Incredible Recovery!!

I spent three weeks at Hotel Playa Coco in late November/early December in 2014, 2015, and 2016. I took a liking to the fine facility and the wonderful staff. Of course, I was eager to return this year, but was concerned about the condition of the resort, following Hurricane Irma. I had seen photos of the damage, and was skeptical that repairs could be made in a few short months. In hindsight, I wished that I had stayed three weeks again. The resort was repaired and renovated beyond my expectations!! The 'trashed' lobby and buffet restaurant were beautifully restored, as were the rooms. There was new furniture, an LED television, and a lovely, high quality new bed in the room. In truth, the room was much nicer than in previous years!!!! The buffet restaurant featured all new tables and chairs, and was tastefully decorated. Ditto for the lobby. The old Beer Garden was rebuilt, but renamed Snack Bar Guantanamera. There is a lovely, new Beer House, next to the gymnasium, which is open from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The Ice Cream Parlour is still there, and there is a rebuilt Amphitheater. They are building a large restaurant [2 or 3 a la carte restaurants] and bar just off the beach, next to building 5. It was slated to be finished by late December. The pools were in excellent shape, and cleaned daily. Both feature a pool bar. Per usual, the food was very good, and the staff friendly and helpful. The staff and entertainment were amazing. I could not have been treated better or had more fun. For the price this resort goes far and above your dollar value . I will be back for sure! The resort was beautiful so soon after the hurricanes and the staff were friendly and very accomodating.special thanks to yasbel , michel, and kenia!!

Amazing resort

This hotel is newly renovated after hurricane. New furniture beds mattresses and everything white. Grounds are beautiful. They keep adding new palm trees. Buffet has a lot of variety foods. Japanese is very tasteful and Italian has the best pizza and spaghetti. Pools are clean. People are nice. The most beautiful thing is the beach

Amazing weather and beach- Aug 31 - Sept 7 2017

Beach great, but lots of coral along the shore. Pool did not visit, but looked okay Food could use some improvement, not much of a selection and very repetitive. What I ate tasted great though. I have them cook most of my meals in the buffet. Room was ocean view, however a construction sight in front of us, very misleading when we booked. Bedding was not changed only shifted around each day and towels had a bad smell one day.

The beach was nice, but not as nice as the Carieb next door. Lots of coral getting in along the shore. Beautiful sand. Food was okay, but very repetitive. Our last two days they had flown in the big bosses and everything was perfect. You could see the silverware shine and the buffet was fully stocked with all kinds of choices to eat. My husband actually enjoyed his steak this time, not tough. The al la carte was not that great, seafood but not vey good selection. The Japanese was not open, but they did have sushi a couple of nights in the buffet. We could not get a reservation for the Italian overbooked. Our room was okay, looked nice. We had an ocean view, however we had a construction sight in front of us, as they were building a new beach restaurant. Very misleading when we booked. The workers were also working all the time so it was very loud. The workers also were staying in the bottom floor living while working. The room as looked after daily, however they never changed our sheets and one day our towels smelled really bad. We did have adjoining rooms which we really liked, travelling with our teenage son. Bathroom was never really cleaned, sink and counter. Our coffeee was never replenished after the first day. The entertainment was good, but also very repetitive with mostly dancing. They do not have an area and it was always located in the lobby except for the night they did the water show which was absolutely fantastic. This was not a bad resort, however I would not return. That being said, we left the day before hurricane hit Cayo Coco and I feel so sorry for all the Cubans for loosing their lively hood due to Irma, such devastation and I only hope they get back on their feet really soon. Cayo Coco is our favorite area in Cuba and have stayed at 3 other resorts next to Playa Cayo Coco. Memories Flamenco and the Carieb being our favorite. Hope they can rebuild.

A resort needs to be improved.

Pros: 1. the beach is stunning, crystal clear water, white sand ... 2. Staff were friendly, and helpful. 3. Safe in the resort and the city we visited. Cons: 1. Facility was old. The water sink in bathroom was clogged  in day 1 when we used it,  aircondition was down in day 3 , back door could not be locked.... 2. House keeping was not done properly. In day 1 when we checked in, hairs, stains and particles were observed on the bed sheet, and black stain on towl. Asked house keeper, she  [... read more]changed the bed sheet and towl. 3. The food was not good, especially the food in the Japanese restaurant. 4. Moskitos were everywhere, in door & out door. Maybe this just happened in the summer season. Brought the best brand of moskitos spray, still couldnt protect from moskitos  bite. Conclusion: 1. You can spend your vacation there if you know how to tell if the bedsheet is replaced after the use by the previous guests, and if you don't mind the food that some people even don't want to eat. 2. They have amazing beach & nice staff, but like many of the reviewers, I would say they should change the management to improve the service in this resort.

