Great Value!

Big Resourt, well kept, friendly staff, great beach with white sand and shallow water. Two large pool areas for those who prefer pool, lots of space for everyone. Good place to go with big family and kids, or several couples, as we did. Changing rooms was not an issue. Very spacious, rooms. Second and third floor will have no bugs...heard bugs can get into the first floor. We had no issue. Food was not the greatest, but decent, as expected in Cuba, at times very overcrowded, so staff had a hard [... read more] time keeping control over things, but they would open a second dining hall. Great cheeses, shrimp night, good grilled chicken and fish..fresh fruit, good French fries by the beach - bring your own ketchup thou.:) Go for day trips /lunch to other Malia Resorts - take a voucher-at Reception, go on the double decker red bus.

Worst resort out of my 27 visits to Cuba !

I've been in Cuba 27 times, stayed at many chain hotels (including other Melias) , private homes, hostels, Cuban hotels and this has by far been my worst experience in terms of hospitality, service and food. The room had roaches, AC didn't work properly, the hot water didn't work and the cleaning lady made the bed but didn't clean the the sink, toilet, floor or shower. I didn't get served any drinks at the breakfast or dinner buffets. Lunch buffet at the beach staff were the exception. I sat at  [... read more]an a la carte for 20 minutes and not one person approached me to offer a drink or even to say hello so I walked out. The other a la cartes I ordered chicken and got the exact same chicken drumsticks mashed potatoes and rice at Mexican, international and Mediterranean. The only exception was the Mexican rice had cut up hot dogs in it. Yuck! Paid extra for elegance club which they didn't have in their computer so after much arguing and having to prove that I paid for this I finally got the internet cards and reservations at restaurants but never got a beach towel the entire time I was at the resort. First time ever staying at a chain hotel in Cuba and not getting a beach towel. Ridiculous. There were positives: close to the airport and the beach was absolutely gorgeous. Perfect for walking for hours. In saying that there are two other hotels on this stretch of beach which I highly recommend as opposed to this one.

Awful resort

Suggestions to travel’ agents! Do not book anyone to this resort. 24 hrs snacks place,,no more foods at 10 pm. First day, toilet was broken. Waited 3 hours to move. Sewage smells in bedroom and outside balcony. Toilets paper always run out in resort. Beach towels run out at 9 am at hour open. I was carried my own role of toilet paper. Everyone who worked in this resort, they done good job. They can’t provide the better service Because, resort have no organized.

Lack of logistics in the reception of tourists

tourists have come a long way before arrival and the first thing they need is to get to their room and relax as soon as possible. Especially if they arrived late at night. They should not be collected like sheep in rooms and explain something for a long time. Each room should have a memo about the rules. That's all. This happens in all hotels in the world. On vacation, especially.A tourist should not run to the reception and ask: where is the outlet and what is your voltage. This is written in t [... read more]he memo! Resort has gone down

The food was HORRIBLE at this resort, much worse than when I went two years ago. Shower was not working for three days, toilet in room took 24 hours until fixed. Pools were nice, but could use to be cleaned more frequently. Couldn’t get anything put pop, wine, beer or water in restaurants. Al le carte restaurants didn’t have everything on the menu available, every one I attended. Lifeguards were drinking booze and smoking while on duty. Had to move and get chairs off stacks by myself at the  [... read more]pool. Sunwing stewardess screamed on the plane to me and fellow passengers. Threatened me and belittled passengers. Our human rights were violated.

Beautiful Resort!

Melia Jardines Del Ray In Cayo Coco was absolutely beautiful. I went in a group of four girls and felt extremely safe. Staff was excellent, beach was beautiful, and the drinks were strong! Great vacation spot!

