Nice Resort

Everything was fine but should fix the very strong sewer smell at the beach bar. Beach is beautiful and employees were very helpful and very friendly!! Was in the 200 section and was close to everything. This was an older section but the room was very clean and ac worked great. Had fun using the old hair dryer which was a hose from the wall. Took a little longer to dry my hair but did the job just fine.

Beautiful Resort

A great well kept resort, updated rooms with great new air conditioners. (600 Block) The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are spacious. The food is reasonable and condiments are available (they could put a few grains of rice in the salt and pepper shakers). The beach is just awesome and the water is warm, great for swimming. The pool is nice with no shortage of loungers. We tried all of the a la cartes, our favorite was the Tex-Mex (try the Pork Chops). We spent our evenings in the Lobby B [... read more]ar listening to the very talented Pianists playing there. We found some of the staff somewhat indifferent to us but this is Cuba. Be aware that when the breeze stops blowing the mosquitos come out in the evening, even in the Lobby (take your Deep Woods Off). All in all, an awesome Vacation spot!

Wonderful resort for Families

The hotel was great for our family of five. The room was very clean and the various restaurants (both buffet and ala carte) ensured there was something for everyone. Service was wonderful and the staff were friendly and courteous. It was our first time in Cuba and we had heard so many negative reviews, but am glad to say that we had a Positive experience and have let our friends know about this hotel.

Beautiful Resort

Grounds were always well maintained, rooms were cleaned everyday. Beautiful Towel art a major plus...Staff were extremley friendly and polite. Resort needs a little updating, but it was fine for our stay and the price we paid. Food typically Cuban.. so not great, but not bad either. Beach was a major plus. The beach location was one of the best i've been too. It was to die for!!. Ocean was beautiful too. All in all it was a great vacation.

Good deal resort

Evetything good, staff nice, room perfect, beach beautiful, the only thing complaint is too many insects in the room, cockroach, big flies, mosquito, lizard, very scary.....! Not sleep well......! Overall good!

Classic and clean

This hotel is older but well maintained. The grounds are clean, the restaurant well stocked and very friendly service. The beach bar and beach restaurant were fantastic. The grill was fantastic - fresh fish daily. The bar closed at six, would have been nice I f it were later so we could have a cocktail while watching the sun set. The beach is beautiful. Fantastic Holiday!

We stayed at ROC Arenas Doradas March 13-20 and loved it. We have been to Cuba several times before and know what to expect from the food. We are there for the beach! Beach is amazing, did come home with sand flea bites although we never saw any. All staff were very friendly, humorous and helpful. Shows were great, resort was a perfect size, grounds very well maintained. Rooms are pretty basic but we are only in them to sleep anyway. We would definately recommend this resort as we have nothing negative to comment on - Tip - bring bug spray, lots of mosquitos at night.

Good price, good resort

The staff were pleasant, the accomodations were suitable. This was my first time in Cuba and think it unfair to compare to Mexico or other more commercialized beach destinations. The resort food was better than I had expected. The staff were great, the layout was nice and the beach was beautiful. I would recommend the place to others but I am likely to stay closer to Varadero on my next trip to Cuba.

Had a good time

We went here with 28 of our friends. We all enjoyed ourselves and came for the weather. The beach and thepool are beautiful. Food is very bland and rooms are outdated and basic. They are clean though.

Disapointing, on most frtons

The food was poor, the Jacuzzi had no water, the lazy river had no water, cockroaches in the rooms, birds in the restaurants, and cats all over. To sum up the trip, the service was great and the drinks were cold, however all other aspects of the trip were quite disappointing.

Great vacation for your $

Entertainment and Staff are the best. Lots of games to keep us from ever being bored! Grounds are kept clean and tidy. Great beach with easy access and bar and restaurant close by. Nice lobby with coffee bar and a main bar with a big screen TV. Food was ok to pretty good depending on the day, they did change it up quite often. Chicken and pork very good, beef was usually tough. Pasta was great. Rooms are ok but beds are pretty hard, an upgrade here would be great.

Terrible!

Classified as a four star resort yet should only be a two star resort. Only source of food was a buffet that was lacking, a la carte restaurants are impossible to get into,of all the guests we met, couldn't get into a la carte. There is no WIFI even for payment as the website erroneously advertises. There is ONE computer that you can purchase an Internet card for. Lots of peddling by local merchants and even staff. The beach is beautiful but water activities in. Snorkelling were not available as [... read more] advertised. No bikes, no night time entertainment besides 45 minute show (it was alright) and a dance club that was for teenage locals. Rooms were dated and seemed scuzzy, can't flush TP, supposed to throw in bucket adjacent to toilet thought the resort. Very disappointed with the resort. Only one bar open past 6 pm, nothing else to do...

