Grand Memories Cayo Largo: Not for everybody, but we were very pleased.

First off, it was too good of a deal to pass up. So we were expecting some hiccups. But, apart from the beach being very small because of the erosion, it was a great place to stay. Service was very nice, and our rooms were clean and food was ok. Off course, there are plenty of other beaches on this Island were you can go, some more secluded than others. You can either rent an ATV or scooter, or get in the free shuttle. The place is very safe, and not overcrowded, and apparently, you can also hav [... read more]e access to the other hotels around for beach access, lunch or drinks. There are also a few rather large corral reefs close to the beaches, and if you are ready to explore on you'll find plenty of marine life. It's our 3rd time in cayo largo, and expect to be going again.

Villa Natura: Sadly disappointed

This was our fourth time to Cayo Largo, and the third to this resort. Although the staff that were usually going above and beyond still are (kudos to William and Ernestad) the resort itself is going downhill fast. There was never any hot (or even luke warm) water in the mornings, and on day 3 they ran out of eggs which lasted until at least our day 7. The buffet had very few things in the morning, two days it didn't even have bread, and the evening was worse. When you look forward to atleast hav [... read more]ing an egg or two and you can't find anything else other than greasy sausage, it's hard to take. You could still get pizza from either of the pool sites (thank God) but they even ran out of diet coke and some other mixes for the booze. There were a lot of annoyed people and I must say, I was one of them. I didn't run into one repeat customer that wasn't disappointed. I doubt we will be back.

Villa Natura: Clothing Optional Resort?

The hotel itself was decent. The rooms were clean and air conditioning and hot water worked great. The food is not so good, but it is Cuba. Pizza's and fries (when they had them) at the snack bar were good. The rum and beer were good. Don't expect anything special when it comes to drinks. If you are looking for pina coladas, daquiries, etc., this isn't the place for you. I knew going in, and after reading reviews on trip advisor, that the beach at this resort was clothing optional. What  [... read more]I didn't expect to see was nudity around the buildings (sunbathing outside of the rooms on the patios) and at the pool by the beach. Other than that, the scenery was amazing. With this resort you get what you pay for, and hopefully you don't pay too much. This is just my opinion. Others seemed to love it and there were lots of repeat customers. I just won't be one of them.

Been to Cuba over 40 times and stayed at over 20 hotels Pros Food is above average for Cuba Drinks are cold and served in a glass not plastic except around the pool. Island is safe and able to walk anywhere Quads or ATV for rent Cons [... read more] There is no beach but the hotel pays for a bus and boat trip to a great beach on the island The path to the restaurant at the edge of the ocean has limited lighting. Bring a flashlight Other Take the free bus trip and wonder around the village at the marina. Marina bar is a great place to sit and watch life go by. If you expecting great food you should take a cruse If you eat somewhere other than the hotel and get sick don't complain to the hotel. Rember your fly swatter and always carry toilet paper in your pocket. You will only forget once

Sanctuary Cayo Largo: Beautiful Cabins by the Ocean

Spent 2 weeks at the Villa Bellarena with shared access to Bella Isla January of 2020, the rooms at Bellarena are amazing, cozy little wood cabins with tons of space. Staff are all wonderful people who go well beyond to help you with anything you need. The hotel no longer has a beach, it can be washed out for months at a time so it's a bit of walk to the next resort to find the beach. Sanctuary Cayo Largo: Disappointed

I travel lots and prefer all inclusive... this is my first review ever...even though I have read reviews of people complaining about the food in Cuba let's face it it's not the best but there's always something you can eat such as pasta... but this was by far the first time that it was all they served that was being prepared in a safe manner....all other foods weren't heated properly... they were left out for hours without proper heat or cooled... the platters were covered with flies ...not a f [... read more]ew...hundreds...The worst food storage, display by far... I can't believe how many people I talked to that said they were throwing up as I was.. I'm sure it was food poisoning...very disappointed with this resort

Memories Cayo Largo: Wonderful time!

Spent a week at this resort and would 100% return! Beautiful beautiful beaches and such a great little island! The only downfall is sometimes the beaches can be washed away but the beauty is that you’re never far away from something even more wonderful down the island!

Starfish Cayo Largo: Amazing vacation

This is our second time at this resort and we are so happy we chose it again. Everything was great: long beach and so beautiful, hotel grounds and rooms kept clean, meals: many choices. All staff was working hard to make everyone’s vacation the best experience. Thank you Sol Pelicano, we had an amazing week.

grounds were clean, friendly staff, way too many flies, food, well its Cuba....Resort was only 30% full, weather was fabulous except for 2 days but we still enjoyed, we had long walks to the beach as ours was washed out with the tide

Memories Cayo Largo: Same old SCL with new paint

When you want to really spoil something, send in a new manager who is into team-building and re-branding. Fortunately, the new management didn't get all their own way, so the old hotel doesn't feel too different. For 9 days the southern trade winds blew strongly, to all the beach was washed away in front of the hotel. But the much-advertised hotel renovation seems mostly just paint. They COULD be trying to compete with the Pelicano, which has one 120v AC outlet in every room, so we Canadians can [... read more] charge our gizmos.But the SCL continues to ignore this issue, so you still need to bring a heavy-duty voltage converter. Factor that into your 50 lb luggage limit. Some of the paint is gratuitous, just to see that something has been done. Why paint heavy battleship grey all over the front of the El Cayito bar, covering up all the nicely-painted designs? The joke of the SolAzul pool bar is to first ascertain whet the kitchen does NOT have, and then make your order accordingly. At the buffet, there were sun-dried tomatoes, for 2 whole days. All of a sudden (never seen them at the SCL in 10 years) there were churros at the breakfast buffet. Mario, best bartender in Cuba, is now a head-waiter, and the El Cayito bartenders are back to their old tricks of overloading your drink with cheap rot-gut booze. .

