My second time here and won’t be my last!

I absolutely love this resort. It checks off all of my requirements and allows me a relaxed, chill, fun stay. I book the swim up rooms which are superb. The rooms are fresh, contemporary and clean. The staff is incredibly friendly and in terms of amnenities, they’re all wonderful. The grounds are designed quite nicely and there’s never a lack of personal space. If you’re looking to party on, there’s that too at the main pool which is a blast! I’ll be coming back for sure. I love the re [... read more]sort and the area it’s in. If you’re a walker (like I am) walking to Playa Del Carmen’s city center is about two hours along the beach which is marvellous if walking and nature are your thing.

Every day was something new!!!

From sunrise to sunset, we had everything at our fingertips. Amazing resort, staff, rooms and pools. The beach is great and you can walk all day long. The swim up room made the holiday perfect! We were at the Grand Sunset Princess back in 2014 and wanted to come back for more. Never disappointed and so many excursions that we were able to get to. Swimming with the sea turtles was the dream that came true! Coming back for a third time for sure!

A Solid 4*Resort

We were impressed with the well kept grounds, clean pools, hardworking, attentive and courteous staff, above average food, and our accommodation. We were disappointed with our location close to the main pool. It was very loud from 11:00am to 5pm. We wish we had researched a little more before booking.

Stuck in the 1970 s

The staff were friendly and accommodating. The restaurants were subpar ,thankfully the buffet was top notch. The drinks were hit or miss ,room service was very slow 45 minutes and cold but all in was still fun...

Nice resort but not 5 star.

This resort was a series of hits and misses. For example, the activity pool which offered some of the cooler activities was out of commission... miss, but the buffet was delicious, varied it's content, well maintained and clean... hit. On the other hand the beach was overrun with seaweed... miss, but had ample seating and an excellent balance of shade & sun PLUS super beach bar service... hits. The room was large and clean enough... hit, but did not contain a full length mirror... miss. [... read more] The spa was disappointing. We booked a couples massage and the last 10 minutes of the treatment it became very apparent that both masseuses were more interested in the silent conversation they were holding than completing our treatments as their hands stopped moving entirely so that they could focus on one another rather than on us... miss, however our subsequent pedicures with the fish tank was amazing... a giant hit. The ATM in the lobby would not accept my cc and the front desk was completely useless and uninterested in assisting me in obtaining any cash... massive miss. To be clear, the card worked seamlessly everywhere BUT the hotel sanctioned ATM. Other misses in my opinion were that the a-la-carte restaurants did not offer any vegan options, nor did the snack buffets. Overall a nice place to stay. No the 5 stars they claim to be though... more like 3 1/2.

Wonderful getaway!

We went as a couple, my husband and I, just to unwind and take in some sun. Service was 5 star, never waited for tables or drinks, waiters very attentive! Rooms always cleaned and made up so wonderfully and promptly each day. Staff super helpful and friendly. We stayed in the platinum section and were pleased with the location and short walk to restaurants and beach. Completely surpassed my expectations as I had read some questionable reviews. The only negative comment would be that the beach f [... read more]ront is rocky entering the water and some days there can be a lot of washed up seaweed, but that's an issue that the entire shoreline of playa del carmen battles with and not much the resort can do about! And so they make up for it in all the other areas! As for swimming in the ocean we simply walked 1 minute down the beach to the grand princess section (which you have access to and all the amenities there as well!!) and their beach is super easy and fun to swim from! We had a great time and have zero complaints and no regrets! Super relaxing and just the right amount of quiet time mixed with some enjoyable entertainment.

Awesome Resort

Incredible service; friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely detailed to customer service staff. The swim-up room was an absolute luxury. Very modern and relaxed atmosphere. The beach was a little bit of a walk however the main pools more than made up for this small inconvenience.

