Sol Cayo Coco - Loved it again!

We stayed at this hotel for the second time from April 10-24 and we loved it even more ! It is a perfect size (270+ rooms), not crowded but enough facilities. The hotel beach is fabulous with a nice breeze to make the heat bearable and long enough for a 1 hour walk to the end and back. There is another public beach with a hotel bar and beds just around the "rock" which is protected from the wind with very shallow water. We ate most lunches at the beachfront restaurant (which becomes a la carte i [... read more]n the evening) - our favourite spot. The buffet is good, plenty of choice of fish & meat cooked to order with a nice salad bar and other food (hot & cold). People complain about it being the same every day but when you can choose from up to 6 different fish and chicken/pork/beef plus other entrees what's the problem? Rooms are ok - a bit dated in spots (closet door tough to slide) but if you don't like yours let them know and you'll be moved. Always perfectly clean, comfortable and lots of hot water. The staff are wonderful. You will never see a harder or faster working bartender than Orlando at the pool bar, even when it is 35c! They are very friendly and appreciate it when you talk to them about their work, life and terrible pay - $20 per month! (that's why tips are greatly appreciated but not looked for). There is the odd sourpuss but not as many as we find at home! The evening shows are very good for such a small hotel - the dancers are excellent. None of the half hour prize awards for the daily pool events we've endured at other resorts - when "its Showtime" it really is showtime. The "Moron Plus" 55 CUC trip is well worth it - visit the town, a couple of bars for entertainment then a fabulous speedboat trip on a lagoon and through the mangroves followed by lunch. This might be classed as a 3.5 star but it is because it only has 2 a la carte restaurants and no swim-up bar. Otherwise it is a great hotel which we can't wait to visit again.!

Great family resort -awesome staff

We travelled with our two children (4 and 2yrs old) and their Grandparents. We all enjoyed our stay at Sol Cayo Coco. The hotel was very clean. The staff was great! We had a few hiccups but staff was very helpful. The beaches are awesome! All in all, it was a good vacation and great value.

What a gem - would return!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Sol in March 2015 and it was fabulous! It was my first time in Cuba and I had heard horror stories about the food but it was great at this resort. It was my boyfriend's third time and he was more than impressed with the food. The staff was incredibly accommodating, friendly, and hardworking. Very nice facilities that were well kept, however the rooms could have used updating. That being said the rooms were very clean, they were just a bit outdated. The ocean view was well worth the extra money because WOW what a view. We had an incredible time here and would definitely return.

Liked it a lot and will return next year

Grounds were beautiful and room and hotel were very clean and well kept. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Staff at the front desk were not as friendly or helpful. We purchased the Premium package and were very disappointed that we paid the extra money but did not receive all the perks we should have. When we return, we will just book an ordinary room.

Relaxing vacation

Beautiful resort with very friendly staff. Very clean rooms and grounds. Bed mattresses could be a little more comfortable, but this is Cuba and was expected. Lots of food choices at the buffet, you will not be bored. A la carte restaurants were amazing. Make sure you try them. Fantastic location with two beach areas. One more calm with a longer walk to deep water the other more wavy and with a short deep entrance.

Great value!

This hotel has two amazing beaches and very friendly staff and guests. It's not overly huge and super busy so its relaxing. The rooms are clean and OK - I'd give them 3 stars (not 4). The food is varied and OK but lacks variety and quality. This is an issue everywhere in Cuba. I would recommend this resort for those who have a limited budget and want good value for their dollar. It's a solid 3 star vacation and your kids will love it.

Good value for the money

This is a solid three-star establishment with pretty decent food (lots of fresh stuff that you can get made to order) and a nice atmosphere overall. The rooms are clean and the beds are fine. Water pressure is pretty weak and some items don't work (like the TV in our room, for example). Towels can be a bit shabby at times. Friendly resort

Fantastic beach setting and very friendly service. The staff is great at this resort and really going the xtra mile to make it an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately the food needs some improvement and the resort needs a renovation.