Nice resort for the price!

I was there for 11 days with my family and overall can say it was great vacation. If you are a picky person about food then this is not the place for you but not sure if CUBA is for you at that point either?? My room was clean and proper and was not missing anything during my stay. I did send an e-mail to the hotel prior to arriving stating that I would be arriving (for the second time) and would like a nice room for me and my family. We also were invited to a nice private supper by the pool for dinner on one evening during our stay. The staff are all very friendly and I especially enjoyed the great staff at the beach bar. Michael who was taking care of our chairs on the beach is a great guy to meet if you go. Some negative aspects are that the pool was dirty and the service is very slow, (Cuba standards). Kids loved the ice cream parlor and we also enjoyed the restaurants. The Tokyo restaurant was great but NO Air-Conditioning made it very tough to enjoy...(small set back in my book). Over all I really enjoyed my stay at this resort and recommend it to anyone with a family who doesn't want to break the bank and enjoy an nice 10 day vacation.

Overall good Food okay for cuba Nice room...clean Pool lacked cleaning Grounds a little rugged Could use daily clean up crews everywhere...sloppy. Under Construction areas As they say..cheep & cheerful. My children and I would go back

Nice Beach

The Hotel rooms are fine but there is one extra small bed that is old and broken. The Staff are not so welcoming and my package is all inclusive but i got one Ala carte which is the Japanese buffet with no air condition that time and it is so hot inside.The buffet does not provide a lot of choices.

Horrible

1. Flight WG602 was delayed for approximately 3.5 hours. We were to arrive to our destination at 7.:15 pm but did not arrive until approx. 10:30 pm. · We only brought cash with us and therefore, could not purchase any dinner on the plane and were left hungry (we thought we would arrive at the resort to have a late dinner) 2. Checked into our hotel (Playa Coco) at 11:45pm. Finally got into a room way after midnight. We were tired, hungry, sweaty and needed to take a show [... read more]er. 3. The first room that we were given was not very nice on the main floor. It had 2 very small double beds and separate single bed (my husband and I would have to sleep in separate beds as we have slept in a double before but these beds were just slightly bigger than a single). We requested to be moved. The receptionist moved us to a new room on the 3rd floor. 4. The second room: · Only had 2 very thin pillows (we are a family of 3) · The air conditioning did not work and could not be fixed (we sweated just by breathing) · The water did not work in the shower. · The sink had lots of water but the plumbing leaked. · The fridge was not stocked and was empty (not even water available to drink). · We made numerous requests to have the air conditioning and water fixed which resulted in the hotel letting us know that these issues could not be fixed and assigned us with another room on the second floor. I had already unpacked our suitcases and toiletries so therefore, I had to repack again and move to a new room . 5. The third room: · The safe did not work. Had to get a technician to come in a fix the safe. (had to wait yet again in our new room so that we could lock up our passports and valuables). · The water pressure was still not the best but at least we had some water to finally wash our hair (by day 3). 6. The hotel dining: · The selection of food was very small · Food was held back from Canadian guests and preference was given to Cuban local guests or Spanish speaking guests · There was a choice of chicken or beef. When my husband approached the cook at the grill he asked if there was any more beef as there was only chicken on the plate. He was told no, and there was no more beef. My husband accepted this without complaint and had the cook grill some chicken for him. As he was eating his chicken he happened to look over at the grill and saw a Cuban local request for beef and the cook reached down and pulled out a entire plate of beef. My husband was furious and asked to speak to the person in charge. They said that they would then cook him some beef. My husband responded that he did not want the beef now as that was not the point. All paying customers regardless if you’re Canadian, German, Cuban local or Spanish speaking should be treated equally with respect and should have the same privileges. · In many cases they ran out or did not have simple things like bread and butter. Everything was on a first come first serve basis. Is that what we paid for? Our first morning breakfast we were told there was no more bread (9am) There was only some buns and without exaggeration it was so hard it could not be even broken when banged hard on the table. (we asked for bread and butter and were told there was no more but magically a Cuban woman walked up to the toaster who miraculously somehow had some sliced bread)!!. When they did have bread, the butter was always frozen. 7. Drinks: · Fridge in hotel room was never stocked with pop or beer. Only received a bottle upon late evening on second day. · The quality of drinks were terrible. The frozen drinks were not frozen. They were liquid with ice. · I was at the swim up bar and was watching the bartender as she filed up a bucket with water from the tap and poured it into the drink machines. They were not even using bottled water to make our drinks. I was lucky, but my husband and daughter ended up with diarrhea. 8. The resort: · On Friday July 14th a few buses filled with Cuban families were brought in for the day to eat drink and play (approximately 200 people).. The pool was overrun and overcrowded. There was only one bartender who could barely keep up. It was difficult to get served. · There were lineups to get food only to find out that there was nothing left because people were ordering mass quantities of food that was not eaten and was strewn all over the ground around the pool. This resulted in the birds overeating and I even saw one throw up a ton of black stuff directly into the pool. The parents from this bus would allow their children to pee in the pool (My daughter witnessed a mother who watched as her kids stand up and pee directly into the pool. The pool was littered by tons of empty drink cups and uneaten food, bird puke, pee and God knows what else. This was our fourth trip to Cuba and always booked with Sunwing. We have also travelled to numerous other destinations. This hotel is rated as a 4 *+. This resort should only be rated way below a 3*. We realize that the food is not going to be the same as a 4* resort in the Bahamas, but we do expect that when it is rated at a 4* we should be able to book with confidence that we would get the same quality that we had at other 4 * resorts in Cuba that we previously stayed at. We have never made a complaint, we always recommended Sunwing and their associated hotels, but we are definitely not satisfied with our flight nor the services offered at your associated hotel. I would expect that the Cuban local or Spanish speaking guests get the same services as us since we are all paying customers. So shouldn’t we not expect the same for us? We are deeply disappointed with our trip. It was not enjoyable. I have never been anywhere that I have wanted to go home early until this time. My husband and myself are now covered in some type of red itchy bumps that are still spontaneously appearing all over our bodies.. We am going to have to go to the doctors tonight hoping that we haven’t picked up something from that filthy pool!!!!

