Great Resort

The hotel itself is in need of cosmetic repair - not a big deal in the big picture - but it is obvious. Our room was very nice. More than acceptable. The toilets in the entire resort have a hard time flushing, but I believe this is a Cuba wide problem. The food, by Cuba standards, was very good - there was always something you could eat. The staff were fabulous - but obviously overworked - there were not enough staff to serve each area. They ran out of beer and wine on the second to last n [... read more]ight we were there.... totally unacceptable for an all-inclusive resort - I have never had that happen in any other resort I have stayed at in the Caribbean or Mexico. Our biggest complaint, and the one that will keep me ( and the other 10 people I met on the week I was there) from returning again is that there is not enough shade provided on the beach in the form of straw umbrellas and/or pillappas. For a resort of that size there should have triple the number (as there were at the 2 resorts on either side of the Melia,) We would go down to the beach at 7:30 a.m. and all the pillappas and umbrellas would be taken already (with towels or personal effects on the chairs). Also, there were not enough chairs on the beach. If you didn't go down really early in the morning, you would not even get a chair, never mind the option of shade.

Ok resort

We we fortunate enough to stay in a bungalow which was nice but my sister,her husband and two young kids we on a second floor we asked to see if they could be moved beside us, which was an upgrade they said they were over booked, so we said fine there were two rooms to the left of us that NO ONE was in all week! We knew because there was a joining door that was left open and we could walk in all week. Cons :The rooms in the buildings never really had hot water ,the staff didn't seem to care about the do not disturb sign as they woke up my sisters kids a couple times while napping by knocking on the door for water. Water was like gold there you could only have one bottle at a time even if you asked for one more bottle it was a no. Beer you could never get extra, 1 was all you would get. The food in the buffet was not great and one had 1 day of an added option. (To be expected in a buffet) but the ala carts were good but they only let you book two nights out the 7 nights. So you are in the buffet ALOT. Pros :the pool and beach were nice but you are fighting for chairs. We watched at least three fights over chairs. The pool for kids was great! Was just never cleaned. The beach if you walked over to the left was gorgeous! You just needed to walk a minute over if that. Most of the staff were nice and the entertainment for kids was great and they were probably the only ones that didn't expect tip.the resort is small but nice everything was close to walk to. Overall it was ok, to be honest none of us would go back, just based on the overall experience.

Beautiful Resort!

People were very friendly at this resort, especially the staff. People seemed to go out of their way to accommodate us. The resort was the perfect size for us. There were three couples and we were always able to easily locate each other. An amazingly beautiful beach and pool. There was always something to do and simply relaxing by the pool was satisfying as well. I also noticed how clean the resort and grounds were. Our beds always felt fresh and there was never a shortage of anything. I heard rumor about a bug being seen in the resort lobby and it was like they sent the swat team in, there were loads of workers and people around. So reassuring that the resort wants the best quality for their customers. I would love to go back and take my family.

Great Resort.

clean well kept grounds but the resort could use a view updates to its exterior. Food was amazing (much better then expected) No long waits for for food or drink, however the resort seems to cater to a much older crowd. More lively activities and night life could make the resort more attractive to a crowd under 50. Close to the nicest beach I've ever seen though! Also needed to change rooms the first night due to a musty smell but was taken care of by three the next afternoon.

Great beach, tired resort

The rooms are in need of renovation, more than just a coat of paint. We were able to change rooms as our first room smelled of mould, and had a broken TV, headboard, coffee pot, and a dirty, smelly toilet. The second room was a bungalow and was quite pleasant and clean. The pool area was very crowded and we never got a lounge chair around it. People would get up very early and save their chairs. The drinks and wine were watered down. The people who worked there were happy and attentive. The evening shows were well done. The beach was one of the most beautiful we had ever seen.

Great resort!

great resort with fantastic staff. The resort is a bit older but who cares, you're on vacation. Stayed in the Elegence club room which gave us a few extra perks. There is no free wifi. Will def go back!