Average Cuba resort

We've been to Cuba over 15 times and know what to expect. The beach is beautiful, the rooms are very clean. It's a nice mature resort with lots of shade for those who can't take the sun. The only disappointment was running out of food in the buffet all week. Otherwise good value for the money paid. Staff are wonderful and we will keep going back to Cuba because of that.

Sol Cayo Coco - Great staff

The grounds are lovely and the beach is amazing. If this place was updated it would be a jewel. The rooms are clean but the furniture is shabby (not chic), the beds are hard (my husband has a nice mark on his backside from the springs). The rooms are clean, bright and spacious however the curtain was covered with mildew. There is a safe which costs 2 pesos per day extra, no coffee maker or clock. Two bath towels and one hand towel only. The water pressure was not great. Plenty of storage space.  [... read more]The mini fridge has one bottle of water only, there were two days when we didn't get any water. When we were there, there was no problem getting loungers on the beach or by the pool but maybe that was because the weather was cool and windy all week. There was always pool towels available. The buffet was the same everyday but had something for everyone. There was a grilling station for fish, beef, chicken and pork (same tongs for all the meat). Pasta station, desert, fruit, salad and soup everyday. Breakfast had an omlette station, smoothie station and the servers were great. The bartenders and animation staff were all awesome, friendly and helpful.

Awesome Resort

Very Clean and the Friendliest Place. The staff were the best we have seen. So enjoyable. Many new friends were made! Thankyou! The pool staff and restaurant staff could not have been better. We would Love to come back to this very same resort!

Great resort overall, food could be updated

The rooms were clean and the water was hot. The beaches (both of them) were beautiful and well maintained, there was plenty of room for everyone. The food at the buffet was lacking, the stations were great but the line ups were long.

Great Winter getaway at a very reasonable cost...

We enjoyed our first visit to the Sol Cayo Coco, January 9-16 and would definately return. It's a nice, well kept older small resort, clean, close to the airport, good layout, easy to get around, great people, good beaches, good food, variety and quality. We had a very nice room on the second floor overlooking the mini putt yard. Grounds are well kept, the pool is nice and well divided for children, activities and lounging. Paradise!

Stayed at the Sol Cayo Coco from Dec 30-Jan 6 2015 and it was lovely. Smaller resort with a whole lot of love. The staff go out of their way to ensure you have a wonderful vacation and made our visit much more pleasant. The resort and rooms are alittle dated but they are kept clean and the grounds are impecable. We enjoyed the beach that was on the opposite side of the resort accessed by a bridge near the lower pool we spent many days there lounging in the sun and when the tide is out this turns [... read more] into shallow pools you can pull your sunloungers in. A tip for visitors walk down this beach pass the Iberostar resort to find a lobster/shrimp shack its 12cuc for lunch and 1cuc for a Cristol beer make sure to go to the bathroom as their facilities are not modern but worth the walk and the view is stunning. Would go back in a heart beat!

Great small resort

Great small resort!! Rooms are in need of updating but very clean. The staff at this resort are amazing. They took very good care of us. The best part of this resort is the beach and there are actually 2 beaches. Would definitely go back!!!

LOVED IT

Had a fantastic time at Sol Cayo coco rooms were a bit dated but CLEAN air worked fine and hot water always, beautiful view over the mini golf of the Ocean. Resort is smaller than most in the past but so easy to get around you are near everything, the staff makes this resort you are all amazing!!! The only complaint... I found the food not hot enough only luke warm at best but always found something to eat. Overall good value for the Canadian dollar would return in a heart beat.

Great Beach!

Friendly atmosphere and staff. Rooms were OK but the food left to be desired. That is the only thing that would stop me from going back another time. I did like that it was a resort on the smaller side.

Peaceful Retreat

The resort is older and couldn't be called "flashy" but was a more intimate, friendly retreat. The beaches were well kept and the water was pristine. Staff are amazing very friendly and always smiling and eager to please. The grounds are immaculate, the rooms very clean and comfortable. The atmosphere was very relaxing, while offering many activities if you wish to be active. Can't wait to return!!
