Sonesta Maho Beach: You will need a lot of patience...

This is far from being a 5 star hotel. First, they will make sure to let you know that you’re the « poor » guest of the resort. Ocean point has access to the same grounds (adult only) so it’s not like we have a choice of going there if we have kids... they have the basic of basic alcohol. VERY poor selection. As for the service, there are the usual extremely helpful staff but there are also the very angry ones. I was literally told off at the buffet because I dared to ask for someone to  [... read more]clean the table... another guest was told off because the asked for Clamato (which they ran out of like they run out of everything else) and he dared to be surprised... I’ve never been this badly served by angry waiters and bartenders in my life... I would say spend more and go elsewhere but it’s not like this vacation was cheap to begin with... I could have gone to many 5 stars for the same price if not cheaper and gotten a much better experience...

Sonesta Maho Beach: Central location next to Airport but bad food and service

Hotel is newly renovated but housekeeping was inconsistent. Cleaning was not done thoroughly and sometimes forgot to service some rooms. Food and service were major letdown. Buffet food was always cold and they often ran out of food and did not replenish. Even a la carte restaurants ran out of different ingredients on the menu daily such as bacon, avocado etc. It was strange that most hotel employees were inattentive and indiligent while most people I met in town were kind and attentive.  [... read more] Alcohol and bar service were pretty good. Drinks always had decent alcohol contents which could be a problem in other All Inclusive resorts. Location is central next to SXM and it is fun to watch planes take off and land. It is pretty loud all day long, so it isn't the right place for you if you are looking for a quiet getaway. This hotel shares a small beach with the next door hotel and lots of public who visit to watch airplanes so it gets pretty crowded. There is only one pool and it does get pretty crowded. People reserve chairs early in the morning.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Great Resort!

Our stay at the Sonesta Maho was wonderful. The facilities were great. The weather was beautiful most of the week.The resort is clean and comfortable. The food was good. The Maho beach is very beautiful, near of the hotel.

Esmeralda Resort: All went wrog

Did not get to stay at Esmeralda. Riots Lucky me. I am going to St Martin and staying in what I think will be a great little resort on Orient Bay, the French side of the island. I was greeted at the airport by a Sunwings person holding a sign with my name on it. I was the informed that protests and riots abound and it is not safe to go to French side. Sunwings did the best they could and I was relocated to a vert large, very noisy all inclusive resort pretty much right on the runway of the [... read more] airport. Nothing quiet here, but that ok I will go sit on my balcony. EXCEPT my balcony overlooks the sewage or garbage area with a huge, very loud fan blowing really smelly air, making it impossible to sit on my balcony. I am not even going to get into commenting on the food. I am certain the protesters had good reasons but none the less they totally ruined my vacation. Sunwings did the best they could and did look after me in the circumstances. This is my last trip to anything French unless they want to reimburse me the several thousand dollars I wasted in this trip.

Sonesta Maho Beach: amazing transformation

The rooms were beautiful in comparison to what they were before renovation. The grounds were lovely. The staff was very accommodating and pleasant. This was our third visit to our favorite island and resort. Unfortunately, we found the food was not as it was before. Improvement is much needed.

Simpson Bay Resort Marina and Spa: Clean and well kept. Close to airport.

Rooms and property were well maintained. Very clean and orderly. A little disappointed that there wasnt a long stretch of walkable beach. Property area was quiet (mid November) however it was close to busy stretch of restaurants and other merchants. Nice view of the bay from room. Can see and hear lots of Airplanes going in and out of airport.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Great time.

Hotel was clean. Food was great and I eead a lot before we went about people waiting for elevators and the restaurants. Most we waited for the elevAtor was 1 min tops and maybe 4-5 min to get a seat in the buffet as the hostess was seating people In groups as they would come in. Only down side to be picky was the entertainment, Compared to other all inclusive resorts they weren’t as friendly as the others, shows were 30-45 minutes max and 3 of them were the same thing!! Sonesta Maho Beach: Nice resort

Our room 756 was a premium ocean view. It was very clean. The only item missing was the instructions for thermostat. Fridge was broken for 2 days. Due to plane delay, we stayed in room 555. This room had the back view of the hotel. If I had stayed there for a week I would have been very disappointed. There wasn’t a bar of soap provided.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Amazing Resort

Our check in was flawless, the transfer to the hotel from the airport is approximately 5 minutes, loved this. The rooms are beautiful and kept spotless. Wasn’t impressed with the lobby, really no place to sit and relax with a cocktail or latte. Buffet was adequate but really not big enough for the amount of rooms. It helped when the beach restaurant was open for breakfast but that was a hit and miss. Reservations for dinner for us worked out great, however some of the guest had problems ge [... read more]tting a reservation. The pool had issues and not enough shade, we found it hard to get out of the sun, average temperature was 101 Our room had an ocean view, not much of a beach due to hurricane Irma. All in all we had a great time and would definitely go back.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Amazing resort

Great food. Great service. Great entertainment. They did a fantastic job in rebuilding after the hurricane. Would definitely go back. Great for adults or family's. Rooms were very spacious. Easy to get a coffee or a snack most hours of the day. The pool was awesome and the ocean was fantastic.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Amazing resort

I loved this resort. Ignore the bad reviews. The staff were wonderful, never had to wait long for an elevator and although the buffet is small, there;s still lots to eat. The Italian restaurant was my favourite. My son liked the hot stone cooking. .I would definitely return.

Sonesta Ocean Point Resort: Just such a wonderful place.

This resort was classy, clean and the food was delicious. We had the pleasure of having world class cuisine at Chef's night. The staff was friendly and the tour guides were knowledgable and fun. Relaxing scenery and gorgeous sunsets everyday.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Very nice hotel and great location

I was at this hotel in 2016, the changes at the hotel were good. The grounds are kept immacualte. The food was not that greatest but the point and the lava rock was good. Morning breakfast did not have enough staff

Sonesta Maho Beach: one of the best!