Not bad, not amazing at

My boyfriend and I went for a 7 day trip to this hotel. We upgraded to the elegance club which I think the only differences is the towels for poolside. Our room was good, although we over heard many other people being very disappointed. Our maid Lilly was amazing! Lots of clean towels everyday and drinks in fridge. Air conditioning in room was working well! The service was very disappointing and we aren't unreasonable people. There we other disappointments but I'm not one to complain. If you are there for swimming, beach and relaxation then this hotel will be great!

Great Hotel

Good rooms and service very clean hotel food and beach are great! Will return and recommend to friends. Excursions and transportation are available for day trips scooters were not available at this hotel.We have been to Cuba on 8 vacations this one is best for service and food and drinks.

Great place to relax

this resort has a great selection of food at the buffet,changed everyday . the al acartes are fine but nothing special .the pool is fantastic and cleaned every other day . animation staff work very hard and get you involved. bars are good some nice top shelf booze included. beach is white and soft sand and the sea is awesome to swim in . don't be afraid to try this place out at least once.

Our Place in the Sun

We have been at this resort numerous times and can foresee many more visits. It is an older resort, showing signs of wear and tear, but they are working on the extensive renovations. The staff are wonderful and very friendly. The beach is huge and very clean, with lots of room. Snorkeling right off the shore is a huge bonus for us. The food was very good.The nightly entertainment was also very good.

Melia Cayo Guillermo Cuba

Hi Jenn, We want to thank you for your help booking our trip but we did have some feedback that I think is important for you to know. When we got to the hotel went we're given the key to our room when we got to our room the bathroom wasn't cleaned and had no towels. We called the front desk so they asked us to come back down so they can change our room. We got to the new room and it was clean and had towels but all the towels were stained. We unpacked our bags and proceeded to take a shower be [... read more]fore bed, there was no hot water in our room. So I called the front desk to let them know, this call happened at 11:30 pm they said the were sending some up immediately. By 12:15 no one showed up so we called again, they again proceeded to say that someone is coming up to fix it. By 1 am no one showed up so we went to bed at 1:30 am we got a knock on the door. It was the repair man. He turned on the water and let it run for 10 min before he proceeded to tell us that we don't have hot water... the next morning we went to the customer service counter very upset. They told us they would send someone again to fix the hot water but by lunch the water was still not fixed. This went on all day, we waisted our first day on vacations dealing with this problem because no one seemed to be able to help us until we asked to speak with a manager. They then changed our room for the third time. We finally had hot water after loosing a day dealing with this problem. After a few days went by we finally got over this situation and we tried to enjoy the rest of our vacation. The beach was beautiful but the lining of the pool was lifting all over the pool so it was very uncomfortable to walk on it. The people were very nice but the start to our vacation really ruined our experience.

Fantastic vacation

The hotel has a lot of great things going for it: wonderful staff, lovely grounds, good food, a gorgeous beach and that turquoise ocean... Yes, it's an older property and in need of a lot of fixes and painting. Our room was clean and nicely cared for during our stay. The bathroom was desperately in need of an overhaul - it was very dark, the toilet ran continuously and the sink plug wouldn't stay up so we had to remove it all together. The food was generally good - anything made-to-order was the best, and there were lots of options. Drinks were good too, except the wine. What really made our vacation were the people. We became friends with the animation staff and some of the servers and bartenders - they're all wonderful people and really made the vacation a great one. If you're not an overly picky person, and if you view the room as just a place to sleep and store your things as we do, you'll like this place. Take the time to talk to and get to know the staff as those friendships will be what you take with you when you leave.

Best dock!

if you are a seafood lover the food at this resort will impress you. Very fresh and tons of variety. There is a dock which is to die for. Mature resort which we enjoyed. Beach was wonderful, overall great.

My 2nd time and I would go back again!