Amazing resort

It's an amazing resort. The most beautiful beach I have ever been to. The water is so clean and shallow. The people are so nice. The food is really good. I would totally recommend it. I love it so much

A True getaway."spoiling me"

With a sudden urge to just "sit on a beach,but a special Beach -Cayo coco,I booked my very brief visit. The Hotel Playa Coco was my gift to me.Although not long enough,I was content with EVERYTHING. From the arrival of Suwing at the Cayo Coco airport to the Hotel to the whole "Check in",I was very,very welcomed.Leaving was the sad part.

Wonderful resort

In hotel Playa Coco works amazing team! Service is very good! Food is very nice. I like a beautiful beach, two swimming pools. There is a Lobby bar 24 h and Beer Garden with a 24 h food available for every client. Next time I will go there again.

Great Experience

Travelled June 16 2017, No issues all week, everything was without any problems. Grounds and Beach very clean, pool warm and clean, food average for Cuba, lots of places on site to get food or drink 24 hours a day. Staff friendly and helpful. Beach is beautiful, water is crystal clear, and calm for swimming. Will return for sure.

Beautiful Resort with great service and wonderful beaches and Pool.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Playa Coco. We had a great Room, the dining was as good as expected, The staff Friendly and welcoming, and we will definitely be back either within this year or early next year. It's a Family oriented Hotel and the friendly and welcoming Hospitality certainly has my recommendation for Vacationers/ looking for Fun, Friendly and welcoming Hotel. Another great vacation!!

After many years of travelling to Hotel Playa Coco glad to see the renovations they are doing to renew the resort. As always staff are amazing!! George is the best! Judy, Michael, Carlos, Leonardo always welcome us like family. Food was excellent. Do the beach bbq for pulled pork sandwiches, and Japonese for the experience and a nice dinner. Beach is excellent for walking especially when the tide is out. You can walk and explore on the sandbar. Pool entertainment is fun and always something  [... read more]for everyone to enjoy. All in all nice relaxing resort, great people and we will be returning next year.

Great week away

The good: small resort easy to get around - great for mobility issues. Great beach. Fast check in. Newly renovated rooms. Ocean view. Nice pool, nice grounds. No wait for loungers at beach or pool. 24 hour beer garden great snack food good service. Good a la cartes. Great entertainment. George and Yaimara are fantastic. The bad: bugs in lobby - no seeums will eat you alive. Need to spray more. Drinks and food are inconsistent from one day to the next. Would definitely go back and wo [... read more]rth the money. 😊

Second Time Here

Our second visit to this resort and it was lovely again. There are some upgrades going on and and will only make this place better. The beach here is amazing, water so clear and calm. We walked for hours. Our room was quite large and the maids looked after us so well. All the staff throughout the whole hotel are friendly & helpful . The food was typical Cuba, but plenty of it . Loved the grill on the beach, burgers, chicken, fish and grilled veggies. Very Nice

Hotel was clean Staff were polite and helpful After checking out @ 12noon and was not going to leave hotel until 7:30pm our luggage was stored away and front desk staff gave us a courtesy suite and fresh towels @ 6:30pm so we could then have a shower before leaving at 7:30pm to the airport
