Très beau site!

Nous avons séjourné à cet hotel, du 20 au 27 aout. Très bel hotel, très propre, excellent service, belle plage, bonne nourriture, idéal pour les familles, resto Japonais et Italien excellent. Tout est à proximité. Parmi les points à améliorer: le buffet est un peu redondant, surtout au déjeuner et la nourriture pourrait être un peu plus chaude. Love Barcelo Maya

The Barcelo Maya is a huge resort with one of the greatest beaches on the Mayan Riviera. Staying in the Caribe section was a great choice. It is close to good pools, best beach area, the Maya Mall, buffets... Room was very comfortable and well maintained. Food was good with a lot of choice. All service is friendly and professional. Barcelo Maya Caribe a Family Best Bet

This resort is just a fabulous place to bring a family. There are a lot of fun play areas for children who love water. The beach is spectacular. Rooms were very comfortable, with great showers that had lots of hot water and great water pressure. Bedding was very nice. Good maid service and mini bar service. Food at the resort was good with a lot of choices and many that were geared for kids. Bar service was very good. Easy place to get to all the attractions in the area and also to Playa del Carmen.

Beautiful Resort

It's a very beautiful resort and is kept very clean! The staff are so friendly and awesome! The beach and ocean were beautiful as well! My only complaint was the lack of grills, not a fan of the buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Was there 4 days and only got 2 restaurant meals so we were stuck with a lot of buffets. I've never been to a resort that didn't have a grill or lunch restaurant. Rooms were clean but dated, I stayed in 5374.

Sweet resort

Had a blast on the surf simulator, the food was great! Beach was wicked, weather was nice I have no complaints over here!! The location is ideal if you are looking to visit any sink holes because there is three or four across the road 😀.

Over the top!!

Just returned 2 days ago and are already discussing that we MUST return! Everything you want from a vacation all in one resort: free dolphin shows, theatre shows, poolside entertainment and games, kids splash pads, kids pools beside the adult pools, water slides, white sandy beach (with some rocks), delicious food and a la cart restaurants. The grounds are constantly being cleaned and gardens are beautiful. The Caribe is in the perfect location on the resort as it is central to all the amenities [... read more] that everyone wants to see. No need to use the the on site bus service that travels the grounds when staying at the Caribe.

Couldn't ask for more.

The resort was great, clean and lots to do. Buffet was beyond expectations. Staff were happy and attentive. Enjoyed sailing the included hobby catamaran. Lots of shade on the beach and available chairs. Roach in the room. Slow check in.

What an amazing Week!

Amazing beach, such a massive resort that you will always find something to do. We would definitley return to this resort. I reccomend the Caribe or Beach section - super close to everything. We just happened to luck out and get a room 60 steps from the bar / mall. The buffet food could have been better but neither of us got sick once and we always found something to eat. The buffet had over 100 choices each time but most times the food was lukewarm, cold or super dry. I had pasta one day towards the end and a panini and it was so great to have something HOT. All the bartenders were fantastic, service is best at strikers Victor and Alfredo were my favourite :) there was days at the pool bar we were waiting 15-20 mins for a drink but that wasn't a regular thing. I loved the fact this resort is so big! We got lots of exercise walking around . We are planning on returning one day. I got a lot of mosquito bites while at this resort .. make sure to bring spray! Tips : Bring extra sunscreen ! We went through so much - had to buy some from the beach shop $37USD! Tipping does not change the level of service you get which I found odd. We brought $100 USD for tips but it doesnt make the service any quicker. They do appreciate them though and definitely deserve it Eat & pasta station and grill station if you like your food to be hot. Ask for a ground level room and you'll have sun chairs to lounge in! If you want to save money on excursions we took a collectivo (shuttle) to playa del carmen & tulum. Cost us 80 pesos (2 people) you'll need to cross the highway so be careful ! We went and saw the ruins in tulum and 5th Ave in playa del carmen. The whole thing cost us around 380 pesos - about 25 Canadian .. so much better than the over priced tours ! There are a few cenotes across the main entrance of the hotel that are inexpensive . We ran out of time but you can research on a map. Cenote azul and Khi chen? Cenotes.

Amazing resort

The grounds and pools were beautiful. The beach was very nice. The staff were very welcoming & friendly. Lots to eat, drink & do for the family. The a la carts were exceptional. The rooms were very nice & the beds were very comfy.