Beautiful resort nice beaches

The hotel was very nice room very comfortable and clean staff friendly and helpful The food was not very appetizing at the Buffett but the a la cartel restaurants were ok by Cuba standards I liked the ice cream bar and the entertainment was great the Rock band by the pool in the afternoon was terrific

Wouldn’t return

The resort itself is beautiful, as it’s only 5 years old. We took a taxi from the airport and got checked in right away instead of having to go through the weird check in process this resort has where everyone waits in a room and they take everyone’s passports and return to call you one by one. It was nice to get checked in immediately! We got to our room in the dark and had a long day of travelling. Our tv did not work and our toilet did not flush. The next morning someone came and “fixed [... read more]” the toilet but it never did flush properly. It would ONLY flush liquid, not toilet paper or #2 lol.. The tv got fixed two days later which wasn’t a huge deal but was still nice to be able to relax and watch something at night. The resort is really large so it’s hard to know where you’ll want to be for the day. You never know which pool is going to be more entertaining that day. On that note, we didn’t see ANY entertainment by the pools until our very last day there. The pools had lots of dirt and algae on the ground and sides. My 5-year-old son cut two toes one day from swimming in the pool. The pool bartenders were pretty good although you could tell who tipped more than who because they definitely prioritized based on how much they were tipped. We tried so many different coffees and cappuccinos and never enjoyed any of them. We’ve always enjoyed the coffee at the other Cuban resorts we’ve visited. All of the bars ran out of things all the time. One day you’d be able to order something (ie mojito) and the next you couldn’t. We got sick of the basic drinks really fast! The water from the bars and restaurants was really good and tasted like back home, which was nice! The other resorts we’ve visited you could taste the difference and I’m wondering if they were actually giving us bottled water or not looking back. The week we were here it was super windy so the beach wasn’t as enjoyable but that’s by no means the resorts fault. The beach was beautiful and still very busy despite the wind. We couldn’t find chairs so we were sitting on our towels and it was disastrous with people just walking on top of our towels and also the wind blowing. Would have been better if we’d got there earlier and found a spot. Again, the wind wasn’t something the resort could have prevented. Perhaps having more chairs available would help but even still we were being hit with sand near the water and had to wear glasses to keep it out of our eyes. The food. It was relatable to the other resorts we’ve been to in Cuba. There was always something you could eat. My son lived off hot dogs which actually tasted great. However they’d bring out small amounts of the better things at a time and the other rude tourists/Cubans would take THE WHOLE TRAY. Hash browns in the morning, for example, were extremely hard to get. It was partially the resorts fault though, as there would be one tray of the good stuff and no kidding 5-10 trays of the same rice or cut up hot dogs. We paid for a lobster dinner. $20CUC per person. They told us to come at 6:30. We came and sat down. By 8:00 we still hadn’t even been served a drink. My fiancé went to the manager and asked what’s going on and said not to worry about getting the food to us and we would go to the buffet. They rushed the food over to us immediately and it was cold... it was disgusting honestly. The manager said to find him the following day and he’d make it right. The next 4 days we were told every day there was no manager in. Finally on our last day we demanded to speak with a manager and were again told no manager. Finally they said ok fine and got the manager. He told us to come for 6:00 and he would have lobster dinner ready for us because we had to leave by 7:00. We got there at 6 and no one was there. Come 6:15 he went to find the manager and every one acted like he was crazy and no one had told him he’d get another lobster dinner. They finally gave us a free a la carte, which we could have had anyway because we only used 1 of 3 through the week. The Mexican a la carte was fantastic. The Cuban was terrible. It was at the restaurant on the beach so we were eaten alive and it was pitch black out so it wasn’t even like it was a nice view. They didn’t offer to seat us or anything, we had to go up to them to ask to be seated. Then we sat for half an hour without even being handed a menu so we decided to just leave and go to the buffet. Other people at the same dinner were telling us they waited over an hour to even order. It wasn’t busy so I have no clue why this was happening. All in all, we made the best of it and had a good time still but I absolutely wont return to this resort or recommend to my friends! We love Santa Lucia Camaguey, however we wanted to try somewhere closer to the airport for our sons first trip. Also the entertainment at night was so wonky. They have this massive beautiful theatre and plenty of very comfortable seats but they rarely had shows in there? Most of the time they were on this tiny terrace that only had a few tables or in the lobby which also had limited seats. It was really weird!!!

