Beautiful grounds and amazing staff

We've been going to this resort 15+ times and the reason we keep coming back is mostly due to the staff. Exceptional service. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Awesome trip each time!!

Love this resort

I been going there for about 9 years Love the staff , love the tourist at this resort people are just so nice Beach is beautiful , the rooms are ok , you only sleep in there lol. They are doing a lot of renovation which is good I will comeback again

Good resort over all

i have been to this resort many times over the years and still like it a lot despite some interesting and weird shortcomings. keep in mind what you pay for the trip and the wonderful staff and people who serve you day to day. i will come again and its the people and the beaches that keep me coming back over and over again over the 16 plus years.

Fun time

It was large place /rooms were nice very clean/bars were well staffed //front deskwere help full / grounds were being cut if u like a good walk //nice beach areas/food staff a real great job food far

Always had a great time at Club amigo

Not the greatest Resort but the people are amazing always treated good and the price is always right can't wait to return for my 7th time the beach is very big with lots of shade at the beginning which is a bonus for me

Home away from home!

I have been to Club amigo on a few occasions. This trip I decided to go back with friends I made from a previous trip. I always come back because of the beautiful beach and the amazing staff. This trip was extra special because we all wanted to see the finished renovations we heard about since last there. The best was the new 4th floor terrace bar which overlooks the amazing blue ocean and beautiful sunsets. Another great Reno was the work done to the Santa Maria snack bar between the main hotel and the beach. It's absolutely wonderful to see how much work management is putting in to this little gem of a 3 star. They have also designated one lunch per week as a Canadian only lunch. Hearing they may soon offer other lunches for other countries as well. Adding the new changes to the things I already love about Club Amigo will definitely result in me going back for future visits.

cudos to new manager george! he has renovated and improved lobby bar and also the santa maria snack bar! there seems to be much more maintenance work in progress than in previous years. overall a much needed face lift seems to be taking place! rooms e xcellent maid service and all staff very helpful. reception could perhaps be the one area lacking. it would be nice to be greeted with a friendly smile as opposed to a frown.

Some good some terrible

The beach was fantastic. Main pool was closed and half the snack bar pool was closed as well. Main pool reopened the last day there. My room was good. Comfortable enough bed, lots of hot water and AC was great. I know you don't go to Cuba for the food but only had one buffet open and the food there was atrocious. Bacon was raw, ate from buffet twice and within half hour both times had to run to the bathroom. Because the buffet food was so bad snack bar had a huge line up almost all the ti [... read more]me. Ran out of Cola twice and had to pay $1.10CUC for Coca Cola. No bottled water in rooms and had to pay for it. Beach towel exchange would run out of clean towels within minutes every day. Told can't pay for extra time on check out day until that morning and that morning told "not possible" to stay in room because it was all ready booked and he just walked away from me. Very unprofessional. When I told them that was unacceptable staff person was quite rude about it and I informed them that my paperwork says I can and Sunwing rep told me it wouldn't be a problem it got shall we say heated. I informed them that this is their problem and not mine. You don't want to inconvenience the new people coming in but have no problem inconveniencing me and that is unacceptable. I told them I will be staying in the room until 4 o'clock like my paperwork says I can and if they want me to leave they had better send more than one security guard to remove me because I won't leaving easily. They finally gave in, I paid my $20CUC and at 4 o'clock I signed out. Never will I stay at this resort again. I would barely give my experience there 2 stars

