Memories varadero

buffet was so so but the a la carte did not provide the enhanced dining experience that they usually do. very large resort enjoyed myself great beach but the nautical activities were limted to tiny alloments of time.

Cockroach Varadero

I could go on but I will make this a brief as I wish my stay was We killed 1-2 cockroaches a day in our room maid left her long black hair in our sink my wife has blonde hair... we asked for a different room and we’re never accommodated They sprayed our room thanks for the now stinking room with bugs... Not one public woman’s restroom had toilet paper all week..... Food at 24 hr ran out of fries every other day and when they had fries they didn’t have hotdog.... Nice relaxing vacation

Flew with AC..and that itself was a great experience..on time and nice flight both ways. I was in Memories 3 years ago..znd that wasnt the best experience then..but this time its was way better..i really have nothing negative to say..the only thing..maybe the room are a bit dated..but everything was working fine. Beach is awsome as usual..food was great. Its was a good deal and i will be back.

Our favourite resort

This is our 9th trip in 11 years since its opening as Sarenas Las Salina. We love the size since you are required to walk a lot. We have established a very friendly relationship with staff especially the ones who have been employed there since it opened. We have also visited some of their homes in Matanza. We will be booking and going again in September 2019.

Amazing resort

I have been to several resorts in Cuba but memories varadero had lot of activities and things to do The staff was friendly and helpful .I enjoyed the shows in the evening and also not too many mosquitos at night. The beach was beautiful.

Great Improvement Great Vacation

Memories Varadero, I will get straight to the imprtant review, Memories had definitely made changes since my last visit in 2014. Front Desk was quick check in, little confussion on VIP and Diamond guests services, but Management quickly solve that problem, Staff seems to be confused in VIP guest services, I did receive 3 different answers from 3 different staffers, That I found quite funny, they need more consistent training and more English language. Rooms- Freshly white painted clean rooms, flat screen TV in upgraded rooms. I was in Bldg 24, my friend 25. New high confy matress, fresh crisp linnens with satin bed covers. Furniture was in good condition. New balcony window , drapes, new doors, and new closet aluminum door. Always hot water available, I didnt notice any mold smell once AC was on. I have allergies, Room was missing some ameneties, like coffee cups and coffee, I did have a Coffee maker though, notepads, pictures on walls. I think rooms are not fully completed, but no biggie, I had what I needed. 1 bottle of water was left on the dresses, only after I asked the manager why my mini fridge was empty, 3rd day I received beer and pop. Im am VIP member. Several Buildings are still under renovations . Very clean grounds always cleaned and vibrant with flora. Beautiful Palm Trees everywhere. Some updates in Lobby and work continues, I was impressed. Food- within week I stayed, always fresh, plenty to chose from, salads, meats station, pizza and pasta stations, seafood station and of course deserts and fruit juices. Stations very clean, Nothing to complain about. Pools were clean, 24 hr. Snack bar, always something open, 24hr lobby bar, coffee bar in lobby was great. Beach was clean, one of cleanest in the area, believe me I walked a lot and visited other resorts, most were almost empty and beach wasn't cleaned daily like Memories. Last day of my stay, there was some washed up seaweed from all the rain. There is Beach Grill and Bar as well. Diamond Club beach section wasnt that busy, has its own bar, plenty of shade and pallapas, bartenders were awesome, made sure our cups were always full. Regular section was busier but still plenty Pallapas and loungers for guests. Entertainment, was great from morning to 2 a.m, always something going on. Beach water aerobics, games, dance lessons, lobby shows, Lobby piano players was great. Nightly entertainment in the square was also amazing, disco afterward. White Party, Bravo MEMORIES!! Service was very good for most part, few new people need training in buffet area. 2 ladies at buffet made us laugh every day, we call them Mamas, one on fruit station, one on breakfast grill.. Fast like speedy gonzales..lol. Very funny. Diamond Club Restaurant in the square for lunch was amazing, great lunch and service. What can I say, I was definitely impressed. I only had one Ala Carte, Japenese, it was perfect, no very salty, pefect taste. I had an oportunity to meet new Resort Manager and the Big BOSS.. Resorts are under management, so far they are doing a great job. I wont name anyone but, A Big Hello !!! to to my beach bartenders. I visited Grand MEMORIES and boy, Memories Varadero is way better and rooms nicer. My friend visited Grand MEMORIES same week and said it was almost empty and food was horrible, as rooms, wished he transferred. In conclusion, I had a terrific time, met lot of people on the beach and pool, I went Solo, but definitely wasn't lonely, or alone. I was very sceptical when I booked because of bad reviews on Tripadvisor, but Im glad I didnt change Resorts. My observations, there was a lot of Latinos the week of Sept 4 to 10, I noticed they received priority over English Speaking and other languages. But they dont tip! I tipped very well and in some areas waited quite long time for service, one point, I actually yelled to get served as bartenders were serving their Spanish speaking friends ahead of me, that happened several times in the week, that is unacceptable. I did mention that to Diamond Customer Relations, but I was told, that It wasnt true..LOL. But, I didnt let that ruin my vacation. Im not a drinker but I do get thirsty at times. My other thing was, I spend a lot on tips on ppl that served me and bought gifts that I made into packages. On My last day, I was asked if I can give them some clothes and toiletries before they finish their shift? I was bit shocked ! I gave this perticular servers 2 CUCS daily. I never had anyone run after me to ask me that before in other Parts of Cuba. Exchange rate , wow its high, 1.48 on $50.00, I got approx. 27 CUCS first night there. Exchange your money in town or airport better rates. Overall, I had excellent vacation and would definitely return for 9 th time if improvements continues. GREAT VACATION !🌴🌴🏖