Relaxing holiday

When we went to the hotel, our room was not ready. But after talking to the customer service person, Berta, we were given a one-bedroom suite with three beds(one in the living room). The unit was spacious, clean and came with A/C, a mini fridge and a safety deposit box-all in good working condition. Since this was our second visit to this hotel, we wanted to find out whether the service provided at the hotel has improved over last year. In the case of the main restaurant, the quality and diversity of the food is much better than last year. Many of the servers were also pretty good, especially Islay, our waiter. I would give the main restaurant a solid B+. As for the a la carte restaurants, the Italian was our favourite. The food was so good that we went there twice. It deserves an A. The international and the seafood restaurants were also good and we would give them a solid B. Only the Cuban restaurant cannot be evaluated because we did not visit it. The beach is sandy, clean, and the waters were calm. Whenever we went there in the morning, the chap working there got us seats wherever we wanted. Unlike last year when there was a large influx of noisy Italian tourists, this time around it was much more peaceful and quiet. We split our time between the beach and the pool. The pool was clean but a little congested and therefore harder to find a seat. One redeeming feature is that the noise level at the pool was much lower and more tolerable than last year. We understand that a new general manager has taken over since our last visit and that he is largely responsible for the improvements. This may be true because we saw him at the main restaurant during mealtime. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience and we hope to visit the same hotel in 2016.

Nice

The hotel was clean some of the staff very friendly. Food was okay the alcarts not very good. The flies were awful don't spray at all. Beach was okay except for the sand fleas. Overall for the price was good. Shows at night were good but the best was the Michael Jackson this was excellent. The lobby bar was great but pool bar an beach bar wasn't

Comfortable, relaxing trip

As a woman in her late 50's travelling alone, I felt very safe at this resort. The staff were friendly, the Housekeeper was very pleasant and very appreciative of the tips and small toiletries that I left for her. The food was a bit bland but certainly adequate. The room was fairly plain but clean and comfortable. The balcony door never did lock even after 2 repair visits from "the mechanic" but there was a safe included in the room to store valuables, and I found a stick to put in the sliding d [... read more]oor to prevent it opening enough to enter, plus the room was on the 2nd floor - don't sweat the small stuff. Catamarin sailing trip and the "Havana Special" trip were fantastic, highly recommended. I wanted a comfy safe spot with a beautiful beach to relax for a week and this was just right.

Very Good

We stayed between Xmas and New Year 2015 for 7nights in this wonderful hotel.The location is absolute great We were lucky to get a 'free' room up grade to one of the superb loft conversion - close to the pool. beds -Nice ! .

Roc Areras Doradas for the 2nd time!

Hi! We returned to Roc Arenas Doradas for the 2nd time in December (15-25). The hotel hasn't changed much from last year. Rooms are comfortable and very clean, the shows were terrific, the beach is one of the best I've ever seen and the Cuban workers were all amazing, doing their best to please you. The only thing that was not 100% satisfying was the buffet and the meals in general... but you have to expect this in Cuba with the American embargo, etc. Will I go again, well maybe, if the price is [... read more] right, for all the above reasons. And what I enjoy most about this resort is that it is small, so we're close to everything, and a bus takes us free to Varadero's centre, which is worth it.

Decent resort - good value

Just came back after spending 10 days at this resort, family vacation with 2 kids, 4 and 13. Had a great time. The beach is beautiful. The resort is small enough that you can get to the beach even from the main restaurant in about 5 minutes. Very nice feature when you have kids who want some independence yet you want to be able to find them fairly quickly. Great entertainment team, with games and volleyball taking place from 10 am until 5 pm, so the kids always have something to do should they g [... read more]et bored swimming in beautiful water. The restaurant stuff is hit and miss, yet we were lucky to meet a couple of amazing servers, who always had a table set for us, and were looking after all of our needs. Our maid was also going above and beyond - I just mentioned that our faucet was not not working well, and the door lock was very tight. Before I had a chance to go to customer service, she took it upon herself to inform the front desk and bring the service guy to my room even before we returned from the beach that day! Needless to say - tip these people! A couple of pesos here and there will not break your bank, but will definitely encourage consistent friendly service. Food was OK - breakfast always great, with lots of choices.Lunch and dinner always had a pasta and grill stations with lots of fresh fish/meat/pasta to chose from. However, some days the line was way too long, and when the kids are hungry no one wants to stay in line for 20 minutes. The choices at the hot table were very similar every day, so you have to be creative to make a different meal :) However, everything was fresh. Overall, we always could find food to make a normal healthy meal for everyone. The room however, needs to be updated - everything worked, including the AC. However, bathroom tiles are old and mouldy, mattresses and pillows need to be changed. The hotel needs a renovation, that is for sure. However we spent minimal time in the room, and the maid ensured that it was spotless every day. I would go back

Great value for your money

The hotel insider but well kept. The buildings,grounds and beach are clean. The service we received was excellent. I travelled with 6 young adults. One of which is a picky eater. She managed to find food she really liked. THe others loved the food. The entertainment was very good. We couldn't wait for the shows. All in all it was pleasant the hotel could use some upgrades but it was good.

Friendly staff

I recently traveled to roc arenas doradas with a lady I look after who is disabled, and they accomadated us at every turn.the grounds are quite lovely. I think it may be time for new mattresses, but otherwise one has to remember where they are going and that it isn't a 5* hotel! but the staff make it seem that way