Villa Natura: Caribbean Jewel!

I have been going to Cayo Largo for over 10 years. I love Villa Iguanna because of its size, quietness and the Cuban people. I just returned on January 19, 2020 from 2 weeks of this little slice of heaven. It's very clean and the staff can't do enough for you. The hotel is old but serves my purpose. The beach is hit and miss, as the whole island struggles with the sea taking away and giving back. I go twice a year and I am preparing to go again February 23 for another 2 weeks. Villa Natura: A Relaxing Time

The negative: We were at Villa Iguana in Jan 2019 & thought the variety & quality of the food was excellent so when we returned this January we were quite disappointed. There were shortages of many foods & all the cooked dishes were heavily salted,Even the cappuchinos tasted very salty . We didn't go hungry but it left a lot to be desired. Memories Cayo Largo: Great stay at The Sol

They are deep into reno-ing the resort. The beach was gone but we found some beach chairs in the dunes so we could sun and see and hear the ocean. Our room was tired but clean. It was very relaxing! The staff was fabulous. We will return ... again.

we went to Sol Cayo Largo for a week January 12 2020 and were pleasantly surprised! we feel this resort should deserve a higher star rating. grounds were clean, food was excellent with lots of choices, entertainment was varied and well done, ocean was beautiful and the staff was friendly, helpful and courteous.

Starfish Cayo Largo: You get what you pay for

Our room was clean but dated and needed some repairs. The grounds are clean.... nothing spectacular. The beach at hotel pelicano was one of the only beaches on the island where you could actually lounge on. The ocean was to rough to actually swim in while we were there. There was only fanta and coke available for drink mix all week. Unfortunately we don't drink either so we really didn't get to enjoy to many drinks. As well no red wine for dinner service all week. The snack bar didn't have [... read more] fries until the last 3 days of our trip. The buffet was pretty much the same every day with a few exceptions. Canned fruit most days with very little fresh fruit. The power went out a couple of times during the week. No water one day for about 8 hours. We got a great deal on the vacation and would've been really disappointed if we had paid full price.

Villa Natura: Quiet resort

The hotel is now run by the Cuban army and has a lot of infrastructure issues happening. More than half of the hotel section isn’t working and the bungalows and half functioning as well. The food is differently been effected by the embargo the the Cuba nation is under now Was there for two weeks and around 60 people each week. Last year there was over 200 people at this resort

Villa Marina: Amazing quiet resort

Villa marinera was a peaceful quiet resort with some.wonderful.staff everyone from.the Gardiner to bartender was friendly and went out of their way to make sure your needs were taken care of. You.need to take a boat ride to a nice beach as there is only a marina at hotel.but pool.was spotless and the lounge chairs had very comfortable thick cushions They depend on shipments from cuba to stock.hotel and twice in a week ran out.of red wine but other drinks were available The rooms were clean an [... read more]d nice. Hot water with good water pressure was prob the best I have seen in cuba. Since there were only 22 rooms you got to know all the guests by name and we all sat together at night Our room was the furthest away from pool and dining and at night the paths could be lit.up better but that was my only complaint. If you want a peaceful vacay this is the place. Food is always an issue in cuba but if you are not fussy and a demanding type you will do fine with the buffets

The grounds and public areas (including washrooms) are well cared for and clean. The staff are pleasant although a bit slow and most don't understand English. The buffet is set up beautifully - not much variety though - and service is good both lunch and dinner. One reason for going back is the lovely 8 minute bus ride from the airport and the use of the Bella Isla and Iquana.

Sanctuary Cayo Largo: Hidden Gem

Beautiful oasis of wooden cabins connected by suspended bridges, adjacent to a great pool, resto and bar AND a sister resort you have absolute access to! If you are like me, an all-inclusive can get boring after 3-4 due to repetition...well this place has much to offer in order to keep the diversity alive and you can also visit the other resorts a short distance away. Direct access to a beach in calmer waters, yet some chairs on rocks available when seas are rougher. Some might find the bus+boat [... read more] rides annoying to get to the pristine beaches (Sinera and Paradisio) but I personally found it intertaining...spicing up the trip with some adventure! Beautiful Ranchon to have lunch and a-la-carte dinner in with fabulous ocean view. Food is decent everywhere and sometimes great (try the fish at the Ranchon for lunch)...no complaints when you know what's up with the Cuba situation. Cabins are great. Comfy king size bed and pillows, AC worked absolutely fine, big double head showers which means no fighting over the water when you take it with your partner. Staff is amazing. Real troopers wearing their hearts big and bold. If you can, bring them stuff. It's the most rewarding thing to see their faces light up when they receive things they have no means to purchase themselves with their meager wages...Outstanding performers at night giving their everything in order to entertain you

Memories Cayo Largo: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

The Good - beautiful white sand beach that goes on for miles with no other resorts west of this resort. Also most of the staff at the resort was friendly and helpful and the hotel is only a 5 minute drive from the airport. The Bad - the beautiful beach was completely washed away after 4 days into the stay when the extremely strong winds started and stayed on for the next 3 days. The food was average with hardly any fresh fruits and vegetables and buffet food is usually cold with no warming tr [... read more]ays. Also the whole island seems to be infested with small black flies even with a plane flying around spaying a few times during the stay. If you are looking for water sports, nothing is available at the resort, you have to travel to Sirena beach (hotel shuttle available for 5 CUC or 2 hour walk on the beach if you are up to it) for any water sports. The Ugly - the initial room that they gave me had no hot water, multiple areas with water damage and then a major fresh water leak happening in the bathroom. The upside is that they did give another room which was better, but the resort is dated and needs some TLC.
