Not ready yet after hurricane

Overall the stay was ok however I do not believe that this resort is quite ready to open after the hurricane. There is a lack of public washrooms, the beach washrooms are not operational at all, and there are no washrooms available at the the pool at all. The only public washrooms were outside of the buffet, or in the lobby bar but they were only 1/2 operational as stalls were close and daily and there was a foul smell coming from all of them. They did have 3 fresh cooking stations open at each sitting breakfast had 2 egg / omelet and 1 French toast / pancake station and they did have bacon every morning Lunch and supper had -1 meat station (pork chops, chicken, steak and liver) The chicken and pork were very good -1 fish station with 5 varieties daily 1- pasta station And the also had a pizza station most lunches and suppers The rooms were older but they were ok for Cuba. They had a tv with about 6 English channels including stars, and Disney for kids. They had double pillows and extra blankets already in the room where it normally takes a few days to get these. The downside was there was some plumbing problems on a couple days with backup. The staff were excellent in all areas including customer service, reception,the bars and restaurants. The pools were all open and in good running condition however there were no lifeguards at the pool or beach My suggestion is if you want to stay here is wait till next year. They are working daily in the resort but it’s still not ready As far as Cayo Coco goes the island was hit hard by the hurricane, there are many resorts that are not in operation and there appears to be no effort to fix them. Also the weather was bad for 3 days while we were there and the town was about $100 to go to and an hour each way so not much to do when it’s cliydt and rainy

food awful. went to a la carte had to leave food was that bad and went to buffet down stairs where we meet people who did the seem thing. we went back again for the italian night which resulted in same thing food was awful had to down stairs to the buffet again...the food in the buffet was fair but the same thing basically every night.. had to change rooms there was a smell beach was dirty

Great place to be at!

I have travelled everywhere and finally settled to Tryp Cayo Coco many years ago. Now a repeat customer, going twice a year, I can say that this is the best Cuban resort of the Island (in my opinion). Staff is like family, beach is gorgeous and food never disappoints. I was there this December, of course they are still working hard to rebuild from the hurricane damages but they are progressing well. The place is not yet fully functional but it will be very nice when finished with a more modern f [... read more]lare. Been there many times. Love the hotel and the family feeling they share. Miss them Irma didn't play nice with Cayo Coco at all. Maybe one day I'll go back to what feels like home. Robyn Murray will be watching for me

Not horrible but not the best

The atmosphere was great, the people were nice and I guess depending on the time you go will depend on what other age groups will be there. It was party central first week of May and then turned into an older crowed by may 10th. Quality of the resort compared to the last 2 resorts I went too was a 6/10 if that... the toilet in our room rarely ever flushed even though we asked for it to be fixed twice, the buffet hours don't make sense and some night it's not even open. The grill is only open f [... read more]or 3 hours at lunch and it was the best place for food so that was unfortunate. The 24 hour bar and grill is actually a 12 hour bar because it is only open after dusk. If I wasn't there with the intentions to drunk and party I would be very upset with the quality of the rooms and food. And not that it's the resorts fault but the mosquitos were so bad we came back with welts.

Amazing

Trip was April 28 - may 5 and was crowded full of people in their 20s. Solid party resort if you go at end of university/college season. Food was great. Resort was exceptional. Room was exceptional. Staff were exceptional. Swamp by the 24hr bar smells shitty they should just clear the swamp tbh. Aside from that amazing. 4.7/5

Tryp Cayo Coco is a wonderful family and friendly resort the people on the resort make this hotel a home away from home .

Tryp is a resort we go back to often because the resort is full of charm and beauty the staff at this hotel make you feel that you are in there own homes .The beach is so beautiful you can walk and enjoy the warm sand on your feet . Tryep Cayco Coco

It is an older resort. Rooms very dated and beds very bad. The pools are good, grounds not too bad. The alcarts resturants are very good. The buffet is good many options with grilling options. Service is excellent. The beach is one of the finest which helps even out the resorts age. We are not drinkers but people looked pleased with the bars. Great resort !!

Everyone was so friendly and kind. Rooms felt a bit dirty but the maid came everyday and cleaned everything. Great entertainment at night. They did pool and beach games. The beach was unreal. White sand blue water. Everything was easy to navigate going off the resort everyone was very helpful.

Home away from home

I love Cuba. I love the country and I especially love the people. Tryp Cayo Coco was a truly great experience. Even though I came down with pneumonia on my first day there I can't say enough good things about the resort. The medical care was excellent. The resort was great and the staff were awesome. Clean and well taken care of. Updates are in the works. Food was good and plentiful. I recommend the lobster when in season. I will definitely visit this resort again and again.

