Service second to none!

Long awaited daddy and daughter trip Dec 5-12 2022 Maya Riviera, Mexico Can’t deny it, it was great! Service is great, food and top shelf drinks are amazing, people are nice, friendly and most importantly it’s likely been the best of Mya’s days in her near 14 years. So much fun swimming with Mya lol! Our room overlooks what’s called the infinity pool. It’s called the Infinity pool because when you’re in this pool and look to the ocean you cannot see the boarder of the pool and all you see in the ocean indefinitely. The ocean is about 30 meters away, 24hr snack bar with booze less than a one min walk away and 24hr room service. Overall, a great trip and nothing the hotel won’t do to please a guest! I wanted to eat at the steakhouse but unfortunately it’s for adults only. They went above and beyond so Mya my child could enjoy the fiest, They brought the meal to our room and Mya had a steak too, thanks Behia Principe, will see you again in 4 months!

Very nice resort

The rooms were rather basic for a five star hotel. The buffet and restaurants were very good. There were lots of pallapas for shade, and waiters always on hand to deliver drinks on the beach and around the pool. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. Entertainment in the evenings was very enjoyable.

Fantastic Resort

I can't say enough about this resort, it was spectacular. Very clean,amazing staff and lots of activities for all ages. The beach was absolutely pristine every day thanks to the wonderful gentleman who cleaned away all the seaweed. Take my word for it,you will not find a better resort in all of Mexico.

Bahia Principe Akimal

I was expecting more…it was average and looked like the Coba and Tulum resorts which were supposed to be a step below the Akimal and Sian Kaan resorts which were all on the same property. Buffet meals were average at best and the ala carte dinners were better. Our AC wasn’t that great and apparently that is how it is in the buildings. Amazing resort

This hotel was beautifully designed landscaping were very impressive! My room was clean daily on time with fresh toiletries and the mini fridge was stocked daily. The restaurants and foods prepared were mouth watering. Didn’t visit the buffet for dinner and lunches… I’m giving this hotel 9/10 only because of the beaches. I hope they will have more swimming area for the sea lovers like myself.

Disappointing

This was the first time we have gone to this resort. I’ll start with the good things about Bahia Principe Akumal. The staff genuinely work so hard at making sure the guests enjoy themselves and make them happy. The biggest asset this resort has. Whether it was COVID related or just the owners not putting money into the resort but it was really run down. Upon check in we were told we had a room with two double beds, however the other staff said they are more like twins and he was correct. [... read more] We stated we requested a king and would really like that as we could not push them together (although the staff told us to do that, but a massive light sconce was on the wall, preventing us to do that). The next morning guest services said they had a king bed in the best building #66, first floor with ocean view. Gorgeous!! Smaller room and in need of repairs and updating. Within a few hours we noticed how humid and warm the room was. We called and asked for maintenance to come look. The man that came said there was a water block and fixed it. It wasn’t fixed. We waited a couple more hours and called the front desk again. They Told us to wait in our room and would send someone again. We waited 3 hours and I went to the front desk again and they gave me their direct number to call instead of taking the tram up there. Still wait in the room until they came back. Two more hours and no one. I called the direct number and no one answered. Again I went to the front desk and was told the supervisor would come and we still needed to be there. The entire day was wasted waiting for no one. The next morning (now day three ) I went again to the front desk and stated it was 33 in our room and very hard to sleep. They asked me to return to the room for a supervisor of maintenance. Instead I asked for a manager of guest services. Andreas the manager came to the lobby to listen to what what was happening. He asked me to wait there and he would sort. Within an hour he had another room one floor above the current and he and I would go see if any cooler. He came in our first floor room and stated how hot it was in there and we all went to the room upstairs which was cooler. About 10 degrees cooler. He said to pack again and he would be back within the hour to move us and give us our keys. We were now almost at noon, a half day gone, the full day before gone and on our third room in as many days. Extremely disappointing. The view was even more gorgeous and kept saying that was the one positive about it. The restaurants were all very good, even the buffets. One note though, they are not air conditioned, so many around us including us complained about the heat and how sweaty we all were. Air conditioning in 37 degree temps is a necessity in rooms and restaurants. There was no relief anywhere. The beach’s are all inundated with seaweed and the poor staff are working consistently for 12-14 hours a day to try to keep up with it and get rid of it. Mother Nature gets the blame on that one. We had upgraded our trip to the adult only section only to be told once there by other guests that any adult can use the adult pool and not pay the extra fee for it, as anyone could use the beach and pool anytime. The pool was constantly packed and no loungers or chairs would be available unless you went out at 6am and out a towel on the chairs. Unfortunate it was that overpacked at that pool. We used the middle pool at the resort a 5 minute walk from our building. Or we used the beach. We had a staff member from the Prestige group at the resort. (A time share type of service) She was pretty demanding and almost harassing each time we came to the lobby to go eat. One day she even knocked on our door to ask us to go listen to the 90 minute presentation about us buying into Prestige and pay half of what we paid this time. We had to be abrupt and tell he we were not interested at all. The trams are a nice touch when they make all 4 resorts available to use. They come every ten minutes and at big resorts that’s a huge plus. Overall this is not a resort I would recommend at all. They need to do major improvements to most buildings, upgrade their air conditioning and was not worth $4,000. We had gone to Barceló twice before but was not available this time. We met another couple who also had been to Barceló multiple times and couldn’t get a week there and stated Barceló was far more luxurious, a much nicer beach and gorgeous rooms and cold air in them. After COVID we really didn’t know what to expect and we’re so excited to go away. Disappointment after spending that much money is very unfortunate. Out of 10, we would rate this a 3.5 or 4.