Disappointment

Well where do I start? First off my daughter's luggage didn't arrive with us, no clothes or medications! Flight was delayed, got in about 11:45 at night, and they stuck us in a room on the second floor as far away as possible. When booking I told them I couldn't do stairs well, and needed to be close to amenities due to medical issues. They did however change our room the next afternoon, which was better and on ground floor. Still no luggage, spent the day walking beyond my capabilities trying [... read more] to find the pharmacy for my daughter's medications. 3 different staff sent us in wrong directions, in doing so this cripple me up for almost three days! Finally got to the pharmacy which is about a half mile from the main building, to be told they didn't have 35 dollars change for fifty pesos. Went back to main lobby, sunwing rep said the luggage would be there in a 1/2 an hour, so we thought to wait instead of finding change for they pharmacy. But no money exchange at hotel. 2 hrs later still no luggage, told should be soon, finally came at 6:30 pm. Whole day lost! Do next we find out the main swim up pool bar was closed, which I told the trip central person this was first priority, for my daughter had never flown or been to cuba before, and this was a requirement! I would think this information would be known before booking a resort! On top of that a good portion of the resort wasn't open, 8 of the 11 restaurants were closed and no nightly entertainment! Although they had a karioki night and a beach party night, that was it! Even the beach bar was closed except for beach party night. Now for the food! I know not to expect wonderful food in cuba, but...no fruit or vegetables except for canned peas and carrots, no sliced meats, or cheese to be found, not much of anything! 4th day in my daughter now got violently I'll from something, another day lost! For the grounds, they were very unkept 2 1/2 foot long grass, which they did start cutting on our second last day, not all of it was long, most main areas were cut. Some of the buildings and walls ; walkways were crumbling, really tired old lady! Could be beautiful but... The beach was on the other hand was nice, different areas to go to. I do understand there are shortages in cuba right now, and I'm by no means a prude , but... when talking with other people from other resorts, this crisis was not comparable! They were quite pleased! So all in all ,we tried to make the best of it, it was warm and sunny most of the time, which was good! But I would not return nor recommend this resort!

Horrible

This was the worst experience I have had in cuba to date. We were treated like 2nd rate people as the resort was full of Cubans and we did not speak Spanish. The food at this resort was absolutely horrible I don't eat canned anything at home so I would not accept that when I have paid good.money to be fed . The resort was.lovely on the grounds and beach and sunshine were wonderful. No fresh vegetables is unacceptable I have been to cuba before and never have been fed slop for food . Great staff and besch

I have stayed at this resort numerous times. The resort is clean and the staff are good. Some issues recently with being able to get certain items in due to gas shortages. One concern this time was the shortage of bottled water. There is a water filtration system on site, but no bottled water causes issues for those wanting to venture off the resort or go on excursions. Make sure and bring travel mugs or water bottles to fill. Over all a decent place for the money, don’t expect fancy, just a a [... read more]verage hotel with great Sandy beach.

Below expectations

My wife and I have been to Cuba numerous times we have visited Habana, Varadero, Cayo Coco, Cayo Santa Maria, Holguin so it's not our first trip to the rodeo and I'm in the Hospitality Industry for over 35 years and normally don't complain about little things but I will here this is the first place where "ALL INCLUSIVE" is not all inclusive false advertising or buyer beware I was charged $1.00 per bottled water, between my wife and I we drank 2 to 3 bottles per day. $15 pesos here The safe in t [... read more]he room was also not included $2.00 per day $14 pesos there The chairs on the beach $1.00 per chair total $2 pesos Drinks at the beach bar total$4 pesos and this beach is on the resort It felt like every where we turned we were being nickle and dime (GOUGED) The food was very poor always the same items, they would only change the positions on the buffet table not very many options either unless you went to their other restaurants run by another company called "Palmares" where you have to pay for everything but they share the same grounds as the resort really weird but a good strategy on their part they have a captive audience We arrived on a Tuesday by Friday they ran out of money and if we wanted to exchange money we had to go to town and we left on the Tuesday and still had no money At the front desk they weren't very friendly it looked and seemed like we were bothering them when we wanted anything like the phone cards or information on activities By the third day we were ready to transfer to another hotel if it were not for the exceptional service we received from an apprentice waitress at the lobby bar by the name of Tania Lopez she would always greet us with a genuine smile and made us feel special and brought us those special Spanish coffee THANK YOU Tania Will we be back to Cuba ? yes, but not at Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca Sorry

Club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaco

I have stayed at this hotel 5 times in the last three years. While the hotel staff are excellent I have the hotel management very short sited in try charging extra for safe and refrigerator in their top accommodations. I partially understand as the drop in rating has caused a major portion of it European and Canadian clients to be replaced by Cuban locals and a large influx of Russians who are more cost conscious. On my last trip I was upgrade to a fantastic room with a fridge and a compliment [... read more] 10 year old bottle of rum. The next day I was invited for lunch at Bennys an on site restaurant that is you could easily class as four star I was not aware but it was also open for breakfast and lunch on some days. As for the bars the quality of acholic drinks remained the same but there were no shortages like the last two times. I also had supper at benny on night and again the service and food was excellent. On the las night of my stay I was invited to an open air dinner by the beach that was steak or lobster, a great red wine, a flamed desert and champagne. There was a great party a the pirate ship on the beach with entertainment for the young and old and a very wet bar. The food at the main dinning room was adequate but could be upgraded to include more fresh fruit and vegetables. Late arrivals to breakfast found the orange juice all gone but replaced by other types. The travel rate to this hotel is lowest and a small rate increase could assist their ratting in the food area. In all I would say that the hotel was vastly improved since my previous visit and deserves a second look when hunting for a vacation spot. I will go back and hope more people will note that the vast improvement and their service and am sure it will move the satisfaction to a higher star level. Keep up the good work