Friendly Staff

Run down and aging but clean. We upgraded to a suite, ocean view room. The view made up for any discomforts. (hot water took 20min to funnel thru the pipes; one afternoon there was absolutely no hot water for the shower). The food has improved, more tasty, improved spicing, daily fresh fish was delicious.

Fantastic Time!!!!

We went to Tryp end of March for 10 days as a returning guest from last March. We were upgraded to ocean front room at no extra charge...amazing view. We enjoyed everthing about our experience, staff was so nice, food was good, beach was absolutely amazing....will be returning next year.

GO ELSEWHERE !!!!!

Very disappointed in this resort.We waited in the lobby for 2 hours to get our room,the girls at check-in were not the friendliest. When we got our room , it was on the ground floor ,near the quiet pool.Soon as we opened the door the smell of mold was brutal,the furniture was so old and dated it should be in the garbage.I know this is Cuba,however when your paying hard earned money to go on a vacation , I just wanted it to be at least presentable. Buffet food is never hot,however in saying tha [... read more]t ,there was lots of choices.But they leave the doors to the buffet open and flies were all over the food.Lots of cats roaming around sitting on the chairs in the buffet area as well. If it weren't for the pool being outside of our room,I think I would have went elsewhere.. I was at another resort in Cuba in Jan,wish I would have went back there.(Pestana).

Upgrade to Melia Jardines del Rey oh yay

We got out of the airport and were emmidiately told we had been upgraded to the Melia Jardines del Rey. Great start to a trip. The Tryp cayo coco would have been just fine since we took a day trip to see it. Will always use trip central to book my vacations. Ola

Wish I would of listened to the Reviews

To start: we requested ground floor room, we were on the second floor. We entered our room to a strong odor of sewage....strong enough to make us gag. When we went to turn on the light, sparks came from behind the wall bracket. Seeing it was 10:30 pm and we were extremely tired from travelling, we closed the bathroom door and pulled the plug from the wall swearing to deal with this in the morning with management and the air Transat rep. The next morning we spoke to the rep and we were moved t [... read more]o another room, which was not ready until 4:30 pm. A full day to find another room. We proceeded to explore the resort, only to find several stagnet ponds, with green water and a foul smell coming from them, again the smell of sewage. I understand the hotel is one of the originals, and they are starting to fix the rooms, but this was ridiculous. The rooms were old, the accessories were all labeled with names of other hotels, who had given them away because that hotel was updating their rooms. Walls needed paint, bathroom had no safety strips on floor of tub, shower head was connected by a rubber hose. Entire resort in dire need of good plumbing, feces floating in toilets, in the public used toilets and the individual rooms. Meals: breakfast was good, but no fresh juice ( tang for orange juice), Dinner was fair, need better selection and better choices for salads and dressings. Only serve coffee in the morning, NO coffee with lunch or Dinner??????. Specialty restaurants were exceptional. Drinks were poor, other than at the Italian restaurant, he had a blender to make a proper Pina Colada or any of the slushy type drinks, the other bars did not have the proper equipment to crush ice, Main bar in the lobby very slow, spend more time making expresso coffee then drinks...can wait up to 20 minutes. Better arrangements need to be made for quests who don't fly out until late at night, either change flight times to a more acceptable time, or make arrangements for a later check out. I am very shocked that Air Transat would even consider this hotel for their quests, it is definitely below the standards that we have always relied upon. Hope something is done so other quests aren't as shocked as we were. Bartenders, room maids and servers were fantastic. BEACH was excellent. Pool could use more than one walk in ( Steps) to enter the pool, otherwise we'll kept. Bridges need boards nailed down before someone trips on lose boards or falls through. Curtains need hooks so they are not sagging off the rod. Very disappointed. Air transat, trip central should be ashamed for allowing people to even consider this place. We rely on you to provide us with quality travel and accommodations.

Needs renovations big time

Pool area was good, room was very worn,only had 3 restaurants to eat at as the rest where closed. Paid extra to eat at all and could not. Very upset as was a lose of money for a upgrade that was not provided. Very upset and would not ever go again.

Great resort

Tryp hotel was amazing , beach was great, dining was good, room was great ,the whole resort was very clean and well maintained. The staff were a little slow getting your drinks but all in all we would totally recommend this resort

Amazing Beach!

The grounds are lush and beautiful, the Oriental and International restaurants are excellent, can't comment on the others as we did not go to them, however friends of ours bragged about how good the BBQ restaurant was. The buffet was what you would expect at any Cuban resort, always find something to eat. The drinks are plenty strong enough. Bartenders were all friendly. They were comfortable beds. Water was hot, but sometimes a slow trickle. Time your showers, as most use showers at suppertime. Take fly dope and make sure you use it, take after-bite or polysporin. The night shows were really good. The pool was nice. Overall a very good experience.