Needs a lot of work

The resort was packed . Food consistently running out like bread.bottled water for rooms unavailable for 3 days . Paid for elegance and received no robe or welcome gift . No water for 2-3 hours multiple days . No towels . Very disorganized staff . Will definitely not return . Positive - beach was great

Lovely Resort

I thought the hotel itself, rooms, entertainment and bar service were very good. The ground keeping was very well maintained and the beach was stellar! My only complaint was the food service. Because this hotel is so large and caters to so many people, we found the breakfast and dinner buffet service very, very, very chaotic and busy. At times you could not get a plate or a bowl for ice cream or a glass for the fruit smoothies. The food also was very repetitive and we ate the same things for 10 days. The exception to this was on New Years eve. Because tables were pre-booked it worked well and the spread was a 10/10 including lobster and shrimp. They did a fab job here. This all being said we would return to this Melia resort as we felt comfortable there.

Melia

We loved our stay. Staff was great,fun and very friendly. Accessibility is not an issue. Rooms are clean and roomy. Huge resort. We did Pillar beach excursion and it was amazing. Spa next door is a highlight!

Never again

The rooms were okay Pool was okay beach was nice BUT dining was awful ran out of plates ran out glasses cups fork everything no where to sit down it was Chaos people everywhere I’m not kidding you We found a piece of glass in our drink a big piece Quite and tried to hide it we took picture and to top it off 7 out of 10 of us got food poisoning we think all the Symptoms Awful awful awful I will never go there again

3rd time at this resort Lobby bar staff fantastic Some areas were not up to par at the beginning of holiday- bathrooms not cleaned or opened Very disappointed that there was no entertainment in NYE Gardeners very friendly Request of a particular building was granted which was awesome Beach is spectacular Return visitors get late check out/ sooo appreciated when we didn’t leave hotel until 5:30 pm

Great Beach

We spent a week from December 23rd to the 30th 2019. The beach was gorgeous! Water was warm with soft sand. Staff were friendly. Our room was ready for us when we arrived. Rooms were clean but run down for a fairly new resort. We have been to Cuba 6 times prior to this stay so we are well aware that their resources are somewhat limited. Upon arrival our sliding door did not lock, it was however fixed within a few hours. The entire east side of the resort was shutdown. The pools were closed as w [... read more]ell as many of the a la carte restaurants and only certain ones were open on certain days and they were all located in the same room. The walkways were very dark be sure to take a flashlight with you! The phone in our room didn't work either...we were told it was a problem on the entire resort. My husband ended up with a double ear infection (which I believe was from the dirty pool) but was treated well at the medical clinic. The entertaiment was average and the overall cleanliness in the common areas was poor. There always seemed to be a shortage of toilet paper and soap in all the shared washrooms.

Will return

Clean resort , food wasn’t all that bad , like any resort after 4 days it gets monotonous, great beach , loved the sandbar. Only complaint is the walkways were very dark ... they need way more lighting !

Great service!!!

Great and easy booking experience with Hayley at TripCentral, highly recommend. Our third time to Melia Jardines del Rey and it was the best yet. The staff was exceptionally attentive and the beaches were as good as ever. We don't go there for the food, but rather for the weather, people and beaches which were top notch as always.

Would stay again!!!!

My wife, two teenagers and myself thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the staff and the service was fantastic, the beach/water was incredible and the food was above Cuba standards, Our room was spotless and very comfortable

Good resort

The boulevard needs to be repaired because the grout lines make it hard to walk on. Beach is nice. Has lots of shells. Rooms are good. Lots space. Most employees are friendly and accommodating Food types should be identified so people would know what is being served. Food and beverage supplies made some of our vacation days disappointing Checking in was easy. Nice to see they are improving the landscaping. Pools were clean but water was cold. It was nice not to be hassled by  [... read more]vendors on the beach. The beach should be cleaned to get cigarette butts and garbage out of the sand.
