a fabulous gathering area for everyone.
I don't know if it was the booze or the bartenders but the mixed dr[... read more]inks/frozen drinks/cocktails were the best I have ever tasted in my life! They were SO good!
What did I NOT like?
Air Transat flies into Punta Cana. Why? La Romana has an airport!
If I had known this ahead of time, I never would have booked the trip. We had a 1.5 hour bus ride from the airport to the resort (and then back again). The bus driver never went slower than 130 kph and people were KILLED on that shuttle the day after we arrived!
The male staff were great. The female staff were also with the very noticeable exception of those working in the bars and restaurants. To say they were indifferent would be an understatement. To say they really don't give a rats behind if you ever see your drinks would be closer the the truth. No smiles. No interaction. Their attitudes were "What the Hell do you want?" and "Why the Hell are you bothering me right now?" All with a miserable look on their faces.
The buffet was fine but it seemed like it was the same food every time. A limited selection.
There had to be 400 people in the lobby area for karaoke night. Everyone was having a really great time. And then we were suddenly stopped so that some performers could put on some crappy show. Within minutes, the lobby was empty. What a stupid move!
Verdict
Eliminate the bus trip and put a smile on the female servers and this place is close to Heaven.

Bahia Principe Escape Tequila: Perfect resort for a restful vacation.
The Grand Tequila is located in the perfect spot with easy access to the other hotels in this area. The rooms are spacious, clean and tastefully decorated. The only suggestion I have is that there could be a waiter from the bar coming around in the quiet pool offering cocktails.
