Not amazing resort

We were at this resort 2 years ago, and since then they have had a hurricane. There is a lot of mold damage in the rooms. It made some of us sick. It was on the walls, and the curtains, and came out of the AC. The water in the bathroom is a hit or miss if you get water, and if it is hot or cold. 3 days I had no hot water, and 1 day no water in the morning. by late afternoon there was hot water or warm water. The common bathrooms were a problem too. No toilet paper or paper towels. the t [... read more]oilet in building 1 backed up, and there was a lot of water on the floor. It didn’t get cleaned till the next day. On the positive side, there are lots of pools to sit around or swim, There was plenty of choices of food. The staff were nice. The entertainment was good.

Awesome food

I thought the resort had huge potential. Food was great for Cuba. The brach house lacked staffing. Waited for service way too long. My biggest disappointment was the fact that i was in a resort full of french canadians and it really did not allow me to feel comfortable to socialize.

Wanted to leave the day we arrived....

The only thing that was good about this resort is the location since its close to the main street in Varadero. I've travelled quite a bit in Cuba, Dominican, Mexico and I'm not the type to complain but this hotel was BAD. The food was disgusting and everyone on the resort got sick. The beds and pillows are stained with pee and blood. Guests that were leaving were running at their airport shuttle screaming "hell is finally over". Disappointing Resort

12 in the group 2 rooms too moldy for people to stay in Rarely had hot water and one morning no water at all No coffee in the dining room after lunch or dinner Food was ok but often cold Smokers everywhere, lobby often too smokey to sit in Pools were too cold for swimming

Nightmare

I travelled a lot around the world visited many poor countries and Poor accomodations but this place was a nightmare. The reception was rude no smile bad service. Lack of employees everywhere. If you have the chance to get a room on the first floor or second floor it’s not so bad but don’t take a room on the block 4 it’s disgusting . If you want to drink all day and evening and go eat outside the resort it’s maybe a place for you . At least the maids are very nice and clean the room properly. I’ll never never never go back . Definitely not a 3 stars I would say a poor 1 star.

Our Vacation

The staff were great. The food over all distasteful, and the majority of the food was cold. How can you eat cold soupy mashed potatoes? Two nights there was hot roasted ham. "Delicious"! Over all there breads were grand, deserts were delightful, and even had ice cream. Our room was alright, really basic and no frills. The maids did do a decent job cleaning. They scream, yell, swear, spit, do not pick up after them selves. It is a shame to say they were/are Canadians. Such an embarrassment to even be around so most of us would say Manitoba, Wpg., B.C., etc. Ocean grand.

Palma Real Veradero Cuba

The hotel was run down worse over the last year. The food hasn't improved much and almost all the food was cold. I do not think they know how to use the steam table!!! The staff were fantastic. The maids who are to clean the front bathrooms really need to do a better job. Petty dirty. Most of the problem is the patrons are a bunch of dirty filthy pigs. I would just love for our Prime Minister, Justin go there in disguise to see what humiliation they set for Quebec. They are very ignorant to all for Canadians and do not represent there province or set a good example.

Amazing resort !!

This resort was the second one Ive traveled too in cuba . I’d have to say it’s much better then Arenas Blancas . The food as usual in Cuba wasn’t the best but that’s just a cuba thing lol my advice is to bring your own ketchup and maybe other sauces. Then you’ll eat much better . The snack bar has a late breakfast which is nice for the mornings you want to sleep in . The hot dogs taste like home . The pools are clean , the lobby is nice the entertainment was amazing ! I brought my daughter for the first time to Cuba and to be honest it was a perfect resort ! The Safe were amazing I’d defenitly come back !!!

Palma Real January 2018

Over all we had a good experience, just a few bugs . If your coming in early in the morning don’t expect a room before 4pm , Have some drinks or play by the pool , Rooms are not ready till 4 pm , also the west jet bus pick up book disappeared while we there , we asked about our departure bus several times and no one could help or even provide us with a contact number as it was in the book , The rooms where clean and the maid was kind as always , The foods was okay , If you need to eat out ther [... read more]e’s lots entertainment and other food close by , We would go again for price !

Would not recommend at all

Everything from rooms, food, pools, grounds, entertainment, drinks, power source,noise level and so many more issues that I could write a short novel on the reasons not to go to this resort. My husband and I travel a few times a year and have never been so disgusted with this resort and would never recommend it at all. Even talking to other guests at resort they felt the same about it, DO NOT GO and if you do don't expect any 3 stars, you would be very disappointed.

