Amazing Hotel.

Hotel and Staff were very friendly. Food was awesome including 3 restaurants. They had 4 pools to lounge around, plus 2 beaches. Hotel was very clean, and entertainment shows nightly. The town was only 5 minutes away, with free transportation hourly.

Beautiful Resort

This resort was beautiful the grounds were manicured and clean and so well taken care of. The hotel was one of the best well taken care that i have ever stayed in and would recommend to anyone interested in a perfect resort for a winter holiday. The hotel room was decorated nicely but the bathroom needs ventilation for the steam when showering. New (better) pillows would also add to the comfort of anyone sleeping. Beautiful Resort & wonderful staff

The resort was beautiful & rooms were spacious, clean & well equipped. We had a Jr. Suite in the 'golden' area (bungalows separate to the main building) and it would definitely say they're worth a little extra money for the extra space, view of the ocean & scenery. However, there were 76 stairs from our particular suite up to the main pool/building. So people with mobility issues should take that into account. The doc at the lower/smaller pool was a lovely quiet spot to relax. The staff was very friendly & helpful/efficient. Although I would rate the hotel as a 4 star, the food is just 'good'. Not outstanding (even the a la carte).

Beautiful

I have never written a review before but here it goes, an easy to follow description. The pictures alone are almost worth the trip. It is clean, the food is good, the people are friendly and helpful. They have good excursions, all good.

Amazing Week

Just came back from this amazing resort. We had a great time! The food was great and the service was fantastic especially Douglas and Junior. The staff keep everything so clean and make sure that you are comfortable. Can't wait to go back and see everyone again!

Best surprise!

Booked this resort, with pretty low expectations as we were trying to go south and not spend much. Spent only a few days at Gran Bahia Principe Caycoa and the views are spectacular! The view of Samana and the bay are stunning. The best surprise was we got offered to upgrade for free to Luxury Bahia Principe Samana....wow! Adults only, butler service and amazing restaurants! Very nice resort.

We just traveled to the Grand Bahia Principe Cayacoa in Samana for a week we had an awesome trip. The food was good. The resort was clean. The only problem we had was the air conditioner in our room smelt like mould. Not nice at all. Other than that our room was clean, the resort itself was very clean.

Nice resort but lots of steps and walking

Food was fine, same items most nights at buffet but a la carte restaurants were good. Not a resort for anyone with mobility issues - washrooms not close to main pool, buffet not on main level. Strange layout to resort as nothing was close and everything required lots of walking and steps. Our room was clean and quiet as it was outside the main area - 10 minute walk plus 5+ flights of stairs with no option for shuttle and no way to avoid stairs. From main pool, flight of stairs and walk to [... read more] washroom, 2 flights of stairs up to main buffet or 5 flights of stairs down to snack bar. Set up a table at main pool with different types of rice every day, depending on theme. Snack bar by a secondary pool had dress code. Beach was very dirty. Staff was great - animation, bartenders and servers were all very friendly. Everything closes down at 11pm (bar closes, turn all lights off on patio) unless you want to go over to disco, which wasn't worthwhile Evening shows were inside very small, very warm disco. Not as nice as most of the Bahia Principes we have stayed at in the past.

Great resort

It's good environment for relax with family, friendly staff and good food, Elevator to the beach, which is interesting, buffet change menu every day, overall good quality Friendly staff always smile on face, welcoming thank you

Nice quiet vacation

This resort was just what we asked for. A place to relax and enjoy the sun/shade. Our Sea view Villa was quiet, spacious and very clean. The pools and beachfront bar were excellent. We enjoyed the fact that shade trees/ umbrella's were common at each pool/ beach. The main buffet had theme evenings and the food was good. Depending on which area of resort you stayed , there could be many stairs for the active vacationer, BUT free shuttles ran from each area regularly to the main hotel or room [... read more]s if you wanted to ride. Interesting view

This hotel was well kept and very clean. We up graded to golden junior suite when booking. Extra space in room and beach towels there, also one extra a la carte but we cancelled to go to buffet. A la carte nice enough. Most days pool lounge avaiable(three pool areas plus beach). Definitely not mobile friendly! Stairs to everything. Good if your looking for stair exercise!Shuttle avaiable to the door. Some elevators.Not very user friendly as you have to go down halls, up stairs, around the p [... read more]ool, etc. to get to buffet, lobby, etc. But weather was beautiful, meet some great friends. You can see town across the bay, boats, and quiet bay on other side.Overall holiday was enjoyable!

