Very clean ,well laid out ,food very good ,service excellent ,all staff are very accurate bar service is quick,20 minutes from airport.3 options for a la carte restaurants no problem reserving.plenty of loungers

Amazing Resort

We booked the resort for a 7 day all inclusive trip. I have to say this is probably the best resort for a low price I have been too. It had all the facilities we were looking for and staff was attentive and friendly. The food was great, as a vegetarian they were very accommodating and my friend who eats meat also enjoyed the food. The entertainment staff was amazing, very engaging and made all the activities fun. Shout out to Chocolate, Pepsi, Wifi and Darling - they made our stay much better by hosting fun games. And everyone was so energetic! This was our first time in Puerto Plata, definitely will visit again. Puerto Plata is less touristy compared to Punta Cana. If you are looking to do a lot of excursions then i would recommend Punta Cana as its closer to the excursion places and there are more activities to choose from. Overall very happy with our stay and will be going again

Beautiful resort Our first all inclusive in years Good excellent Drinking water on resort was good ( not tap water) Could clear up grounds that are otherwise beautiful ( smokers need to use ashtrays and guests trash cans that are available)

Amazing Resort.

16 day stay and everything was perfect. Food and drinks were great. Lots of variety. Polite and kind people work at this resort. Beach was great and long. Venders were very good also. No pressure. We are missing our Dominican family. This was our second time and will be back next year. Thank you Iberostar for doing a fantastic job! Dave Paul and Melanie Jackson

Great resort

Excellent grounds, v.helpfull staff, v.good food selection, top rate. Room was very well located BUT lots of problems with it. Fridge never worked(reported twice, no results).Water leak in bathroom ceiling, fixed after 6 hour leak. Room safe sometimes failed to open, needed staff help to open. Book and paid for a Oceanview room but was given a Pool view room instead, would not change despite me showing them my copy of booking paper. Despite all this, strongly recomm [... read more]end this resort and will go back again. Kids club and staff top notch. Evening entertainment very bland and mediocre. Beach crappy and rough.

Great resort

Overall great experience! The food was amazing and the beaches were beautiful. The music played in the clubs could have been better but still not bad! I would skip all the al la cart restaurants (expect for the Mexican restaurant) and just eat at the buffet, the food is really good and offers a wide variety.

Highly recommend!!!

My second time at this resort and it does not disappoint. Helpful and friendly staff, a beautiful beach that you can walk for miles along. The staff are friendly and very helpful, clean rooms, great food, nightly entertainment and a disco. The peaceful gardens with waterfalls along with all the other amenities gives this resort a 10/10 on my should have requirements at an all inclusive resort. A smoker's paradise

Thumbs up: - Plenty of beach to walk along. A couple of km for sure. - Exterior is lush with palm trees and lots of vegetation. It's beautiful especially at night. - I deal for couples and children. Thumb down: No face towels in the room. Every 2 days I had to request them. No drink service in the common areas. Think self-service when sitting in a lounge chair by the pool or beach or in the lobby area. I knew something was "off" when all I was given during registration was a [... read more] card for my room and a card for my pool towel. No map of the resort. No description of the restaurants and schedules. Nada. The non-smoking area is simply...nowhere. This particular hotel seems to favor smokers overall. Seaweed problem. No decaf in the rooms and no effort was made to get some. In fact, asking for it appeared to bother the front desk. The manager, himself, appeared uninterested in any of my concerns. Perhaps, if I had been a smoker with a family of 3, more attention would have been provided? No problem. I get it. The D.R. is known for scams so if you leave the resort, chances are that you'll get victimized. I got scammed using, of all things, Uber Know that if you are a solo traveller, you won't get the same level of attention. Solo travellers appear to fall through the cracks. Reserving a long chair in the pool area is common and appears to be most welcome. Better get there early if you want a chair. People commonly reserve long chairs for a week at a time. My over all impression of this particular Iberostar resort is that it is using the "Iberostar" brand to attract patrons and since Iberostar corporate doesn't enforce a high standard of quality service in all of its hotels, I will no longer be visiting the chain. I've been to Iberostar 4 years in a row and this was my last.

Excellent Resort

We decided only several days prior to departure to travel to this resort where we stayed in 2013. Our travel agent quickly organized everything and we departed on time with Sun Wing to enjoy a week Iberostar Costa Dorada. This older resort is exceptionally well maintained,very clean and the grounds are truly spectacular. We base our views on 38 prior vacations to resorts mainly in Cuba and Dominican Republic. For example one day he was carrying an arm full of plates to a BBQ on the beach-never at any other resort have we witnessed anything like that! The building are all interconnected to the lobby which means when it rains one does not get soaked. This is important as we found out. The only problem was the seaweed on the beach which the staff diligently tried to remove every day. Otherwise this resort does everything it can to make your vacation truly a fun time

Friendly staff, great maintenance and hot food

Go to the buffet when it opens to get hot food and to get first pick of the food. Throw a towel on the beach chairs to reserve them. Rooms are dated and it’s generally a smaller resort but everything always frequently maintained: staff trimming bushes, testing pool levels, cleaning, refreshing snacks and water. Really impressed! Loved the water filling stations. Lovely deep tissue massage - make sure you emphasize you purchased a deep one to the therapist if you did buy that service just to be [... read more] sure they don’t give you a regular massage.

