The RANCHO LUNA beach was a disaster

Hi: Among many visits that I made to this resort in 30 some years, the beach was very dirty for the duration of first week, due the strong winds that were blowing for four days prier to my coming. I never seen it like this. There was a lot of debris of plastics of all kinds. The smell was awful. It took them more than a week to clean it up. The food was satisfactory to my taste; variety was also OK. On the weekends, the place was full of Cubans; have to say, they can be quite disrespectful  [... read more]to other guests. I can't understand, why they have to carry their drinks into the pool. A lot of plastic cups and straws were scattered in and around the pool even on Monday. There were very small amount of regular Canadian tourists. On the whole, my stay was quite nice. Yes, I will go to this resort again in the future. Stayed from 10 to 24 of June/17. . .

Nice place ..but

There are far too few shady spots to sit to escape the sun on the beach and by the pool. We booked adjoining rooms because we had our 3 young grandchildren. We had to spend a night several rooms away from each other the first night. One room had extremely hot water the other only tepid in the showers. Selection of food was better than many of the other places we stayed at. Encounters with staff members was pleasant some were extremely gracious. Safe bottled water is not provided in your rooms as in all other places we've stayed in Cuba. The room had a carafe where you could pick a bar and get some water for your needs, I suspect that sometimes it was tap water that was provided.Bottled water is available for purchase in the small store on the grounds. The grounds were beautiful, well kept, and mostly free from the litter that tourists leave behind in their wake. I would go back, my husband & eldest granddaughter say no.

Summar vacation

This is our first experience in Rancho Luna. We did not like the beach, but Beach Bar is a super place for relaxing. The lunch is served there, so people don't have to go back to the Restaurant. The food is good, cannot complaint, but would like to see more varieties on the table. The room is clean and the staff is very helpful and courteous. The shuttle bus to downtown is a bonus. We enjoyed our stay in Rancho Luna

Amezin resort

very good resort well kept grounds ,rooms basic clean food good and plenty close to the airport and to the city of Cienfuegos LOVE IT been there many many times , never had any problem be back very soon one more time this year .

Average resort

Everything else is three star except is hotel is bugs infested including the bedrooms. otherwise it is good for the price you pay. But they can clean up this very easily. Gym use to be good but now all the machines are gone.

Problem with the room

we think the hotel is ok 100% the problem is with the room that we asked for one month in advance was not done after the hotel eccepted our demend. i remember even you asked for the room and they told you its done. we cant walk normally like healthy person,so this is the reason to rethink rancho luna next time. the person in 216 was placed from toronto at the same day like us this person told me thy didnt asked for aniyhing or any room they was just placed there imre marosi an [... read more]na marosi

Good reasonably priced resort

The staff was always cheerful and great to deal with. The food was decent (not great) but there was plenty to choose from. While there, we didn't get an Al Carte dinner. The room was clean but it definitely could use an upgrade. The air conditioner in our room worked fine. The grounds are well cared for and the beach was cleaned up daily. Took the shuttle twice into Cienfuegos - very enjoyable.

Ok Resort

Resort was ok, no problem with the hotel, food was good, housekeepers were amazing. We paid for Ocean view, didn't get it yet people that didn't pay for one got them, so I would advise not to pay for Ocean view. How ever found front line staff, reception, bar staff there was a huge language problem. At the bars basic drinks, had to go off resort to get Cocktails never had that problem in Cuba before. Been to 3* Cuba many times before and never came across this.

Exceleent value

Second time at this resort, and was not disappointed. Sure, it is a little older, a few things need fixing and sprucing up, but the people are super friendly and do whatever they can to make your stay pleasant. Did not see TOO much of the lecherous old men with the young Cuban girls, so that was nice. Food is never great in Cuba, but there was always something you could enjoy, and it was actually better than I would have expected. Authentic resort

We had a great week at ranch Luna in Cuba! The resort is older, but certainly didn't lack any of the necessities that we needed for the week. Great service, friendly, helpful staff, food was certainly plentiful and tasty. Something for everyone. Very large pool, great for all ages. We enjoyed the beach, and ocean. Free shuttle into the city, a great way to see the country side and Cubans. Felt very safe and we would go back next year.