Nice big resort

I would go back any time Nice big resort, good food, very nice people Rooms are nice and clean Drinks are good, ones in a while you get a not well done piña colada ;) ( that’s ok) like I said we would go again :)

Nice resort!

Just got back from our first visit to this hotel, I must say although I had read horrible reviews prior to our trip, we had a beautiful one week stay. Traveled with my husband and our friends. Our rooms very clean and everything functioned except balcony door (very hard to open). Being diamond club members, we had our beer, water, and soft drinks in our fridge daily, beach towels we exchanged ourselves ( even so they are listed under Extra features-Diamond Clubâ„¢ Inclusions). We also ate at the Italian and Japanese a la carte restaurant, and it was good as well. I probably don’t need to say this for anyone who has ever been to Varadero before, but the beach was absolutely beautiful. This was an nice hotel and we will definitely return in the future!

Excellent

All very good .Hotel staffs are very friendly.Food all in time and lots of fruits.All fresh.Room was cleaned every day and new towels.Beach bar and dining room,lot of choice.Everystaffs are very helpful and friendly.

Garbage Hotel

We arrived around 1030pm to no staff that was able to answer questions or help us in any way. We finally found our room. We could not get a golf cart ride as we were too close but it was dark and we couldn't navigate. We finally went to the 24 hr snack bar that was dirty and unhygienic beyond anything I have ever seen. We were there for a solid 20 minutes before we saw any staff. At one point I walked into the kitchen and the counter was full of hamburgers and hot dogs that looked like they were [... read more] there for a long time. That food seemed to be the food we were served 45 minutes later. Garbage all over the pool, the resort. I picked up garbage daily. Golf cart drivers: all except one were rude and obnoxious and never wanted to give us a ride. Our phone and balcony door never worked so I had to go to the lobby and wait in line for the littlest of things. I finally cracked and complained about a staff member who refused to help me. They offered me late check out and to sign a waiver that I was compensated. I have never experienced anything like this hotel. No water all over he resort the day my son finally reacted to the poor food hygiene. Other vacationers advocated for us to have a room with water. Sure enough there was water in block of buildings that houses the suites. I can go on but it upsets me. I don't think tripadvisor should sell this hotel personally.

Awful

Public washrooms awful! No toilet paper, no running water just grosss!!Pool was not cleaned all week!! Not enough staff for such a large place! Not enough food ! We upgraded to diamond club and payed more and did not have beer most of the time in our room, not a superior room, no ac in the dining, no running hot water/ hardy any water !! We made due as we are adults but very upset sunwing would even have this resort on there list!! It needs some tlc big time!

This resort was more of a 3 star than a 4 star

Our check in was fast and the staff very nice and friendly. With that being said there were a few problems. I was given a superior room with a few of one of the swimming pools. I had specifically said with 2 double beds and was given a king bed. This made me uncomfortable because I did not want to sleep with this friend of mine. The room was very nice all in all. Cafeteria food was definitely substandard. For breakfast they had a good array of choices but when lunch came along it was the same sausage wieners and dried potatoes that was served for breakfast. The same green beans and sliced tomatoes also. The cold cuts were mainly sliced ham and chunky pieces. Dinner they had fish and pork chops as well as your pasta station. Fresh fruit was non existent. Water melon and guava. It was definitely better to eat at the outdoor restos. Lobby bathroom for women (no toilet seats) go figure. Lobby was nice and staff very nice. Pools I have been to Cuba 6 times and this was the first time that I refused to use them. I went into the pool on the 14th and the bottom of the pool was soooo slimy and I mean slimy enough that it was hard not to slip. During the seven days that I was there the POOLs were never chlorinated nor were the decks around washed down. There were drink spills you name it. they were FILTHY all of them.. I went to the ocean because it was clean. Garbage pick up on beach slack but cleaner than pool area. This resort should be cleaned up because it is a nice place to go to This review is an honest review from an honest person. I picked the Memories because of how beautiful and clean when I read about it,