Enticement discount of $450 required

Our January 2018 visit to Cuba illustrates the discount of $450 (Canadian) dollars between 3 and 4 star rated hotels. This amount will vary monthly and seasonally. In Veradero, we stayed at the Palma Real all inclusive, which is across the street from the Starfish resort. To reiterate a truism, price reflects quality, especially when economic demand is large. To entice customers to purchase this resort, Cuban central planning managers have calculated that a discount of $450 per week is required. And there's still plenty of people who regularly come back to this resort to have a grand old time. Most visitors are from eastern Canada and Russia. So why did we choose to subject ourselves to this discount? (Small discomfort, not suffering.) Since we consider ourselves so (sniff!) superior. Well... n.b. the savings amount to $900 for a couple. For this, I can enjoy 9 high quality candlelight dinners at the restaurant of my choice when I get home. We value this location and like to stay near a town where other than beach diversions exist. This hotel is near several exciting night clubs, stores and businesses for variety. You can have an interesting walk around town, nature and amusement parks. You can meet locals in addition to tourists from around the world. There are many transport alternatives: walking, horse carriage rides, three or 4 wheeled taxis, buses, motorcycles. The nearby nightclub "Calle 62" is worth special mention. It's a really fun place with lively live Cuban music with dancers and audience spilling into the street. Whatever your temperament, just go and take a look, hang out for a while. Drinks and BBQ chicken are priced reasonably. Won't cost you a thing except a short walk. Conversely, if you don't mind a more isolated location with 4 or 5 star rated service costing 2-3 times this price, then this is not the hotel of choice for you. An additional aspect to consider is the nature of the clientele here. It is a certain yahoo segment of society less likely to be found at more expensive venues: slovenly, boisterous, tattooed, hard drinking, fun-seeking people, and in this demographic I include both young and old. Speaking for us, we also enjoy meeting and conversing with the international clientele. A pleasant surprise was roving Cuban troubadours singing and playing music at our hotel buffet supper. We took a break between soup and main to dance among tables. Thoughts about weather... Many people talk about it, but few take action. Would you spend extra to purchase fine weather? We fortuitously saved $900 due to bad weather, an unfortunate fallout of the winter storm on the east coast of America in January, only 90 miles from our Island paradise. Another fallout of the bad weather here is the interminable length of this travel review, time permitting. Adios amigos from Cuba.

Party place

This ressort is in the heart of varadero. .is the best place call 62 and havana club and the beattle club juste min by walking. .good food and thé renovated thé room but thé elavator was not working .but everything was Nice.. they have a pool bar. .its my 6 times over and still going...

Really amazing resort

It was very good eventhough i didn't think to get the info of a friend because i got confused by a personal thing. For next time one thing is sure : i will make sure to enjoy this kind of a lovely trip by myself! For sure!

Accepable resort if you have no expectations...

For us it would be quite acceptable were it not for one big , huge nuisance: the "music".... starting at 10:30 p.m. ... bum, bum.... vibrating through the interior , until about 3:30 a.m. ..... plus the same "music" put on in their rooms..... not relaxing. Could not sleep for hours every night because of these vibrations. The second big annoyance is that the beautiful beach is full of garbage! tourists just throw all the ploastic all over.... unbelievable. Outdated resort

Mattresses should be all replaced with new ones, we checked only three rooms. Out of 14 days, we had hot water only 9 days... and actually only warm water. This is a nice resort but it's not maintained properly: I recommend that management provide staff with good cleaning products and spray rooms against bugs as the hotel doesn't have window screens. As far as I'm concerned, food is good for a 3 stars hotel: quite a selection of vegetables, meat, fish and great deserts including the best ice  [... read more]cream. Must see once

Good for the price. Easy access to town. Food good but cold. Building 1 has been renovated. Not enough chairs at the beech. Lobby bar could be cleaner. This was our third visit. They are in the process of changing the elevator in building 4. The Hotel will be under new management Dec 15/2017

Resort has its UP & Downs Its a 3 star resort you get your moneys worth

IVE been to palma real many times let me start by saying the workers on this resort are fantastic people they always treat us very good,from the gardners the bartenders the waitresses in the restaurant right up to the manager of the resort,they have made some changes since my last visit,the lobby bar is no longer 24hrs so you cant get a coffee until 7.00am in the morning so if your a early riser like me its not good,the swim up bar was under renovations the whole time we were there so that pool  [... read more]was closed,lot of construction going on in building one don't know why.The food this time was pretty good.All in all we had a fantisic time as we normally do,there was 11 of us,would we go again of course we would,mostly because of the workers at the resort.For a 3 star resort & the price for a week its pretty good,IF you want high end stuff go somewhere else...................

Not that great!!

The hotel went down hill even from 3mths ago when I was there. The pool with the pool bar was closed for renos which is understandable, but the other pool was so filthy I could feel slim on my feet when they touched the bottom. I get the Cuba resort food as not my first time, and I can find basics and just go eat out sometimes as Im not picky, but this was an all time low of disgusting...bordering dangerous. Basically like slop...everything mixed together with what looked like food from the week [... read more]s before. Very nasty. The bar staff (with the exception of a few) are very rude and like to make you wait even when you are a god tipper, like they are doing you a favour. The WORST was the blonde lady at the beach bar...looked at you like she had a serious problem with you and even said something rude about us to our Cuban friend. Mold in most of the rooms from what the other guests were saying, including mine.

Amazing locationn

The staff were awesome ! The resort was in a perfect location to wonder around and explore. Make sure you get a massage while you are there.. she's awesome ! The food was very repetitive but it is very inexpensive to eat out at restaurants where the foot is great. We had a lobster dinner for my birthday for $15 pesos.. can't go wrong with that ! All in all good resort , staff were great, the only complaint is that I wish I was aware that the main pool was closed for renovations while we w [... read more]ere there.

Very bad

Disgusting hotel , disgusting service , disgusting pool , beach is far , dinning is just garbage , if you do not tip you get no service , there is no kids club as it say on the website . I will not recommemded to any concious people to go to this hotel.
