Not my type of Resort

The resort was way too big for my taste. The large pools were very clean but completely packed. The beach and ocean were beautiful however the waves stopped you from swimming. The rooms were clean but could have done with an update. The grounds were well maintained and spacious. The food was ok and you certainly wouldn’t go hungry. Not all, but the majority of employees didn’t seem happy and tried to avoid you unless you were tipping.

Not good, not bad

Positive aspects: - very close to the airport - nice beach - decent food - good beds - nice grounds - beach towels - never had issues changing them Negative aspects - check in is very slow...we were 3-4 families arriving together and it took forever...wondering how bad is in the season - The first room they gave us it was next door to the casino....I believe they should use their common sense...and not assign rooms next door to the casino to families who travel with small children -  [... read more]quite a few rooms have AC issues. - As we went in the off season...the resort was full on the weekend with local people, who are noisy. The fact that the ocean was rough forced all of us to stay by the pool. The pool water got quite dirty. - The service in the restaurant - asking for cutlery? you were better off to go grab it yourself from their stations. Same for asking for a soda, water or coffee - The service at the bar - not as bad as in the restaurant...but we definitely had better

Party central ?

Great hotel , beach front. Food was lacking quality. Friday to Sunday is a pure party, locals and all. Definitely recommend but you’ll need to get a room away from poolside to be able to sleep nice and tight

Great Resort!

Resort was clean, staff was extremely friendly. We only had issues with the servers in the buffet, they were very slow and forgot about our drinks most of the time, not sure of this was due to a shortage of staffing. Food was alright, found it to be the same night after night. The grilling stands for omelettes and fresh meat and fish was amazing. Cleaning staff was excellent, disco was a lot of fun. Beautiful resort

We had a beautiful stay at the Occidental caribe the resort its self was amazing and very clean it was nice to see that the staff took pride in there jobs to make your stay comfortable an fun. The rooms were cleaned every day. An towels were supplied. I notice that there were security cameras every were I was very impressed an felt safe. I loved the French an Italian la carta . The buffet was a hit an miss but over all it was good . I recommend you eat at the pizza place it was amazing pizza they have other options there as well for food like burgers an hot dogs an another small buffet close to the pool. Plenty of places to get drinks you can also sit an relax in the lobby when you want to cool off . I was not to impressed with the shows but did like the Michael Jackson show. the grounds an the beach was amazing. Over all I give this resort a 4 out of 5 an would recommend this resort to my family and friends

Super nice!

Very nice resort, well maintained. Our room didn’t look recently renovated, but was sufficiently spacious and clean. We paid a little extra for an ocean view, totally worth it! Pools are great, clean and heated. There is one just for kids, so preschoolers can have lots of fun. Beach: amazing. Out of 7 days, there were 2 where there seemed to be more algae, but it was quickly cleaned. The buffet is huuuge! There is a great variety of food, both Caribbean and international. Not a big deal, but I believe that with better planning, they would be able to offer better service.

Great layout!

The resort layout is great. So close to the beach which has many palm trees for shade. 2 large pools with one being quieter than the other. Plenty of snacks and bars available. Beautiful grounds. The food was good at the buffet. I always found something to eat. We went to 2 À la Carte restaurants, La Hacienda which was good and it also has a daily sit down lunch menu during the day. The other was Tokio and it was the best. If I had one complaint it would be the restocking of the mini fridge [... read more] and towels in our room. I don't think it was the maids fault. They seem to have limited supplies on their carts. All in all I think it was a good place and we would go back.

Great Tesort

The hotel itself was very clean. Just a room, nothing special. The maids had to be asked a couple of times to clean our room. The grounds were well kept. Staff were very friendly and helpful Good was good wherever you ate. Overall had a great time

Nice resort, wrong week

We went during March break, which was unfortunately the same week as spring break for college students. Our hotel was overrun by them. The noise and partying was ridiculous - we were kept up until 5:00 am the first night and every night of our stay was noisy! Didn't get a good night sleep the whole time due to our neighbours and the resort having loud music outside as well. Our room overlooked the pool - not a great spot. The main pool was really nice, but we never got to use it because it  [... read more]was always full of students who were drunk and partying. This resort had the most beautiful beach. We loved the beach and never had to worry about finding chairs each day. The rooms were dated, but okay considering you only slept there. The food was nothing spectacular, but to be expected. Overall would probably go back to this resort, but stay in the upgraded section and definitely not during March break.

Prefect trip!

This hotel was absolutely amazing, super clean, huge resort, good food, beautiful beach, two huge pool and staff was even better! Had a great time when we were away and would definitely go back and would recommend!