Initially, I was worried about this resort as the reviews were very mixed. I am not sure why I worried because it was really great experience! Friendly staff! Clean ground and hotel! highly recommended.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Nice enough resort, still recovering from hurricane.

Rooms were ok, air conditioning unit didn’t work well. Public areas could have been cleaner. Pool area in poor condition, food was just fare. Staff was great and very attentive. Sunwing Airlines just horrible, We were bumped from our seats that we purchased over three months prior, our flight was changed to stop in Montreal and then Saaint Martens. I was more less called a liar at check in Toronto, I tried to have the lady look at my paperwork to show her my purchase of Elite seats she more l [... read more]ess told me to shut up, finally after 20 minutes of yapping on the phone in front of me she looked at my phone with the receipt with the row numbers we had purchased. Once we arrived in Montreal there were other people that they sold the same seats to. Of course on the way home when we were in the Elite line we were tossed out of this line and told we were in general boarding. We had a regular seat, and there was kids sitting in the Elite Seats. It is not that we think that we are better than anybody, it’s that my husband and I both have health concerns, he is a bigger guy and needs more room. It was our 35th wedding anniversary, All the people stayed at Maho and there was A lot of animosity, my husband didn’t what to leave his room. Will never ever purchase a Sunwing Vacation again Everybody beware of this Airline,on the other hand if you want a middle line family vacation this resort would be fine.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Good for the price

The service at the resort (for the most part) is horrible. Don’t let that ruin your vacation. My advice - don’t tip until you find a bartender slash server who deserves it (a couple do). Those employees will take care of you. The beach is beautiful and the rooms are very nice and updated. I’d recommend renting a car and checking out the entire island. If you go to Philipsburg to shop, you will find cheaper prices in the actual stores versus the outdoor market areas. If you want [... read more] to visit multiple countries (via excursions) this is the hotel to go to. Overall it’s a decent resort, just don’t expect top flight service. Most employees are not happy to be there and are just going through the motions during their shift. I blasted one bartender who served someone who walked up to the bar. I had been standing there for over 15 minutes. This seemed to be a primary French speaking resort (vacationers). Lots of old people, couples and families. If you are young, go in a group. My friend and I didn’t make many friends, lots of snobby people. Night life on the resort is brutal, but you can shop or hit the casino(s) or club across the street.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Amazing place!

Had a great time at this hotel. They did a great job at rebuilding it since the hurricane! The hotel was clean however lots of straws on the beach! Luckily they just began phasing them out. Would be nice to see more efforts like that in reducing plastic consumption

Sonesta Maho Beach: Disappointing Anniversary Getaway

My husband and I decided to go to this resort to celebrate our Anniversary on August 18th. When we got there, we were amazed with how fully renovated the building is. However, we believe that the most important thing a vacation can offer you and their service and how it makes you feel. Not a single welcome package was given to us. Most resorts would give out a gift basket for anniversary celebrations, even decorate a romantic room - no questions ask. We didn't want to ruin our first few days, so [... read more] we let it go and decided to just book a romantic dinner at the resort ($200 cad) - this was expensive for us but we wanted to feel the celebration a bit more since the resort lacked that touch - we decided to just pay for it. We booked with the agent and she was ecstatic to find out that we were celebrating our anniversary. She even promised that she'll have our gift baskets and have our room ready for a romantic night on that day... (i was excited) We were booked for dinner at 7 pm at the ocean point for their private romantic candle lit dinner, the hostess just pointed us go to the rooftop and just told us the directions....there were no lights, no one at the top... it was empty and we had no idea where to sit or if anyone will be aware that we will be there... she couldn't have seated us... and I have a video footage of the whole thing since we were expecting that it would look romantic and delightful (we have been to other romantic dinners offered by other all incl. resorts and we indeed enjoyed them!) to our surprise, it was sketchy and we felt abandoned. We waited for about 10 mins.. and finally saw a staff, who was cleaning up not sure if putting away/cleaning stuff and just putting them back on.... it certainly did not feel like they were prepared for our reservations... we had no one to talk to, no server, no manager, no hostess around, no light on the rooftop, no candle light, no menus, no food. It was very disappointing. we left the area and had informed the front desk that we will have to arrange another dinner reservations as the one we booked was clearly a fail. We had to go outside of the resort, and went to Jax;s for steak dinner instead, which gave us a phenomenal service. After dinner, i was hoping at least one thing that the booking staff promised us would come true,.. I was hoping to have our room at least to be filled with balloons/petals as promised by the staff... added to our disappointments, this was not successfully done either... The next day, we bumped into an HR manager and had informed her of what happened, the name of the staff that arranged the reservations and her promises to give us a gift in our room and decorate it. I had given her my information and room number then she assured me that she will look into it and that she will prepare something for us to compensate for the inconvenience. Waited for days, and NOTHING. Sonesta Maho failed to give us even just a satisfactory vacation experience... Many people i know that had gone on the trip also had the same sentiments and we know that we will definitely not be back.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Horrible resort!

If you love beaches and airplane watching, you might consider this resort. Otherwise dont bother. The services, the quality and quantity of the food are very bad. You would be left hungry if not knowing when go to eat. The pools are very small and crowed.

Sonesta Maho Beach: Do your homework

The hotel is not ready to be an all inclusive. The rooms are great, clean, modern and new. The pool and beach are great. The drinks are good, beer from a can not draft. The food is terrible. The resort cannot accommodate the number of guests and the food options and limited and not good. Reservations were impossible to get at the restaurants. We ate off site and that made a huge difference.
