Wonderful

Great stay at the Occidental Punta Cana. Food was very good and varied. Nice a la carte restaurants. Beach is beautiful. Property well maintained and clean. Only negative room not ready for check-in.

Beautiful Grounds

This resort is beautiful! The grounds and pool are very well maintained. Entertainment in the stage is very good but not much for entertainment in the main lobby bar. Food selection was not great but not too bad. Our biggest complaint would be water in the bathroom for showering. In the afternoon there was little to zero water ... seemed to be a regular occurrence. Overall, I'd rate this hotel a 4.0 / 5.0

Good Resort

We were happy with the room, pool and beach. We asked for the phone to be connected but it never happened. We drink diet coke and it had limited availability. Our friends had questionable service from their section (11) concierge but section 22 for us, the young man was very accommodating. Overall we enjoyed ourselves.

Amazing trip

Traveled with my fiance week of Jan 28th - Feb 4th/2018, 3rd time at that resort. Newly renovated rooms and lobby which looks amazing, ground very nice and well kept!! Staff amazing as always, very welcoming. Food is very good, ate at 2 a la carte, Steakhouse and Mexican is very good and tasty. Amazing Beach and spotless resort

We arrived at the resort and found it very clean. When we arrived it was 6pm and were were starving. It was the change over for diner and nothing would be available for an hour, so we sat down for a drink and ask the waitress where we could get something to eat,she came back and told us the taco venue doesnt open till for another house but she got the chef to make us something. We placed our order and notice the table beside us were served and 20 minutes later they realized that they gave our order to someone else and picked it up and gave it to us. We told then that we wont accept the food as it was at another table. We waiting another 30 minutes and not service. We decided to go and told the Wine Stewart our reason, He was very gracious trying to fix it for us but we decided to go to the buffet. The following evening for dinner we had reservations at the oriental restaurant and we walk up the Wine Sttewart (jose Sallamon) was waiting for us. He came and said I want to make it up to you for yesterday so Im going to take care of you. We walked in and they had our table ready with a bottle of Champagne chilling for us. We were so impressed that they made sure they fixed there mistake. To me that is a 5 star resort. All Restaurants were amazing food, beach absolutely beautiful, I am going back

A wonderful place to visit

Very clean and modern resort. The food was very good at the buffets and the la cartes. Service was good . The beach front the best on the beach. The crews usually had it cleaned before six in the morning. Only bad thing was the smokers.

Amazing Resort

All the public areas were kept in imacculate condition. The whole experience at the Occidental was 5 star. All the wait staff were a joy to be around. The nightly shows were very well executed and high energy. All the entertainment team worked very hard and their enthusiasam was infectious.

First time visit

Great beach!! Everything was very clean. The food was good however the service at the Mexican restaurant was very slow. Very good variety of food. The water and hydro went out one night in our room. Our room was large and clean. One day it took a while to get towels but only one. Impressed with how safe it was at the beach and lots of security around. Recommend it good value for the money.

Decent

We most recently spent 10 days at this resort. The resort is very well maintained and modernized. Rooms are beautiful and grounds immaculate. Food was excellent, service was good right from the maids to the bars. For the 24 hour food there was just the pizza available upstairs that they cooked in a wood burning oven. It was delicious but a little more choices would be better. The beach is beautiful, white sand however the time we where there the water was very rough due to the winds. Lots [... read more] of vendors on the beach but if you say "no" they will move on. I enjoyed the markets we went to, we visited 2. 1 way down the beach and the other right outside the front of the resort. The markets have better deals than the vendors on the beach. The resort is large so we did get our share of exercise for the 10 days. Switching rooms isn't always an option. The shows where not good. Only 1 night they had a circus show which was nice. The rest of the nights not good at all. If your looking to hear Dominican music either day or night, you won't. Which I thought was strange since we where in Dominican. Would we go back, that would depend on the deal. It's good for R&R. The weather was excellent the whole 10 days. We did 1 excursion which was a nightmare. The Soana Island one. I would not recommend it as we spent the better of 10 hours of the day in transit between buses and boats and only on the island for 1 1/2 hours. Not a good day at all.