Good value

The resort it self was good, the grounds were clean well laid out the pools were big and clean and right up against the ocean which was beautiful. The rooms were dated and needed upgrades. But overall good. The food was average but you could always find something worth eating, the alacart restaurants were mostly good. The main drawback was the staff, most were not friendly to guests it was if the guests were a bother to some workers ,some were very rude and did not smile or talk to guests ,3 da [... read more]ys into our stay the resort was over run by college students on March break and they took over everything and were loud day and all night through out the resort. Over all it was ok we survived and had a good time.

Beautiful resort

Overall had a great time. Went with daughter and son-in-law, 2 ladies in sixties, another couple and my other half. The grounds are beautiful and you could walk the beach forever in either direction on white sand. The water was warm but had some big waves. All right if you are comfortable in the water. The food was hit or miss but not bad. Sometimes hard to find something to eat at buffet. Enjoyed the fish and meat a la carte. Ordered the steak and it was delicious and others ordered shrimp which they enjoyed. The mexican restaurant was only available at lunch but I hear it was good. We upgraded to oceanfront by the kiddy pool which I am glad we did as it was noisy by the bar pool especially in early mornings. The resort is a bit tired needing an update but rooms were clean and once figured out toilet workings all good. For the money not bad but will not be going back.

Great week

The resort was a nice layout with lobby bars and nightly music which I quite enjoyed. The buffet was well stocked. I only wished that there were a second self serve drink station as it took time for staff to get drinks (very busy resort with ++people) and the only station was at the far end of the main buffet restaurant. The French and Japanese a la cartes were great. Italian was okay! and that's all I was able to try. book your a la cartes on your first day!! NO FREE WIFI at all. only "free" if you went to casino and bought drinks/played. 3$/ 15 minutes at a small internet cafe on the 3rd floor. on vacation, so I guess we dont need our phones. but I had never been to a resort with no wifi before. Great value for your money

Beach and pools were beautiful. Food was not bad, Paris was by far the best restaurant! The resort was pretty clean. Maids were hit or miss with their service and it didnt seem to matter how much you tipped. I think you get the most out of your money at this resort!

Awesome Resort

A beautiful resort. Grounds well kept. Staff all friendly and helpful. Restaurants are very good. Everything in walking distance. Great clean pools and beach. Lots of lounge chairs . Well kept rooms. Our absolute favorite resort. Would recommend this resort for all ages. Great for young families as it has kids pools and clubs. Awesome place.❤

Fun Christmas vacay

We had a nice Christmas vacation at Occidental Carribe our room was clean view was beautiful staff was helpful - some language barriers with some staff and others were most friendly and helpful - issue with our safe one day but was fixed within an hour the beach was fun and you can walk forever the pools are clean water aerobics was fun the food was great with tons of choices lots of restaurants and many open air bars Christmas eve gala dinner was our favorite and Louis made it great daily Ramon [... read more] and Richard greeted us and did a great job The excursions were a blast and not far from the hotel and the drive from airport to hotel was not far either We would recommend for sure

Defineltly a four star !!!

The hotel itself was in pristine condition. Not even a blade of grass out of place. The main buffet was not good, always cold. The ala carts were good. The maid service was ok, but had to call for towels and face cloths a couple of times. They don't like to keep the bar fridge stocked up with beer, had to call for it also. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our Transat representative didn't seem to know his job very well. He quoted us a price on an excursion but then came back to us and r [... read more]aised it another ten dollars each. I asked him three separate times if alcohol was included, as my husband and I enjoy drinking while on holidays, he assured us that it was. He was wrong, he sold us a health spa type or snorkeling tour with absolutely no beer or alcohol. We went to see him the next day but it was his day off, and we were leaving the following day. We did see him before we left, with no satisfaction. Claims that he didn't know. So as I said, he did not know his job. We called AIR Transat to complain but they never got back to us and their website was unavailable. One more thing, the beach was beautiful but was unable to go in the water as it was too rough.

Good Resort

Very clean. Staff is not very amicable... and they like to enforce all of the little anoying rules. Also, no free internet anywhere during the day... you have to pay 12$ us for 12 hours... WOW. Was also very hard to get the mini fridge filled correctly everyday (always missing something).

Good Resort

Rooms need to be updated but were clean. Bed was fine..only complaint...maids have to have checklists..almost every day we had to ask for something..towels,soap, minifridge. We found all staff friendly..no complaints.. Food ..ok..you wont go hungry..just more variety needed. Bars..awesome..