Paradise with a few tiny flaws

We went to Grand Bahia Principe Cayacoa on January 4th for a week. The resort itself is really beautiful. The grounds were always clean and the trees and bushes were contantly trimmed which gave us some amazing views and pictures from every part of the hotel. It is a smaller resort so it had more of a relaxed vibe to the place but it also allowed you to get beach/pool chairs easily. Coming from Grand B [... read more]ahia Principe Coba in Mexico, our standards were really high and Cayacoa did a good job of keeping on par. As for a few of the low points. Point one, the staff's english skills were lacking. It felt like any question i asked just went over their heads. Point two, the Grand Bahia market/shops in town. They have a trolley setup that takes you from the hotel to the shops in town every hour. They had these same shops in Mexico and they were great. Cayacoa had these shops but when we got there, they were all closed or boarded up. Other than that, the resort, the weather, and the drinks were perfect.

Beautiful resort!

I loved the service provided, all hotel personal are genuinely polite and carrying. Room was clean, grounds well maintained and beach well taken care of. Food was very good and diversified, snack bar amazing considering.

Very lush and well designed

Great food both in taste and options. Superb service in the buffet restaurant. Love the elevator to the beach. I loved the beach volleyball. The bartenders at the beach and pool and lounge were very nice and polite. BUT The bartender from the disco was a pervert and touched guests privates. This is when he was off shift and hung out at the disco. In addition The entire resort heard that one girl was actually raped in the bathroom.

Disappointing Holiday

We just returned from a one week stay over the Christmas Holiday and I am sorry to say we would not return to this resort. The grounds and hotel were beautiful and the food fantastic. The hotel is located close to the town of Samana, at night the local residences party until 4:30am each night with the music reflecting off the Hotel. Basically our room vibrated all night to the music coming from town. I spoke to the front deck person (Henzi) who basically dismissed me and told me they didn't ha [... read more]ve any other rooms to move us to. I had just watched a bus of tourists leave the hotel for the airport?? I finally had to ask for the manager, and within minutes he accommodated us. I have never been treated in such a manner at an all inclusive resort. We also booked through Sunquest, we never met our rep the entire week. He didn't show up at the airport or the hotel. I finally had to get the Air Canada Rep to find out our pick up arrangements for us back to the airport.

Nice resort

Very impressive location, beaches not so great. Good food, little limited variety on breakfast and lunch. Dinners very good. Restaurants (3, by reservation) dinners not so great. 10 min. walk to the city (there is also shuttle bus from resort) and you can see real life on the island.

Beautiful Views

Hotel was very disorganized when checking in. Papers not ready. Given key didn't work had to go back. Safe was not reset had to wait 2 days (after numerous calls) to get someone to come and reset it. Towels were taken from the room in the morning and had none until i called and asked when they would be coming. Shower head bracket broken - couldn't raise it so water came out at a 4 ft level. TV was fuzzy and no English stations - till speaking to other guests we were told they had channels - [... read more] that took 4 days.

Definitely a 5 star

Grand Bahia is definitely a 5 star. Hotel is spotless staff are friendly and inviting always a smile on their faces. Entertainers are engaging and work very hard to get you involved. Food in all the restaurants are excellent. The buffet is by far one of the best we have been to. Pools are clean and beach also just the water is not. Lots of debris which they try and clean but can't keep up. View is spectacular. Not sure if we would go back in Nov again cause it rained all week. But any other time [... read more] definitely..

For a bahia this place was about a 3 star

first our rooms were not what we paid for we paid for superior junior suites and ended up with standard rooms this is because none of us could climb the stairs to the hill suites.the buffet rest. was always low on food and when they refilled items the food was at best warm.bar drinks are not very good quality. also the beach snack bar opened at 11am closed at 3pm. dinner was at 7-10 if you did not catch dinner you did not have any snack bars open to get any food all bars closed at 11pm.the fro [... read more]nt reception staff were very rude on check in told us to bad we could not us our hill suites but no compensation was going to be given the manager was to give us free t shirts and a bottle of rum but never recived. myself and the 4 other couples have used bahia resorts several times over the past 20yrs. may be time to try other resorts

Nice Place

Nice hotel, nice staff, but smaller then other Bahia properties that we have stayed at, small buffet, lobby bar closed at 11pm. The property is spread out with higher and lower levels of rooms, so if guests have mobility issues they need to state these when reservations are made to insure they are accommodated in the main building where there are elevators.