Wonderful hotel

this is my third time at Occidental and again it was wonderful the service as usual was terrific so friendly,you couldn't complain about anything that's there to the food, shows the weather hurt us for the first couple of days with rain but after that fabulous if anyone is reading this and hasn't been to the occidental i would really recommend this resort

Much needed vacation

I have personally been the Occidental Punta Cana once before in 2013 and stayed in first club with my parents. I instantly fell in love, the people were so friendly, the food was amazing, and the resort was stunning. This time around I decided to show my boyfriend the place I fell in love with. We decided to stay Royal Club this time. Everything was a breeze when we first got to the airport, boarded the plane, and were transferred to the resort. Within the next 45 minutes our room was ready early. amazing customer service. The next day we met with the Transat rep who was phenomenal. We decided for our excursion to go adventurous and go zipling and the dune buggies. Both excursion were fantastic. All in all Trip Central did an amazing job with the booking of this trip. Air Transat got us there and back safely and the staff at occidental Punta Cana made us want to rebook again. Highly recommend going here

Great resort

this was a very nice hotel, rooms were large, very clean, ceramic showers, the beds and pillows were out of this world amazing. food was good, very acceptable. Grounds were always clean, people were very nice, drinks were good and strong.

Amazing resort

Me and my husband booked the package to occidental resort as our honeymoon treat. Overall, we LOVE the place. Food is great, buffet changes almost every meal, staffs are helpful especially Elizabeth from the front desk, Linn who’s helping to book excursions and Leonardo from the bar. And the activities a [... read more]nd dancing with staffs were so fun as well! Would definitely recommend to people. The only negative part of our trip: 1. It’s a package with air transat airline. The representative of transat at occidental was extremely rude and impolite. He didn’t show up the first day we arrived and we wanna arrange our schedule. We booked three excursions from the resort and next day the transat guy immediately changed his attitude to us and said we SHOULD book with transat and was even suggesting we should go ask our money back to book with him. We understand it’s about commission fee he could get but we hope air transat can pay attention to this behavior because he ruined our mood that day with his rudeness. It is not supposed to be like this. 2. Everything, mostly at occidental is inclusive. But of course nothing is free. You pay for what you get. The a la Carte restaurant wasn’t good. I waited 45 mins in the seafood restaurant after I ordered. And they promised to give us honey moon package but was a very unpleasant experience for us.

we found the resort the perfect place for all expectations (sports, relaxation, fun ambiance,younger and older crowds mix very well. The rooms were perfect, the air conditioning smelling like fresh air . The service was more than good it was excellent. The hotel reconcile me with Dominican Republic . I had super bad experiences in the past at different resorts and believe me i am not a complainer on vacations. Delicious! I totally recommend this resort and if somebody find flaws with this place maybe staying home is the best solution! Also big MERCI! to trip central for their dedication. Beautiful Place, Bad Service

This resort and it's beach were undeniably beautiful. If a nice beach is a top priority, this was a great beach in DR. TONS of people selling; it was not very peaceful as you were constantly interrupted by someone trying to sell something. The A La Carte food was fantastic; the rest of it was not good and actually made me feel quite sick. Half renovated, half not. The renovated parts were very nice. When we arrived at the resort at 1 in the morning, myself and 13 others booked through Transat were told the resort was full and they shipped us to another resort at 3 in the morning. Finally got checked in and into bed by 5 in a dingy room in a dark corner of a 3000 room resort. No apologies from our provider (Transat) or the resort itself. Nothing was done to remedy the mistakes made. I hate when people leave reviews that are only negative because this is paradise, how could it really be that bad? We had a few nice days in the middle of the week where nothing went wrong, and the resort as I said was gorgeous. Overall, I would do anything to get my $1400 back because I work hard for my money and it was wasted on these businesses. They provided poor service with awful communication and did nothing to compensate us afterwards. I did not even receive a response about our complaint until 2 months after we had returned. I wanted one night's worth of my trip refunded to compensate for the full day we were exiled from our resort, and they refused. I will never book through any of these channels again and I recommend others heed my warning. If you really like the look of the resort, take a chance and go for it, but don't book through these providers.

Couldnt have asked for a better week!

After seeing mixed reviews (which never help) we went into the occidental punta Cana with an open mind. Everything was great, from the beach, food, drinks, staff and weather! Our room was not a renovated one but it still was great! I mean you never spend anytime in your room to begin with. There are many activities to do for every age which is awesome.

Great Location!!

Not sure what some are looking for but this resort was great for us! Stayed in building 24 which was renovated and perfectly located. Very central, room was beautiful, always cleaned and stocked well. Group grounds were kept clean. Staff was amazing and very friendly. Food was good always a variety to choose from. Never went hungry. Beach was amazing. Had a wonderful, and well rested vacation.

Newly renovated, beautiful resort.

The grounds were well kept and the beach was gorgeous. I loved that it was newly renovated. They had nightly entertainment and a Disco as well. I had a spa treatment which was excellent. In addition to the expansive buffet, they had a range of a la carte restaurants to choose from.

This was a great hotel and the food, room, beach and staff were so good.

the dining room were good, but was not so happy with the Chine's one, to dark in side and the food, so so, went to the main dining room to eat after this meal that night. The rest of the dining rooms and food were very good, and I loved the beach dining room a lot.