Our new favourite hotel line

Doing research for a getaway with my boyfriend looking for an adults only place was somewhat stressful and I found myself stuck with analysis paralysis reading the good. the bad , and the ugly about so many different hotels in riviera maya. It wasn’t a cheap vacation and I wanted to get the most for my money in terms of experience and service. My rooom request “was not on file” but it resulted in an upgrade to a deluxe jacuzzi suite-building 5 3rd floor-loved it! The Italian restaurant was our favourite and Lillian’s customers care was awesome . We did not like the seafood risotto but all other meals there were great! No other complaints about food at rodeo or Tao..we never made it to aroma ! The on-site disco was hardly used so we went one night to the neighbouring resort (their family hotel ) and had a blast dancing there. Also had a terrific meal at Miso there We played tennis (luis was a great coach) enjoyed drinks at swim up bar-quiet pool NOT party pool (thanks Rosie.Jose and Herbaciato) went to 2 amazing dance shows-(forgot choreographer s name but awesome Job!) The concierges Lorena and Katarina took care of wine and swag needs Spent a couple days beach side and it was great! How on earth can people complain about seaweed-there’s lots but that’s nature and another good example of how picky you have to be to find faults here. I would say this is a 4.5 star having been to secrets in Cabo at Christmas which was 5 star all the way. That said we we super happy With our 9 day stay and we will be back for sure!

Nic e resort

Very well kept , clean . Spacious rooms . Staff was great very good friendly service. The main drawback was the beach , very rocky filled with seaweed and had a red flag the entire week . Entertainment was not very good and few of bars where open after 10.

Nice hotel - needs service improvement

The hotel is very beautiful, for the most part the staff are very friendly and helpful. Exception would be front desk- concierge and maintenance issues. We were in the platinum section and the air conditioner was broken for over 48hours. We were simply told to be patient or offered a room that was not at the same standard as our current room. For a resort of this size the amount of time it took to have the issue fixed was unacceptable. Another aspect to fix is the food, for a 5 star resort the  [... read more]food quality (especially at the a la carte restos) should have been better. Overall though nice resort, very clean, we had a nice time.

Wonderful resort

This resort is just beautiful, well kept and very clean. We really have not one bad thing to say about this resort. Food was amazing at buffet and all the a la carte, along with the service. Staff is very friendly and helpful! Great resort

TLC Needed

This was probably a wonderful resort a few years ago, but it has fallen in disrepair, and it is not due to lack of maintenance, there was always someone cleaning, fixing, maintaining something, it is due to age, things wear out and need to be replaced. We found the over all resort clean, but things like dirty drapes, bed spreads, mattress and throw pillows have seen better days. The main pool is in serious need of being drained and tiled, there were always tiles missing, to the point they lay ma [... read more]ts on the pool floor to make sure people do not cut themselves on missing tiles. The rooms are spacious and clean, the food was always good, have to say one of the best buffets we have had, food was always different everyday, and cooked well. The Italian and Japanese were by far the best restaurants. Tex/ Mex was not bad--just not great. The shows were your normal dance shows. The entertainment people were amazing, always keeping people engaged and the energy was high. It did seem like a more younger crowd the week we were there. not sure if that was normal or not. The resort is huge, joined to 2 other resorts, that you have full use of. The only problem with going to the other resort, you will be hit up every few feet by a time share sales pitch, it really did get annoying, as polite as they were. On the Platinum resort, you will be hit up by spa and massage sales, again, polite but continuous becomes annoying. we ended up using a back path at times to avoid the spa people, we called it avoidance lane, it by passed them easily, but really this should not be happening. Over all for the price we paid we felt we got value for our money. We would come back at the prices we paid, an amazing last minute deal, but if the prices went much higher, there are many other resorts in much better condition. We are really hoping a reno is done here, could see it becoming a favorite with a little TLC done.

The resort is great!

Except for the stinky smell of stale tobacco from the curtains and the towels everything else was absolutely great at this resort! That smell even came home on my suitcase. Driving back home from Toronto I noticed that my car smelled of stale smoke. It’s a new car and has never been smoked in.