Great service, Awesome food!

The resort itself is great....grounds and pool are beautiful, the buffet dining room is very nice with a great selection of food, everything is clean and we felt safe. All of the ala carts that we tried were all delicious with great service. What we didn't like is that the rooms are dated and the air conditioning in our room wasn't keeping up, very warm. We had paid for a deluxe room in the adult only section and requested a king size bed (that's what we have at home) There were no king si [... read more]ze beds available, we were given a room with two doubles. A room with a kingsize bed came available two days in, so we moved rooms. The beach is rocky, bring water shoes.

Honestly Amazing

The hotel grounds are absolutely amazing. Our room was neat and clean. Room service came everyday to clean and replenish towels. Masks were worn in main lobby indoor settings and when walking into restaurants ! I loved how organized everything was. I went with 2 other adults. Buffet not as good as the restaurants which you do need to book reservations for. Bring water shoes to the beach lol. We did thank God. Beach was clean. Overall 4.8/5 ! Loo

Great resort

The service at this resort is amazing and the staff are extremely pleasant. The food at the buffet and at the a la carte restaurants is amazing - could not ask for more! The only thing that is not great is swimming in the ocean - perfect for family with small children, if they wear water shoes, but not so much for adults. The pools make up for it as you can get a quiet spot or a very active one. Really enjoyed my stay

Very good resort

We have been going to the Bahia resorts for many years food is good in buffets and the a la cart restaurants, grounds are well kept and well cared for, we stayed in the adult section rooms in need of upgrade/maintenance, Beach unfortunately is full of seaweed the clean up guys do an amazing job of taking care of it main beach was always clean small beach in front of infinity pool also kept clean. Amazing Resort

The service was excellent, everyone was very helpful with all our request - we requested a different location on the resort and they were very happy to make the change. Overall excellent time....................................................................................

Needs improvement

Having to dispose of toilet paper into a waste paper basket (at all times) instead of directly into a toilet was gross and having scented toilet paper in the hotel room caused irritation which was quite uncomfortable. Very limiited in food choices when eating at the buffet due to lack of signage or incorrect signage (so not knowing what certain foods were). Not having the many sea food dishes segregated as there was too much of a risk with cross contamination from the utensils meant I could not  [... read more]eat much at times. Showering in a tub that needed to be scrubbed as the finish of the bottom of the tub had trapped in dirt and felt slimy. Continually having to ask for face cloths every day and even when trying to use towels for two days there were still times when even clean towels were not left in the room. First day at the resort found some of our towels had ground in dirt in them which was upsetting. Tiny pillows (not even standard sized pillows) and uncomfortable beds. Someone on our floor had ordered room service and the tray with leftover food and drinks was left out all day and night and racoons got into the tray for over two hours at 4am in the morning smashing dishes, glasses and leaving a disgusting mess on the floors and table/bench where tray was left. This mess wasn't cleaned up until much later the next morning. Why are room service trays not picked up in a timely fashion? Multiple staff saw this tray and could have reported it to food services...maybe they did but it was never picked up. Room has not been thoroughly cleaned in a long time included cloth covered couch and chair which were in dire need of a good vacuuming. Blankets on bed are really old and used and even though they put an extra mattress topper on top of the original mattress they were both old and uncomfortable. Room was damp and mouldy and triggered my asthma. Entertainers in lounge areas and performing at the regular 9pm show lack talent and that is the most polite way I can describe the entertainers. Tired of seeing people completely drunk who obviously had been overserved. My husband had to pull one guy out of the pool who was passed out from being so drunk. The temperature of the pool increases as the day goes on due to the heat but also having people who obviously must urinate in the pool (as they never get out of the pool but always have a drink in their hand) meant the pool and pool water was gross by the end of the day. Needless to say after many years of going to all inclusives I will no longer take this kind of trip.

