Great Resort with Great Beach and Great Food

Perfect for sandy cocotree-shaded beach. The Maya Beach location is the closest to the best swimmable part of the beach. The food is very good with great variety ( the buffet has a theme that change every day). The speciality restaurants are very good, advance reservations should be taken care of the day of your arrival. Recommended are the seafood Marenostrum and the seakhouse Santa Fe. All the installations of the 4 hotels within the Bavaro Maya Grand Resort are sharable. Of the 4, the Colonial has the best lobby while the Beach is quieter and closest to the sandy beach.

Amazìng place! Best resort ever!

Hotel meets all my expectations! Very clean and comfy. I would go back again! Pools are spectacular! Beach s superb....and bar everywhere is totally amazing! People that works in the resort are very accomodating and friendly.

Family Vacation With Teens

Our first family vacation in a long time and expectations were high! We booked Run of the House but next time will book specific resort. We didn’t like the unknown factor as we couldn’t find out where we were staying until arriving at Cancun airport and speaking with Air Canada Rep. A family of four including my 18 & 13 year old sons. They kayaked, rented jet s [... read more]kis and we went on ATV/Cenote excursion right on resort which was priced right at $60/person (that was an unexpected find while walking around resort).Highly recommend! Gym was great and we used it most days. No line up for check in but as expected room wasn’t ready until 3pm so we went for lunch at buffet to fill the time. Rooms were only real disappointment. They were very tired especially bathroom. Public washrooms were more appealing by far!! I realize climate is humid but bed was damp and smelly regardless of turning air/fans on. Been to Riviera Maya before and did not experience this. Very hard to sleep and woke with smelly hair and pjs :( Grounds are beautiful, beach is amazing, pool is cold but refreshing! Resort is 1 hour 15 mins from airport which we were aware of and resigned to just enjoying scenery. Enjoyed convenience and location of lobby bar at Tropical (close to our rooms). Able to have early am coffee/cappuccino before buffet opened and pre dinner drink while waiting for others to dress for dinner. Coffee is amazing BTW! Buffet was good for breakfast but redundant for lunch/dinner. We went to 3 different ones to try and mix it up a little. A la carte restaurants: México Lindo our fav!! La Trattoria italian amazing HUGE portions!! Tokyo Japan fun experience, meal was ‘fine’. Santa Fe steak house least favourite but ‘fine’. Staff/servers were very friendly and helpful for the most part. Some grumpy bartenders at beach bar, and front desk. Overall great vacation and would return to Barcelo Maya again, for sure.

AWESOME

Picture this: A family of 5 leaving a small town to a totally different country called Mexico. They were shocked and astonished by what they saw. And that, ladies and gentlemen, was my family. First of all, I'll start off with the food. I honestly thought the food was completely amazing. Especially the pancakes, because I got 2 of them every morning. The tables were nicely set up, and once you sit down, you can straight away order drinks. For our lunch we always went to the snack bars, by th [... read more]e pool. My daughter, Tristyn, would always have the frozen yogurt for dessert at lunch and dinner. There were always donuts for my son. And my other daughter loved the tea there. Finally at dinner, we would usually go to the Tropical or Colonial, and the food is UNDESCRIBABLE. The whole family loved all the food there, and especially the fruit and white chocolate. There were many drinks for my kids, and a lot for me too. Our hotel was, once again, amazing! We had a premium room, but a regular room still probably would have been amazing. I loved late night Jacuzzi's, and my kids had fun in it before dinner. The bathrooms were great too, but the door to the toilet wouldn't completely close. There was a little safe where we stored important stuff, and the beds were good, but they weren't very comfy. Our view was amazing, especially for sunrise or sunset pictures. Next is the pool and beach. The beach has the most amazing water ever! It's so clear!! My son and daughter loved snorkeling in the ocean by the palace. They got to see different types of fish, and lots of SEATURTLES! They were quite cute, I gotta say. My other daughter sat on the nice and warm sand and listened to her music or read a book. But she did love the pool, and swam in the pool a lot. The pool had different activities for my oldest daughter, while my son and daughter and their dad swam in the pool. My daughter had a friend, so it would actually usually just be my son and their dad. I would lay on one of the chairs and tan. Parties would be at the jaguar. But the jaguar is for 18 years and up. For the kids in the day, kids club is a good place to send them if their under the age of 8. At night, the shows are ok there, but the Micheal Jackson show was our favourite. But after that, its a very quiet environment. Aside from the show and the jaguar, its like an empty island. Which, is very good for sleep, so you can wake up and enjoy the next day. Service was great, but I love Cuban people. Everyone was nice and polite towards us when we went to get drinks or food. House keeping was good too, and she kept our hotel clean. Overall, this was amazing and I highly recommend this resort!!!!!!!!! P.S: I recommend buying the Tropical or Colonial sections

Great Resort

Our fourth time to the Barcelo Maya and we have really enjoyed every stay there. The beach, pools, grounds and resort are all beautiful and very well maintained. The resort is huge with lots of amenities, so we typically don't leave the resort and still find plenty to do. We were in Tropical and had friends staying in Caribe we visited daily and according to my step counter I averaged more than 16 kms of walking per day...that is how big the resort is. Our last two days there, the resort was  [... read more]completely full for a concert on the beach and we still found chairs by the pool and the beach with no issues. But the resort was very obviously more crowded and the food choice and quality seemed to go down a bit at the snack places on the beach. Our meat choices went from steak, chicken fish and burgers --- to burgers only? Our only complaint would be how loud the hallways near the rooms are. Due to design and the fact it's all hard materials (tiles and concrete) it sounds like any noise or talking in the hallway are coming from right beside your bed, though I think that is normal for all resorts in the south. Bring ear plugs and know you'll likely only sleep from midnight till about 7am with a couple of wake ups thrown in. We will definitely go back again as the resort is very well run and maintained.