This resort is an older resort. The buildings and rooms are getting a little tired. If you are a person that doesn't like a crack in a tile or a shower head that is working like it was new.... then this isn't the resort for you. I will say that.... This resort offers... a buffet that is really good... yep great food in Cuba! The rooms are very clean. The resort is clean.. older but very clean. The beds are comfortable... yep comfy beds in Cuba is a score also. The pillows on the beds are a [... read more] little flat... but after a day at their amazing beach ... who cares... the beach in this resort is one of the nicest beaches in Cuba, In my opinion. Yes there is some seaweed that washes up over the night. But they do have a tractor and they do bring it out every morning to clean it up. The staff on the resort always have a smile and so friendly. They make you feel very comfortable. If you do have a problem they will look after it asap... now don't forget.... we are on Cuba time.. but it will get fixed. One thing you should know if you are planning on booking at this resort, It is a smaller resort. Right now there is a big section that is closed for renovations. So if you are wanting a resort that will keep you entertained all week. This isn't the resort for you. If you are looking for a resort that you can sit back and relax .. this is a good one. During the day they do have stuff going on around the pool. They do have a nightly show, and a disco but there isn't many people at it.

Great Beach

I recently stayed at the Melia Jardines del Rey in Cayo Coco where the weather was great with lots of sun, and consistent warm temperatures. This is a large hotel so many things are a bit of a distance away but if you don't mind walking its ok. The Cuban staff seemed overworked but as usual very friendly and eager to please. I did find that although the hotel is new, it seems at least the rooms are a bit tired. Safe was not working in the room as well the shower only put out very hot water. Dini [... read more]ng was very crowded as expected with over 2000 people at the resort. Also each day there were odors coming from there septic system. On a positive note, I have not seen a beach like this before where the water was so clear and the sand so white and you could walk for long distances. If you are looking for something quiet this is probably not the place to go.

Incredible resort

My family and I had a blast going on vacation there! The food was delicious and the staff were very kind and friendly. The best part was the beach. Our rooms were very well taken care of. I would really recommend this resort for a good family vacation!

Amazing resort!

Our experience at this resort was amazing! It really is a Great family resort! It's Very clean and well taken care of! The food was delicious! The Staff very nice and friendly! I would really go back with my family, and I recommend it to anyone who is considering going on vacation in that part of the country.

Excellent Vacation with an Unfortunate End

The resort is smaller than others I have been to in Cuba but that just made it more quaint. The rooms were clean, the staff are all awesome for the most part, the facilities well maintained and the food was very good. I had an accident an hour before the bus came to take us to the airport. The luggage room had a large drop as you walk in with no warning signs. The sun at the end of the day made the glass doors have a glare on them so hard to see. I went to step into the room and dropped a [... read more]nd rolled my ankle. It immediately started to swell and within minutes I could not walk on it. I went to the front desk to report the incident and they sent me to customer service who did not speak English and were of no help. 4 days later I am still limping, swollen and bruised with an x-ray that shows bone flakes. It will be 6 weeks until it is hopefully healed. Airport staff were excellent and had a wheelchair for me upon my arrival and assisted me to the plane when time to board. I bumped into Jorge the Transat rep at the airport among the chaos of check in. I let him know and it seemed an inconvenience to him but he said he would write a report. I'm not sure who I should follow up with on this, but I would like to see them put a warning sign on the door and possibly add another step in so it doesn't happen to anyone else.

Rustic Retreat in Cuba

The staff of this resort were simply incredible; very friendly and anxious to solve any problem. The infrastructure itself however, was in sore need of refurbishment, painting and repair. The room was clean and everything worked. I did not like the insecticide fumigation performed most mornings at 6 am. and occasionally during dinner hour. It would have been nice to receive prior notification as I can understand the need for the fumigation. I also found there were limited things to do and som [... read more]e of the "extra" tours not available. All in all, a reasonable vacation in the sunbelt if your expectations are not set too high.

Another amzing vacation with travel friends and Melia Cayo Guillermo Friends.

The Melia Cayo Guillermo never disappoints, I feel relaxed and at home before I walk through the front lobby. The new beach is amazing and provides lots of level walking area for beach walkers. The grounds are continually being groomed and well maintained. Our room was kept in tip top shape by Mildrey, and Jesus, Tommy, Yonel, Alfredo, Angelo, Carlo, Maria, Milly, Ilemy, and many other staff made our trip great.