Nice resort

Nice resort to be with family and friends, beach are amazing, recommend A+ There is nice activities , animation team are nice , best team ever is Ramiro’s As an advice on time of rain they should have more than one activity as a backup

Super resort !

This year I was 3 times at Atlantico and I love it. They do everything to make you feel good. The only problem, anywhere in Cuba, is on weekends when is crowded !🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 I will like to see the others bars around the old Guardalavaca hotel open !

Needs more help

Well, this hotel is still under renovation When we arrived they put us in the Villas but too far so we ask to be move and they where very good about that. The beach bar and pool bar where closed. So you had to get the drink at the lobby bar which is a long walk. They are also running out of the beer and then is no chicken - sweet and reg. potatoes not much fruit. So if you want a hamburger and fries you will get a patty and cumber and no buns or fries but they have plantain chip that where cut  [... read more]too thick. I think the chefs could be more creative. There was bread in the main restaurant but not in the pool bar so you at least could have bread between your meat. The staff where very good and now we heard that they are now on 16 hours shifts. They are also running out of fuel because of Venezuela. Otherwise when thing get better we will go back. So I think you have to keep to a 4-5 star at lease. I do like Cuba still and always!.

Aging lady with a lot of flaws and one great space

the hotel is getting old and tired .... it still has value ,,, a magnificent beach ... good staff a new five star is being build next door and expect some changes... one item you must change is to upgrade to a villa or a bungalo ( reasonable cost, plus a balcony , larger and quieter )... the old rooms are small, no balcony and clastaphobic... the internet is odd ... the $1.00 cards are really not dependable... now the hidden gem; the little restaurant that is hidden across from the 24 hou [... read more]r bar .... table service ... good variety of foods, and great ice cream.... just go there for breakfast and lunch .... avoid the lineups in the main restarant ... you will love this place ... the value is good,,. the beach is fantastic and the litle coves are great to snorkel yes, the place is older .... just enjoy and have a great time (one suggestion to make to your travel agent ; do not book the labour day weekend here.... it is openhouse for the locals ) .. once the weekend is over , this is a great place to relax and enjoy the people and weather of cuba

Club Amigo Guardalavaca (villas) worth more than 3 star

Club Amigo has four section: Old Club Amigo, Bungalows, Tropical and top of the line Villas where we were located. July and August are the warmest months of the year especial in Cuba also no school therefore you can expect a lot of tourists from all over the globe especially Cuba a little crowded but Cuban people are very friendly. There is no fear or violence's to go any were or anytime. Yes, you may have to wait sometimes in line at the restaurant but the food was no diferance than 4* hotel [... read more], plenty of food and my favorite Cuban Ice cream. I could say we go to Cuba for Sun, Water and plenty of free entertainment (live bands, dance gropes, aqua acrobatic kids show, etc.) but not looking to gain pounds! We had Ocean view of 140 deg. hot water and A/C. 15 days without interruptions and located very close to ocean, one 24h. snack bar and many others including 1 in pool) Ocean water was very worm, almost no waves also lots of shade. For the money it is worth every penny.

Worst time ever

Absolutely worst Cuban experience I have been to many places in Cuba and I have stayed at club Amigo Atlantico Guardalavaca before and I was treated like shit Over crowded with Cubans I have a new look on Cuban people and how rude and pigs they are No food at breakfast lunch and dinner as they load up 3 plates at a time I ended up having to eat off site I will never stay at a club Amigo again So disappointed Tripcentral should have posted that the hotel was 95% Cubans in August 4 [... read more]% Russians and 1% everyone else Shame on tripcentral I will never use tripcentral again