Nice resort

Room - Spacious with separate seating area, modern double-shower room, in room double-sink and tub, enclosed toilet area, double closet space, fridge, balcony with nice view (building #5), clean. Property - Nice and very well maintained, always clean, just the right size, restaurants are nicely positioned together for easy access Food - Buffet was excellent - great options and not the same thing every day, seating very comfortable and nicely spaced out from other tables. A la carte restaurants [... read more] don't need reservations. Ate only at the Mexican (Rodeo) and were surprised when asked if we reserved with the concierge for the nice terrace. Food was overcooked and late. Beach terrace has a nice view and good food. Bars - very good with good variety of international drinks. Service was excellent all around, wait staff super friendly and ready to accommodate. Pool - all-around buildings, well maintained and nice. Beach - not as good as elsewhere. Lots of sea weeds and an undersized tractor to clean them. The tractor made tens of runs on the beach the result being more gases than cleaning. A lot of rocks in the water with one single place on the neighbor Grand Princess side with less of them and where most of the people were getting in the water. No water sports whatsoever. Very good shows with a very professional team (different from the entertainment team). Nice setup for the New Year's Eve party. I am recommending this property.

Excellent resort

The staff was excellent and the food was delicious. The whole resort was very laid back and relaxing. The rooms were very clean. The swimouts were private and very convenient. The activities were entertaining. This resort is a great place to stay with the option of visiting the adjoining resort.

Amazing Resort

This resort was everything we were expecting plus more. The grounds were well kept our room was cleaned daily, the staff were very helpful and friendly and the food was awesome. I would go back definitely.

Nice resort

Nice modern resort Easy to get around for people with mobility issues.. Loved the swim up room..even had bar service to the pool at our room.. Very clean resort.. staff very friendly ...maid service very good.. Fun outside bar area for a night time gathering place.. Beach not so nice ..lots of rocks and the seaweed is an issue ..this is not a hotel problem but mother nature.. The workers worked very hard at removing the seaweed.. but an endless job! Food is ok .. lots of choices..

Relaxing Resort with Wonderful Food

Overall this resort was absolutely wonderful for our 2nd anniversary and a Birthday celebration. We stayed at the Platinum Yucatan in a swim out room. Room: Our room was spacious, had all the amenities we needed and of course the swim out pool was pretty awesome and where we spent most of our time. The room did have a moderate musky odour to it Food: Every single meal was absolutely amazing. My personal fav was TAO and Rodeo with a close second. Entertainment: We saw 3 shows at the theatre during our stay, they were fun to watch, great dancers but got a bit repetitive. The resort hosted a "theme night" every evening with games/dancing that we really enjoyed participating in. Grounds: Our side of the resort had 1 pool with a swim up bar (not including our swim out pool) that was perfect and pretty low key. The other side had more of the main pool where there was a DJ, volleyball nets and more of a party atmosphere. Both were great. The sports park was great but poorly run. Unenthusiastic workers here made the experience not as enjoyable. But we did have fun at the batting cages and learning to paddle board Beach: The beach was perfect for relaxing on the non windy days. We saw a sting ray in the water close to shore that scared me away from swimming but could see a rocky floor. On windy days some seaweed lined the shores but it was still wonderful to relax. Tonnes of huts and chairs available. Service: We had great service during our stay and had no complaints. Staff didnt seem pushy for tips and constantly went above and beyond (except our short time at the sports park). Spa: we got a couples massage and spend an afternoon utilizing the spa facilities- sauna, jetted pool, aroma steam room and loved it. Found the prices to be a bit high but definitely a nice way to relax. Overall we absolutely loved this resort and would return and recommend to friends and family.

Great getaway!

Hotel was beautiful - staff was friendly - food was great - service was awesome too. I would say more access to a variety of snacks or access to a restaurant 24 hrs a day would be required - other than that, all was great. We would definitely recommend this resort as a place to stay and hope to come back one day.

Excellent Resort!!

Well I'm not one to usually write reviews but all I can say is Amazing!!! Our stay at the resort was nothing less than perfect, the room was amazing the staff was very friendly, helpful and entertaining.The food was excellent we did not try all the restaurants due to the ones we did go too were so good we went again.The pools were great and very well kept "never clouded by sunscreen ". I would have to say the only downside was the beach only due to the amount of seaweed " not from lack of the  [... read more]staff trying to clean it up " it happens.