Good value for money

Nice folks nice location. Would recommend.Must say no fancy drinks at all. Pina Colada or Mojito would've been nice. Close to airport and city of Cienfuegos with free daily shuttle or 10 cuc taxi each way.

great bang for the buck. good pool , good staff, food is ok but not great, rooms are clean. Fred Ponergrac was very helpful as usual. He really knows his stuff and always gives us great service. would not use anyone else

Fabulous Holiday

I have been to this hotel many times and found the buffet to have a much better selection then before. Turkey, ribs, shrimp and callamari were just a few of them . The rooms are older but kept very clean. The Olympic size pool was a great place to spend the day when not lying on the beach. The hotel grounds are kept so nice with gardens and sculptured ficus trees. The hotel staff are all very nice and helpful. Clean, comfortable, 15 mins. from Cienfuegos airport!!

As previous reviewers have stated, this is a budget-friendly 3-star resort. Room was clean, bed comfortable, always had hot water, clean towels every day, friendly maid staff (Barbara!!). Our inbound flight was delayed (we arrived at the hotel at 10:30pm) - Luisa, our Hola Sun rep was very pleasant, knowledgeable and directed us to the dining room which had been kept open to feed us! Check-in was quick and efficient. I had asked for a ground floor room but was assigned 2nd fl...first thing next  [... read more]morning I was given a choice of 4 rooms and as soon as it was cleaned and ready I moved in. Well done!! Huge, clean pool, lots of lounge chairs, some shade under 3 pergolas and the overhang of pool bar. Always ice and bottled water available. Food was actually better than expected, and better than Palma Real (Varadaro). Eggs/omelettes every morning, fresh fruit, endless fruit juice. Really good pasta bar at lunch and dinner, choice of chicken, fish, pork, beef (I just wish they'd learn to not overcook EVERYTHING!!). Staff are attentive and helpful. Disappointing a la carte restaurant which you could sign up for as many nights as you wish. They only have one restaurant and it is completely lacking in ambiance. It was not a 'theme' restaurant (ie. seafood, Italian, BBQ) The food appeared to be the same as the buffet, but it was served at your table. And just a pet peeve...chill the white wine please, and DO NOT chill the red!! Snorkeling off the beach was fun (I took my own gear and spoke with others who brought scuba gear). Free use of 'beach toys' included a few paddle boats, sit-on kayaks and a catamaran (which they skipper..you can't take it out by yourself). Sand is coarse but gets softer as you walk toward the sister hotel 5 mins. away. Swimming is also better down there. Evening entertainment is lacking. It's mostly LOUD, canned music/videos. They had a couple of bands during the week (for one hour) and one costume show. evening. Hotel is 15 mins. from Cienfuego airport and 15 mins. from town of Cienfuego. Hotel offers free shuttle to town every day. Internet access at hotel is very poor. One working lobby computer. Internet cards (1 hr for 2cuc) available at hotel and Internet connection much better in pretty park in town square. Connectivity can be elusive...re-connecting throughout a 1 hr. session can occur multiple times, but I was amazed that I could connect Cuba with western Canada, 5,500km away!!