Memories varadero beach resport

This is the 7th time booking at this memories resort. There was 10 of us and a 2 year old. I have read a lot of reviews and I feel like some people shouldn't be travelling. We got great service when we arrived. Amauri got us organized and helped us to our rooms. He is very amazing and nice. Even for the picky peop [... read more]le there was lots if stuff. The a la cartes food was very good with a good variety of foods. The entertainment at the beach and activity pool was awesome. Interacting with the guests. The foam party at the beach was amazing. Lots of fun. The shows were good and the band's at night at the square played great music. At the check out desk you can actually change your money no credit cards anf you dont need to bring your passport like the bank on site needs it. If you like strong drinks your good to go. If not .makensure you let them know to addi light alcohol. The beach was clean and some are our rooms. There were mosquitos at night but what place at night doesn't get them? The only thing I feel that needs to be worked on is the wifi. You can only get it in the theatre or the lobby. Not very strong though. You can purchase a wifi card for 1 peso and it's good for 1 hour of wifi. It doesn't have to be used all at the same time. You can use it here and there. Or you can also get a plan from home. If you go diamond club you have special section beside the buffet with air conditioning. You still share the buffet area. I hope if you book This resort you have the same experience we did. I am planning on returning next April again. The one thing I saw was people getting mad at the Cuban people cause they didn't have something or ordered 6 inlets at one time. Remember they are there working and doing their best to serve you. Think first how you want to be treated, so why test them any differently.??? 😊

Wonderful resort

Public areas are very safe, people working are very kind, foods are great, so much choices,pools are clean, beautiful beach, a lot of things which made our stay really a memories, I definitely come back on this beach resort with lots of friends with me,the best place to unwind and relax.

Beautiful resort

My last trip to Cuba was my 80th time there but first time at this hotel and l have to say it was one of best hotels l have been to if not the best great staff the front desk was awesome helped us move rooms with no questions asked the bartenders were amazing especially Hansel at the main bar

Not bad

There was amazing weather last week. Although the rooms were terrible and there was so much walking. I had to walk my suitcae all the way to the front which was over a mile from the lobby. Also the pool was completely green the first two days. Also the food is terrible, ants in the food as well. The Japanese a la carte was the best for food. My wallet got stolen at the resort. The staff were usually not very happy except a few were amazing. Also the beach doesn’t get raked there and they have  [... read more]sand fleas. Good time with good friends, nice water slide.

Vacation 2.0

Tripcentral helped me from Day 1 to Day 99. It took me months of research and back and forths but I was supported every step of the way. Needless to say, I booked an amazing vacation with my agent and it was seemless and stress free. I had an amazing vacation to boot.

Could of been better

Well I have to say every worker I came across were extremely friendly. The only issue I had was two things: First, they kept running out of cups. Secondly, they only had one buffet open and the resort was massive. Otherwise it was average.

Could be good with some upgrades

Stayed at The Memories Hotel from Mar 8-15 (March break in Ontario). The hotel needs a lot of upgrades. The rooms are old and smelly, the bathrooms in rooms are horrible. There is no fan or proper ventilation in bathrooms so the smell lingers. The maid was nice and tried her best to keep the room clean but due to luck of proper cleaning tools, the floors always seamed to be dirty and with sand on it. The beach is beautiful and sandy with lots of shade. The pool was nice but the water cold. The [... read more] service at the Snack bars was very slow and the bars often run out of vodka and beer. At the snack bars the service was slow unless you tipped. Our waitress at the main buffet restaurant was very nice and very helpful and always with a smile. The worst were the public bathrooms, some with no lights, no toilet paper, no hand soap, and had an awful smell. When exchanging money to Cuban pesos, there was never enough change for tipping as the bank and the front desk kept saying no change available only 5 or 3 pesos and very little in 1 pesos. At one time I had threatened them that I will not be tipping unless I get the change. There are some people that do go out of their way to keep you happy but not many. The entertainment team was very good, the shows were good, the Japanese restaurant was interesting and the food good. Other ala carts were also good. Cannot complain about the food as it was good for Cuban standards, at least our family enjoyed it. We stayed in block 39 which is close to the pool with the slide and close to the beach but too far from the main buffet. Lots of walking at the resort as it is spread out a lot.

The resort was amazing only thing they need to in prove on is the food and beds food was not the best and sleeping on a hard rock bed isn't the greatest thing either then that it was fun .............