Nice R & R Trip to Tryp

Hello everyone you may have seen my review about going to Tryp Cayo Coco. Well we went the week of Feb 15 to Feb 23 upon arriving we had a bottle of Rum for us in the room with a personal welcome letter. We were invited to view future prototype room which they are hoping to get 180 of the 580 rooms done within the next 3 years. It's Cuba and they don't work fast. So something to look forward to. We were also invited to a private lunch and entertainment which was really nice. Met other people who have been there as many times as 26 times. They get a VIP treatment to say the least. So we arrived and of course the people are so friendly and easy going they do love the Canadians as most of this resort has Canadians. We met a couple of super nice people from down east. We have emails to keep in touch. The al a cartes are better than the buffet, when we went to the buffet 7 years ago there was such an abundance of food it was wonderful. This time I found the buffet to be a little more sparse, last time they had turkey, chicken etc. Still lots to choose just short on chicken this time. Beef is not something that Cuba has a lot of and what they do have is usually tuffer than we are use to here. They did have a lot of pork this time which was very good. They did have bacon almost everyday but it is never anywhere near being cooked properly, so we would get that first and take it to the guy doing the eggs and he would out it in the grill and cook it for you. That was great because then it would be nice and hot and cooked properly. I also wish they would just get regular 4 slice toasters as the toaster ovens they have just warm the bread even if you put it on slow and send it through 3 or 4 times. Something they should look into. There breads are amazing, they are really good and don't have a pile of preservatives in it. My husband usually can't eat bread but he can eat there's with no problems. Also butter is more like a lard so if you really like butter try and take the little packets down with you. So book your al a cartes we went to steak house as well as oriental both very good. And loved our waiters/waitress. Always make you feel very welcome. The beach of course is always super. They actually use a tractor every morning to sift the sand and clean it. Ocean is spectacular we swam everyday. Not deep for quite a ways and beautiful sugary sand. Walked to the market that's about a 10 Mjn. walk and totally safe. There are bicycle to use if you like. Cayo coco doesn't have very much traffic so safe out in the main road. We took the bus tour that sunwings rep said was 2 hours well FYI it's 2 hours one way stopping at all resorts on the way there and on the way back. Spent 1 hour at Pilar Beach, which is small but very pretty. So we were gone from 10 am till 330 so way too long when you were told it was only 2 hours. I don't recommend it. Also if you do go on it and are sitting up top watch for branches hitting you and don't stand up at resorts as one man hit his head really hard and was hurt from Resort over hang. We had a Updated room in building 11 which gave us an ocean view which was really nice. I see people complaining about hot water well I actually don't think they have hot hot water it was always Luke warm no matter the time of day. It was ok to shower with. My hair dryer didn't work In the room and I didn't mention it but they had sent someone to fix it and I thought that was great. Our Chambermaid was such a sweet lady we didn't tip her everyday but she still made fancy things for us and some with flowers. Really nice. She always did the floor which is a pet peeve of mine as I hate sand on my feet and then drag it into bed. So she was awesome. Anything I asked for she would have asap soaps water etc. perfect. We will go back to Tryp again down the road as I really do like the resort and people. The entertainment was really good they actually did many of the shows in English which is great because this way you understand. They still need to have the announcer speak English as he says everything in Spanish and we have no clue what he is saying at hundred miles an hour. Lost in translation. Lol The resort is a bit dated and most of the lights worked around the resort just a few were out. The balcony light comes on at night and goes off before daylight. My one concern is the poor cats. I love animals and although they are being feed by many people visiting the resort. I wish they would actually have some cat food for them. Most people didn't mind the cats as they dont jump on tables and are very friendly. They donsleep in the chairs but willmive if you ask them to, my concern if the well being and saftey of the cats. Not all people are nice. I saw one old man who kicked the chair the cat was in for no reason other than to be an ass. They cat got down and moved away from him. I on the other hand wanted to kick his chair and ask him how it felt. But my husband wouldn't let me. Mean people in the world. So I hope all the kitties stay happy and healthy at the resort and I hope visitors continue to feed and share with them, as I did. They are a few that are further away from main are so I tried to feed them as well. One poor orange cat was badly beaten up in the face. Hope he makes a full recovery. He was around building 10 if you see him feed him please. I will go back one day in the near future and will let the managers know when we will be arriving. Enjoy your stay at Tryp and make the best of your vacation time. Remember they are many years behind us.

Updating is coming! Resort is great!

Over all the resort is great. This was our second visit to Tryp Cayo Coco. The people who work there can't do enough for you. The grounds are constantly kept upand there is always someone working on something. They are in the midst of preparing to redo 190 rooms beginning in May. The rooms are tired and need to be upgraded which is great to see them do. There is an issue with mosquitos and a stench around the stale water that runs through the resort is likely the issue.