Beautiful Resort But Not Happy

We had been to this resort 8 years ago and decided to go again. We upgraded to an ocean view room. We arrived into our room at around 11:00 pm. It was dark and we couldn't see anything outside our sliding door. When we woke up in the morning we opened our curtains to look at our beautiful ocean view but all we saw were tiles and sky. Our ocean view was blocked by 6 feet of tiles piled up outside our room. We were told the tiles have been sitting there for around 8 months.When we booked ou [... read more]r room they knew that these tiles were blocking the ocean view. Anyone that books and pays a lot of extra money for this ocean view room will get an obstructed view. That same day we went to the front desk and told them we would like to change rooms and explained why. They told us there were no more rooms, they were full for the week. Later in the week when our rep Louise asked the front desk about changing our room, they told her that they didn't say we couldn't change as the rooms were full. They then proceeded to tell Louise that we didn't pay for an ocean view room and we certainly did. We have our receipts to prove it. We never did get our unobstructed ocean view. We met people who booked a garden view and got upgraded to an ocean view room for free. Not happy at all with the rudeness and sloppiness of the people at the front desk. Not happy that we splurged and paid money for an ocean view room that was obstructed. There were 3 bars. The main bar, the pool bar and the beach bar. The pool bar and beach bar were great. They had the booze we wanted and the bartenders were amazing and were very friendly. The main bar was terrible. No gin, no dark rum and most of the alcohol tasted watered down. Every time we asked for rum or gin they say they ran out, but they never had it. Also, the bartenders were rude and many times ignored women and served the men. Also, they did not even attempt to serve people in the order in which they showed up at the bar. Therefore, you sometimes waited at least 15 minutes before you even got served. Why didn't we go to the pool bar or beach bar then? Well, the pool bar and the beach bar closed at 5:00 so the only bar open was the main bar. The alcohol at the main bar was so bad, that I had to resort to buying dark rum and vodka coolers from the on site store for the whole week. There goes my all inclusive I paid for! All in all I had a good time with friends in the sun but I am really disappointed in these things at the resort. On a good note, our maid in room 236 was fantastic. Our room was always spotless, lots of towels and she made a towel animal every night. Great job. Very happy with her. Also the servers in the dining room were very polite and kind. They were also very attentive getting us drinks.

Good value for the money

Clean rooms friendly staff every meal was a surprise but you could always find something to your liking Good value for the money Cuban air was a good flight and we actually got a snack The beach was small but clean Free bus rides into town was a great feature

Great experience!

It was our first time in Cienfuegos and Rancho Luna. We liked our small and clean room. A/C worked well, water pressure was great. The ground was very well kept, beautiful trees, big pool. We managed to find plenty of food for vegetarian eaters. Papaya every day was delicious. The beach is good for snorkeling, bring fins with you since seaweed grows close to the shore. There were some spots to bath without any seaweed. The water was calm so we swam far away. Service was great! Good value

I spent two weeks at Hotel Rancho Luna, from February 26 > March 12, 2017, at a cost of approximately $1226. That was certainly good value for the money. Since it's in a small bay, the ocean was generally calm = good for snorkelling and swimming. Much of the ocean bottom was grassy, however, which bothered some people. The beach was kept clean, with ample chairs, although it's not the lovely white sand you might find elsewhere in Cuba. The room was somewhat small, but more than adequate. T [... read more]here was plenty of hot water and good water pressure. The AC unit worked well, and there were ample stations available on TV. Horseback riding was free, if you remained on the property. Catamaran rides were also free, and there were paddle-boats and kayaks available. The pool was large and clean. There is a 24 hour lobby bar, and decent pizza at the pool bar [until 1:00 AM]. The beach restaurant bar served a pretty good fish lunch: avoid the hamburgers, however. Generally, food in the buffet was pretty good. The grilled fish, chicken, pork or liver was quite tasty, and the battered fish was excellent. Potatoes were available in abundance, and the baked squash and pumpkin were good. Turkey or baked chicken was served 3 or 4 times. Breakfast was always excellent, with a good variety of fruit, tasty strawberry or plain yogurt, white cheese, and fresh eggs. The breads [albeit white only] were fairly good. There were some excellent servers [Cassandra, Roberto, Mario, Marty, George] in the buffet. Take Canadian, not U.S. money: it can be exchanged at the lobby desk [14 C.U.C.'s from $20]. There is a free shuttle bus into Cienfuegos every day. The city is worth seeing. Cubana Air was fine. From Toronto, you can take two suitcases of 23 kg each. On the flight there, they sold cans of Cristal beer for $3.00 Canadian. The airport has a small, but adequate Duty Free Shop. Cuban honey was inexpensive, and the usual liquors were available, as were cigars. You could buy a cold Cristal at the snack bar for 2 C.U.C.'s. I'm happy to recommend this resort.