Resort was ok - food was not good mostly, most staff didn't speak English so to communicate was difficult - weather was nice, resort clean and maintained, drinks were ok (red house wine I couldn't drink not good), rooms were comfortable

Had a Great Time 28 Jan - 4 feb 17

This hotel complex is a large hotel with the Caribe being 1 of 4. They share amenities like restaurants, beach activities and theaters. This hotel has a little of everything from toddlers to seniors. There seems to be activities for everyone. I took a Hobie Cat course on day 1 and was able to take one out every day there after. Did a catamaran trip to snorkel a reef. saw a turtle, octopus, star fish, puffer fish and many colorful ones I don't know the name of. The beaches are fairly good. There seems to be a windier side and a calm side so you can pick what you prefer. There are lots of chairs so you never had to get up early to reserve them. The pools are plenty and have activities and swim up bars. There are plenty of a la carte restaurants to choose from. We like the Sea Food one best as it had grilled lobster and seafood crepes. We had an Ocean view room which is kind of misleading because even thought the rooms are facing the ocean and are closest to it, you can really only see the pools but the palm trees prevent you from actually having a good view of the ocean. The rooms are nice and balconies have a bubble tub on them on the second and third floors. 1st floor rooms have a swim up pool shared by all the 1st floor occupants. The staff here are great. At the sea food restaurant we were given a flaming coffee show by Mario. Gabrielle at the beach activities is extremely pleasant and helpful. Barcelo has a stage built on the property to the south of the complex. We arrived on the last day of a concert fest called Los Muerto con Queso. I understand that there are concerts here frequently and you should be aware of when they are happening from both a positive or negative perspective. We got to enjoy the concert from our balcony but if it was not my type of music it could have been a less pleasant experience.

The good and the bad.....

The resort was very nice. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. The rooms were clean and spacious. The bathrooms had nice flushing toilets and showers good water pressure and temperature. We loved the proximity that our room was to the beach and the pools were really close to the beach. For the size of the resort the amenities were really well thought out and didn't require too much walking. The food was good also with the japenese and santa fe restraunts being our favorite. The only c [... read more]omplaint I have is the evening entertainment was very boring. The live shows lacked big time and all the other entertainment you had to pay for and it was not cheap like the bowling, golfing... so some evenings felt really long for our kids.

Average resort

rooms dated and need of repair, selection of food not the best due to running out of items. Asked to be located near the beach but near the mall-- entertainment in the mall in the evening echos through the mall very loud so if you want to have shut eye anywhere from 6pm to midnight good luck. terrible sewer smell in bedroom asked for someone to take a look on 2 occasions told by front desk they had checked and it smelled of food I informed them NO--- poop. Great resort

Just returned from the Barcelo Maya Caribe Dec 3-10 and had an awesome time. Beach in front of Caribe is the best for swimming. The Colonial, Tropical and Palace not so good, rocky. Went to 4 ala carte's Tokyo show table lots of fun, Spanish awesome steak wrapped in ham with blue cheese sauce yum, then finished with Spanish coffee made at your table flaming wow amazing, Seafood restaurant also very good shrimp in a pineapple filled with dip, then lobster with hollandise sauce. Awesome job by Joel Hernandez in the Caribe Buffett always greeting us with a smile and conversation made us feel important and remembered our names. Also Juan Cahon and Nicolas Arcos in the Spanish restaurant awesome waiters. Not impressed with the Wifi situation only available for 3 hrs free 10am to 1pm in the mall area of Caribe unless you purchase a package. Other resorts we have stayed at had free Wifi right in your room anytime. All in all it was a wonderful experience and would certainly recommend this resort. It is big and you do a lot of walking so be prepared to get some exercise.

Awesome resort

we have been going to this resort for 10 years it never disappoints biggest draw for us is the amazing beach no complaints ...staff is friendly and helpful rooms are clean and food is good. have stayed at all sections of this resort except the palace.

Could have been better

The nightly entertainment was very poor. The room service was very frustrating. Our room was never stocked with drinks, toilet paper etc. The front desk people did not understand English which was very frustrating.

Amazing vacation !

The food was excellent with a lot of variety. There was a different theme every day of the week. The grounds are very well maintained and very easy to walk through from rooms to pools and beach area. Very modern looking with a lot of tall palm trees. We enjoyed the nightly entertainment with very talented singers and dancers with there beautiful costumes. The pools were huge with swim up bars. Beautiful resort. Very Clean.

Loved the resort. Rooms and resort very clean. Entertainment was good. Service very good. Only complaint I had was the food. Pretty much the same each day and not very hot. Food should be hot. Even when just filled with new food it was not hot; other than that it was great.... Definitely would go back.

Great Resort

The resort itself it very clean, well-kept and is a great vacation spot. The rooms are comfortable and cleaned daily. The only negative thing is the food. While there is a huge assortment of food that would satisfy anyone's palate, the food is just warm, not hot. The selection of food is amazing, but cool vegetables and meat are not appetizing.

Lovely grounds, maid service was great especially Alma, rooms clean, beach and pool area was great. Always found something to eat.food could have been a lot warmer.lots of activity around pool area all day. Very enjoyable.