Beautiful resort with exceptional customer service

Didn't know what to expect since it was our first time at such a large resort. Even though it was large it never felt crowded. There was always plenty of seating in the dining room and available chairs at the pool/beach. Hands down it was the best customer service, from the manager Oscar, to the dining staff Armin and the drink ninja Melissa. Everyone was willing to make your vacation top notch. Great resort!!

We stayed at the resort between January 27- February 10 and we loved it!! Food was great, entertaining team was awesome. Resort and beach was very clean, staff were very friendly Most of all we were there with 2 kids, 11 and 8. My 8 years old loved the kids club. Every single day they had some new activities and fun things to do for the kids. The only thing is gym is very run down and very small. Some restaurants we couldn't get in or book in advance, even if we stayed for 2 weeks, it was booked [... read more] straight through. Lots of Fun!

Overall a fabulous place to stay in Mexico. The beach was a little bit rocky in some parts which made it hard to walk out in the water. I got eaten alive by potentially sand flees, but that could happen anywhere. The wildlife was adorable, and so friendly. Unfortunately my friend cut himself on the bottom of the pool and needed to get stitches. Carlos was amazing dealing with the situation. I can’t wait to plan my next trip.

Travel to Bahia Principe after lockdowns

Over all we are impressed with the Bahia Principe family of resorts. We travelled through out all 4 resorts in the Mayan riviera- and were impressed by the safety measures in affect. Our room was sanitized before we arrived, gloves were provided upon arrivals to all restaurants and buffets, and hand sanitizer stations all over the hotels. Masks were worn by all staff- and the policy was enforced when in all common areas. We only have 4 stars for rooms as the rooms at Tulum are updated and Akumal [... read more] is still waiting for an update, pools and beaches are ok- but you can travel to the other resorts to partake. Overall- an amazing trip as always at the Bahia!

Enjoyed this Resort

Our overall stay was lovely, appreciated all the staff, everyone was happy, friendly and very helpful, protocol in keeping everyone safe during this pandemic was very appreciated- made us feel safe and comfortable. Definitely recommend Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal

Mediocre situation

Total: 1/5 stars 4/5 stars Being part of a resort complex, Akumal offers access to 3 other resorts' restaurants and facilities (Coba, Tulum, Sian Khan). This means more options for a la carte dinners, with great to excellent food/menu. 0/5 stars It also means that 2 of those extra resorts are crowding in Akumal's beach side lounge chairs, making it really hard to find a sun bathing spot. 0/5 stars All food and drinks have tons of sugar in them (sugar cane based), obviously targeting  [... read more]the US tourist. It's insanely hard to find any non-sweet cocktail, and good luck finding tacos at the breakfast/lunch buffets. 0/5 stars Spa appointments are hit or miss, the app based scheduling is horrible (applies to restaurants too), check-in took 1 hour without taking into account the line-up, and even then it was incomplete. WiFi access was not enabled, so we had to go back in line a 2nd time.

Unbelievable time

Food is good especially in the restaurants. Beach is amazing. Rooms are amazing. The staff is very friendly and helpful at all hours. It's paradise. The pools are very clean . We will defiantly be going back to swim with the dolphins.

Great family reunion

So wonderful to travel to an all inclusive again after and unfortunately during COVID. The resort responded very well to these times. Staff always had masks on, we needed masks to enter dining facilities, with a disposable plastic glove to use gathering food at the buffet. Capacity was also limited. The actual PCR test required long line ups even though appointments were scheduled. However we received the results in due time. Please note, if you pay in pesos you save a lot of money!