Decent vacation

Pros: Beautiful grounds and common areas, plenty of loungers at the beach and pool Cons: The room was in dire need of overhaul, it is dated and dilapidating. Very old noisy AC, hot water was intermittent, non functioning TV for several days. Water leaking from random places in the bathroom. The safe in the room opened and reset itself one day leaving all valuables for display. Nothing was gone but this did cause a fright and distrust. The buffet was redundant but acceptable. Not much luxury  [... read more]here. The restaurants served repurposed buffet food unfortunately. Fun fact: Pangasius fish seemed to have several names at this resort. My wife found this funny, me less so. The beach had quite a bit of seaweed in the sand and water but at tolerable levels.

A Good Resort - 4/5

It was a good experience. Rooms and ground were very clean; and the pool and activities were excellent. Activities ranged from: Archery, air-rifling, aquarobics, kayaking, volleyball, bocce, horseshoe tossing, and water polo. The safe in our room was not working (the batteries were loose, so the safe would re-set every time we closed the door), so that was concerning. The food was good. There was a wide selection of meats and fruit, but not a lot of vegetables or local selection (think: to [... read more]stones, mangu, mofongo, habichuelas con dulce, etc). Also, their "Japanese" restaurant did not really serve Japanese food, just generic "Asian-y" food like: spring rolls, fried rice, and a 'sushi' containing cream cheese and carrots. The soda and ice-cream dispensing machines would regularly run out of soda and ice-cream. The coffee (cafe con leche) from the coffee dispensing machines was REALLY GOOD! The service was also good. The servers and bartenders would sometimes ignore you in favour of English-speaking American-looking tourists, but coffee / water / drinks eventually came around. Overall, a 4/5.

Good Time

+ food (big selection), service (well above average), small resort = easy to get around, entertainment team had tons of events - beach (too much seaweed), ocean cloudy, very windy in the afternoon

Great Value for Price

Overall you get a great value for the a very reasonable price. The buffets were good, they had the standard varieties of food options at both locations. The 3 restaurants which you has book before we’re just ok, nothing special. The property was beautiful and very well maintained. The pools were always super clean and maintenance staff were constantly working all day. All levels of staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to assist any way possible. The rooms were very outdated and in need of a makeover, but always clean and well stocked with towels, mini bar items and toilet paper. Wifi was very strong throughout the entire resort, never lost connection once. I would suggest to bring water bottles. Iberostar no longer has plastic water bottles in rooms but water dispensing machines on each floor. Great job reducing plastic!

Awesome Awesome Awesome Resort

Everything was Excellent, the staff is beyond AMAZING. Food was great. Activities were very fun. Did I mention, staff is AMAZING. Pools were very nice. Nite shows were alot of fun. O'Yah, staff was AMAZING.

Great vacation

The gardens are well maintained. Walkways are well lit at night. Compact resort and accessibility to all is easy. If you have mobility issues do not get 3rd floor room. Buffet food was varied and very good. Mexican and Mediterranean were excellent. Japanese was good, could use a little more flavoring. Staff were accommodating. Some areas of the resort are a little tired, need updating.

Iberostar Costa Dora

Very nice facility with numerous things to do, combined with a wonderful staff. Place is old (20yrs) and needs some updating, but the place is not run down or dilapidated. Food was good, as was the Dining Room Staff. Our room, and the furnishings were also old and tired, they needed renovating/updating, but everything was clean and worked well. The beautiful surroundings, relaxing environment, and friendly staff made our vacation quite enjoyable.

Great vacation!

We really enjoyed the resort but the rooms could use updating. The food was great. There was always plenty (in fact too much) that I liked. There was always plenty of activities going on and you were invited to join in but no pressure. Nice to have the wifi throughout the resort too!

Nice Place

Overall we enjoyed this resort. It was easy to get around and restaurants, bars etc were close and easy to find. Beach chairs and pool chairs were very good and easy to find. Only a few things we Didn’t like. Resort was very stingy when pouring wine to the extent that when they poured wine into our glass we immediately went to the bar and brought back plastic cups of wine to add to the meaner amount that was originally served. Apparently they do this as instructed by senior management. Also on [... read more] several occasions the bars were not restocked until a few hours after opening. No draft beer was available on at least 3 mornings as well as certain kinds of liquor. Lobby bar was too close to the disco and theatre making it very loud instead of a quiet retreat. There were also too many people smoking everywhere. The serving staff were not well versed in English making it very difficult to get answers or place an order.

A Well Thought Out Resort at last!

First thing we noticed were ramps and very few steps which I haven't come across in past resorts. And the rooms were covered so you were able to get to the lobby and most dining areas under cover if raining. The resort was smaller than I was used and only had one pool but it was a large pool with a shallow area for kids and of course a swim up bar. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was very good with a good selection. Lots of dessert choices. Three alacarte restsurants-Japanese, Mexican and Mediterranean. The coffee could use some improvement but then we discovered the coffee machines in the main dining room and the smaller buffet area which had a big selection of specialty coffees. The beach was nice but the water was very choppy. Lots of chairs poolside and at beach.