Beautiful Family Resort

The Resort is very well kept up, the staff are always smiling, always cleaning. The grounds are excellent. It is an excellent resort for young and old. There are lots of things for children of all ages to do.

Amazing resort

Great hospitality with good services, amazing food with the diversity in restaurant types, interesting kid’s drop off program with both indoor and outdoor area facilities but not a luxury room which free internet access was not available. Interesting shopping mall and bowling center with the perfect photo shoot service located in the hotel.

Amazing Resort

This resort had everything you would want. Beautiful long white sand beaches. Lots of chairs on the beach and around the pools. Great variety of food and plenty of it. Resort kept very clean, we where very please with the services.

Amazing resort.

This is our 2nd time at the resort for our wedding anniversary and we must say we had no issues. We always stay 10 days. The room, food, staff and grounds were all great. Considering all the weather out there; we actually had it pretty good. Sure some rain but that is normal and no damage at the resort. Awesome resort

Best I ever visited. Outstanding in cleanliness, accommodations, service and food. Had a wonderful time enjoying crystal clear water in presteen pools, great beach and scrumptious meals. Had the best beef tenderloin at the Santa Fe restaurant. Highly recommended.

Great resorte

I like the hotel and facility. All dining was great. Being close to mall is advantage. Beach was nice and clean with white sand. Bar was good snd make whatever you want. Love the breakfast varaity of food. People were freindly too.

Worst Service Ever

We have traveled all over the Caribbean over the last 10 years. Unfortunately our experience at Barcelo Maya has been very disappointing. Hotel staff is very unpleasant and extremely unhelpful across the board starting from check-in desk to restaurants and bars. Both of our kids got sick with some kind of stomach bug. Wifi was limited to a certain location at a specific time of day. The water park is an extra cost (which explains why it is deserted). There were sharp objects in the pool and we w [... read more]itnessed two separate incidents of guests getting hurt. There is little shade at the beach and little shelter from the rain at the pools. There was an obvious offensive smell in the Caribe area of the resort for most of the week that we were there. Will never go back.

Very nice resort

The resort was beautiful, beach and ocean wonderful, Japanese restaurant was the best......breakfasts were wonderful, every thing at the buffet was very good, Drinks were good, the weather was great what more could you ask for,,,,We loved it but do refer a smaller resort as in walking around from areas, but had a great time at the wedding it was a wonderful set up on the beach and beautifully decorated room for the wedding, food was great,,,over all would highly recommend it...Karen Brisbois

Beautiful, Huge Resort

This resort is beautifully landscaped and located on the best beach in the Mayan Riviera. You will never be bored at this resort and you will always find comfort whether sitting by the pool or on the beach. There are plenty of activities and entertainment throughout the day and night. Furthermore, the food is great at the buffets with enough variety. The a la cart restaurants are definitely worth booking especially the Japanese and Steakhouse. Gorgeous location! Don't arrive on a Saturday afternoon though...

Everything was spot on except the reception desk, food, drinks were great... service and staff were friendly except for the reception desk... We flew in on a Saturday evening and reception only had two people working then, never seen such Kaos in my life! They were very unfriendly and not professional at all. When we left the next Saturday at noon, there were bus loads of people arriving I would say over 200 inline and they must of had over a two hour wait to check in on a Saturday hot afterno [... read more]on, no air conditioning in the lobby! We were able to check out, but that took 45 minutes. People were yelling at the 4 receptionists, everyone was just miserable! Beyond that, Barceló is a great place to stay for the $$.

Stunning Resort

This Resort is absolutely amazing! It is beautiful, the beach is fantastic, the pools are massive and amazing! So much for kids to do. The entire Barcelo Maya Grand is spotless, they have thought of everything! The food is fabulous! There is so much to chose from, they have the most amazing desserts! We can't wait to return! Even the rooms are nice, even though we did not have a newly renovated room, the rooms were still fresh and clean. I can't say enough good things about this place, it never  [... read more]feels crowed, plenty of beach/pool loungers, ample seating at buffets and restaurants, you have to be a stuck up snob not to have liked this place! I consider myself and my husband to be very picky people, and we were so impressed! Mexican restaurant and Japanese our favourite a la carter, but they were all very good!

Great resort

The hotel was spotless. The grounds were very well kept. Staff was very polite. The only negative thing that I would say it that the check-in process was not good. After a long day of travelling, we arrived to a line up to check in and it took over an hour to get through the line. In addition, our room was still not ready and it was after 3pm.

Disabled Friendly Resort

Wide covered walkways connect buildings, shopping, entertainment so you are sheltered from the hot sun or rain. Concrete pathways give easy access to the beach and all resort areas. Elevators are available in each building so guests can request any of the three floors. Buses with ramps can take you to major locations throughout the resort.

Barcelo beach resort

The rooms were a outdated for a 5* resort, my wi-fi that I paid to have was not working and wouldn't let me on. The front desk tried to tell us their was more than one device using it, that's why and would not do anything about it. I know their wasn't more than one, cause my husband also paid for his wi-fi and his worked. I didn't' find a lot of staff friendly, it's like they have to be there, but don't want to be. Just overall bad experience with staying at a Barcelo.
